    I remember the first time I went to a koi shop. They had soooo many gorgeous fish, and I absolutely loved going there. But the ones that really stole my heart, and made it to where even now, 15 years later, I have been unable to give up on hoping and dreaming of one day having a koi pond of my own, was the most STUNNING, perfectly matched pair of Hi Utsuri butterfly koi. The bodies, not including their extra long fins, were at least 1 ft long, the black was jet, the orange was almost more red than orange, and the colours were practically a perfect 50/50 split in alternating nice sized splotches. I saw many gorgeous fish that day, but heavens, if I ever do get my own land so that I can have a pond once again, I won't be resting til I too have a gorgeous pair of them. I haven't finished the video, and I'll have to watch more of yours, but if you don't have at least 1 Hi Utsuri, I recommend thinking about it, whether you go standard or butterfly. There's just something mesmerizing about them

Would love an update every 3 months or so on the pond and the garden which your dad has done an awesome job on. Totally different scale but I have a 500L cichlid tank in my house and sit by it for hours at night, its my happy place in a mad house with 2 little girls haha.

Brings much needed calm and a lot of joy as it sounds like you get with your fish keeping - a 500L Cichlid tank sounds unbelievably awesome! For sure, would've loved to have filmed a bit more of the pond this year but things got a bit busy! will definitely have something out next Spring, and will try to do an autumn update next year also.

      @Max Mock Not sure sure about your logic there. Fish have personalities and can become bored, "depressed," extra agressive, and/or stressed from lack of stimulation. From the viewers perspective, also, don't you find aquariums with reefs or vegetation much more interesting to watch than the empty tanks in restaurants or fish stores? Do a quick Google search before posting untrue opinions.

    • @MrXiaoqiao
      @MrXiaoqiao Год назад +2

      @Max Mock They need hides and shade, lilies and other vegetation is highly recommended by koi keepers. That to me doesn't sound like they like bland environments. But it's your life and fish... I suppose if you're ok with them being bored, there's no arguing with stubbornness. Good luck 🤟

I do love the orange one with the black pinecone markings. I've been planning a pond build for a year or two, I'd love to fill it with one of each type of koi however I think I'd have to go down the route of growing from fry to afford the ones I want and then watch them grow.

    Hi! Really enjoyed watching your entire process. Thought you were pretty patient w your various leak setbacks. Gorgeous kois! Q. If plants are problematic, how about some clear tunnels...like a small obstacles course to give these intelligent creatures something to do? Maybe some big rocks too. Later, add a waterfall feature. Add a small sunsail tarp on one area if they need some shade. Q.Do you ever play classical music for them? Enjoy your cool backyard!🙂👏

    You did a fantastic job on this whole video. I looked at the length of it and assumed I would be skipping ahead. But it was super interesting and very well done. It sped by. Thanks for all the effort in recoding and editing this. I can only imagine how long it took. Also - the single-colored fish look great. That was a surprise. Haha! Thanks for the great entertainment.

Absolutely LOVED this! I DO have a question though!! What happened to Charlie's eggs? Did you dispose of them, and if so why? Would really love to know your process!

    While procrastinating two projects, I think I made a good decision to watch an hour+ video because as a person who also loves sea and related creatures, there is something very inspiring about this video. Thanks! (Also it’s late but the steel and orange fish in the bucket made me think of yin and yang so there’s a name idea…)

    This is an excellent build! Beautiful and well made!
    My two cents for the bog filter is to use lava rock of varying sizes. Nitrosomonas and nitrospiria will have something like 100x more surface area to latch on to and multiply than on river rock.
    I use that and LECA in my aquaponics gardens and my fish tank has been ammonia and nitrite free!

    There should be a waterproof membrane before the concrete slab. In addition, since the concrete block wall is a retaining wall, there should be L bars connecting the foundation and the blocks and reinforced bars horizontally and vertically to keep the wall steady.

    I love that you can see them from your office window, I keep my reptiles in my line of sight too, to observe, make sure they’re doing well and when they want to come out of their enclosures and free roam, explore.
    How the heck do you grow tropical plants outside in the UK? We’ve got 40 degree summers but the winters would kill anything, I have to pull them all inside
