    If you rewatch the series, you'll see that Ennoshita is always the one in the background keeping people in check. It's done so subtly that you probably won't even notice it, but it's a really nice detail for this moment.

    Don't feel bad about Ennoshita's bathroom scene. He wasn't beating himself up for his play, he was angry at himself for feeling relieved to be back on the bench. He was just trying to overcome his fear of failure, and push himself into a growth mindset.

      Is it just me, or do the Netflix subtitles make it a bit more unclear/confusing? I usually watch via Hulu and when I was reading the subtitles in this reaction, I went, “Wait, have I been interpreting it wrong?” since the Hulu translation implies the interpretation that you stated, and the Netflix subtitles seem to imply (to me, at least) that Ennoshita’s relieved that they won and he doesn’t feel like he deserves to feel that way.

Accountants, programmers, janitors, nurses, just important people who keep society running quietly without fanfare. It's really the perfect name for Ennoshita

    There are 5 2nd years in Karasuno.
    #4: Yuu Nishinoya
    #5: Ryunosuke Tanaka
    #6: Chikara Ennoshita (the guy you've seen before but you don't know...the Daichi look-alike)
    #7: Hisashi Kinoshita (the guy you don't recall seeing before at all)
    #8: Narita (the Tanaka look alike).
    They're all decent players. The last 3 were introduced in season 1, in the very first overnight volleyball camp Karasuno participated in. The 3 of them couldn't take the brunt of the training the previous year when Grandpa Ukai was coaching them, so ran away (along with 2 others who left the club for good, later.). They came back after a week only to find that Grandpa Ukai had left again. They've been bench players since the current first years joined. You'll see more of them in the upcoming seasons :)

    Ennoshita's emotions are a tad bit complicated. His story is a continuing struggle against his "cowardly" self that lacks drive and motivation to work hard and give volleyball everything he has. At the end of the match, instead of feeling joy for winning or pride for having done well, he feels relief for not having to be in that situation anymore, and he recognizes that and hates that he feels that way.

    In the last episode They said It was the battle of captains, Since they've already showed how great of a captain daichi was and how important he is to the team, They are now showing the future captain for karasuno. If you can see from the flashback the 2nd years have a conversation about who will be the next captain and they said Ennoshita Chikara would be a good captain, He does have the personality of a captain and he also knows the members very well cause sometimes he can read thier expressions and he knows how to lead. This episode is now showing how would ennoshita lead and what will happen to karasuno without their foundation which is daichi. I absolutely like this episode even though daichi got injured, since they showed a different character(ennoshita). I would say Ennoshita's going to be a good captain
    Dachi also was able to play since he was fine from the injury but he decided to not just come back and sub out ennoshita but instead just watch them, Cause like he said he saw how the team plays and didn't wanna ruin their rhythm even though he's aching to play. I just liked that he trusted and looks proud for the team even though he wasn't there and even though they've been through a rough situations. And that situation is that ennoshita wasn't able to recieve a lot of the spikes, he wasn't able to recieve every ball, He was struggling. I'm proud of ennoshita for not giving up and just continued recieving and this time he didn't run away anymore(cause that's what happened on the flashback)... I love the growth of the characters in haikyuu but I like Ennoshita's growth/backstory more than the other ones... and this episode is also my favorite episode... This gave me excitement and goosebumps that I've never felt before...
    These are just my thoughts and some brief explanation that I wanted to share...

  • @pathmor
    @pathmor 3 года назад +5

    I love the parallel that's drawn between Yamaguchi and Asahi in episode 17. Back in episode 10 or 11 of season two in the last practice match against Fukurodani, Asahi chickens out and makes a serve that got picked up. He apologizes for this and Ukai says that he's well off as long as he acknowledges it, and that no one's going to blame him for making a serve meant to turn the game around. In the shot where he makes the remark making serves to turn the game around, Asahi and Yanaguchi are in the frame.
    When Ukai gets mad at Yamaguchi, he stops when Ennoshita steps in and helps him recognize that Yamaguchi is more aware than anyone of how his move affected the game, probably because of that principle Ukai has that recognition is the first step to improvement. This reflects his attitude toward Asahi and both of their needs to improve upon their confidence in their abilities.
    I love how the cinematography in the series is so cleverly used. It's so wonderful.

