I had the pleasure of seeing Jessica Vosk as Elphaba for my first Wicked play and I honestly cannot find anyone who played her better. She is by far my favorite.
Absolutely love her voice!
She was my 6th Elphaba but my favorite. Her voice is so perfect.
Jessica Vosk is truly a wonderful vocalist. I had the wonderful opportunity to see her play Elphaba before she left, and also went to one of her concerts. It was a delight and a treat to hear her use that beautiful instrument.
The girl you said is 'cute' is Lindsay Pearce. She was also on Glee as Harmony, a guest bit where she sang Broadway. She's very talented.
yayayayay someone knows, as soon as she came onto the screen I was like YES LINDSAY!
Omg thank you!!! I was like why does she look familiar!!!!!
I loved her on there. And on The Glee Project. I didn't know she went on to do Wicked.
Omg Gerber baby!!
Sadly my favourite Elphaba isn't in the Video. It's Willemijn Verkaik, she is the queen of Elphabas performing the role in four different countries in 3 different languages. It would be amazing if you could react to her.

Omg yes!! I also hope she will react to Willemijn Verkaik some day. 🥰
Yes! She's the best!
That lady can BLOW you can hear the pipes on her
She wasn’t trying to show the change in dynamics with her body, she was showing the change in placement from back to forward and back again. I liked that about Rachel.
oh ok 🥰 🥰 🥰
Agreed, I think generally in musical Theater we are allowed to “move” our bodies. I’m not sure what genre you sing in where you should sing standing still, but Rachel was channeling the character of a witch right? And I think it was quite thing to use her body?
and in theatre we study that Voice and body are just onde thing
I thought the coach was terribly unfair to Rachel. Rachel dominated the West End for years, then Broadway. She was one of the most consistent Elphabas out there. Never got tired vocally, her bootleg videos are consistent from one end of her runs to the other. She always portrayed a tense Elphaba in the first act, because hey, Elphaba is a tense character. She's uptight and full of anger and frustration that's all bottled up. DG is a turning point, but the character is still in transition. I find JV 'affectated', too slidey for me, but the coach thought she sounded efortless and light-going. Is that really what the song is about? I find this commentary too concentrated on isolated vocal technique and not about the meaning behind this song. After all, MT should be about story-telling, and I found Rachel had a real vision over the character. Besides, I think she's the only singer actress I know that didn't say how the role floored her. Almost everybody complains what a taxing role it is to sing 8 times a week. Rachel did it for years on end. So did Kerry, but again, this coach thought these girls sounded 'unhealthy'.
It’s really amazing to hear them all together…and to hear Jessica Vosk coming in at the middle sounding like a clear bell after everyone else! They are all fantastic singers, but there is something about Jessica Vosk’s voice (and Shoshana’s) that just has this clear and full sound to it (like there is more sound and less air??) that is so different than all the others.
I’ve only been to New York once and Jessica Vosk happened to be playing Elphaba and I literally just sat in complete awe for 3 hours.
Tyler Funnyman💗💗Love love this! 💗💗
Ahh Jessica Vosk is my absolute favorite! Please react to more of her!
When she came on I was screaming!!! I love her❤️❤️❤️
She’s so good! Her voice always sounds so healthy and balanced 😍
ruclips.net/video/QBWsRjkWahs/видео.html maybe like this specifically:))))

