I love how they make fun of the plotholes of the movie, like they stealing Gohan instead of just take the hat... or try to kill Piccolo (obvious a stronger warrior) to kill Kami, instead of going direct for Kami... or how they try to kill Kami and then use the Dragon Balls, XD
I love how TFS kind of canonizes the movies. Kinda. Quick side note: the Dead Zone / World's Strongest double feature dvd has commentary with Garlic Jr voice actor Chuck Huber and Chris Cason the ADR director. It's pretty funny.
Yeah, Piccolo was one of the main villains of the original series Dragon Ball, and was technically still a villain during the time referenced in this movie and until his sacrifice in the Saiyan Saga. It is sometimes easy to forget that, especially as time goes on.
They fight because Piccolo is still very much a villain at the time and has a score to settle with Goku. Piccolo being a villain is also why Krillin is so afraid of him when he appears earlier.
This movie definitely had more of the Dragon Ball vibe, where he still used his power pole, it was kind of waky and insane, and it wasn't just punching and power ups. He actually did some cool manuvering.
3:50 ok, the Four star dragonball is a very special item to Goku, that dragonball once belonged to Goku's adoptive Grandpa Gohan, and after Grandpa Gohan dies Goku treasure it as something very special to him Gohan wears the dragonball in his hat as something kinda sentimental, since he is named after Goku's beloved Grandpa and the idea of Gohan having a dragonball in his hat wasn't so dumb at the moment since Goku was the strongest being on the planet at that moment the Four star dragonball is important too since Goku took the task to find the dragonballs twice just to find it again and is the reason Goku met Bulma at the very beginning
My favorite joke from this, which might be easily and understandably overlooked, is when Mr. Popo asks Kami "You ok in there?" At least to me, it reminds me of a parent asking a child if they are good while going to the bathroom after they were just potty trained 😅🤣
the abridged movies are funny and I definitely recommend watching them just because of that. but none of the DBZ movies are considered canon, only the DB Super movies are considered canon.
20:40 It's really difficult to write this without spoiling anything (DB is *very* worth the watch!) King Piccolo (OG) was the same age as Kami, The piccolo you see here is his spawn (I can't really say 'son' as Namekians are canonically genderless and asexual). Goku and Piccolo are actually enemies up until after the Saiyan Saga (Piccolo kidnapped Gohan after Radditz intending to use him as a pawn to take over the world). Thats how enemies usually turn friend is a bigger, badder enemy causes them to join forces. (Ironically it was Vegeta and Nappa that caused Piccolo to join Goku, and Freeza caused Vegeta to join Goku. In DBZA Season 3 (near the end of the Cell Saga) Krillin makes a mention to this. Bulma shot goku in the face (yes, with a gun). Yamcha tried killing goku several times. Tien broke Yamchas leg (hence his scream when Bulma and Yamcha's dead call Yamcha screams "ARGH! my good leg!", this was *right* before King Kai says "Gohan's fatherless, and the Namekians are homeless. Good luck breaking the news, I have to go patch up Yamcha's leg"). Krillin never tried to kill Goku but they definitely werent friends at first. Yajirobi hated Goku for stealing his food. The only allies that didn't try to kill him were Kami, Popo, Korin, Chi Chi (though her dad tried so maybe that counts?), Turtle and Roshi. Yes, even Oolong (the pig) had a go. 23:45 -- It makes me really sad TFS got hit with a DMCA for this. The entire end credit scene there plays Golden Earring - Twilight Zone. But they had to remove it. There are a couple other movies they had to remove audio or even whole scenes and one I think has reduced audio quality because of it
Garlic jr saga was a “filler” saga between nemek and the android sagas. That whole saga was filler, they don’t show that anymore. So this movie is the setup for that filler
Seeing you react to this stuff makes me really want to see you react to OG Dragon Ball because I think seeing you find out how characters you know from z get introduced and what they do would be pretty hype. Also seeing you react to plot points introduced in OG but get carried on in Z like Piccolo and Goku's rivalry and the Red Ribbon Army would be really cool
16:35 On your comment about Goku's hair. The reason you have never seen his hair change is because a Saiyan's hair stops growing once it reaches a certain length and style that's unique too the individual then it basically never grows after that unless something cuts it.