    27:56 "how does Oikawa know everything" LOL GIRL SAME the first time I watched Haikyuu, it really took me by surprise how smart he was, cause his demeanor when he was introduced to us was so petty and immature. Anyway, he is super observant and just generally good at figuring out team dynamics I think. It is what makes him so good with his own team too

  • @Sunny-ll3nc
    @Sunny-ll3nc 3 года назад +9

    27:42 Oikawa is the type of player who observes a lot the other teams that's why he "knows" everything, he just pay attention... He's such an underrated character and I still don't get why people hate him when everything he say it's true...

    Daichi with the backdrop of the 'Simplicity and Fortitude' banner, showing his role as the stable foundation of the team, to these epsiodes with Ennoshita's with Wukunan's banner 'Show your tenacity', shows how the upcoming captain is not there yet, but he is vicious and equally mentally capable to one day get there.
    The last scene of the three side characters, Ennoshita, Yumaguchi, then leading into Takeru finally saying the thing they were all thinking, 'let me do it once again', are all expressions of their shared fear that they'd never get to play on the court again, but determination and wish to make sure they'd do so once more.
    Haikyuu is just poetry in motion.

    MVP goes to Ennoshita, but strong runner-up goes to Coach Ukai for sweeping the bench in front of Hinata's epic slow-mo diving dig on the sideline (and, unfortunately, dumping Takeda-san ass-over-teakettle). Always amazing details like this in the background that didn't NEED to be done, but provide real-life layers to this show.

    And Yamaguchi also played middle but since they have Tsuki and Narita, he can't get a chance to play middle

    often times fiction potrays that a conflict can be instantly solved but that doesnt happen in real life. problems especially dealing w internal battles, cant be fully overcome. it would take a lot of time, support from others and a lot more to be able to control your "inner demons". and haikyu understands and shows that so well.
    from ennoshita who played well and managed to take the role of a leader, still felt so insecure and blamed his gutless self for his shortcomings. to yamaguchi who we thought would redeem himself after he failed from last time, let his anxiety took him over again.
    this is why i love this show because furudate(the author) made sure every character is close to reality that they all feel _human_ . even for hinata who seems to be very "fiction" because hes always bright is also very flawed as a character. hes greedy (as shown in previous eps), so stubborn, and he acts before he thinks (all this side of hinata and his struggles will be shown more in the future).
    furudate rly displayed how characterization and storytelling should be done. just absolutely brilliant.

    Even if it doesn't initially seem like that you have to admit that Ennoshita is a very interesting character when you get to know him better.
    And this applies not only to him. The personality of each of the characters is revealed here. Because each person has their own story. And this anime focuses not only on the main characters but also shows us events from the life of unremarkable at first glance characters. It shows that they are also important and meaningful. And I think it's great

    Episode 17 has been my favorite in the season since the first time I watched it and regularly pushes to be my favorite in the series. The use of both Ennoshita and Yamaguchi and focusing on characters with low self confidence makes those of us with those problems feel so seen. Watching the two of them struggle with their inner demons and self doubt is so painful to watch but it also just goes to show that Furudate-sensei wanted the team to be well balanced and be representative of everyone you see on a high school team.

    his name in the west would be Chikara Ennoshita (first name last name). In Japan people almost never use someone's first name unless they're quite close, sometimes they'll even use that in a disarming way where someone probably shouldn't be using the first name. Like Oikawa calls Kageyama Tobio, which is his first name, but it's done in a kind of sarcastic way. Generally speaking it's rude for anyone aside from family members and friends to use your first name. So it would be sorta like most people just call you Garrick, and close friends and family call you Victoria. People calling him Ennoshita is like calling you Garrick. Only a few people like Nishinoya call him Chikara, which again is like calling you Victoria, but this implies Nishinoya is fairly close with Ennoshita.
