Why would the modern players be allowed to play 3 lands per turn on their side but the custom cards would have to play less lands? 😅 that would just mean that you see wayyy less custom cards because the deck would be too nerfed :P
@@CardmarketMagic You got a point there. Normally you would have Archenemy cards to break the massive disadvantage of playing 1v3, if you get 3 lands, at least you stay even on cards and play what you draw until the end of the game. It just makes having an actual mana cost on those cards a lot less impactful overall. I do like the fact that you can play multiple cards a turn eventually, as did I like Ragavan stealing some of them, so we got to see more. That little monkey did it again.

If the video does well, we might use the pile again for another challenge :) but if you want to see more custom cards, there are many websites online with entire repositories of custom cards made by the community
Designing cards yourself is one of the best things to do with Magic for sure. Personally I love to design cards to pit against eachother, making use of some of my favorire magic design tricks like mirrored designs in opposite colors, (a 2 card cycle if you will) or having cards that have multiple modes that you can choose from, or cards that give your opponent choices but give value to you. (like Fact or Fiction) So far I've made a few custom sets and a custom duel deck series, which you can play against eachother, making use of only custom cards.
I'm part of the CM discord, and I have all five renders that I sent. If you'd like, I can send the ones I sent that are part of various custom sets that I've personally made.
Unfortunately, custom cards are a small portion of the community, so we will only do custom card videos along with real cards, that the majority of the viewers care about. In the end, we are a channel about Magic: The Gathering :) and that game has so many wonderful cards, it would be a shame not to focus on those

The Questing Beast is like if someone made an Un card but didn't properly playtest it. So, I'm going to skip over the common keywords like Vigilance, Haste, Cascade, Hexproof, etc. but for those less familiar with all these less regularly used keywords... here's what it can do: Prevents up to 7 damage dealt to it from a single source (Absorb) Creates 9 1/1 BW Spirit creature tokens with flying when it dies (Afterlife) As it enters the battlefield, reveal any number of creatures in your hand, for each different type reveal, it gets 5 +1/+1 counters (Amplify) Whenever it attacks, defending player sacrifices 8 permanents (Annihilator) Whenever it attacks, each other attacking creature you control gets +1/+0 until end of turn (Battle Cry) Whenever it blocks, it gets +25/+25 until end of turn (Bushido) As it enters the battlefield, you may sacrifice any number of other creatures you control. This creature gains 5 +1/+1 counters for each creature sacrificed (Devour) If a creature with greater power or toughness enters the battlefield under your control, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature (Evolve) Whenever a creature you control attacks alone, it gets +1/+1 until end of turn for each Exalted permanent you control This creature cannot be blocked except by Black or Artifact creatures (Fear) If this creature is blocked, the blocking creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn unless it also has Flanking Whenever this creature attacks and isn't blocked, it gets +4/+0 until end of turn (Frenzy) This creature cannot be blocked except by creatures with Horsemanship Whenever this creature attacks, you may have target creature an opponent controls untap and block it if able (Provoke) If this creature is blocked, it gets +7/+7 for every creature blocking it beyond the first (Rampage) Whenever this creature deals damage, if it not Renowned, put 9 +1/+1 counters on it and it becomes Renowned This creature enters the battlefield with your choice of Haste or a +1/+1 counter on it (Riot) This creature cannot block or be blocked except by creatures with Shadow Whenever this creature dies, you may return a Spirit card with mana value 6 or less from your graveyard to your hand (Soulshift) This creature enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it for each color of mana spent to cast it (Sunburst) So many contradictory abilities. It's ridiculous.
Y'know honestly these custom haven't really been that impressive. Not nearly as broken as I thought The Questing Beast: "Allow me to introduce myself."
That Skeleton thing is actually a pretty cool card and not so super broken that it couldn't be a real card. I like the concept of the Legacy being a buff to future creatures after it dies.
Great video! Most of the cards have really cool designs. I wouldn't mind seeing some of them in commander sets. And I am glad to see Felicia in more videos. I really liked her in the pauper deck series, and she is great here.
I'D BEEN WANTING SOMETHING LIKE THIS!! One idea that's been going through my head is "hmmm, they have a lot of custom card videos, it'd be nice if they made decks with some of them and tried to play with them" and this isn't quite that but it's still cool to see! Honestly, I'd love to see a video where two players go through the old "rating your magic card" videos and picking cards that have a combined score of 12 or more (and no judge gives an individual score of 5 or lower) to add to a deck and to try and build a deck around a few of the cards submitted!
