🇲🇾 Ex-PM Mahathir Mohamad: Malaysia 'will go to the dogs' | UpFront

  • Malaysia's former prime minister, Mahathir Mohamad, wants to "save Malaysia" and oust the country's current prime minister Najib Razak over claims that he mismanaged the economy, suppressed free speech and allegedly took hundreds of millions of dollars in bribes, all accusations Razak denies.
The "Save Malaysia" movement, led by Mahathir and made up of opposition leaders from across the political spectrum, is centred around a multimillion-dollar corruption scandal that alleges that nearly $700m found in Najib's personal bank accounts came from the state-funded 1Malaysia development fund. Najib, however, says the money was a campaign donation from Saudi Arabia that has since been returned.
Mahathir, who served as the country's prime minister for 22 years, says that Najib must "go" and that his "leadership undermines" Malaysia's institutions.
In this week's Headliner, Mehdi Hasan challenges Mahathir on his campaign to oust the current prime minister.
"He's gone off track," Mahathir says. "He has done a lot of things which are actually wrong, and as a result he has put the country in a very bad position."
Commenting on Malaysia's future, Mahathir adds, "If Najib is there, this country will go to the dogs."
In a wide-ranging interview, the former prime minister also discusses his political future, his legacy and his history of anti-Semitic remarks.

its an internal matter of Malaysia. But I love this guy, one of very few Muslims leaders who earned respect from muslims all around the world. Long live Mr. Mahatir and Malaysia. Respects from Pakistan

You are just as stupid as Mahathir. You can't even spelled his name correctly.
It was all Mahathir wrong doing. He is complaining now because Najib Razak reduce his share on the corruption funds. Najib Razak was Mahathir puppet after Anuar Ibrahim exposed Mahathir of corruption.
      Rest is history

      Andriy Law
All these mess are his creation. He put Anuar Ibrahim in jail with his false evidents and installed N. Razak as head of UMMO.
He will win this election and will need Anuar's party help to form Govt. Some deals must be done.

A rude presentor. Can you just let Dr Mahathir speaks and finish his words first? You got no manners by interupting him in the middle with you raised up your voices. You were really rude at that point. Please learn and practice yourself to be a good, polite and decent presentor or the Al-Jazeera will definetly kick you out one day.

Mehdi what is important to you nowdays, is how do you want to portray yourself as a tough journalist who is brave enough to ask imposing questions, but sadly you had loss your ways in wanting wanting to know the truth.
As for example when you ask him about his jews comment you could even rephrase yourself and ask him is he against every jews or those jews who is apart or supporting Zionism movement ? if he say all jews then we could say that he is in the wrong, BTW or perhaps you are too afraid to acknowledge and speak Zionism movement during your shows.
Even before the interview starts you already have your own narration and you are not interested to hear their answers first before judging them.
Mehdi don't a questions spitting machine.

In my opinion, the Interviewer/Presenter of the Program had accused our former great Prime Minister as an opportunist. He must be the biggest idiot. If Tun is considered opportunist , Tun would not voluntarily withdrew himself from politic. Today, he will still be the PM. Our great ex-PM HIMSELF GAVE WAY FOR OTHERS . See what is now happening to Malaysia, and the suffering of the rural poor, and the many government servants HAD been forcefully resigned and many were bankrupted as consequences of their inability to pay up their financial loans for their children's university/ college educations.

Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir has done a lot of great things for the country, no denial in that but he was the cause for our Malaysian racial divide. He was not just in the idea of developing the Malay race but undermining other races without obvious clues especially the Chinese in Malaysia. He believes the Malay race must always be the superior race despite what the leading party Barisan Nasional which claims that all race are equal.

Who is the interviewer - he is not asking question - drilling tun to suits his ego - tun, in his old age, could not keep quiet seeing whats being done to the rakyat and the nation which he and his team had built and recieved credit and acclaimation from all over the world. Now he and most of the rakyat irrespective of race/background and political affilitiations are trying to safe Malaysia (including our future generations) from going to the slump. You are trying to undermine his and others holistic efforts to combat the corrupted and cruel regime. He has make some mistakes during his times - who would not - he is not a saint - you list out his mistakes, you would probrably get about 10; and now you list out his contributions to the nation and the rakyat you would probably get 5 to 10 times more. Looks what is happenning to our nation - the majority MPS (from BN) are being controlled, so are the Govt. Enforcement agencies (their leaders were changed with 'Yes Men"). New regulations being enforced to make sure nobody touches the 1MDB scandle.
Mr. imagine that you have built a beautiful sand castle, along came some roudies who started kicking and destroying it - what would you have done. Look, what is happening to our nation - surely you can see unless you are also intoxicated with dedak .
We are not talking about millions but billions - imagine that we have to pay, not the loan just the interest alone, for the next 20 or more years. So Mr. don't be a wet blancket - help those who persue this noble course to safe our nation

kita belajar sewaktu kita mendengar. dia tanya soalan tapi taknak mendengar. just chill bro. stupidity come in many ways. tak perlu bodohkan bangsa sendiri kalau adab pun kurang. bagi aku dia nak cover tempat dia cari makan je. dan tak perlu ulang2 komen.. buat sakit mata je.

??? Do you even have any idea what journalism is about? LOL. They've already subscribed to a political view within their own organization. Their purpose is to get guests to give answers that they want, not to learn. LOL

Mahathir has done a lot of mistakes in his time, this is true.
Some of those mistakes may be criminal, this is plausible.
Today, at 90-something years old, he is powerless, less influential, suffering the effects of his decisions in the past.
Even then, his protest to Dato' Najib Razak is very much a welcome thing, at least for some of us.
He is willing to stand up, fight this upstart suspect of criminal corruption acts, along with his many former enemies in the Opposition.
Mahathir's decision today have to be commended. He could have stayed down and enjoy life, but no.
Maybe he wants to correct some of his mistakes. We might never know.

Mahathir should be blame. He create cronyism among UMNO. He thinks by helping UMNOPUTRAS they will help poor unfortunate kampong malays instead they got rich , living in a very luxurious lifestyle. All this got backfired. The poor malays are getting poorer day by day whereas the rich malays are living luxurious lifestyle. There no freedom of press. Media was control by one single party. Corruption was cover up. Where all these heading to, Malaysians are suffering due to high cost living.

In Malaysia the government cannot move any case in court unless the Attorney General agrees to it. So crooked people only have to have control over one person in order not to be charged. Are there any other countries with such a legal system?