Well the thing is as an adult he typically doesn't finish off his opponents but when he was a kid he had no qualms of doing that several times he decimated an entire army Base by himself
To clear your doubts about the movies: In terms of official Dragon Ball, the movies are not canon save for the more recent ones; but DBZA gets to change a few things to make them canon in relation to its own story. Otherwise, it's very hard to make them fit in the regular timeline.
just a few things to help you out and clear confusion: all the movies in abridged are canon the abridged series. kami actually has fought in og dragon ball and is actually pretty strong. the staff goku is using is called the power pole and it was a weapon he used a lot as a kid in og dragon ball
"I have never seen Chichi fight", "I have never seen Kami fight", "What is this staff thing?", "Why do they (Goku and Piccolo) fight here?" Dude you really need to watch OG Dragonball^^
Derad Zone is actually one of my favourite DBZ movies even though it was the first, but I saw it after the others; I love how Goku uses the power pole which was a weapon he used a lot in early Dragonball that fell by the wayside in Z, and the melee choreography and animation is really good (especially when the goons pull out blades from their bodies and attack Goku, his dodging is so slick). The story is nothing amazing, but that's the case with a few of the movies tbh Also Goku would SUPER murder those guys, he only started doing the "no killing" rule once with Piccolo Jr (Piccolo is technically a child/reincarnation of Demon King Piccolo, who Goku SUPER MURDERED in Drgaonball) and then tried to stick with it after Vegeta, but when he was a kid he would kill the fuck out of his enemies on a regular basis if they weren't in a tournament
DBZ movies aren’t considered canon technically. So these are just for fun when it comes to abridged. But they have some amazing jokes. I would just keep watching all of them in order. They don’t really have any impact on the main story other than jokes you might get
Im not sure anyone ever told you, saiyan hair is the same from the day theyre born. Also, gokus staff is the power pole. His adoptive grandpa gohan gave it to him, and it can grow basically infinitely
Jack: "Are all the DBZ movies canon?" No, none of them. Except for Battle of Gods, Resurrection 'F', and DBS Broly, which they all appeared in the manga. Except for Broly, which was only a cameo and a few artworks. But, what's even better about these three is that they're canon, and they are the best ones.
Actually, this isn't the most off-hand order to watch. On Toonami, usually after the end of a big arc they'd do 1 of 2 things. Either Track all the way back to Episode 1, or play Movies on a weekly basis until the new dubbed episodes were out. Sometimes both, it was ridiculous. So a few shorts and movies before the next season feels almost nostalgic.
Jack is so ADHD Played Kakarot which incorporates backstory details from DB/DBZ Watched the whole first 2 seasons of DBZA IS STILL CONFUSED EVERY 6 SECONDS WATCHING THIS MOVIE
"Dikfast" is the conclusion to the earlier joke about brunch having a between-lunch-and-dinner counterpart called "Linner." It's midway between dinner and breakfast.