The format was great. But 3 free lands per turn were definietly too much. Any deck would stomp the opposition if it has access to 3 free lands that don't even consume the land drop every turn. How about up to 2, reduced to 1 if you play a land from hand? I feel that would be more balanced, and more exciting to watch.
The lands weren't broken at all, remember his opponents also got effectively 3 lands per turn and also drew 3x the cards. Carl was getting crushed up until he played the abomination that is the questing beast.
Really disappointed by the lack of oversight on these cards, specifically with artist credit. Several of the custom cards straight up missing it, while others have totally incorrect credit - Disciple of Flame credits Amino, (the website) while the art is actually by Bogdan Marica, for example. While checking if every one of the cards printed had correct credit is definitely infeasible, feels like ones lacking artist credit should've been excluded/since only a small subset were shown in the video, artist credit for those could've been double-checked before the video went out.
I made sure to put proper artist credit on mine(to the best of my ability)! It took me like, 30 minutes of searching to find (what I am 90% sure is) a primary source for Sygil’s art lol.
@@Cheerwine091 I appreciate the effort! Unfortunately, it looks like, according to a comment on the original deviantart post, everetreme reposted the art - It was actually originally by Toby Lewin. Doesn't look like I can include links in my comment, but if you look up the original deviantart post you'll find a link to the original art in the comments.
@@kayiu102 I can’t believe I didn’t look at the comments. 😔 If I ever remake the card I’ll fix that. I’ll also go leave a comment under my comment talking about making it in that the artist credit is wrong.
Congratulation on having your busted design get featured. I laughed so hard for so long that I was truly close to throwing up my lunch. Please never design another magic card.
The Questing Beast would be such a nightmare if it didn't have Shadow to make all the combat abilities not matter. Having to remember and track things like flanking, rampage, bushido, etc. would be insane!
17:30 : Thanks carl for going easy on your opponents. The questing Beast had Soulshift which means this : Soulshift is a triggered ability. “Soulshift N” means “When this permanent is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, you may return target Spirit card with mana value N or less from your graveyard to your hand And as it's also a changeling, it's a spirit. So it could target itself with this ability and just come back to your hand. You saw that, of course but decided to be nice which is commendable.
This was really fun, would love to see a rematch, maybe do some variations like allowing the other players to draw a custom card, or start with some lands to give them an advantage.
This feels like the Yu-Gi-Oh! Bonds Beyond Time battle with Paradox. Carl has cards from the future and our 3 protagonists try to save the card game we all know and love.
I absolutely LOVE that you kept "the questing beast" in lol i don't even care that it broke the game XD that laugh was absolutely worth it. I have not laughed so hard at a custom magic card in a very long time XD
I would really like to see this again, using the same pool of cards, except those which have already seen meaningful play. Obviously, the team of 3 should build decks that synergise with each other to tackle the community! Archenemy has always been a format I enjoyed.
Well of what we got to see a few of them were cool designs. Also, that Legacy keyword doesn't say "you control" so technically anyone who had a skeleton or rogue would get the buff if it's in your GY. Fun vid though
The Questing beast also is a changeling so it gets +1/+1 from the rogue/skeleton anthem ;-) And could have had extra counters as it has amplify 5 and you just showed every creature in your hand...
How about you play a shared library game with these custom cards? It would be very interesting to see more of these cards, and everyone getting those 3-land per turn "broken lands" would make it so everyone can play something and we'd see much more of these. It would feel similar to PleasantKenobi's cube!
This was pretty fun. Though with the amount of people trying to "fix" lotus, those three lands a turn might have better been treasures. Or just 2 duals of Carls choice. I will choose not to comment on *The Questing Beast* I love custom cards, even though often people go for a pretty over the top power level. Hopefully, this does well enough for you guys to show off more of that huge stack. While I think I'd love to see something sealed or draft-like, I understand that a) it's too much time and effort-wise and b) these cards weren't curated or designed to be any kind of limited environment together. But what about Partybox rules? Everyone draws from the big stack and for a landdrop you can put any card from your hand into play face-down as a rainbow land. Or something I've read about, I think the name was Big Stacks. That would be two communal libraries - one only contains spells, the other only lands (and potentially manarocks and ramp spells) and for each card you draw you choose a pile. Also I need to add my voice: If she's down, please have Felicia on as regularily as possible, the videos with her are always a blast.

@@ralfparakenings2634 Yeah, as soon as it hit the battlefield the tension was lost. Really no reason to watch past that point other than to see if any interesting custom cards are shown before the team dies.
I'd like to see a symmetric version of this (vs a 3v1), so that goofy cards like that had just as much chance to swing wildly for everyone there.