What should I react to next??? 🤔 🤔 🤔
What do you think?
It's super interesting to hear so many distinguished performers all performing the same thing together. It really helps to highlight the differences in technique, that might not be so obvious if you listen to them individually.
I've seen - I think - 9 Elphabas live. And they've all brought something new and different to the character. Such a tough role to play.
each new Elphie is just a new interpretation of the character!
Jessica Vosk is EVERYTHING to me ❤️
Icaro Pedro✨🥰🥰✨
Lindsay Mendez is my favorite Elphaba of all time on broadway. she’s so good not just acting but singing and the green fits so good in her 💚
All my Elphies are in this video and they were all fantastic during their runs… got to see Shoshana Bean, Stephanie J Block, and Julia Murney… they all sound incredibly different but they were all magical when I got to see them defy gravity! 🥹❤️
Jessica Vosk is a queen, she’s SO talented and also hilarious. She was on tour before Broadway and I was so mad because that was the one year Wicked didn’t come to me city. Love her!💚
That last 30 seconds was epic. The final belt is iconic and it's cool to hear them all together like that.
I love how you could do all their voices!
Sending a 🥰virtual hug🥰
Omg I love Eden Espinosa. Absolute queen.
You don’t see it much in this song but she truly is amazing
Yes she is!!!!
@@SongsFromASuitcase
She’s my favourite Elphie and my Idol💚
I would love to hear your thoughts on Willemijn Verkaik, who originated the role in Germany, The Netherlands (her home country) and then went onto Broadway and the West End to play the role. She played the role for 10 years on and off.
Her riffs are insane as well.
ruclips.net/video/p-nEVKZTwYE/видео.html
Julia Murney has said that she's an alto so this role should be really high for her, maybe it's from straining when playing it although it's always sounded pretty healthy to me. She also said that she had classical training (I don't know if that makes a difference). She was also one of the first Elphabas so maybe, like Idina, her voice has changed over time. These are all just theories, I'm only going on what people have said
Edit 1 (if you haven't guessed, I'm writing this as I'm watching the video): A lot of people say that Rachel Tucker has an unsustainable technique and yet she is the West Ends longest running Elphaba. I've never understood that.
Edit 2: Great video, very insightful! Plugging my ear, finally a bad singing habit that I don't have 😂😂
Gilles Tompkins💗💗Love love this! 💗💗
yeah julia murney always had a more mature voice. but her voice definitely sounds aged but sooo lovely
SJB was born to play Cher - the tongue pulling back makes her more Cher. And with that being her last role she played definitely makes sense
I almost wish they had just done that ending with all of them in harmony. It’s kind of awkward listening to that ending being extended lol
Definitely, I love hearing them do it, but that ending was just so.... awkward. And hearing each of the girl in harmony would be killer
Yes I totally agree!
Two of my Ephabas I’ve seen in person are in this, Kerry Ellis was my first in 2007 and Jessica Vosk my third and latest as of now in 2016. Jessica’s Defying Gravity made me ugly cry it was so powerful.
Unfortunately Willemijn wasn’t in the video!
Fortunately, it's not that deep.
ikr
You cant have it all I guess 😞
Whew, Jessica Vosk by a mile to me! BTW, you have a remarkable ability to replicate each singer's voice. That was a cool surprise! 😎
tbh all the elphabas snatched my wig 😍 it was so interesting to hear your take on their different techniques!
Chelsea N.💗💗Love love this! 💗💗
Yesssssss Shoshana is one of my favourite Elphaba's! Thanks for this video! ❤️❤️
shaaa✨🥰🥰✨
I don’t know if you know this, but some of these only performed in the West End (Alexia Khadime) and some started in the West End and then transferred to Broadway’s production afterwards (Rachel Tucker/Kerry Ellis)!
This is so cool!!! 💕
I absolutely love Kerry Ellis!!! You have to watch her Defying Gravity video!!! She has this growl in her that is EPIC
I'll check her out!!!
You have such an understanding of what's happening in the voice....your impressions of each singer are spot on. So cool.
Finally... Thank you so much... Now I don't need to find their names and search who is who❤️❤️
Yea that took a while to do hahah!
Hi Audrey! I absolutely love your content, and this reaction video is fantastic! I'm studying to become a speech pathologist and I really enjoyed your breakdown of the acoustics of singing defying gravity in this clip! :)
I'm learning so much from your channel. Cheers to a new subscriber!
🥂 🍻 HOORAY!!
Diana Ankudinova is a young performer who shocks us with her pleasant voice and takes us into the abyss of events!!! Diana Ankudinova is unique and inimitable, goosebumps from her voice!=)))) Diana sings as if she lives in the song! The soul freezes or opens with Diana's voice.=))))))) I am a musician who has been with music for years, and believe me, I have not heard such a tone in all these past years.
DIANA ANKUDINOVA SUPER🌷🌷🌷
DIANA ANKUDINOVA SUPER TALENTED YOUNG SINGER💥💥💥
I actually have reviewed Diana before. Here: ruclips.net/video/E-Mh0-FSAlk/видео.html