No DBZ Movie is Cannon Except Dragon Ball SUPER Broly Also yes goku did use the *power pole* before it was his main way of attacking before he got trained by master roshi
i wish teamfourstar could have gone all the way with their abridged series even up to the buu saga or dragon ball super cuz theres really awesome movies that jack probably wouldnt watch, like the Hirudegarn movie or the Janemba one
the nappa joke gets explained later on in the series, the piccolo wrist joke is a running gag where piccolo hurts his wrist alot because he opens alot of fights with a wrist strike, every time goku switches syllables in a word its a play on the whole linner brunch dinfeast word combinations
That staff is the power pole. it was a gift from grandpa gohan that goku has had since bulma found him in OG DB. he used it majority of dragon ball. you can see it in Kakarot holding Kamis lookout above korins tower. (its also the weapon of Son Wukong, an extendable staff)
Actually he's like 300 according to the Daizenshu which makes sense. Goku was 260 when he beat young King Piccolo then went to meet Kami right afterwards, mistook him for Piccolo and tried to attack him but Kami literally finger flicked him away, true not enough to decide the fight for sure but he clearly had to be a level above Goku
20:39 Cause this movie take place just after Dragon Ball and the very beginning of Z, so it was basically a sort of rematch if we can say, cause the final of Dragon Ball was Goku vs Piccolo
Your first movie lets gooooo. Thus begins the tradition of piccolo beating up minions named after food. The power pole is from Dragonball and is inspired by Journey to the West. They're probably fighting because at this point in the series they're still rivals/enemies, idk I haven't seen the movie. Dikfeast breakfast and dinner. Bardock and Trunks were specials
I'm sure someone else has answered this, but the staff is Nyoi'bo, and next to Kinto'un (the cloud) it's one of the most recognizable references to Journey to the West (where Goku's name and original concept is vaguely taken from). If you wanna blitz through the OG Dragon Ball at any time, maybe Bink Bonk's "Every Dragon Ball shortened episode" might be worth looking up. Bink Bonk literally edited every episode down to like a minute and a half, and it still explains everything shockingly well. Shows how drawn out the show can be at times, I guess!
It makes me sad that people either forget or are completely unaware of how Goku was based on Wukong and had that staff that could expand. One of the worst parts of dbz was them abandoning it.
22:30 He's talking about the meal between dinner and breakfast. 23:17 The context is that Krillin is pitching his movie idea to Nappa; who, as a reminder, became a producer after being brought back by the Dragon Balls.
The thing to remember about Goku and Piccolo fighting is that Piccolo was literally the final and most powerful bad guy of the original Dragon Ball story, before Dragon Ball Z came out. The start of Dragon Ball Z, and this movie is set only a couple of years later, so basically Piccolo is still an active threat, believing that he's a demon, and looking to conquer the world at this point. He doesn't start to change until he has to take care of and bonds with Gohan during the period that Goku is dead after the fight with Raditz. Hence his beef with Goku and the reason a lot of characters are skeptical about him for awhile once he does start reforming.
22:31 What you didn't understand here is the different meals Goku likes to eat. Diakfast (dinner - breakfast since it's dawning a new day), another of the most important meals of the day.
I like how when Jack points out the utter absurdity at what's going on, its not about the plot tfs added but rather was in the actual movie

That *punch noise* "Ehhh" as he flies into the Dead Zone kills me every single time I watch this movie. It's so perfectly done hahaha.
The movies are basically alternate events , the Dead Zone and Radditz happened the same day in separate timelines
Jack sees Gohan get crushed by rocks: "Gohan is dead!!!!"
Me: "Gohan is the strongest person in the movie. Lol"
The moment you realize jack probably has never seen original dragonball .... :O
Kinda hope he will watch it at some point ... OG dragonball is such a nice adventure story. Not about powerlevels and next transformation ... just a nice adventure story ...
The move gohan used is simply called anger shout. It was also used by multiple characters such as dbs ikari broly
All the Z movies (and GT) are considered their own continuity. So they are technically "canon" but are not a part of the main story.
I high-key recommend a watch party of all the non-canon DBZ Movies. But specifically in English, because the soundtracks featured shit like Disturbed, Pantera, Drowning Pool. It's so 2000s I feel a tribal tattoo forming on my arm.
The drugged apple really did happen. Watch it with the cute song that came with it, it’s glorious.
Jack Jack Jack stop pausing so much please ☠️ it’s like the girl in a movie theatre asking questions.
The fact that he doesn't know the Power Pole, or that Piccolo & Goku were enemies just makes me sad how he missed out on DB.
Ya I do wish he did like one stream of finding like a basic plot summary or like a what’s DB cannon multiple times I’ve been very annoyed by his confusion
i believe many people start with dbz tho and yeah, it's kinda... y'know.
@@handrandomizer That excuse should only be for those who grew with DBZ in the early 2000s. In these times people aren't forced to watch Z first.
