    A lot of people making comments about what is wrong with these guns that have no basic mechanical understanding let alone working on 1911/2011’s.

      @@DracheBlue My understanding of the 1911/2011 platform is this. They have the potential to be very accurate, dependable, and the easiest to shoot well. I have six. Five single stack and the Springfield DS 4.25. Almost all needed some adjustment of some sort. The issues between these six pistols ran the gamut of every problem a pistol can have. Nosedives, failure to feed, extraction issues, failure to go into battery, pistol locking up so that slide would not move with a round partially in the chamber, you name it. Brands? 2 Colts, 3 Rock Island’s and the Prodigy. They did not all have the same issues. But they had issues.
      Today, they all run without issue and with some of the finest trigger pulls you could imagine 😂 Some just needed break in and a change to Staccato mags. Others went back for warranty work.
      I have studied the platform enough now that I don’t have to send them back and have acquired the skills to work on them myself which I find pleasurable. It took a few years and I may have ruined a couple of sears 😲
      I have been fortunate to own other pistols that required nothing out of the box and shot thousands of rounds without issue for half the price of my 1911’s.
      Those are the pistols that eventually were sold because I did not enjoy shooting them once I figured out the 1911/2011.
      So if you are going to own a 1911/2011, it’s likely you are going to have to learn to fix it yourself or pay someone else to do it who may or may not know what they are doing.
      I took the diy route and studied up.
      If it’s important to have a pistol that will shoot 1000 rd.s without issue, out of the box, then you should probably refrain from the 1911/2011 platform and miss out on some of the finest pistols ever designed.
      Just one man’s opinion.
      Good luck!

    Just got my prodigy and shot it for the first 150rds today. After the first 17drs out it began to get gummed up and not return to battery. I oiled it and wiped out the rails and had no other malfunction. I love this gun. It shoots like a dream.

    When I first got mine first did my drill of dry racking until the rails got all the paint out and it was smooth as silk. Then I got magazine issues so I send it back. That’s what I do all the time… if you don’t work as it should I WILL MAKE THE MANUFACTURER take care of it until I am happy. One thousand rounds later I can trust my life with my Prodigy. Great video.

    Here is where I think the misconception regarding break in periods lies, most of the shooting community has cut their teeth in the shooting sport using some form of polymer striker fired pistols. Theoretically these guns should operate straight out of the box without any significant issues based on the fact that they have a certain amount of slop built into them to compensate for frame flex of the polymer material. They have much shorter length frame rails, and fewer moving components to their fire group that have to learn to work in harmony. This is not true of 1911/2011 patterned pistols where the majority of the firearm is metal mated to metal and done in a way that is meant to provide very tight tolerances resulting in pinpoint precision and accuracy. Think of a break in period as the equivalent of running heat cycles on a performance engine to seat rings and such before doing full throttle pulls on a Dyno for tuning. A 1911/2011 is no different; especially, high end hand fitted ones they need a chance to wear in and find their sweet spot before they run like a scalded cat.

    My gunsmith heated up both ends of the fiber optic put a nice little bead on the front and back and it is not coming out.
    The mag well install is as follows you hook it in the front and then hit the back of the mag well with a plastic deadblow hammer two or three hits and it snaps right on.

    Great video! I love my prodigy 4.25! After a few thousand rounds with only one hiccup due to a brass burr on a casing during the first few rounds during the initial break-in, This thing has run 100% since. It's just an amazing machine. Springfield armory makes excellent 1911s so it's not a surprise that this gun is excellent. I don't really understand the 2011 snobbery against the prodigy. It's an excellent gun made by an excellent manufacturer and it just runs. I have several other 1911s from Springfield armory and they also run awesome and take a beating and keep running and running until too hot to hold.

