This is so weird... I would AT LEAST want the bathbomb itself to enjoy in a warm bath with a glass of wine. I would feel even MORE duped by this MLM if I didn't even get to enjoy the full scope of the product!
This was exactly my thought! My mom bought me one of those cheapie ring candles a few years ago as a small add on to a birthday present and it was oddly fun to watch the wax disappear and find the cheap ring! Haha

They could have had a great gift item. That you give a friend and surprise them that there's another gift inside as they use it on their baths. But I don't understand who invented this whole business model. It's someone on crack and people still went with it.
It’s because they’re not bath bombs. They’re not scented, have no skincare , not made for use in a bathtub. The “bomb” is just a gimmick. It’s not part of the product at all.

Okay, I’m laughing so hard at the prices because I’ve worked at two jewelry stores, and NO ONE is selling cubic zirconia and gold plated rings for three digits, especially after it’s been in someone’s bath water. 😂

Right?! I have some lovely sterling silver rings with cubic zirconias and pretty fake stones I have bought from jewellery stores and I have only paid like $30 .
I went to the store with my friend and she went to ask about their silver chain prices for her mom…I assure you it was not ‘3 figures’ 😂
I had an ecommerce job where we were selling 925 silver rings that looked a lot like this in the £30-£40 range. They were secondhand, but secondhand sterling silver jewellery is easy to make good as new again.
I'm thinking this would be a cute idea for a bridal shower...or a bridal bath. The bride chooses jewelry for the bridesmaids, someone makes the bath bombs (which is super easy to do), and gives them as a gift to the bridesmaids. They get the jewelry AND the luxurious bath bomb, and no one supports an MLM.

I have a bath bomb company. And bath bombs with surprise items are always a big seller. But it’s absolutely BONKERS that people buy these without actually being able to use them. Like that’s the whole damn point.
I don't work for them BUT you do NOT HAVE TO have them fizz the ring online. when u buy the ring you put in the notes if u want them to reveal it online OR send to ur house to do a home reveal. Like A LOT of kids rings get sent home so the kid can fizz it.

It’s comments like these from people who are just making assumptions that are ignorant as hell. Nowhere does it say or is it sold as a dang bath product. Those are the cheap gimmicky 25 cent rings.
We should do a review on your home made bath bombs and the chemicals and fragrances and does you put into them that you don’t list. The toxic crap you have people soak in to be luxurious I’m sure. Totally different company all together. But you wish you were these sisters that came up with this genius idea. And you could never come close to competing so don’t be jelly girl!

Along with the dopamine inducing gambling structure, the parasocial nature of these “parties” are also an appeal to loneliness; the rep is talking to you, addressing you directly, sharing personal details about their life…it feels special and personal. It’s a really sad reflection of the isolation so many in our society feel.
This is so true. I discovered this organization just in the last two weeks. I’ve been stuck at home with my kids and we have been extremely sick. I was scrolling on RUclips and these live parties started popping up. I don’t even like rings or jewelry like this but it made me feel like I wasn’t alone, and it felt so nice to have on while I just was in a time of having no contact and not much support. I was tempted to even buy a ring that I knew I wouldn’t wear because I just wanted the interaction or something! And the gambling comparison is real too- I’m glad I searched them on RUclips cuz it can be such a trap if you’re vulnerable, which I’m normally not lololol

Our brains are wired to enjoy reward that is tied to risk. He also has a great series of lectures here on RUclips.
I was about to comment exactly that - I see the target customer (aside from the MLM rep herself) being lonely and/or have a spending addiction. When you’re incredibly lonely, being part of this online “party” could be appealing. I feel so sorry for anyone being taken advantage of by these reps and this company.

This is super reminiscent of the oyster pearl parties where they take a bunch of dead oysters, shove like 30 fake dyed pearls inside of them, and open them up on livestreams for people to buy
We got some of those oysters in the 90s for Christmas, the fun of it was opening them yourself. My parents purchased them from JCPenney or QVC. They even sell these things at The Dole Plantation, they aren't some rare exclusive MLM only item like the claim. Knowing what we know now, we haven't made that a family tradition with the new generation. You see the horror stories of how they either smell like rotting seafood or formaldehyde and how the pearls are soft trash pearls, I didn't have that experience, but I'm not willing to gamble on it.

