this is what we call, choice paralysis, it's the same thing that happens when you look at your shelf of physical games or you see all the games in your steam library yet you don't know which one to play, there's so much choice that making a choice feels impossible because it feels like your missing out on something else by making a choice

Agreed. But I do love stepping outside the two. It's so refreshing, and GBFVSR fills that extremely well it's wild. But it's also tough when I come back I have no idea what time doing anymore/my fingers are all confuzzled 😂 plus if you support those games it helps the community and leads to innovation in the long run.

So glad GBVR has been given a new life, having so much fun with it. Definitely trying not to give into the "but what about..." with the new games coming. Tekken's the one that I'm most likely to go "but I 'should' be playing that instead" for whatever reason, though I still want to see that the online is actually up to the other stuff out there now. French Bread's games are very cool but I know that they're not really for me. Gonna try real hard to stick on GBVR and hopefully they'll continue to bring it on supporting the game.

It is not just that it's too much to play, you're not even taking into account that for you to leave the casual-enthusiast level of a fg you will need to invest hours training specific things in specific scenarios on top of maintaining your execution sharp and your knowledge of the game on point.
I developed this fear to enter a fighting game cause i know how much i would get involved and that i don't would get satisfied with just a bnb and be a casual for the rest of its lifetime.
If you're wondering i played Gen in usf4 at some sort level as xian with piano fadc cancels and all the jazz of the specific combos for different hurtboxes for the entire roster. I tried to play sfv with one of the less limited chars Urien but i wasn't able to invest the time i wanted and i felt frustrated with my time and my hunger to master every japan setup video for the mirror combos and setups.
When fighting games get easier for sure sucks, but also even if you could invest the same time as in our teenage years you shouldn't if you will not get something big in exchange as a youtube channel a twitch stream or so. It's not a waste of time it's fun and better with a community that travels and such but it's also time, that you will not have in the future, unless you're rich.
But yeah, i am talking about just picking one game not 2 simultaneously, just one but for real. 2 is way too much even for paid gamers. No , tokido did not count , this is the same reason he stopped. The same for others. The only reason Chris G keeps entering 10 tournaments per major is because he knows no one trains and cause he already have somehow a stream and such generating. But you barely see people entering more than 1 tournaments at majors, specially on new or current titles.
In short, invest your time one year per game and you will get the best of what you're looking for. Unless you're rich and you can just eat years and not go bankrupt.

I very casually got into fighting games during dbfz- not because of the franchise (though I love it) - but because of the visual fidelity.
Walking into a community of senior fgc players didn’t scare me, but not being able to tell what I did wrong in MVC3 with a thousand particle efffects and less clear animations turned me off from it. DBFZ let me learn the basics and dig a little deeper, but I never went all the way.
Then Guilty Gear came out and I was hooked. The animation fidelity was there. The strong offense was there, but defensive options were soooo much better. It gave me enough counter play to spend some time in the lab and sink my teeth into it. I know many content creators have already talked about it - but cool characters and satisfying animations really bring the casual audience in. It just so happened that the rest of the game let me go all in and understand the finer points of frame data, set play, etc.
I’m hype for all the new games, but I did start to feel fatigue - glad to see that I’m not the only one, but weirdly it’s let me really appreciate going back and learning how to “master” the last generation of titles. Not being worried about patch rotations lets me sit in SF5 and grind out optimals and learn real footsies. It’s almost like the new game fatigue has pushed me into playing older games so that I can learn at a slower pace while juggling work, social games, and the like. All in all I’m excited for the future of fighting games.

For new games, I'm interested in Tekken 8. Generally, I prefer Soulcalibur or Dead or Alive over Tekken, but since neither of those have a new installment on the horizon, I (and probably a lot of other 3D fighting game players) will be playing it. The demo was pretty fun, too (and worked on Steam Deck--a real surprise).
I'm curious about Rivals 2, but I'm worried. Melee is the Smash installment I enjoy the least, so I'm not sure if I would like a game that touts similarity to it. That, and there isn't a character who really sticks out to me, unlike with most other games.
Aside from those, I'm enjoying Granblue, SF6, and want to get better at SamSho. I'd like to try MK1 as well since I've never played an NRS game, but the PC port isn't good (and it doesn't work well on Steam Deck).

Really? I personally feel like I have too little to play, pretty much every major fighting game lately has released or will release without regional pricing so they're prohibitively expensive, the only fighting games I've played from this year are yomi hustle which is 5 dollars and the granblue free version, and of the games coming out next year I'm only planning on getting R2 since T8 and uni2 are confirmed to not have regional pricing. I value regional pricing as the most important thing for a fighting game to have, more than rollback, more than good singleplayer, those things don't matter if the playerbase can't actually afford the game

Alright... but Capcom alone was making too many fgs from the mid to late 90s... and SNK made much more fgs than Capcom, which even lasted longer... and besides those were other companies making fgs often like Midway (MK)... And besides those there was a solid wave of minor fgs on arcade and console exclusives. A single company released new games literally in 1-3 years. (3 years was even a "too long" wait in terms of the 90s fg scene)

