    Hello there! Thank you so much for creating this great video with the Alouette!
    I would just like to point out that there are quite a few things you noticed would need change that have been patched with the first update(the anti torque responsiveness being one), I am actively working on releasing a second update to bring even more details/customization/liveries and fix the things that need fixing :)
    I hope you'll continue to enjoy flying around! Cheers!

    I worked for Flight for Life of Colorado as a paramedic for 8 years and loved every minute of it. I never flew in the Alouette, as it was replaced by the A-star series in the 1980’s, but got to hear many stories from the long time

    Great video. I'm both a helicopter pilot and trekked to Everest Basecamp in person back in 2019 and honestly the accuracy of the terrain shown in MSFS is seriously impressive. You passed many landmarks and settlements that I immediately recognised from my time hiking there! The only gripe I have with MSFS's depiction of basecamp is that its located in the middle of a boulder field and there is virtually 0 flat ground there in person. If it was modelled as such it'd offer a really interesting challenger for landing there I'm sure.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Год назад +2

      Very cool, Rmac, that all sounds like jolly good fun!
      Even as someone unfamiliar with the area, I was suitably impressed with the scenery depiction in the sim (though I was using a 3rd party scenery for Everest base camp). I did think to myself, that base camp looked a little “off” vs the pictures that I have seen, but given that the addon scenery was free, I suppose one can’t be too picky about these things haha (it does sound like the real location would make for a fun landing though ; )
      Thanks very much for sharing your feedback! All the best : )

    Just bought it on your recommendation. Not disappointed. There's a lot to explore in a helicopter low and slow in MSFS and having such a great helicopter to do it in is a blessing. Would never have given it a look as i'm pretty much exclusively into Airliners. Thank you for the steer!

    I think you hit the nail on the head - "feels much more convincing than any other helicopter in the sim". I was coming over from DCS Huey and Mi-8 and later the Apache and a lot of the msfs helis just felt twitchy or dull, synthetic. Taog did a great job with this, it sort of feels like a small Mi-8 but will instantly feel natural to anyone flying helos in DCS.

    • @Karibanu
      @Karibanu Год назад +1

      Thanks, that has actually sold it for me! :) couple of thousand hours in the DCS Mi-8 ( although not for a few years now ), it takes a lot to beat that thing for feel.

      It did unfortunately rather oversell it - having tried the thing it's really nice in a hover, but brutally rigid in flight, it's more like it's underwater than flying. Given the hover area is so nice I suspect eventually the rest will be sorted too, but temper any expectations at the moment.

      I stand in awe of anyone who can fly a helicopter, real world or sim. In over 50 years of RW flying I have not mastered it. Oh, once it gets going it is manageable, but the hover……

    Thanks for your great review of the wonderful Alouette. I just had a couple of short flights and it’s great fun. When I was a kid, my father worked for Republic Aviation in New York. Every year they held an open house where employees could bring their families to tour the extensive facilities. I remember the last one we attended. There was an Alouette on static display. Apparently the concept of a turbine was more than my child’s mind could comprehend; I came away with the idea that it was a jet helicopter, which surely must involve some sort of magic. Thanks to the excellent work by Taog’s Hangar, I am able to relive this childhood memory in the sim.

    To ultimately satisfy my inner European would be having a H135 rescue helicopter of the same quality.
    Also one thing I always like in add ons is the modelled suspension on landing gear. There's just something satisfying about seeing it work.
    Also man you have a spicy PC now. That is definitely a nice rig.

      I'm sure you're probably already aware, but you do know that HPG offer a freeware H135 for the sim (I guess it's the lack of rescue features, that you're missing)?

      Hi DC,
      Unfortunately, HPG can't bring the H145 to the Xbox, as the addon's flight model runs externally from the sim. I gather Taog is working on bringing the Alouette to the in-sim Marketplace and I would imagine the product will quite likely be made available for the console, as and when the addon receives Marketplace approval (so long as the flight model doesn't rely on any external elements - I don't believe that it does).