@@LazySugarLover well i watch Dragon Ball so not my issue lmao
I love how they make fun of the plotholes of the movie, like they stealing Gohan instead of just take the hat... or try to kill Piccolo (obvious a stronger warrior) to kill Kami, instead of going direct for Kami... or how they try to kill Kami and then use the Dragon Balls, XD
The staff you saw him with was an item he carried through most of Dragon Ball. The Power Pole and Nimbus were sort of iconic to his character.
Jack's face during Gohan's drug trip scene is the hardest I'll laugh this Easter.
I love how TFS kind of canonizes the movies. Kinda.
Quick side note: the Dead Zone / World's Strongest double feature dvd has commentary with Garlic Jr voice actor Chuck Huber and Chris Cason the ADR director. It's pretty funny.
They definitely try harder to make them fit in canon than the actual movies' writers ever did.
Yeah, Piccolo was one of the main villains of the original series Dragon Ball, and was technically still a villain during the time referenced in this movie and until his sacrifice in the Saiyan Saga. It is sometimes easy to forget that, especially as time goes on.
20:50 Remember, Piccolo was still an enemy until he truly defended Gohan against Nappa
3:50 ok, the Four star dragonball is a very special item to Goku, that dragonball once belonged to Goku's adoptive Grandpa Gohan, and after Grandpa Gohan dies Goku treasure it as something very special to him
Gohan wears the dragonball in his hat as something kinda sentimental, since he is named after Goku's beloved Grandpa
and the idea of Gohan having a dragonball in his hat wasn't so dumb at the moment since Goku was the strongest being on the planet at that moment
the Four star dragonball is important too since Goku took the task to find the dragonballs twice just to find it again and is the reason Goku met Bulma at the very beginning
My favorite joke from this, which might be easily and understandably overlooked, is when Mr. Popo asks Kami "You ok in there?" At least to me, it reminds me of a parent asking a child if they are good while going to the bathroom after they were just potty trained 😅🤣
All of this is in fact real, the only really edited part art wise was the hallucinations scene with Gohan lol
also scene how Garlick jr was defeated
the abridged movies are funny and I definitely recommend watching them just because of that. but none of the DBZ movies are considered canon, only the DB Super movies are considered canon.
Yes. Gohan did in fact piss on him. That was in the original movie.
Dead zone is one of the few DBZ movies that could be canon.
Bojack too
@@juu4503 I've not seen that one but ok
4:51 I'm glad that Goku also eats Linner
16:35 On your comment about Goku's hair. The reason you have never seen his hair change is because a Saiyan's hair stops growing once it reaches a certain length and style that's unique too the individual then it basically never grows after that unless something cuts it.
Well the thing is as an adult he typically doesn't finish off his opponents but when he was a kid he had no qualms of doing that several times he decimated an entire army Base by himself
The big pole is the powerpole and he used it all throughout dragon ball until he met kami because he needed it to get from korin tower to the lookout
To clear your doubts about the movies: In terms of official Dragon Ball, the movies are not canon save for the more recent ones; but DBZA gets to change a few things to make them canon in relation to its own story. Otherwise, it's very hard to make them fit in the regular timeline.
Yeah, I was absolutely stunned when I found out about Gohan's drug trip as well.
just a few things to help you out and clear confusion:
all the movies in abridged are canon the abridged series.
kami actually has fought in og dragon ball and is actually pretty strong.
the staff goku is using is called the power pole and it was a weapon he used a lot as a kid in og dragon ball
"I have never seen Chichi fight", "I have never seen Kami fight", "What is this staff thing?", "Why do they (Goku and Piccolo) fight here?"
Dude you really need to watch OG Dragonball^^
In the movie the apple makes gohan drunk and by extension hallucinate, the abridged version just hyper exaggerated it to make it more of a trip.
The story is nothing amazing, but that's the case with a few of the movies tbh
Also Goku would SUPER murder those guys, he only started doing the "no killing" rule once with Piccolo Jr (Piccolo is technically a child/reincarnation of Demon King Piccolo, who Goku SUPER MURDERED in Drgaonball) and then tried to stick with it after Vegeta, but when he was a kid he would kill the fuck out of his enemies on a regular basis if they weren't in a tournament
I love how Jack just assumes every blue blast is a spirit bomb.
