If you find yourself pissing your pants for heat, you'll realise you should've got that diesel heater. Go to a lorry scrapyard and pull one out of an old lorry. They've even got a timer to get it warm in the morning. Many a time I've woken late and have found myself driving to my first job without trousers on. Lorry driving can be very time sensitive!

Hi I've just discovered your videos and I'm a fan. I lived in my car full time for 3 months and it was difficult,I wish I had have known about your videos then. So many similar ways of doing things. I was living stealthily, the hardest part was working then getting clean, cooking then finding somewhere safe to park up all without letting anybody know I'm living in a car!!

    • @SherryAnnOfTheWest

uhhhh.... unless you scrupulously clean that hot water bottle after you use it, it could grow some nasty stuff in there and be pretty smelly. Plain water is much better for hot water bottles.

I bought a leisure battery, inverter, fuse box and cheap 12v electric heater and a small plastic box and created a mini heating system/ phone charger and with a simple hook up you can charge the leisure battery when the car is running. As a trucker for 29yrs and mechanic ive rebuilt loads so a bit of advice stick to around 2 to 2.2kw don't fit a 5kw Chinese heater as you'll turn it down so low it'll soot up then it'll need a decoke. To save a bit of cash look at an Ex Ambulance or small mini bus the wiring isn't hard of come give me a shout ...Diesel Dave

Another great adventure Will! loved it! I hope you don't mind me giving you a little tip, you can avoid using oil while cooking pasta, which was used by our mothers but is not necessary and you will avoid staining your bedsheets. Just stir the pasta once is in the boiling water, once every couple of minutes and it will be ok, it will not stick together (and the pasta will not be coated in oil and it will absorb more sauce and flavor). I hope the tip helps you to cook more delicious dishes in the van. Cheers from Argentina. Fede

get a 2kw, replace the fuel lines, and filter and pipe clamps and exhaust possibly, and actually follow what the installation instruction say. get a stand pipe and tap out the top of the fuel tank to avoid leaks. mount the fuel pump under the car and put it in a metal backbox full of rockwool to reduce the noise. diesel heater pumps are loud and annoying. kinda gives the game away stealth camping.

Diesel heaters are nice but noisey & power hungry.
I've built 2 full conversions had caravans & a full 6b motorhome. Eberspacers ok in a lorry as they runs all day long & have a monster battery.
You will have to cut big hole floor,, have a good size leisure battery & install a spilt charger. These days I'm in a micro camper (old combo c tour) as got hacked off with height & width restrictions & wanted to be more nimble & stelthy as u r now.
Recommend a decent 4 season sleeping bag (snugpak elite 4 or similar)& another 2 season one for the really cold nights & summer then just fire up the car in the morning & go back to sleep for 1/2hr.😀.
    Keep up the good work👍

Diesel heater would be good. You will need a leisure battery and a way to charge it as well. -15 C will be a real challenge. Check out the channel Lost in Europe to see what cold weather is like on your vehicle. All the best 👍

Your previous videos spot (Dorking Rugby Club) was under at least a foot of the white stuff when you did this, it was rough down this way, everything on our works van was frozen and it took us 40 minutes just to make it safe to drive the next morning, everything was frozen including the mirrors in their tucked in position, and since Surrey didn't salt the roads because they didn't want to encourage people to go out, even the main roads made me drive like I was in Tokyo Drift, in a high top extends wheelbase transit, fun times lol

A little cooking tip... don't use oil in your pasta water because your sauce won't stick to your pasta. Use a little salt instead 👍🏻🍝. Also why don't you wear extra clothes until you have your heating sorted? If that was me I would have a hat, gloves and an extra 20 jumpers on! 😄👍🏻👍🏻 👖👕

  • @CrustyBiker
    @CrustyBiker 3 года назад

To get a bit more warmth, you should get your sleeping bag out at least an hour earlier to let it expand fully and fill with insulating air, Wilco and poundstetcher were selling covered water bottles that are about 2.5ft long perfect for sleeping bag. Ps, not good letting wiper motor break the ice, lift wipers 1st 👍

Don’t know how far you’ve gone with a diesel heater. But you do get an all in one system. It has a fuel tank etc, you just have to provide a power source. So if you did get a van you could easily transfer it. Stay safe 👍

Frozen door = possible potential fire safety hazard
Tip = maybe spraying de-icer around the door panels before sleeping will prevent ice forming

Great vid! Tip for the frozen doors: clean your rubber seals with water and cleaner, let them completely dry and once they're dry spray them generously with a silicone spray and remove the excess, they won't stick anymore! Silicone also protects the rubber so you can spray also any rubber suspension parts to prolong their life. Re the ice scraper I'd recommend Murska scraper with a brass blade as it doesn't scratch the glass.
Also, what diesel heater do you want to buy?

A word of caution if you get a diesel heater, they draw around 20amps from your battery when firing up and over 5amps when running. This could kill your car battery overnight. So you need a separate leisure battery ideally.

I remember "heavy snowfalls" in London in 2010. I stuck on a business trip in London because airports were closed and even Eurostar trains to Brussels were delayed. Return to my home country Poland took 4 days instead of 2 hours by plane. Those "heavy snowfalls" was less than 2 inches of snow, which is not noticeable for countries which are used to normal winter, but UK was totally paralysed :).