@@Caio22011 the mana didn't help, but even with the 3 free lands per turn it was a pretty close game until The Questing Beast hit the field
I love you felicia!
Also, you guys at cardmarket made some fun content, and seem to have a great time, always look forward to checking out what random stuff you guys are up too.
"The emotion you are feeling..is felt" truly some of the words of all time
I know everyone says it but it is worth repeating: Felecia has amazing energy with the crew and you should make her a regular!
I think the 3 free lands per turn was WAY too much of a head start. But love the crazy cards, maybe do a free for all of them next time!
but was it? Without the Questing beast he probably would have lost the game... as it was seriously one of if not the most broken thing in the deck probably.
Simply letting all players play from the community deck would also be a fun thing, broken cards vs broken cards feels a little more fair anyways :)
Maybe have a choice. 3 enter tapped or 2 enter untapped.
I feel like the idea would be even cooler if you removed the winning card until the 3 decks can actually beat the amalgamation.
Such a fun idea. To spread it up maybe each modern player gets one ban round, meaning three in total. Also gives more of the deck time to shine?
I think the team voting on the card that most needs to go post each game would be the way to go. Then highlight why they got rid of that one.
They printed a whole forests worth of cards just to barely use them lol
If the video does well we can use the pile for future videos :)
After hearing "Bushido 25", I just lost it and couldn't stop giggling for the rest of the video, excellent design
It's always a good day when we get more Felicia on the channel
Honestly I'd love to see a game of Wizard's Tower/Cube with this
Or, y'know, Judge tower cos that would be funny
Oh yes absolutely!
Omg. Listen to this person!
Cube with this would be amazing
This was really fun. I hope we get to see these cards again somehow (maybe as a 4-person format where all the decks are fan-made cards?)
Moment it had soul shift, i knew it was going to be overpowered. Just like every card with soulshift
lmao
Word. Stuff like Hexproof Indestructible as well as Shadow Double Strike Haste Infect are rather underpowered. But the soulshift part, man, what did they smoke when creating the card??
@@siradzki5905 opent activates shadowspeir, casts [exactly] wrath of God and extends the hand.
I slide taurean mauler into my hand
Please do more with these! It would be really neat if you all played them against each other. Maybe with a shared library?
It would be awesome to see a document with all of the custom cards that were selected for the video! That is if you aren't planning to use them again lol
If the video does well, we might use the pile again for another challenge :) but if you want to see more custom cards, there are many websites online with entire repositories of custom cards made by the community
@@CardmarketMagic I am so desperate to see if the card I submitted was in that deck somewhere.
I love designing and playing cards with my friends in commander
Its the best way to play
But designing responsibly is important
Yes. I love doing that too, except that I do it for a 60 card format where all players only use custom cards and basic lands. It is fun!
(like Fact or Fiction)
So far I've made a few custom sets and a custom duel deck series, which you can play against eachother, making use of only custom cards.
Im just getting "we play AI-generated cards" flashbacks. Please bring these videos back!!!
The AI cards are so fucking funny 😂
Those videos were how I found cardmarket
They were peak
Yes, please do @CardmarketMagic
@@dracoplaygames Same! The first cardmarket video I saw was an AI cards one. BRING THEM BACK!!!!
same. agree. hope they bring those back someday. ai-generated cards are still very fun to play with and watch.
Felicia catching the interaction with fetches and the crazy enchantment was major! Well done :)
I would love to see Judge tower with this.
that's actually a great idea
We need MORE of this! Like a whole Best Deck series using these cards or something.
is it possible to have all the fanmade cards? would be really fun to print them and use them for cube draft
Yes please! This would be wonderful to see all the cool designs :D
I don’t know whether I can get you all of them, but I know a bunch of the creators-the custom magic dis cord has a lot of them.
In the end, we are a channel about Magic: The Gathering :) and that game has so many wonderful cards, it would be a shame not to focus on those
Loved it guys! I really enjoyed the dynamic in this game and the fun you had playing it. With so much custom cards i would love to see kind of an regular thing to see more of the custom cards.
Hoping to see a little bit of "shuffle your library" action the next time :D
cardmarket uploads are the best mid-day motivator
Same here, I jumped up when I saw it pop up in my feed, I have been waiting for this video ever since I saw the community post. I can only hope we get to see a part 2 for this, as we didn't get to see a ton of cards sadly.
Algorithm, i don't comment on anything really but you guys are great and i want to support. I haven't played magic since urzas block but i love your paper magic videos and am always happy when i see a new one.
