Fun fact:- a few weeks ago when Japan Played USA in Volleyball nations league in Men's volleyball. Haikyuu Fly High intro was played for the Japanese server. So funny you should say that!

Those 3 guys are the third years who were on the Date Tech team that played Karasuno in season 1. They quit the team after that loss. It is common for third years to quit the team after Summer Interhigh to focus on college entrance exam.
Only 2 types of third years stay on their respective team: (1) the ones who are good enough to continue playing volleyball in college (Ushijima and Oikawa), (2) the ones on teams that have a chance to make it to Nationals. Anyone on Shiratoriza or Aoba Johsai belongs to second category. The Karasuno third years believe that they have a slim chance of making it to Nationals, so they decided to stay on as well.
I would also add that they were being 'mean' to Futakuchi because Futakuchi was quite mouthy and cheeky towards them, so they were laughing at Futakuchi's struggle as a captain. It's all done with no ill intent, just friendly teasing :-)

The people cheering/yelling at the Date Tech players are the Date Tech 3rd years. They're like Daichi, Suga, and Asahi, but they decided not to play in the Spring Tournament, unlike Karasuno's 3rd years.
No, they (Dateko) lost to Karasuno in the inter-high right? So, the 3rd years of Date Tech didn't got the chance to stay in the team unlike Daichi, Sugawara, Asahi and Kiyoko.
@@eulizjacinto4163Jacinto Whether a team loses or wins during the Inter-High prelims isn't the deciding factor that affects the "chances" of a 3rd year's staying on or not. Technically, if a 3rd year really wanted to, he/she CAN keep going with their club activities, even though it's highly discouraged (especially if going on to college without already having procured a recommendation). That's why Futakuchi asked the 3rd years to stay on for Haru-kou right after their loss to Karasuno.

To be accurate, “Mou ikkai(もう一回)” is actually “one more time”.
“Mou ippon(もう一本)” is usually “one more [serve, receive, set or any kind of shot]”.
(Because the “i(一)” here means “one”)
If you want to say “more”, then it’s simply “motto(もっと)”.
Remember Vic, if you can’t pronounce “aoba johsai” (ow-buh joe-sigh) you can always call them “seijoh” (say-joe). Lots of people in the show call them that :)

the reason why this backstory is so important for oikawa's character is because it shows that he is more than just your basic sports antagonist, it peels back the layers of his outward persona, as the facade fades, we see a young man who is not only a brilliant foil to hinata and especially kageyama, but someone who is tortured by the so called "curse of the ordinary". Oikawa is neither a genius nor an extraordinary talent, he feels envious and jealous towards people like kageyama and ushijima who posess that talent, which causes him to develop a kind of an inferiority complex towards them, in this backstory, we can see that he was person worked hard to the point where he woudnt care if he hurt himself, just so he could keep up with these people with talent, the reason oikawa snapped at kageyama was because of the pressure of not being able to beat ushijima and the pressure of a young kageyama who was sure to surpass him creeping up to him, but iwaizumi stops him in time and tells him the exact words he needs to hear, that he's trying too hard to be alone in all of this, this changes things for oikawa, it turns his desperation into maturity and resolution and works hard to become the ideal setter, a dream to play with, but we shoudnt forget that the oikawa who is now in his 3rd year of highschool still has that inferiority complex, he is still trying hard to beat ushijima and and keep kageyama at bay who he knows will surpass him someday. i tried my best to explain hs backstory without spoiling anything, this dynamic of his character is what makes him my fav antagonist of the series, hope this helps!. I love analyzing oikawa’s character bc he’s so realistic and relatable for me, plus his dynamics with other players and being the main antagonist for a big portion of the series really makes me dig deep into his psychology :D

28:57 There isn't a lot of romance in Haikyuu as of right now. There is some in later seasons (mainly season 4), but it's not a big focal point.
Anime as a whole however has a lot of different genres, a popular one being romance. Haikyuu is a sports anime, so there isn't a lot of romance.
As for the shipping part: Yeah, there are a lot of various ships in the fandom since 95% of them aren't canon, but Haikyuu has a lot of great character dynamics that also leads to ships. (The fandom has been blessed with four(4) childhood best friend duos, so we go ham with that kind of stuff)

