That huge turtle at 11:12 is a Common Snapping Turtle (Chelydra serpentina). It's a large species of turtle native to North America, and is the most common type of Snapping Turtle (hence its name). They can live for many decades, and feed on aquatic vegetation, nuts, berries, grapes, small fish, reptiles, amphibians, insects, crustaceans, and sometimes small mammals and birds if the opportunity presents itself.
It's also very easy to tell the difference between Common Snapping Turtles (CST) and Alligator Snapping Turtles (AST). ASTs are larger than CSTs. They also have Alligator-like ridges running along their backs (hence their name), whereas CSTs don't have that. CSTs also have much longer necks than ASTs, which makes them more dangerous to handle since they can reach around and bite you, whereas ASTs can't do that. ASTs live in fast-flowing rivers and streams, whereas CSTs live in lakes and ponds.
If you ever see a Snapping Turtle out in the wild, it's, more often than not, a Common Snapping Turtle.

alligator snappers are a little more on the plus +side with their size but can be easily mistaken for a common in their adolescent state. They don't start getting that more growly look till mid adulthood but this solely depends on their genetics so that can vary 💯💯

I agree with above! This is a “Bucket List” opportunity!! No matter what “we” say you should absolutely go flying.
As for the Turtle, yes I believe you have an Alligator Sapper. I worked at a camp below Opp Alabama for several summers 40+ years ago. We would walk around the ponds edge at night and see the turtle fishing with their mouth open and their “lure” just a flickering. Sometimes the big fish just can’t resist that lure and the turtle will get them.
Just watch out where you put your feet and hands in the water, they can blend into the background very well!!!

@BamaBass I know how to make your Pond look as clear as a swimming pool!! You don't seem to have any cleaner shrimp in the pond, so If you stock your pond with Micro-Fauna like Daphnia and Moina Micropopa, they'll go after all of that phyto plankton floating around that's making it look green.
I hope this helps! With a very generous stocking of these that whole pond will be crystal clear.

That is a common snapping turtle. Yeah that's the actual name for them. Alligator snappers have a much larger head and mouth

I'm glad someone else (other than me) knew the correct type of snapping turtle that was. Too many automatically think every snapping turtle is an "alligator snapping turtle". The common snapping turtles are much more aggressive and mean.

@@cuivre2004 Fellas used to catch them from our lake in DE ( they made snapper soup ) They drug them up on the shore & a big one literally bit a 2x4 in half like it was straw they have a powerful bite

You should make one bank of the pond heavily covered with trees and stuff. It would provide structure for the fish and give it a more natural look!

Habitat size plays a big role in growth rate and max size the fish can reach. I’ve been keeping fish for 20+ years. I’ve noticed when upgrading them to bigger tanks or ponds they grow, even if they haven’t grown in months or years!

I love your commentary. You have the best pond build channel hands down. I remember when you built the aquarium. To see you start from a glass tank to a backyard pond to this; has been an amazing journey to follow. Thank you so much! I can’t wait for your next video.

anyone else miss the night feedings, maybe it looks better in person in the day but the night times were so cool seeing the shadows of all the fish in front of the light. just the big school of fish fighting for food.
