It's a very good topic. Although the speech was quite short, I was very impressed with the message conveyed. I think that what is said is true. People become unfriendly because they spend most of their valuable time using social media and rarely interact directly with other people. The implication of excessive use of social platforms is that they move away from friendships and relationships that actually occur in real life. It not only prevents them from being gregarious but also turns humans into addicted creatures devoid of emotion and compassion for others. Someone becomes more interested in social media to do various things or activities. I totally agree with his statement that technology is not a wrong invention. The ones to blame are themselves because they don't know how to use social media properly. In addition to being socially isolated, a person may also become an individual who lacks empathy and is self-centered. thank you for this excellent talking video.

    • @CMV314

I 100% disagree. Even people who "excessively" use SM platforms often have excellent relationships in person. People act as if it's an either/or proposition. It's not.

The implication of overusing social platforms is that they are staying away from real friendship and relationship as well. It not only prevents them to be gregarious but it also turns humans into addicted creatures without emotions and compassion for others. I agreed with everything Kristin Gallucci says. I work on computers, and I teach online continuing education courses part-time, but I would never want to live in the cyber world as opposed to the real world. I find that if you really want to win someone over, get that person in your camp, and ensure that person truly has your back (and vice versa), you have to develop a relationship with that person that is interpersonal based on real world chatting, interaction, and working together to get the job done. Social media, email, and texting... all of them fall flat as compared with real world interaction when it comes to developing relationships of all sorts.

Kristin is so right, it's killing marriages/relationships on so many levels and even friendships. I can vouch for friendships, as I've turned away from many due to their needing to connect only online. They have time for online but not a phone call, meeting out n about. Life is too short. If someone wakes up at 7 and goes to be at 10 every single day, that leaves plenty of hours to interact with people online and also in real life.

Plus I don’t know what it’s like to be in a serious committed relationship with someone who will never leave my side and truly love me no matter what. This feels like the same argument made for books in the early 1800's

Didn't watch the video just wanted to say no, it's experience in most cases. To quote:
In his difficult work Being and Nothingness, Sartre paints a bleak picture of human relationships.[3] He says that relationships involve a constant struggle over freedom, which is the only thing that really matters.[4] This tension arises because we either treat other people as objects (which undermines their freedom), or we allow ourselves to be treated as objects by them (which undermines ours). Either way, someone’s freedom is threatened, so encountering another person necessarily results in a struggle for dominance. Thus, Sartre’s pessimistic view of relationships seems to be grounded in his broader philosophy.