Since there wasn't a reaction to the line, im gonna assume you didn't quite catch it since you stan kageyama and hinata supporting each other. But when kageyama was having his "freak-out time" at the end of the episode and kageyama said that oikawa could make any team better and shoyo replied with, "any team except karasuno" what he meant was that kageyama is the perfect setter for their team and hinata would take kageyama over oikawa.
And the beauty of it is that it's THE thing Kageyama needed to hear at the moment
Also, just want to appreciate Kageyama's reflection, that his reason he feels intimidated by Oikawa is not that he can't shine as him, but rather in his role of serving the spikers. He's sad that he can't deliver for the others, rather than for himself, and i think that's really a selfless moment on his side

And about Romance and Anime. There is of course romance and there are also Animes that are cantered around romance. However, and this is my own observation, unlike western media, in which the romance plot is more obligatory, there are many many Animes in which romance is not involved.
Me myself prefer the latter, because it prevents the romantic relationships from being forced. If there is a relationship in the story, it‘s because the characters genuinely have chemistry. In Haikyuu‘s case, we have this huge cast of characters who all have these dynamic relationships, which makes shipping them so easy and fun. There are so many good fanfics out there.
If you‘re interested about the shipping situation in the fandom. The ship Oikawa x Iwaizumi (Iwaoi) has by far the most fanfics out of all the ships. Kageyama and Hinata (Kagehina) is def very high on the list, but also Bokuto and Akaashi (Fukurodani‘s setter).

Also on the topic of shipping... there is actually one romantic relationship that happens in Haikyuu (or at least the manga, they haven't gotten there in the anime yet) but it's SUPER background so it's more like "oh they got together, cool" than actually watching it unfold. But also even in anime with more specific romantic relationships, basically everyone gets shipped with everyone else by fans. There are popular fan-ships def but yeah basically if you just look at two characters and go "they have good chemistry" it's kinda fun. This also happens in non-anime fandoms as well though. Basically fans in general love grouping characters into relationships! 😁

To help you remember which name is Karasuno on the point board, this could help you: 烏野 the first character “烏” has four lines at the bottom to help you remember just think of them like 2 crows little feet. Since Karasuno are crows. (Posting here again so you can see it ☺️)

I love what Hinata is saying to Kageyama at the end. Agreeing with him that maybe Oikawa is the best setter for other teams but also telling him, that he is the best setter that Karasuno could have since he draws out the best of them.
Those small details in the storyline are lovely and make the relationship between Hinata and Kageyama even more precious☺️

As someone who struggles with anxiety and depression... I think its very valuable to see someone so positive and upbeat struggle with it. And I do mean, seeing it, versus only ever hearing her talk about it in the past tense. Its healthy to recognize somebody who is successful and joyful, suffer through those familiar emotions. It says a lot about what you can also accomplish, just like she has. Rather than allowing those limited and fixed feelings to supress you. So I was really grateful to see her post even in that state. It made me feel less isolated, more seen in a way.
In Haikyu there are 2 opportunities every year to go to nationals, first is Summer National Championship and 2nd is Spring National Championships, so the 3rd year seniors usually don't attend the Spring as most of them prepare for exams and future scholarships for College but Karasuno seniors are so hooked or in love with volleyball that they did not want to lose one more chance to play & win with their team unlike many other School seniors like Date tech ...