4:43 Funny thing is that Gohan can mean "lunch" in Japanese
DBZ movies aren’t considered canon technically. So these are just for fun when it comes to abridged. But they have some amazing jokes. I would just keep watching all of them in order. They don’t really have any impact on the main story other than jokes you might get
Excluding Battle of Gods and RoF
@@wateraus281 Battle of Gods and RoF movies aren't actually canon when it comes to Dragon Ball Super, the arcs in Super itself are though.
In the actual movie the apple seemed to have effects more like alcohol
Gohan tripping balls actually happened in the movie😂😂😂
Im not sure anyone ever told you, saiyan hair is the same from the day theyre born.
Also, gokus staff is the power pole. His adoptive grandpa gohan gave it to him, and it can grow basically infinitely
With the exception of beards and *MOUSTACHES*
Jack: "Are all the DBZ movies canon?"
No, none of them.
Jack is so ADHD
Played Kakarot which incorporates backstory details from DB/DBZ
Watched the whole first 2 seasons of DBZA
IS STILL CONFUSED EVERY 6 SECONDS WATCHING THIS MOVIE
"Dikfast" is the conclusion to the earlier joke about brunch having a between-lunch-and-dinner counterpart called "Linner." It's midway between dinner and breakfast.
I never got that until you brought it up! Freaking dammit! XD
No DBZ Movie is Cannon Except Dragon Ball SUPER Broly
Also yes goku did use the *power pole* before it was his main way of attacking before he got trained by master roshi
every single one of your questions can be answered by 'yes, in dragon ball'
I really can’t wait for the Fusion Reborn reaction
You don’t need the Abridged version to laugh 💀
Any attack: Somewhat circular and blue-ish
Jack: Is this a spirit bomb?
3:50 - Because he's Goku. If _I_ were Goku, I'd just default to "I'd like to see em just TRY and take it!"
i wish teamfourstar could have gone all the way with their abridged series even up to the buu saga or dragon ball super cuz theres really awesome movies that jack probably wouldnt watch, like the Hirudegarn movie or the Janemba one
Lmao ya gotta realize that almost everything that they show you legit happens, except the ending in this case
I believe you need to watch World Strongest DBA Abridged next. Happy to see your going to watch the movies too.
the nappa joke gets explained later on in the series, the piccolo wrist joke is a running gag where piccolo hurts his wrist alot because he opens alot of fights with a wrist strike, every time goku switches syllables in a word its a play on the whole linner brunch dinfeast word combinations
That staff is the power pole. it was a gift from grandpa gohan that goku has had since bulma found him in OG DB. he used it majority of dragon ball. you can see it in Kakarot holding Kamis lookout above korins tower. (its also the weapon of Son Wukong, an extendable staff)
Not all of them are cannon but Dead zone definitely is. Funny thing is this guy's are so posed to be Demons.
Kami only has a PL of 250, he's creator of the dragon balls but weak as an old namekian, he's 6x weaker than Raditz.
@@digitaladventurer2142 that's great
Garlic Jr. is the *_only_* DBZ villain who ever successfully wished for immortality.
20:39 Cause this movie take place just after Dragon Ball and the very beginning of Z, so it was basically a sort of rematch if we can say, cause the final of Dragon Ball was Goku vs Piccolo
This just unlocked a memory I have of a dream I had a long ass time ago after watching the original version on tv
That staff Goku is using is called the Power Pole, and it was his main weapon in Dragon Ball
I have never seen someone watch DBZA with zero knowledge of the series and it’s a bit amusing
"Goku wouldn't murder them"
Kid Goku with his over 1000 kill count:suuuuuure
22:31 What you didn't understand here is the different meals Goku likes to eat. Diakfast (dinner - breakfast since it's dawning a new day), another of the most important meals of the day.
thought episode 31 was dropping today 🗿
Yeah it said in his community tab he was gonna upload 31-32 🗿
Don't forget to watch dbz kai abridged. It's like 3 minutes summary of each arc