Excellent video! I'm finding myself in this exact dilemma and it's both a blessing and a curse!
I already bought GBVSR, and I'll probably spend most of my gaming time with it, it's just too good! I like so much more than everything that's out right now, and I don't expect that to change any time soon (there is so much to learn and practice!), but I also want to play some TK8 and especially UNI2.
For me, it was either buy UNI2 or TK8, and I was thinking of getting UNI2, just because TK8 will still have 1k+ regular players after two years, and TBH, I like UNI way more than TK, but now I'm actually planning to buy both on release and just dabble with them on the side along with GBVSR.
Basically, I plan to play GBVSR three days a week, UNI2 two days a week, and TK8 once a week. The remaining day of the week I cyble between Xrd, GGST and BBCF, or any novelty that happens to drop that week (like a beta or maybe the official release of DBFZ rollback etc...).
I am also very interested in ROA2 because I don't play any platform fighters and I'm thinking it would be my gateway into them, as it is the one that seems closest to Smash on PC.
BTW, 12:50 it's been a long time since I have the weapon but I believe you can craft it in Siero's shop for either Katalina or Vira, and it will give you the trophy, but you'll have to grind for the materials (medals especially are RNG and pretty low drop rate). Still, different quests have a higher drop rate for specific weapons, and while I don't remember which ones give you Luminiera's Blade, it will probably be one where you fight either Katalina or Vira as a boss in hard mode, so try clearing that quest fast and use the support skill that increases drop rate (twice, for your character and the partner) along with the Vyrn weapons that do the same in the grid. Hope it helps!
I fully sympathise with you on this trophy quest, as myself too am stuck with two of Anre's weapon skins (although they're not tied to a trophy) and I still don't have the two trophies where you have to play a quest with another player online...

From 10 player discord fighters to the big boys, they all demand full box price plus big chunks for DLC characters or season passes. Meanwhile they jump around and play every other genre freely, investing in cosmetics and stuff where they want to.

Another issue is that, now, fighting games are much more expensive than in the arcade days. Back then, kids could go to the arcade regularly and get good at a ton of games with only pocket change from their parents. Now, there are the same number of "must play" games, and you have to pay full price for all of them plus DLC. Yes, the arcade era had its own problems, but at least credits were cheap.

And the 00s had much less option than the 90s. All Capcom fg franchises were already dead for example, except MvC... But since MvC2 was exactly from 00, maybe that doesn't count to debunk the statement. And CvS was made in 00 and the sequel in 01, and died. Also from SNK, only KoF and Samsho were alive in the 00s among fgs, when they had 6 fg franchises in the 90s.

I chose the late 90s and early 2000s cause I felt that’s when EVO and the FGC really took off. There were many quality games in those eras that’s why they’re GOATs. Some of the other notable games had people playing at my local arcades. DOA, VF, Soul Calibur, Vampire Saviour, and some other niche titles. It’s 2024.. of course those games wouldn’t be trending now. They’re over 2 decades old. My response was to the title as I found myself playing a lot of fighting games back then.

It doesn't help alot of people have kinda..gotten addicted to the patch hype. And if a game isn't getting constant patches, updates, DLC, it dies. Unless it's the big 3 sf,mk,tekken. Anything els 2 to 3 months in they moving to another game or going back to play something familiar.
There's no more. It is what it is when it comes to fighting games. It's easier to just go play something els or wait for a patch to take out somthing you don't like.
I believe that's why the big 3 always last simply because they are most well known games. That get the most support. So even 2 or 3 months in. It really doesn't matter.
More people will always be watching the tournaments, attending them. The prize pools bigger. The genre is kinda backed into corner and very few want it to come out. Why play game full of unfamiliar characters when they can keep going back to the same faces over and over and over again. With the same mechanics and gamplay, move sets, costumes. We've gotten so addicted to familiarity.

About Sajam wanting Rollback, all I want for a Fighting Game is:
"Does it have a good Single Player? Does it have content, replay value and progress to have my desire to keep coming back, or will it be barebones, all 100% unlocked and with no content other than "get good" as Counter-Strike?"
I'm a good racing player thanks to Gran Turismo, because it has an amazing Career and progress, thus making me want to learn more and eventually get me Online.
Fighting Games has... "Gran Turismo License Test"-like modes, a repetitive story gameplay that ask me "Why not expand Arcade since it's basically that?" and everything's unlocked that makes me want to retire quickly.
That's my 2024 crisis... Well, Fighting Games in general, unless we're talking about Smash Bros. like Brawl.

Subspace Emissary, Classic, All-Stars (Classic but bit different), Missions(?), 3 Mini-Games, Boss Rush, custom modes, custom stages and more stages other than a flat one.
And on top of all that, the game isn't complete on the start. Collecting Trophies, Stickers and unlocking fighters was a blast!
Especially when the game rewards you for playing other characters, difficulties and modes, which means experimenting and dedication is found on me, something other Fighting Games fails other than "It's there, if you like."
Now I heard -seen the Online is trash, and yes tripping is BS, *I did lost many times because of that,* but I could see myself playing Online.
      Compared to DNF Duel:
Battle, Battle but story, Battle but Arcade, Battle but Survival (all Battles contain the same stage), Training, Combo Trail...