If you noticed ar 19:44 and 20:12 of the video, Koganegawa’s hands were slightly further apart when blocking compared to Aone and Futakuchi, which is why Iwaizumi manages to hit the ball through his block. Another thing that you might have missed is that Koganegawa’s jersey number is 7, which was Aone’s jersey number in season 1, which is why his jersey number is no. 1 in season 2

Personally my ship for OG little cutie is yamaguchi since they both have anxiety issues but they are actually able to eliminate each others anxieties, also we know yamaguchi finds yachi cute and they both are kind of in the shadow of their prettier/more skilled friend most of the time (for yachi she is in kiyoko's shadow and yams is in tsukki's shadow)

11:50 YES SAKUNAMI IS LITERALLY SO CUTE!!! He’s actually is very short at 5’5 and is absolutely small compared to the rest of the Dateko starters especially with how Dateko is known as the team of “tall and strong blockers.” I really do truly think Sakunami is essential to how Dateko operates though, even though it’s never exactly directly stated.
To address 14:32, they animated that receiving movement actually fine enough to deliver the message that the serve has been received. You can also see the difference when they receive a harder serve as they have more movement and their body is shown to absorb the impact. Again, that's enough to show that a receive has been made and the serve was strong. Animating is hard. The more movements they have to draw again and again, the harder it is and longer it will take to animate a single scene. So yeah as long as they can show the intended message, then that's enough.
Victoria! Im just saying this but... I think you will LOVE "Yuri on Ice"... is anime, sports (ice skating), romance... and it is just 12 eps... it is ADORABLE!
One of the core strength of Haikyuu is the portrayal of the sport. Followed closely by its characters. So even if Karasuno isn’t on the scene, the show is still enjoyable cos they do volleyball so well, with characters that are as enjoyable as our main cast. This is episode is a shining example of it. The first time I watched, I totally forgot Karasuno isn’t playing cos I was so engrossed in this game

Those three from the stands are the third years from Date Tech. They retired from the team after they lost to Karasuno, to focus on their post-high school paths. Daichi, Suga, and Asahi could have done the same but they decided to stay on the team, which means they have to juggle volleyball with their post-high school stuff.
Me and my sister watch anime when she's depressed. Our go to is School Rumble. I don't really have any wise words for you about feeling better, other than it's ok to be sad or meh or blah sometimes. The emotional neutrals and lows provide us with perspective and make those emotional highs that much sweeter. I hope you have a fantastic rest of the week!
This made me emotional, because the first time I watched Haikyuu it was because I was quarantined with covid and in a horrible depression, and I watched this show in a dark place and it literally changed my life. Still, if I ever feel down I can think about Haikyuu, or think about a specific moment or a specific character or quote from Haikyuu that was super impactful to me and I’ll feel better. I know it’s just a dumb anime…. But the messages it puts out are SO inspiring and I wish everyone had the chance to be exposed to the ideas this show puts forth.

One thing I love about Haikyuu is how there’s always something new to discover when you watch it. Like this time I noticed the callback to Daichi’s comment on the multiplicative power of Shoyo and Kageyama together (:
FIY Victoria, the loss to Aoba Johsai wasn't last year's tournament. It was at the Summer Interhigh prelims, which happened in June. Right now, they're playing in the Spring High prelims, which started in August (when they played against that team with that 6'7" tall guy) for the qualifying rounds, and currently in October for the final rounds. So it's only been 4 months since they lost that game.

If you looked carefully during the final attack where iwa was against the triple block, you will notice that koganegawa's form were off (his arms were wide apart during blocking - sort of a V shape). A small detail to show that he is new and the reason iwa was able to spike through
In Shonen, which is the genre that Haikyuu is, there isn’t romance as story themes, but characters will tend to get paired up in the epilogue of a story.
Aone was thinking of shoyo when he said “ opponents that are hard to beat aren’t always big and strong” though so you both had the same thought. That’s why they cross paths at that exact moment
If you want focus on serve receives, you’ll have to wait until season 3 👀

I definitely prefer one episode a week instead of 2 episodes then skipping a week.
Also, episode 19 has the rare after credit scene. It's not all that important, but when it aired weekly, it built the hype for the upcoming match.
Those three date tech students you keep seeing are third year senior from their volleyball team that didn't stick around unlike karasuno's third years, if you look back at the date tech matches with karasuno you'll see them.

1. Have a health break if you need it. I absolutely love this.
2. Sort of, people have shown little bits from the manga that say 'it's offical' that the fandom universe has taken all the way.
3. It's really easy to ship couples in the Haikyuu world because they all sort of come together at unique times and you can have fun with.
Haikyuu is fun in the way that people can blend and match and love them all. It's also a large back of tricks you can pull from.
Honestly, I enjoy lowkey Vic because it feels like she is fully embracing the Haikyuu experience where we just lay in bed and binge the show.

