Conjugate has made it’s mark in history. It has it’s place in every gym too. I noticed my body comp change and because of the variety really made me WANT to train.

At 50, training conjugate is a God-send! It hasn’t been easy, meaning it’s taken a while to get the programming down to know it’s working. Sure, I can change whatever I want each workout and ignore if it’s helping or hurting. Paying attention to the very small positives is key. In fact, if I hit my 90% max on bench and it felt better, moved better than the last time I did 90%, I’m more ecstatic than if I hit a PR.

I read all of Louies books and practice and science of strength training. Applied those methods and have lifted max almost every week for the last 4 years. My deadlift went from 390 to 683 and have NEVER been hurt. This includes while playing ice hockey at a high level. It changed the game for me!

Using this method for about 6 months, walking a ton, plus the vertical diet, completely changed my body composition. Also I feel(unprofessional opinion) the gains/body comp had lasted longer after slacking a ton on the lifting

At 45, I’ve found that training conjugate has helped me stay healthy both physically and mentally due to the rotation. For years I had good results with 5/3/1, but found that as a I got older I was feeling more beat down and just not recovering as well(I’m not saying it was 5/3/1’s fault). But after reading stuff from Matt, Dave, Tate, and Mark Bell, I decided to give conjugate a try. It’s been going great, I feel good, and for the most part it’s easy to mentally dial in for each session. I did purchase Matt’s powerlifting manual and typically follow the framework of the one of the example templates he has in there because his example lifter has similar weakness as I do. It took a little awhile to get my speed work right, but for the last couple of years, I’ve made great progress. This is great info as always, and anyone interested should grab a manual.

I’ve been implementing alot of your protocols. I’ve been doing something similar to the Wenning Warm ups but not in a circuit style, I think I’ll start incorporating that more often when feasible in a public, often crowded gym. I’ve also been implementing more of a conjugate style but again, not to the T (not doing max effort singles every week, but alot of dynamic work, attacking my weaknesses, focusing on actually pre fatiguing a bit for warm ups and not just “onesie twosies”. I’ve been doing this style really getting the speed work in on a consistent basis, also looking at increasing volume across the board, and taking what I’ve been learning from you and I find myself just getting closer and closer to full on conjugate. Similar layout, different pieces right now, but yeah man. I feel great training like this, and I also feel more confident, and less pressure, I also feel like my workouts have a “volume back up” either from the Wenning Warm up style approach, or by keeping different rep ranges and approaches in mind, to where I’m often feeling like I walk out with a great workout, more limber, etc.. even if I’m not always hitting heavy single PRs.
But I want to start incorporating more strictly max effort, I feel like after taking the approach I have, getting plenty in the tool box and taking notes and learning from you and others about Conjugate, that I think I can get to crackin’. I also have the mentality that this is a new approach overall, singles may fluctuate, and I don’t let it be the definitive factor because at the end of the day it could be due to an increase in volume, maybe I’m slightly fatigued still, etc. It’s not just about hitting new singles every time, but doing the consistent regime which in the long run I believe will build more substantial growth for those singles. But I’m packin on the mass and movin fast!

Of course having specialized equipment is great when running a conjugate program, but you can still do lots of different stuff using just a bar through changing stances, grips, range of motion, speed of the reps, adding pauses and changing many other variables.