    I bought this helicopter, but I am not satisfied with it at all. I have something wrong with the tail rotor. After takeoff, the heli turns CCW and you have to pedal hard to compensate. As you climb further, this spinning effect disappears and repeats itself on landing. This is absolutely abnormal and is not so blatant with any other heli. That's a shame, the SIM is otherwise very nicely made and has a few gimmicks. I like this helicopter and have flown it in real life.

    Great review as always, I trust your reviews the most. Interesting you waxing lyrical in the conclusion about how easy all the various flight manoevers are in the Alouette. I would have thought that would be a negative. I'm not a irl chopper pilot, but have quite a few hours in the DCS MI8 and Huey, and you would never describe them as easy to fly. That's what makes them so rewarding - the challenge of mastering helicopter flight physics.

      Perhaps I didn’t articulate myself very well during the video haha; I found the Alouette “easy” to fly, because it’s behaviour was predictable vs my expectations (whereas, some rotary aircraft in MSFS display very strange handling characteristics). Whilst the Alouette’s flight model isn’t up to the likes of the DCS Huey etc, it’s currently the closest option that I have come across in MSFS, in terms of mimicking DCS helo flight modelling.
      I hope that clarifies things a little. Many thanks once again and all the best! : )

    I've been loving this heli. Considering this is the first heli in MSFS with wheels, it would have been cool to see ground taxiing highlighted. I think it's really fun to have. The real craft has a full-castering front wheel and it feels like that's modeled in the sim, though the animation isn't modeled, but I think that might be due to sim limitations.

    Comment about the Bell 206 by FI... On that helicopter you need to bind regular rudder, not anti torque pedals, if not the response will be terrible, almost unflyable.
    That is likely gonna change but for now thats how it is.
    This Alouette is the best helicopter with Asobo's FM in use I have tried yet. That said, I dont have the Cowansim heli's yet.
    Sadly, it looks like we will have to wait till end of year for more helicopter improvements unless I've read things wrong.

    • @danmorand3658
      @danmorand3658 Год назад +1

      True about the FlyInside 206 pedals (it's very clear in the manual about that). Doesn't seem to have any negative effect though, you still get full and realistic pedal authority. Overall it's the best helicopter I've flown so far in MSFS.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Год назад

      Thanks very much for the pointer, Murdoch. I do in fact have my pedals bound to the rudder axis; my point regarding the B206, was that it had a tendency to wag its tail, at least when I reviewed it (I gather that behaviour may have subsequently been addressed though).
      I haven't tried any of the Cowansim choppers yet either (though I generally hear good things) but certainly, the Alouette is the best "default" helicopter I have come across to date.

    • @danmorand3658
      @danmorand3658 Год назад +1

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations The 206 tail behavior is accurate, from the little bit of research I did. Flying with the ball not centered is one cause. Left crosswinds are another. And the tail rotor authority on the real thing is apparently not the greatest.

      Cheers Dan,
      I got very mixed messages from the real-world 206 guys that commented on the video, so it’s always hard to know with these things haha. Certain aspects on the FI B206’s flight model felt a little bit “off” to me (ground effect being another aspect that felt a bit strange) but once again, that’s not based on any real-world experience. I gather FlyInside did update the aircraft’s flight model, but I have yet to try the updated version myself. Either way though, I very much enjoy the addon overall.

I would caution choosing a helicopter though, if you find yourself back in the market for something that's easy to fly. Hmm... the takeoff looked promising - and unfortunately the way antitorque is attached to the collective is a novelty rather than the norm in MSFS! - but it does look oversensitve just like most MSFS stuff ( and I don't know how to fix oversensitive helicopters yet ) - can see it moving around in a series of jerks rather than accelerating & decelerating. Is that what it's like inside? my comparison for this would be the XP12 SA315 which is a great little thing. This does look promising though! might just be enough to get me to try it, I've been burned enough to be really wary of MSFS rotaries atm.
    Pitch up is what happens in RBS thanks to precession effects - rotor behaviour really hurts your head...