Much respect and love for the honesty and transparency of your mental state. Everyone can relate to that feeling of not feeling 100 and being honest with it is a good 🙏 ALSO rewatching haikyuu got me through a lot of the first half, if not more of quarantine. Gave me to push I needed at times.

So essentially: the fandom for Haikyuu absolutely SHIPS THE HECK out of all theses characters together. There are some pretty crazy ships but a majority of them are actually reasonable. Some are extremely noticeable right off the bat when it comes to the introduction of certain character’s backstories within the actual show or just how much one character is paired up with another character, whether it’s in the show or not in the show. Duos like Kags and Shoyo are shipped, Asahi and Nishinoya, as well as Daichi and Suga. Other teams like Nekoma (Kenma and Kuroo) and Fukurodoni (Bokuto and Akaashi) have a pretty reasonable amount of ships too. Same goes for Aoba Johsai (Oikawa and Iwaizumi). [Not sure if you caught the trend but they’re mostly all M/M (Male/Male) shipped pairs].
I personally have only shipped a couple people in the show but not to the point where I judge or shame other people for shipping two characters that I think might not go well together.
It’s honestly a whole community within the main Haikyuu Community but I would still be wary and cautious because not all people in the Haikyuu community are open to certain, “normal”, ships.

I don’t want to make it seem like I’ve painted a bad image on the Haikyuu Community because the community itself is honestly really great to be a part of, I just don’t have enough room to mention all the things about the Haikyuu Community to balance out the good and the bad, the nasty beautiful and the nasty, etc.
Anyways, if there’s anything I left out, y’all are more than welcome to comment on this comment about what I might have left out.

To answer the romance question, kind of.
There’s base level crushes and obligatory tension between a few characters (tanaka and Noya loving Kiyoko, Yui having a crush on Daichi, and even more in future seasons), but the anime largely ignores romantic development in relation to the main plot line. It *does* however make every character have extremely meaningful friendships and defined personalities to the point where shipping them is REALLY easy, especially when they interact extensively in the show.
There are anime out there that are literally romance, like that’s the entire point of them, but Haikyuu is a sports shonen, so it’s not like that. The teenage girls (& gays) of the fandom have definitely had their fun shipping characters tho, like what you did this episode but WAY more intense.

I can't talk for others but at least the reason why I watch your reactions is to see your reactions, viewpoints and opinions on the anime among other topics. You're human like everyone so I don't really expect you to be happy and cheery every single day tbh, I just expect you to be yourself. As for the reaction series I think it should be an enjoyable experience for everyone so if you feel uncomfortable for X reason or if one week you don't feel like recording it's totally fine to take a break if you need it. Haikyuu honestly saved my life.
Lying in the hospital bed trying to fight off a critical COVID illness there were would be times that I just wanted to give up.
Yet I was running Haikyuu episodes in my head envisioning how I would rise again.
I was always humming Fly whenever I felt I needed that extra push to get over what I was feeling.
So I know what you are saying Victoria when you feel that Haikyuu is giving you that shot of endorphins needed to get going.

-Haikyu is a Shonen Manga, which targets young men mainly, so romances are not super common and when they happen they're pretty barebones like Main character gets with the main girl, etc. So yeah Haikyu doesn't really do much romance.
-Honestly I really didn't mind this video, I think it's nice to be able to see that you're a regular person with these types of moods, it was a chiller vibe and that's alright you still put forth effort to react and be lively with your reactions.
Not all opponents who are hard to beat are big and strong, some of them sing and frolic on their way to the bathroom
It definitely helps the shipping when there arent established relationships (not that those stop anyone from saying " so and so would be much better with her!"). Haikyuu doesn't have relationships like that, tho they hint at crushes. I think the manga has the time jump to their adult hood to wrap it up at the end and one couple is married but i wont say who lol