That's really kind of you to say :) thank you! Hopefully you get to play magic again one day, even if just for a draft. It's a really fun game
@Cardmarket - Magic PLEASE can you put a link to all of the community made cards so we can view them? (I want to know if someone really did put an Emrakul in there).
Unfortunately, that would likely take almost an entire day of work :/ most of the cards are in different format and it would be a lot of organization to host them somewhere online. Sorry. It would likely take me as long as it takes to make a video 😅 but there are many pages dedicated to custom cards online that you can browse :)
@CardmarketMagic OK, yeah I did see a similar reply on another comment. I never actually expected a reply from cardmarket! Love your videos! My favourites are this one (please do more in the future), the ai card videos, and the best deck in modern ones because I have a TON of wildcards on arena and want to know what kind of deck to make.
@@CardmarketMagic How many are they, in total? I have a layout with 'perfect card sizes' and can crop them as needed (3x3 cards for one DIN-A4 page). Feel free to reply to this comment. If it's not too much, I'd like to support you guys (and the community) and give it a shot ❤
The Questing Beast is like if someone made an Un card but didn't properly playtest it.
So, I'm going to skip over the common keywords like Vigilance, Haste, Cascade, Hexproof, etc. but for those less familiar with all these less regularly used keywords... here's what it can do:
Prevents up to 7 damage dealt to it from a single source (Absorb)
Creates 9 1/1 BW Spirit creature tokens with flying when it dies (Afterlife)
As it enters the battlefield, reveal any number of creatures in your hand, for each different type reveal, it gets 5 +1/+1 counters (Amplify)
Whenever it attacks, defending player sacrifices 8 permanents (Annihilator)
Whenever it attacks, each other attacking creature you control gets +1/+0 until end of turn (Battle Cry)
Whenever it blocks, it gets +25/+25 until end of turn (Bushido)
As it enters the battlefield, you may sacrifice any number of other creatures you control. This creature gains 5 +1/+1 counters for each creature sacrificed (Devour)
If a creature with greater power or toughness enters the battlefield under your control, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature (Evolve)
Whenever a creature you control attacks alone, it gets +1/+1 until end of turn for each Exalted permanent you control
This creature cannot be blocked except by Black or Artifact creatures (Fear)
If this creature is blocked, the blocking creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn unless it also has Flanking
Whenever this creature attacks and isn't blocked, it gets +4/+0 until end of turn (Frenzy)
This creature cannot be blocked except by creatures with Horsemanship
Whenever this creature attacks, you may have target creature an opponent controls untap and block it if able (Provoke)
If this creature is blocked, it gets +7/+7 for every creature blocking it beyond the first (Rampage)
Whenever this creature deals damage, if it not Renowned, put 9 +1/+1 counters on it and it becomes Renowned
This creature enters the battlefield with your choice of Haste or a +1/+1 counter on it (Riot)
This creature cannot block or be blocked except by creatures with Shadow
Whenever this creature dies, you may return a Spirit card with mana value 6 or less from your graveyard to your hand (Soulshift)
This creature enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it for each color of mana spent to cast it (Sunburst)
So many contradictory abilities. It's ridiculous.
I can't believe The Questing Beast didn't have Banding.
Y'know honestly these custom haven't really been that impressive. Not nearly as broken as I thought
The Questing Beast: "Allow me to introduce myself."
These are my favorite vidoes. More please!
Really hope they do more episodes with this. I wanna see the rest of the custom cards!
@16:35 He takes 6 bc Ragavan is legendary :)
I like that we've been seeing more felicia lately very cool
That Skeleton thing is actually a pretty cool card and not so super broken that it couldn't be a real card. I like the concept of the Legacy being a buff to future creatures after it dies.
Great video! Most of the cards have really cool designs. I wouldn't mind seeing some of them in commander sets. And I am glad to see Felicia in more videos. I really liked her in the pauper deck series, and she is great here.
Please do this again sometime!
OK, so Pox Engineer and Disciple of Flame are legitimately cool cards that I'd like to see made, and I really like the design concept of "Legacy"
I didn't expect these cards to be so powerful when I submitted mine
Same! The questing beast is completely broken lmaooo
Yeah, I submitted ones that I thought were actually playable. What did you guys submit?
Same, I'm realizing mine were way too fair. Granted, they were also more calibrated for commander, but still.
Where were you all submitting these cards? I didn’t hear about this at all.
@@davidhower7095 There was a community post a couple weeks back that had an e-mail to send them to.
13:08 I think about this absurd card often and can’t help but laugh hysterically.
damn rampant path to exile exile's twice! so strong
Lol I submitted the card and never realized that
this is so fun! very fun watching you guys play with fanmade fictional mtg cards!