      There's no particular reason that I didn't mention the price; often I don't, unless the pricing is particularly noteworthy. I tend not to link to websites, as I don't want people finding out thereafter, that there are better purchasing options available etc (and I can't keep up with which sites have the product available and at what price).
      So far as the Alouette III goes, the product retails at £25 and is available over on Flightsim.to: flightsim.to/product/sa316b-alouette-iii-for-msfs-by-taog-s-hangar

      Hi Meuhey,
      For Lukla and the lower ranges of the mountain, I was using the Orbx Himalayas mesh, but otherwise it was standard MSFS photo-imagery. For Everest Base camp, I was using a freeware 3rd party scenery and I believe that scenery may have also adjusted some of the photo-imagery (though I’m not 100% sure on that). In short, it was a bit of a mix, but still broadly representative of how MSFS *can* look in its default state.
      I hope that helps? All the best! : )

    Amazingly rendered indeed. Portuguese Air Force was actually a sort of "test bed" for Sud Aviation Allouettes III Operations in combat, mainly in Guiné Bissau, Angola and Mozambique during the sixties and early seventies. I've never flown in one, but I had a very good friend, now a retired Airline Captain form TAP Air Portugal who flew them when he was in the army, and I had the privilege for being near and inside then quite a number of times myself . We still have more than a couple of them flight worthy and regularly appearing in air shows . The external and internal model are really amazing and truly Photo realistic. Thank you for your revue. heres a short video of those times. ruclips.net/video/O_oojDsTZKI/видео.html&ab_channel=Historicalhelicoptersvideosarchives. Best regars and apologies for the long text.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Год назад

      Hi Umzalas,
      I don’t really use any graphical mods. The Everest base camp scenery was a freeware addon and the trees are courtesy of the Bijan 4 Seasons pack, but otherwise the sim is stock graphically. I do tend to add in a little bit of vignette to the external shots during editing, but primarily the visuals just come down to spending quite a bit of time tweaking the weather / lighting in the sim (as both can make a huge difference in terms of how MSFS looks).
      I hope that clarifies things. All the best! : )

      Hi Tommy,
      Yes, I’m afraid rotary flying with a controller, would probably be a very tricky exercise. If you haven’t done so already, make sure you have all of the heli assists turned on - that will almost certainly help somewhat (for any helicopter that uses the sim’s native flight middling).

      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Год назад

      Hi Siberier,
      I've only tested the Aloutette's VRS behaviour briefly, but it did seem as though the modelling is there, at least to some degree. Certainly, the behaviour was not as pronounced as I've seen it on the DCS Huey for example (sink rate was not drastically increased and even at high altitudes, it was easy enough to "power out" of the state). Again, not having flown a rotary aircraft myself, I'm afraid I can only compare with other helo's, that I have flown in other sims.
      I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )

    How accurate is this really? From what I can tell, the service ceiling of the Alouette III is 10500ft...Everest base camp is at 17500ft. So I'm not sure how/why you were able to even GET there...in fact, IRL you should have barely been able to get off the ground at Lukla, right?

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Год назад +4

      Hi Mark,
      From the little reading I did, it seems this flight would have been within the realms of possibility (initially, I wasn’t expecting to be able to carry out the flight and was questioning the accuracy of the flight model myself). I’ve seen the 10,500ft quoted service ceiling, but I’ve also come across figures stating that the absolute ceiling is some 6,500m (I don’t know whether different engine variants come into play there etc). Apparently, during demonstration trials, test pilot Jean Boulet was able to not only land, but take off again at some 6000m (with a pretty decent load to boot)! So whilst in reality, I can’t imagine there are many people looking to take an Alouette III up to 5,500m, it seems the flight model was not grossly inaccurate for allowing me to do so (though I can’t say whether or not that means the flight model *is* accurate in general).
      I hope that’s of some interest. Cheers and all the best! : )

      Do you think so, Ghost? I thought it looked absolutely superb haha. Perhaps my external shots exacerbate the effect you’re alluding to, as the aircraft remains fairly static, but the scenery is second-to-none. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” I suppose ; )
