So important! Listen to Matt Wenning! How many guys in their 40s have squatted 520x24. Takes very well thought out training and recovery to do that. This channel is a real gift to the strength training community.
Matt look at Ben Patrick on knee over toe exercises for knee… he’s rehabbing many people… mark bell is one of them… Tyreek Hill too . I used his program and it helped me. It’s definitely worth a look and testing. Matt for hip flexors , the old school locked feet sit up works well… look at Hershel walker , he had no hip Issues, because he did hundreds of sit-ups.
Lower back training is money for health and strength. Ever since adding in heavy back extensions my back has never felt better. And yet I get people in the gym telling me it’s dangerous. I say it’s dangerous not training your lower back.
I've never thought of unstable work for shoulders. That's smart af. Great Video, thanks for the info. I'm a younger dude and it's nice to know the information you guys spent years figuring out so I can learn from your mistakes and breakthroughs.
Added Banded Reverse Hypers to my wenning warm up and set a new pr on the belt squat later in the session.... Matt you just don't get the recognition you deserve but for what's its worth thank you very much 💪😎
So helpful! I'm not a powerlifter at all so the main thing that has drawn me to you is your longevity. Dude that has lifted HEAVY for that long with no injury is worthy of attention.
Great video. Youve basically saved many gym bros from potential injurys and subsequent lost gains. I try and do face pulls at the end of every workout. Not only did my rear delts grow but I have zero shoulder pain when doing heavy presses/dips etc. Tip for those with longer arms: Instead of using one rope attachment, use two. You will really be able to externally rotate your shoulders properly and will FEEL it much more!
One of your best videos. Extremely helpful. Unfortunately I don't think the young ones will pay attention, til they're in their 30s and body is a wreck like so many of us.
I'm 17, about a month from 18, and can assure you, at least one young one will listen. I'm gonna be adding a few of these to my routine, I'm not concerned about my knees at all, because I've been taking care of those since I started lifting, but I know my shoulders and lower back will be very greatful for this video in ten-twenty years.
Thank you very much for that video! Greatly appreciate to learn from your experiences in order to be able to work until a high age without hurting myself doing it!
Never tried a Superman, but the Face Pull and Cuban press are staple exercises for me on my light active recovery days in the gym. After I injured myself on the bench press, I deduced that a lack of stability in the shoulder girdle was the likely culprit. These two exercises, as well as benching with the bamboo bar, have been huge factors in allowing me to bench confidently and pain-free again. Your information and wisdom has always been and continues to be top notch Matt.
So glad to hear youre going to discuss more "knees over toes" type scenarios. I have gone from a powerlifting style squat to a more olympic style and Ive always wanted to know your opinion on something like that. Looking forward to it!
I can't find elsewhere- the type of information you providing on RUclips... I really felt the difference by following your upper body warmup routine and now my shoulders are in better health. Very much appreciated 🙏🙏
Matt, This video was one of your best, I immediately shared it with my team, keep kicking ass my bro you are inspiring and educating at the same time 🏆🏆🏆
Really pleased to see the subs going up. This channel is just gold. Nicely pitched and from a guy that’s been along good and bad roads. Thanks Matt, this is a fantastic channel.
This is so informative, this are exercise that can be added to my routine specially VMO raises and alternate leg raises those are important for me for those reasons you mention .
Great content as usual. Things never thought of or considered. Glad you have so much experience with lifting way above average weight and put this gold out for us to input into our training.
I'm going to give some supermans and cuban presses a try. I've been looking for exercises other than face pulls to work my rotator cuff/rear delts. Great information as always Matt!
There is another Cuban Press with barbell. Looks totally different and is used by olympic weightlifters to stabilize shoulder grid .Wonder why the same name.
Interesting repertoire. Banded reverse hyper is nice when training from home. Wonder if I can sub kettlebell swings for pull throughs? Working on unassisted Nordics and some extra soleus work has definitely helped with strengthening the knee. As has doing front squats or goblet squats on a slant board/on plates to hit more depth
Matt are you are going after Platz's record I saw, I saw you did 520 for 24. 5 more pounds and it'll be a record, your very close. It looked pretty easy the 24 reps, other guys tried it and blacked out at 17. You should put on RUclips get the hype going. Good luck I hope you get it.

Matt Wenning pumping out solid gold. Pay attention people!
I could only hope people listen. But seems an uphill battle with 400lb boots