You will be interested to see another song from the show "You are Super!" - " Rechenka "("River") ruclips.net/video/35Dwo4QVLqs/видео.html . In this song, Diana demonstrated an amazing mastery of her voice. And another song by Diana - her first song in Arabic ruclips.net/video/gU1DJR6Cal0/видео.html
In relation to Julia, she has said in the past that Her Elphaba journey when on Broadway messed up her voice like mad! If you listen to her audios of her on tour compared to Broadway, she definitely did injure herself!
It's a challenging role
To answer your question about Julia Murney, she definitely had vocal cord surgery after her run on Broadway.
Thanks for the info 💕
Would love to see you react to more Julia Murney! She has such a distinctive voice, I'd love to know what's going on there/your thoughts. Maybe Nobody's On Nobody Side (rehearsal version) or Raise The Roof?
Should I react to that next??? 🤔 🤔 🤔

I don't think SJB was plugging her ear so much as just trying to keep her earbud from falling out
😂Maybe 😂
Jessica Vosk and Kerry Ellis are absolutely incredible
Not me watching an old bootleg of Jessica’s run on Broadway bc I just discovered her and I’m OBSESSED
you should react to Adam Lambert!! i feel like you would really like his style! also more melanie martinez content PLEASE 🙏🏼🙏🏼

No one either mentioned or remembered Donna Vivienne, so the show three times over the years she was one of the best I've ever seen for Wicked, just some information enjoying the channel.
I will say i adore all of them. Although some have definitely unfortunately had some issues thats affected their vocals.
I will say i love Jessica vosk and her performances. Elphaba, lute (hazbin hotel), etc. i also love every cover of this song or the musical songs ive found. My personal favourite though is definitely the medley performed by voice play. Aside from that i will add. The blonde definitely did have a lot of tension (the one who swallowed) but in my personal opinion she bounced back pretty decent
I LOVE JESSICA VOSK!!! She was my absolute favorite Elphaba EVER
Audrey I think you're okay for a holiday after this.. I got whiplash from all of these different singers and you created a cheat sheet for all !!
Hahah! Yea I have no life.
Ow I'm a little sad now.. :(
I've fallen into a Willemijn Verkaik hole today and really hoped that she would be in this video. I mean... She played Elphaba in FOUR COUNTRIES how many do you have to do before you get some recognition. (If your wondering, it was on: Broadway (USA), West End (UK), Germany and The Netherlands which is where she is from)
Same! They missed a pretty big opportunity !!!
Maybe they asked and she couldn’t do it???
Calm down. It's not that deep. This was organized by Shoshana, not a sole production. It's entirely possible that Shoshana just did not have direct contact with Willemijn.
I think what Evan said could be the reason behind why some Elphabas weren't there.
For me, the best Elphaba will always be Idina, emotionally wise (and vocally wise too in her best performances)... But honestly, they've all earned their role, and they're all the "real" Elphaba. One thing I wish though is being able to join them one day as a "real" Elphaba too!
Jessica vosk gave me the biggest chills 😍
You should react to other vocal coaches like Hannah bayles or Super Bowl shows like shakiras, Katy perry, etc.
🤔 🤔 🤔
yaaaay I LOVE this performance!!!
Kaleb Jernigan✨🥰🥰✨
Omg please do more!! (Definitely more Jessica Vosk!)
Andrew J Koehler✨🥰🥰✨
Now I have a craving to hear Sean Connery singing "Defying Gravity"....
LOL
Jessica Vosk is the best!! I had the honor of seeing her last show, and she was just amazing.
Live, laugh, Jessica Vosk.
Hello! Thank you for the video! It's been a long time since we've seen your reaction to Diana Ankudinova. We've already missed you. Diana has released a new cover of Dalida's song Helwa Ya Baladi in Arabic. I would like to hear your opinion. Thank you in advance!