At first I was like oh some of these seem pretty balanced then the questing beast came out and it was all over from there.
This was amazing! Y'all's chemistry is a gem to watch. I want more videos with Felicia and Fele
That was hilarious, I kinda hope they print The Questing Beast in an official set 😂
This is so fun, and making the cards to send in was also very fun! more vids like this please!
1:13 magic has hand traps...
The "Card market package" card was brilliant!
Love the series!
18:00 It also had Soulshift, so Carl should have tutored a spirit creature
Soulshift lets you get a spirit from your graveyard, not your library
@@MeaCulpa2018 i stand corrected, forgot how it worked i haven't seen it in so long
Also was a changeling, so it got the +1/+1 anthem effect from the card in the GY
@@Funkytrip73 Wait, if it's a changeling that means it can soulshift itself. Soulshift was greater than its mana value, and it's a spirit.
Okay now this is some utterly amazing content. What an amazing idea for a video.
“busted” lmao necrogenic engine isnt’t even playable in standard
This is ridiculously good, IMO you guys make the best and funniest MTG content
Thank you :) that's really kind of you to say
Really disappointed by the lack of oversight on these cards, specifically with artist credit. Several of the custom cards straight up missing it, while others have totally incorrect credit - Disciple of Flame credits Amino, (the website) while the art is actually by Bogdan Marica, for example. While checking if every one of the cards printed had correct credit is definitely infeasible, feels like ones lacking artist credit should've been excluded/since only a small subset were shown in the video, artist credit for those could've been double-checked before the video went out.
I agree
If I ever remake the card I’ll fix that. I’ll also go leave a comment under my comment talking about making it in that the artist credit is wrong.
The art for definitely not Black Lotus is incredible
YOOO MY QUESTING BEAST GOT FETURED!!!!!!!
You made a very busted card 😅
@@CardmarketMagicyup, I wanted to see how you guys would figure out how it all worked together LOL
@@ItzJames57 cant believe carl managrd to miss the renown trigger on the hit thats wild that he missed that lmao
Congratulation on having your busted design get featured. I laughed so hard for so long that I was truly close to throwing up my lunch. Please never design another magic card.
I want you to know that I still regularly think about your card when I need a laugh. What an absurd design.
I love the dynamic Felicia brings to the table!
So do we :)
The Questing Beast has changeling, which means it is a rogue and a skeleton, which also means that it gets +1/+1 from Ever Watchful Valkev!
Would love to see a version of this with a more curated custom list.
The Questing Beast would be such a nightmare if it didn't have Shadow to make all the combat abilities not matter. Having to remember and track things like flanking, rampage, bushido, etc. would be insane!
We need to see this again, if simply just to see more of the custom cards!
17:30 : Thanks carl for going easy on your opponents. The questing Beast had Soulshift which means this :
Soulshift is a triggered ability. “Soulshift N” means “When this permanent is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, you may return target Spirit card with mana value N or less from your graveyard to your hand
And as it's also a changeling, it's a spirit. So it could target itself with this ability and just come back to your hand.
You saw that, of course but decided to be nice which is commendable.
When Carl said "our friend The Questing Beast has.... Dredge" I laughed so hard I cried. Because I missed that too hahaha
Great video-would love to see more from these cards and from your community :)
Man, I must've missed the call for custom cards! I love making custom cards! 😢
The Questing beast also is a changeling so it gets +1/+1 from the rogue/skeleton anthem ;-)
And could have had extra counters as it has amplify 5 and you just showed every creature in your hand...
Legacy sounds like an interesting keyword. An anthem in the yard for Tribal decks seems pretty cool
We need another episode of this. Look how many cards there are. Could be a whole series XD
This is such a funny concept, I love it. Keep up the great work!
Really hoping to see a card that makes Carl shuffle his library!
That would have taken half the video 😅
How about you play a shared library game with these custom cards? It would be very interesting to see more of these cards, and everyone getting those 3-land per turn "broken lands" would make it so everyone can play something and we'd see much more of these. It would feel similar to PleasantKenobi's cube!
This was pretty fun. Though with the amount of people trying to "fix" lotus, those three lands a turn might have better been treasures. Or just 2 duals of Carls choice. I will choose not to comment on *The Questing Beast*
I love custom cards, even though often people go for a pretty over the top power level.
I actually burst out laughing when that Questing Beast appeared on the screen 😂
I absolutely love this content! This type of fun videos are just so much fun to watch! Please do another game so we can see more of the custom cards!
