Floating island and cities and castles are well known in the fantasy world. And this is a fantasy game... so nothing wrong with a floating mini castle.
Except they aren't in a purely magical world there is still physics and they didn't intend for you to build without support it's merely a feature they haven't finely tuned yet like in grounded.
@@CautiousPancakeThere's stability in 7 Days to Die, which can be fun when you toss TNT about. Sometimes you find a nice location, but the building already in place may not be quite what you prefer, so the quickest way to break it down is blowing up a few supporting walls and beams. I like that. On the other hand, as noted above, this is a fantasy world. Perhaps a compromise in the form of floating rocks would be an idea. You want toppling buildings, you build normally. You want magical floating castles, you make special materials, perhaps at an enchanter or something. Then again, if the engine doesn't have stability at this point, I'm not sure it would be very easy for the developers to add it in. It sort of has to be built from the ground up for it. It's a whole different beast than the way destruction has worked so far in Enshrouded, unfortunately.
@@unspeakableoaf Yeah, I can't see it (from what I've seen so far) supporting a collapse - explosions are nicely done, but given how digging and everything works, I just can see it - but I'm just some noob playing games :D Either way, no stability works for me in Enshrouded just like how stability in 7 Days works there (mostly :D)
Enshrouded does some unique things that are not very common, if at all. There is no scaling and you can equip gear above your level, and of course the lack of required stability when building. I hope they never change it, it's a welcome addition to survival games.
I hadn't thought about the lack of scaling but I know when I hit it and got my butt wiped. And I love that! I like the shroud difficulty possible being set through base upgrades, it's a nice way to also give a bit of warning that the area is not for you yet 😃

Yeah, that was the trick for this-- although you don't need to either. I cut it from the vid as it wasn't the point, but you can also do it with just one altar - when you extinguish the flame you can (in the 30 seconds) run to the other end of the sky bridge and place another down before the other once disappears. Just don't take too long :D
@@CautiousPancake No need to rush. It takes a bit before fundations dissapear :) You could use the crossings of FlameAltar if you wanna build Big. Cross the Building-Zones and build your Storage in the Middle.

Yeah, looking at the required mats for a bigger build scares me a little as a solo player 😳 but your castle in the middle sounds cool! What are you playing instead while you take a break from enshrouded?
Crenellations is the word you're looking for. Also, rather than placing the terrain blocks one at a time, you can use a rake to move the ground around to form the base of the floating island (provided, of course, you managed to get one before the rake bug bit you).
Ah yes crenellations - I had in my head the crenels are the up bits and merlons or something the down - but that could be the wrong way around (or I could just be making that up, lol). The rake tip is great - I will try that out thanks!

I did this in a game just for grins and giggles. I built a ramp over a gorge that was enshrouded, from one peak to another peak on the opposite side. I wanted to see what the game physics deemed too long of a ramp without support. Apparently support isn't a thing in the game. It was so long it took 40 seconds of flat out running to get from one end to the other. But any part of the structure will disappear once you log out (I play on Steam) unless it's inside the area designated by the flame alters. I don't mind it when it fits the game mechanics, where you need to be able to attack a support and bring down a defence, but for Enshrouded I don't think it's needed!
Keep up the great content. I think stable in some games shouldn't be a thing. I would love 7D2D not to have it but a mechanism that you need to have a way for Zs still to get you.
Without stability though you can't bring down a building, and the zombies can't undermine a tower and make you fall. So for 7 days it makes total sense, and for Enshrouded it's not based around building combat, so you're not expecting to bring down a building. So I agree it depends on the game!
@@CautiousPancake I know, wouldn't want a floating style base. They will still need a way and if not they could destabilise or destroy like they do, but I feel some of the stability is to much in 7d2d with the 7-11 block tree system. Like if you had 1 support and no access they would take that out and collapse it. But the base on that 1 support had no limits.
@@TagZ13I know what you mean - plus there's no benefit to doing a brace between a horizontal and vertical. Stability is a tricky thing to simplify so that it's "game" friendly, but at the same time giving enough realism that it's not completely weird.

Boom first comment, not a game i ply but will look into it, i like the thought of the no stability but like the challenge of a build as well so I'm going got sit on the fence of this one, Love your vids buddy, keep up the amazing work.
Thanks! and the no stability is good, but it's very different on the base build side - more a base for fun and looks than anything else. Am enjoying the difference, but back to 7 days soon!
did mine over The Pillars of Creation
Nice! Got a pic anywhere?
Gonna post in their discord when I finish. Taking longer than expected lol@@CautiousPancake
Great idea! And I HATE stability mechanics. Valheim is great but the building frustrated me to no end.
They'll patch the whole no ground to support your structures out shortly better enjoy it while you can like in grounded. Then people log on to see their entire base has fallen to the ground in a pile lol.
I'll have to keep an eye on the patch notes for sure! Did they nerf floating bases in grounded?
Since your bases are never invaded, I don't think a stability mechanic even really makes sense
Agree, it makes more sense when tied to a mechanic, but it still feels wrong somehow 😄
It is voxel based this mean there is no way for water to flow naturally at all.
Good point! It's such a well crafted world though, it feels odd without it.
Ah of course it's CautiousPancake who can come up with this, haha. Great video.
there are so many floating towers on discord and reddit. Including my own floating wizards tower so yeah he came up with this...
Thanks mate, I'm sure I'm not the first, but I had to do one after the floating 7 days vids 😂
Enshrouded is a survival game ... minus food, water, shelter, temperature factors, environment ....
That's.... An interesting point 🤔 I mean it *has* food and water and shelter concepts, but they've gone the approach that is positive impacts only. That seems more common these days but it does feel more adventure than survival.
I got an idea but I will need help because it's a big plan and I'll need your help when I plan on playing but I'll need to do you on discord. This would take weeks lol
lol sounds huuuuuuge!
Parallax mistakes are the bain of my building
Corner roof pieces in particular for me!
yeah that imo suck they need to add physics like in valheim ^^
I can't wait to see a long term roadmap and see if they plan on it!
👍👍
You should show this to GNS 😆
Haha I enjoy watching his builds too! 😂
Can't stand games that have stability mechanics, I won't play them without mods to circumvent the stability mechanic.
That's fair, is it the annoyance to get things right without it falling down that annoys you, or the lost material when it does? I'm curious!
@@CautiousPancake when there is structural integrity in games, it usually makes it so i can't build big like i want to lol :D
@@Mystical_Goddess ahhh - yes that's always an issue hey - at least without putting in lots of ugly support columns, and even then sometimes that doesn't help!
I made gigantic Castle ];-D.
Awesome! Send me a pic if you can!
