Thank you so much for posting this! Today the lcd of my Nikon accidentally broke during some outdoor shooting. I was desperate, the camera is still new. I called the assistance to see if they could substitute the lcd and they told me they could but for a crazy price. Then I saw your video and I am using my old iPhone as lcd instead.

Can i control the settings through the app? or it just acts like a secondary monitor?
It controls everything (ISO, SS, Aperture, WB, image size, etc.). I tried it on 5D Mark II.

Ingenious, extraordinary. I've been using DSLR's for the last 10 years and never knew this was possible. Completely negates the need for swiveling or flip open displays! Hopefully you can tell us how to control photos from the smartphone once you are hooked up. Thanks!

Jan Christian Aala I don't think you can connect the mini HDMI to the USB adapter. And there are many free apps available for the same purpose so just google it and you shall get it

Is it fair to say that depending on the phone and app, the phone display may give a false reading/visual output than that of the DSLR even if you were to adjust the settings, which may result in cheap, amateur looking footage and be harder or impossible to edit in post? Thanks, James.

What app do you run on your mobile to capture or control the Canon?
I have heard that iPhones don't support OTG the way Androids do. So is it impossible?
P4TTT see stock iOS doesn't support OTG that's why for iOS you need to jailbreak it
The last jailbreak version was for iOS 9.3
That's why I'm trying to downgrade my iPhone to 9.3 then I'll try and make the iPhone video if possible

Nice idea mate.. Have you tried canon camera connect app. I believe that also works but there is a delay in display (wirelessly on pc) but not sure about this app. Have you experienced any display delay.

The problem with this method is that there is significant lag between what the camera sees and the time it takes to display that on the phone (watch the leaves at the end of the vid). If you're doing stationary shots or just want a bigger screen, use this. If you're shooting handheld, stabilising, panning etc., it's def worth it to buy an actual monitor,
just upgrade your phone

No such thing as android cable. It's a USB cable, nothing to do with a phone operating system
No such thing as "android cable" lol. Hell it was a "windows cable" before anything in that case hahaha. It's a data cable and they make data cables for iphone. I'm sure 11 months ago

Hi Is there an OTG adapter for USB-C male cables? Or Lightning? Let me explain: I would use field monitor with the Android Pixel 3a which has an USB-C charge connection. The Pixel is somd and now I order the iphone SE 2020 which has lightning charge port. I had bought for an studio Rig as your presentation an ( field monitor + HDMI cables and the HP USB-C to Multi-Ports hub which has USB-C. Until today I didn't find and OTG adapter with female USB-C to USB micro as in your video presentation. I think it not exist? I will return the HP hub to Amazon but I can still cancel it in case you have an fast answer. In case of the lighting port, how to connect or better is there an OTG lightning solution?
