I drove delivery for Amazon for about five months (quit because my back hurt ALL THE TIME) but I honestly had a decent experience and I made $18.50 an hour. The hours were long but I didn't feel exploited or abused like a lot of people do at Amazon. Do I still COMPLETELY believe that those Amazon employees weren't given bathroom breaks, were pushed well beyond human limits, etc? Absolutely. I am not loyal to a corporation. I fully believe that if Amazon could get away with paying nothing they would.

$18.50 is still not a lot of money for such a high-risk/active job. I’d also be curious about the benefits, PTO, healthcare, etc. Was this full-time or part-time? I also know they are anti-union. I know you had a pleasant experience but you are still being taken advantage of. That work is so important and delivery is literally what keeps their company running. They are not paying you what you’re worth.

So strange how they promote parents being able to work from home and be present with their children when the reality is that they’re literally sitting there ignoring their kids while cold messaging strangers 19 hours a day. I haven’t watched the whole video yet, but after that “whambulance” review, I have to comment…
A huuuuge part of these people’s problem is that they lack EMPATHY. Okay, good for you, the company was a positive impact on your life. But that doesn’t negate the fact that it affected other people’s lives in a negative way. That’s why it’s so easy to call these people a cult.
I left a toxic job. That’s true for me. But it could also be true that it’s actually an enjoyable job for people who still work there. How can people not see that?! It’s literally real life for people’s experiences to be different in certain environments, especially somewhere like a job, and the fact that mlm-ers hear these stories and say “well that didn’t happen to ME, so it’s not true!” is so so telling. My own little Lula Roe story. So I was never a consultant but around the time the quality went down, I was working at an animal shelter thrift store. The amount of Lula shit we got was honestly disheartening. The area I was in is a low-income area. It was sad seeing these people come in with donations of just boxes of the stuff and we started having to tell them we couldn't take it. Because well even on a thrift store rack for 0.50 a legging or t-shirt was still asking for too much because of how toxic Lula Roe is. We ended up turning most of the stuff that would come in still with tags on into crafts/ragbags just to get rid of it. I think we even had some puppies and kittens born on the stuff because that's the only use we had for clothing that wasn't selling. And before anyone says "well clearly it wasn't a good store" We were selling other clothes like a lot of other clothes. We would get used to faded glory Walmart clothing that sold faster than Lula Roe.

My go-to example is that I have never been pregnant but clearly other people have been. What I experience has no bearing on what other people CAN or WILL experience. The fact remains that while not everyone in MLM means harm, it does in fact harm others. I get that some are doing well and it's how they take care of their family. I wish no ill will on anyone. But they really need to look into how many of their downline are losing money. How many are working hard but not successful but keep going because they are faulted for any and all negative feelings or unsuccesses. I would not be ok with people under me struggling while I flaunt my "lifestyle " to them. It's just wrong. I see the pull of wanting to be rich and successful. I really do, but at what cost?

    • @dqverify6797
      @dqverify6797 2 года назад +5

This is one of the things that’s so toxic and evil about MLMs. These women are brainwashed from the very beginning to believe that if someone is unsuccessful, it’s because they didn’t work hard enough or want it bad enough-which means the ones who *are* successful are successful because they DID work hard and DID want it bad, not because they were lucky enough to get in early before the market was saturated.
Believing this “failure is your own fault” ideology thus becomes imperative for them, because to admit that there is an element of luck means admitting that they are not special, that they are really pretty average, that they are not genius business whizzes but just women who happened to get in at the right moment. They can’t or don’t want to do that, so they attack the women who can’t make new potential downlines appear out of the blue in an area where every woman they know has already turned down the “opportunity” three or four times in the last two weeks. It’s sad and pretty gross/infuriating.

I disagree. No matter what your business is, you don't get to make all decisions. There are always contracts, laws etc that limit your power over your own business. Personally, I think MLM-huns do have businesses. They are self-employed after all. But their business isn't the MLM itself. It's SELLING the MLM. There's a huge difference. It's comparable to a self-employed cleaning lady. Her business may be cleaning the HQ of Apple, not Apple itself! Similarly, an IT-guy may be self-employed and be a subcontractor of whatever-company. That doesn't mean he owns even a part of that company! (I would still call them tiny businesses however and so long as the business is lucrative enough, why not? MLMs however simply spawn hugely bad businesses, because they are dependent on bad contracts.)

I notice some common themes in the reviews that you discussed:
    1) Lots of religious verbiage. Obviously Lularoe has a big connection to Christian churches and the mindsets of the people that go to them.
    2) Appeals to emotion (Lularoe helps me support my family!)
    3) Overuse of adjectives that don't convey any meaning. (such as "amazing")
    4) Strong cult-like attitudes. Odd worship of the founders.
    5) An inability to understand that the documentary was discussing the shady things Lularoe did in the past before the Justice Department forced them to make changes. They didn't do all that out of the goodness of their hearts.
    6) An odd willingness to deflect the experiences of many, many other people because "it didn't happen to me".

The idea that parents need to stay home to take care of the kids must be a large factor in MLM companies success in the US. I think if 1. the US government offered paid parental leave for at least 6 months, and 2. people put more trust to professional child carers, you wouldn't see these problems.
I live in Sweden and we have 2 years paid parental leave *per child,* and it's very rare that parents stay at home with children over 1.5 years of age. Kids thrive at daycare and there's no shame in leaving them there. We also don't have MLM huns.

@@elliebellie7816 I don't know what daycares you are familiar with but the daycares where I live *absolutely* encourage creativity, art and music.
The daycare I attended went on daily forest excursions. We crafted with material we had collected in the woods. We painted and crafted every day. We had singing and music sessions several times a day. We had a garden where we learnt about growing plants and composting.
My daycare was a parent co-op so, yes "Socialism at it's finest".
From what I've heard from friends and family, daycares now a day are even more focused on education and learning.