I remember when I used to play by myself in fighting games, and I always like Vs. CPU mode because I could play whoever I wanted against any character I wanted at any stage. But Tekken 6's scenario campaign was really fun, and TTT2's combot tutorial mode thingy was cool too. I'm excited to see what offerings single player-wise will be available in Tekken 8, even if I would mostly be playing online.

Well, you *can* win races Online with a controller (L2/R2 and the analog stick(s) ), just like I can beat mouse and keyboard player with a controller in Shooters.
Just make sure to adjust your driving sensitivity and others that fits you/your vehicle.
And, importantly, not all controller are equal (even outside of controllers), even from the same company.
I once had a PS3 controller by Sony with a stick of an accuracy of a "Contol Freek" accessory. ...Just once, out of 5+. It was awesome! (Now you see why people say controllers can't "compete")
Now yes, a wheel gives you more range of steering and pressing pedals than a controller, thus easier to maintain an angle, and while safe I'd say test out your controller first to see if you're happy or not with the results.
I sure need a new controller... The new one I have had bad deadzones, with the analog sticks reaching 100% of input without pushing 100% of the sticks. (Not made by Sony)

I reckon it's just gonna be what we've been seeing this entire time, just a ton of focus around established games, if arcsys releases a new anime fighter like DBFZ though with rollback on release I could easily see that taking up a huge portion of the fgc playerbase depending on what IP the game has.

    @Phantom_Zer0 9 месяцев назад +1

I'm 43 I've played fighting games casually offline throughout the decades and last year i decided to get into fighting games, so here is my "tragedy" 😂.
So i decided to get into fighting games but since i couldn't do proper inputs with controllers i decided to save money for an arcade stick (this was in late 2022), a few months later 2023 i finally bought the stick, i could finally do everything properly (yes the people who say that a stick won't improve your experience are lying of course, influencers are very good at gaslighting) so i was so happy, i was playing arcade games on the stick and that was also cool.
Ok so now i needed a fighting game, SF6 was coming and i was going to get that one, until Tekken 8 was announced, i only have money for one and it has to be Tekken, i also hate the new characters in SF6 so it made it easier to forget SF6. So I've been training with older fighting games offline, played almost every Tekken, until the day i finally got the T8 demo... It runs like hell on my PC 😭, my dreams are crushed i need a fighting game, i try GBFVR, it's another simplified controls game for casual players, new players are making 30hit combos like it's nothing while I'm playing with the classic inputs and basic combos, plus the game forces me to listen to the English voices if the other player is using English, this is not for me i hate streamlined games.
So now the irony of having so many choices and nothing suits me besides Tekken. 😂
Street Fighter 6, i hate the new characters and aesthetics of the game.
Mortal Kombat 1, female characters are horrible and everyone else is lame, best MK was MK9.
    Gbfvr is for casuals.
King of fighters 15 is awesome but basically dead.
    Killer instinct, basically dead.
    Soul calibur 6, dead.
Guilty gear... I'm not sure, i like the older ones better.
BlazBlue, amazing but not many people play it.
Undernight 2, i was never a fan, and it will have simplified controls too.
So many choices but either they suck or they are mostly empty, and I'm not going to spend so much money on a game with so few players.
Yeah i know this will trigger people but that's how it is, i really don't like simplified controls, new players like me should not be able to pull 20 to 30hit combos, they wouldn't be able to do that in BlazBlue. I guess I'll have to play another genre after all 🥴.

    • @acorteziii
      @acorteziii 9 месяцев назад +1

UNI did not have simple inputs. It updated its autocombo system called "smartsteer" which it already had in the previous version. In any case, you aren't going to be getting 20-30 hit combos with whatever the system ends up with as you fear. Also, I have never had a problem getting KOF XV matches, though I did hear this depends on your location. Not sure when you last tried it, but KOF XV improved their matchmaking and got crossplay at some point so your experience may have been before those changes.

    • @Phantom_Zer0
      @Phantom_Zer0 9 месяцев назад +1

@@acorteziii i didn't play KOF15 I've seen the low amount of players on steam charts which i know it's just pc but around 300 players is low and it will only decrease with the release of T8. About UNI2 that's good to know, but my biggest fear is a game dying of quickly and with so many fighting games the player base with spread out, this feels like the MMO rpg years when there was mmos all over the place and none could hold the player base except for the big names, i remember getting into empty mmos a lot 😂.
Hey man really i appreciate your input, thanks for the information i might check out UNI1 single player to see if i like it. 👍

With the difference that FF is related to SF in lore. So maybe something is made to force BB into the GG lore. After Akuma in TK7 story anything is possible.
Or Arcsys starts a crossover franchise that lets BB appear... kinda like KoF became a home to protect chars from dead SNK franchises to fall into obscurity. Also like MvC sheltered Morrigan since the 1st one.
