This video was a life saver for me. I could not have done this without this. It did not go quite the same but read through I have tried to say what happened to me & how I worked around the problem. I accidentally erased my masOS. I had to make a USB flash drive to reinstall it as the internet recovery did not work. Watch this video carefully. You need to use another Mac to create this. The Mac I used has High Sierra. Because of this I had to double click InstallESD.dmg to mount this on my desktop, then it shows in the left column as MAC OS x Install, then click on your USB drive above, click restore, then click on the restore from menu/up/down arrows, select Mac OS XInstallESD, click on restore. It takes quite a while to upload to USB Drive. Once I worked that out & it was not hard once you know , it worked 👍 hope this all helps, i had to watch the video lots & kept pausing 👍

All you have to do it download and install lion digitally, once completed reboot holding command r, booting into the recovery partition lion naturally makes for the users. This is a good video, I didn't know much on how to install mac os b4 but I watched this and it worked perfect. There were no problems for me at all, I used a 16gb USB key so I had enough space lol. But again great video, my MacBook Pro was so slow and laggy on startup not how I bought it and when I did the Lion upgrade it just killed it. You're a fucking genius, but what i did was very different, i was pissed off at my Imac so i was like you know what i might as well reboot it and delete everything even know i didn't have the disc to install everything back, so what i did was, i downloaded mac os x lion on my sisters computer and i also used two usb drivers one of them i used as a external drive and the other one had the os x lion on it, i turned on the imac and went through the disk utility process but i used one usb drive as a resource and other one as a destination, now im just waiting for it to finish, thank you very much, appreciate.

Thanks! I'm doing a clean install of Lion over an OS updated Lion install - Why? A couple weeks back when I initially bought & downloaded Lion I got confused. As soon as it downloaded the install screen popped open, and I didn't know to close it was possible or OK! Since then I've redownloaded Lion (10.7.4) installer & made a USB flash drive installer from it. I use Carbon Copy Cloner to make bootable back ups of my MacBook Pro on a 7200rpm 500Gb G-Drive regularly. I, too made the final one

please help, I tried this process on my iMac that was wiped to dod standards so no recovery no startup disk just the flashing question mark folder. SO when i tried this and hit alt all i get is a cursor, even with the new os on a usb flash drive, any help?

@jingwen07 it is still a fresh install, i used the lion recovery mode to erase my whole harddrive, lion has a small hidden partition dedicated to recovery mode, so i erased everything then installed lion again. trust me it is a fresh install just a hell of a lot easier
I did the install but I think I deleted my old hard drive I just got the computer so I didn't need to do a backup. Nothing lost. But I did lose my snow leopard I literally can not past the disk utility screen anymore. No longer have access to the regular Mac screen with the docks on the bottom. Is this computer now useless

hello, I did everything correctly, and created the recovery USB. I picked the USB drive when I reboot the system, and apple sign shows, followed there shows a prohibitory sign, and it stays there forever.. Do you know why is this? I just changed the hard drive on my iMac to a ssd, and looking to reinstall the system. My iMac is mid 2010 model i believe. Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to do this using Mohave and have successfully created a Mountain Lion bootable USB (I think) but whenever I try to boot my old 2006 Mac Pro I select the USB installer but just get an endless spinning icon below the Apple logo? Any thoughts? Is my hard drive broken?
I made a partition on my new external HD for the lion install files. Then the other partition has my backup and a time machine just in case. Is that okay? There is no way that my backup partition will be touched or changed during set up?
So i went through all the steps and got to the restore part but I got the messege, "restore failure" "Couldn't execute helper tool". Any ideas what this is from?? Really annoying

Hey App Slice, I followed your process carefully. I have strong computer and fast internet. But the process is failing. Once the install begins the first step is "downloading additional components." Well the download barely starts when a spinning wheel appears and it will go no further. Any tips?
+bbbacres How long are you waiting before giving up? Also, you might be able to download a newer Lion install so that it doesn't have to download any updates. If this doesn't work, are you able to update to a newer version of OS X? Mountain Lion and beyond are free. I really wish I could provide more help but I haven't had a Mac for several years.

Im getting a new hard drive and was wondering, if i were to try to do this, would it work. being that the hard drive will have nothing on it

Lion is the last supported version on the 2006 Mac Pro. I know there are ways to get later releases installed on it, but I haven’t tried it myself.
