    In 2014 I spent 2 months in Tegucigalpa, Honduras filming a story in response to the influx of child migrants from Honduras. The goal was to learn why so many children and families were leaving Honduras. This film is meant to give the viewer a broad understanding of some problems that Honduras is facing.
    There is a great amount of beauty, joy and happiness in Honduras that is not represented as well in this film so take it all with a grain of salt.
    Filmed and Edited by Kent Kessinger 2014.
    Additional music supplied by Justine Lucas and Lee White.

    I have made many trips to Tegucigalpa Honduras. A good bit of the video is actually filmed in Comayaguela, Tegus and Comay are like Tampa St’ Pete. One side rich the other poor. I know many of the streets shown in this video. I find NO false statements in this video. The Hondurans speaking in this video are incredibly brave, what they say is true. And they risk their lives with their words. Honduras is indeed beautiful and tragic. If your part of a NGO that needs a place to help, this is the country. Every time we fly down for Easter, Samana Santa in Honduras, we meet youth groups going down to help out, they also get to experience some the country’s wonders like Pula Pansak waterfall. The flight back we always meet different youth groups returning to the USA. When you chat with them, they have been humbled and filled with joy and gratitude for the experience. They will not forget it.

    Very well done. My take-away was a very clear sense of the daily desperation that good and hard-working people live with and how it eats away at the culture and community. Honduras is one of the sweetest places in the world in so many ways . . . but the desperation and the poverty grind it all into dust.

    what is most shocking about Honduras is the homicide rate of 90.4 percent of every 100,000 persons. That means the life expectancy of males is at critical low rates of about 30-40 years old. So many funerals. I bet the Cemetery is the profitable business in this countrry

      There is no sex education. There isn’t easy access to contraceptives either. It all costs money, something most people there unfortunately do not have. If you are born poor, you will most likely die poor.

      @@jay1970 Your circumstances are not the same as theirs. You have a phone, access to the internet, and, I assume, resources. Things these people will scarcely or never have in their lifetime. It is not solely about sex education, it is about the lack of proper education, period. And, as I mentioned before, contraceptives are not widely available, distributed, or promoted as they are in developed nations. These humans are disenfranchised the moment they enter this world. Also, sexual intercourse in Latin America is an extremely taboo concept that many prude people do not want to speak about. So, the consequence of that is that adolescents and young adults have unprotected sex. This, then, leads to the risk of contracting and transmitting S.T.I. / S.T.D., unplanned pregnancies, and unsafe, clandestine abortions. Please, do some research.

    I don’t see the scenes of gang violence. We see people in the streets. We see people singing and a guy playing banjo. We have people talking about the violence and the influence of the gangs. But we don’t see suffering. We don’t see dead bodies. Where is the blood?
    I see a kid at home watching a wide screen TV. He lost legs in an accident of his own stupidity. No gang member came in and hacked off his legs.
    I hear talk about how much money they make, but we don’t hear how much it costs for rent and food. The cost of living is very very reasonable in Honduras.
    The gangs all come from the US. Our policy of taking in these Central Americans has failed.

    • @joshuaoha
      @joshuaoha 8 лет назад +1

      +Dana Benedict Our policy is not to take them in. Our policy is to treat them as sub human, or criminals at best. Though after spending a month in Tegucigalpa, I think we should take them in.

      I guess you didn’t pay attention but the lady speaking clearly said it’s hard and she doesn’t even know how they survive with basically $5 a month for food. I’m from here and I’ve witness first hand how most of the country is in poverty all mainly of because our leaders and governments have been corrupt since the very beginning

      Most of the people don't live in a place they buy or rent, they live at the borders of rivers and sometimes people will move them from those places sending them to the streets, they didn't really show how some people live in houses made out of zinc, they don't show the gangs because showing them or even looking at them can get you killed as you can see the guy when he was talking lower his voice because it can cost him his life or his family's life, the gang thing is so bad here kids think it's normal too see dead baby's in the streets everyday as he said the police don't help they're on the gangs side and so it's the government

      I don’t know whether to laugh at your comment or what....how about we go place you in the streets of any Honduran city and see how you’ll make out. Dude this is why I don’t feel intimated here in the states, I’ve lived what these people are saying and I’ve seen them through my very own eyes. No hood or city in the US compares to Honduras. People over there don’t talk, they act. Nonetheless civilians are very humble, unfortunately it’s just filled with violence and oppression from the government.