  • @Osprey1994
    @Osprey1994 7 месяцев назад +1

    I had 10 failure to feeds in my first 150, gun was pretty dry and the slide velocity was pretty slow. Trigger was heavy out of the box, probably 6lbs-6.5lbs. I went over the gun with my coworker (he has taken the Vickers 1911 armorer course, and was the guy who helped everyone put their shit back together). We ended up at around 5lbs for the trigger and the gun running perfectly (dumped another 200rds through it). Swapped to the EGW guide rod and the ISMI flatwire spring (14lbs), I then tweaked the sear spring again and dropped another pound off the trigger, adjusted the reset (trigger is disgustingly easy to run fast now), cleaned up the magazine release because it was sticking (buttery now), shot another 100rds, polished it a bit more, and now I'm just chilling at about 450rds (got the gun Wednesday). I will likely slow down my round expenditure because I need to reserve ammo for my carry piece (plus I don't have a working holster due to my Safariland being a dud).
    Gun setup: 507comp on Impact Machine irons forward plate, Goonbeam Short V1, EGW tooless guide rod with ISMI flatwire 14#spring (will swap back to 12# once disconnecter is fully broken in).
    Potential changes: EGW mainspring housing, EGW grip safety, Red dirt trigger, EGW slide stop, EGW or Atlas ambi safeties. I will likely swap to an Atlas or EGW disconnector, and then there's the debate on whether I go with a Brazos ignition kit or an EGW ignition kit.
    As of right now...the gun runs like a scalded cat.

    I had a 4.25 newest production. I pre cleaned out all the ceracoat dust etc and racked it a bunch. I put about 1k through it as well. I never experienced a single failure. However, I had some weird accuracy issues and the biggest issue was the optic plate would not stay put. I mounted it properly with correct torque multiple times and it came loose every time. Even the iron sight plate would do the same. It got me to love the platform so I sold it and bought a staccato P. The staccato is worth the price increase and vastly superior to a prodigy. If you get a good Prodigy and don't have issues, it is a fantastic pistol. I actually loved the grip module of prodigy a lot. I'm going to stick with staccato though..

    • @TheAmerican1963

      I am absolutely with you on the "no failure" experience !!!!! Not one hiccup !!!! I too had the optic plate problem and went to red loctite and not one problem since. At about 1300 rounds I went to EGW and got the sear, disco, magwell and slide lock. Just made a great pistol better. No mag problems at all. I totally understand you getting a Staccato but my wife was giving me the side-eye whenever I went to their website. So I am extremely happy with the Prodigy and it renewed a love for 1911's. I've since bought 2 Tisas commander size 1911's and they are great pistols !!!!! But that's a story for another time !!!! 🙂

      You do understand that the optic mounting issue was likely easily remedied, and you just lacked the knowledge? We have had quite a few people come through the shop with similar issues, and we clean their shit up and if they want we red loctite the plate on (not difficult to get it off if they want to switch optics). I used blue loctite on mine, but I followed the proper steps to make sure it was clean and the plate is staying put.
      As for the Stacc and the value of the gun. I've shot Atlas, Nighthawk, MPA, Stacc...the math doesn't pan out. The Staccato is not 1000 USD better...the value I see in the Stacc is the fact it's a lightweight gun and more suited tl carry, and if that's what you want to do, then sure you can grab one, OR jump on the waitlist for a BUL SAS ii. Now of course, I state this with the assumption that the buyer has some degree of mechanical competence, and they can massage their Prodigy if necessary. If you can't do that, then buy a Stacc, BUL, or SA Platy and call it good. Honestly, I am really glad I gave this gun a chance.

    • @bobvagene
      @bobvagene 7 месяцев назад

      @@Osprey1994 prodigy is a cool gun. Insulting my intelligence right off the bat is a bold stance. I properly lubed the mounting screws and threaded holes. Torqued them to 4 in/lbs and it kept coming loose. I tried Elmer's glue as well and no dice. I guess I just decided to settle for a crappy staccato instead. Sure, I didn't get the pleasure of massaging it or cleaning off ceracoat dust. I didn't need to change out every single part or hope it functioned. For a simple minded man like me, the staccato just makes sense. I don't need to know how to do anything because it works right out of the box.

    The main reason for the malfunction was from the disconnector. The slide was hanging up on the disconnector because the spring weight is too light. Put a 10 or 12 pound spring in it and it will be flawless till it gets really dirty. Stay safe and God Bless.

      The original 4.25” recoil spring rate is 12#.
      A 5” should run an 8lb spring but depends on slide mass which is why the latest 5” prodigy has a lighter slide.

      You are right about the disconnector issue. I noticed that compared to my Springfield Mil Spec 1911 the disconnector is very stiff. You can adjust the spring tension but instead I made a "Marvel Cut" on the disconnector slide rail. It's an old armorers trick but it gives the disconnector a ramp to fully depress instead of banging on the breach. The breach face is very sharp and not beveled unlike my other Springfield. After performing this simple mod the slide has no hitches and feels like an Atlas which has the same cut.