I appreciate your professional critique, im a vocal coach too. I love the idea of Wicked Women united in one video, some are def better than others. But.. How on earth you've managed to snide at Rachel Tucker (arguably one of THE best and most consistent live performers Wicked has ever known, w those impossible high notes) i'll never know.
ruclips.net/video/SrYkVzJ7S04/видео.html >> example here for the BEST Defying Gravity i've ever heard, 100% total vocal control and astounding clarity!!
Also - Idina's sound and vocal expression are LEGENDARY. Lastly - Not a huge fan of Kerry Elis but she did good on this video and u made such a condescending face
I agree :)
I 100% agree I came here too makensame comment about rachel.
Your channel is my new obsession 😍🥰🤩
Did you get a chance to see Teal Wicks do these performances? She’s wonderful!
Shoshana’s voice reminds me of a silky ribbon.
A 👸🏻Queen👸🏻
The best is Willemijn Verkaik, singing in Germany, The Netherlands and on West End.
always fangirling over jessica vosk.☺
Jessica Vosk is the best ever!!!!! She’s insane!!!!!

Jessica Vosk the iconic queen
ooooh jessica vosk! she is absolutely gorgeous in every way, i adore her voice so much😫
I enjoyed all of them!!!
Lindsay Pierce performed in Glee season 3, apisodes 1 and 9 as Harmony (Gerber Baby) .You should listen to er performances (she made Rachel cry from jelausy LOL)
So, do you like any of the elphabas?
t plugging your ear thing is weird. I do it, but NOT plugging my ear. My fingertip id forward of my ear on the bone. I can feel vibration there and helps me tune. I learned it from playing French Horn and the vibrations on the bell.
Ooooh please react to spirit young performers company videos. Those kids are amazing. You can start with "She's in love" and "little miss high and mighty" 💕💕💕

Watching this video again... I am sure people have told you this but you look exactly like Stephanie J Block
There’s another comment on here saying that you’re mocking the performers and I don’t see that at all. I thought this was really informative for someone like me who knows nothing about singing! I loved how you could replicate everyone’s styles
The only reason why Mariah plugs her ear is because whistle notes are really quiet and she needs to hear it in order to stay in pitch
I have issues with swallowing due to the tension, and I do it very consciously bc I can't figure out how else to ease that tension, or not get it in the first place :/// It started mostly after I got covid and it sucks
Tension is a very common issue I've actually had a couple conversations about with the peeps from my Karaoke Club. You should check it out, since its not just me but a whole community of singers learning from each other, the opportunities to grow are endless!!!!

Ah! Rachel Tucker is honestly one of my favorites. Been a fan of hers since her days on the BBC show “I’d Do Anything” which was a show to find Nancy and Oliver for ALW’s production of Ol!ver way back when.
And Jessica Vosk and Kerry Ellis *chefs kiss* 🤌🏻

jessica vosk is the best elphaba out there. eden espinosa is my favorite, though.
Miss me with the Idina Menzel slander
Thank you, this! I was looking for someone else who felt this way.
Agreed-Idina actually sounded great here.
She didn't say she didn't sound great she just commented on her vocal technique. Chill. She's not wrong
Charlie Gross The beauty in music is that we DON'T all agree. It's often not based on facts but more based on personal preference. I won't always like the sounds that you like and vice versa, but by listening and appreciating other peoples opinions it allows us to become more aware of our own. Welcome to my channel 💜
@@SongsFromASuitcase Welcome to the internet where every criticism is a personal attack and if you don’t like what I like, you’re automatically wrong. 😂 You were just making a note about technique, which is what a vocal coach should do. You said nothing about Idina’s voice or her talent. It’s also not slander if it’s true 😉
I find your commentary fascinating as someone who was classically trained as a flautist, but is not a singer. I spent more time thinking about the mechanics of double tonguing (for example) than is healthy 😆, so it’s interesting to learn about the mechanics of singing and where there are some similarities. 🤓
Mariah actually put her finger behind her ear so she can feel her jaw open wide enough