I have a family history of gambling addiction and I myself have dealt with a shopping addiction. I clocked this as gambling/habit-forming immediately and I’m relieved you talked about it.
22:33 you hit the nail on the head. I'm exactly the same way. I want to KNOW what my money is buying. My mom always said everything actually has 3 prices.
-The literal price on the tag.
-The value of the item. Is it worth the price they're asking? Will it solve a problem, fix an issue, save me time, etc. What value is it going to perform in my life? Or does it just sit on a shelf and look pretty? (not a lot of "decor" in my house lol)
-And the cost. Different from the price... This is what is it costing ME? Is this 5 hours of minimum wage? Is this a nice dinner I can't have later in the week? Is this new boots I won't be able to afford come winter? Is it costing me space in my house I can't afford to give it? The money/time/space/energy this thing will take has to come from somewhere else. Am I ok with not having that money/time/space/energy later on? Because that's what spending NOW is going to cost me LATER.
Everything has 3 prices and you should do your best to be ok with all 3 of them before purchasing.

What’s truly sad is that these ladies only make ~$1 - $2 per bomb / necklace / earrings / bracelet sold after netting out expenses. That’s why there isn’t an income disclosure!! 😔🤬

My fiance bought my engagement ring on Etsy, it's $600 ish and rose gold, uniquely crafted and so pretty! Meanwhile I can get cubic zirconia at the jewellery store for $20, and my kids' Treasure X toys have little gold plated parts to them as part of their selling point and they're not three digits 😂
Hell, I'd go for the rainbow moonstone as a wedding ring for $100+ on etsy. Affordable and gorgeous

They really do. My bridal set(engagement and wedding bands) were apx $400 and are solid rose gold, morganite and black diamonds.

You are absolutely right-I had reacted to the “game show” feel of the online parties, but your analogy of gambling is much better. The “you almost won; keep trying” and “never know what you’re gonna get” and even the cowbell ringing sound at each reveal is alarmingly reminiscent of a SLOT MACHINE. It would not surprise me if this were intentionally psychologically engineered to tap the same brain reward systems that are targeted by casino games, especially slots. Creepy.

Being a casino gambling addict these tactics light up that part of my brain. Thankfully knowing the actual value of this trash makes them easier to avoid, though I am a sucker for the trinket/stone scoop from the Chinese sellers which are cheap too but properly reflect the market cost of the items, instead of the bait and switch of the jewelry bomb and oyster schucking scams.
It’s not creepy! It’s behavioral science called intermittent reward system. Ie slot machines function on this science. I’m not a rep, nor have I purchased any jewelry.
I’m not into mystery boxes but the whole thrill is opening it yourself, no? They’re basically ruining the experience and just sending people random jewellery they couldn’t pick for themselves lol

I’m so glad you covered this! I actually purchased from BP because I thought I was helping a small business and didn’t know it was an MLM for months until someone said “join my team” then I realized what it truly was. I got rid of any jewelry I got from them.
As someone who's watched hours of these BP tiktok lives (while I had covid and couldn't do much other than scroll on tiktok), I think I can clarify a few things.
When it comes to repeats it definitely happens and it happens often regardless of if you buy from different reps, each collection has a set amount of styles and at times they bring back older styles and put them into other collections. On some of these lives if a buyer gets a repeat they will gift it back to the rep for a giveaway and then the rep pushes for a "like goal" anywhere between 50k to 200k likes for the ring.
I have noticed almost all these huns have at least one other job and a lot of them give extra gifts and prizes out which I imagine eats into their profits. They also all seem to have their own personal collection with an insane amount of jewelry. You'll often also see reps buying from each other and encouraging others to do so.
And when it comes to repeat customers it's unbelievable, these customers are there every single live spending hundreds of dollars because they're hunting a specific style of ring. There was one woman who got the rep to use a fake name so her husband wouldn't know she was buying more.
Also when these huns get these repeat customers they start encouraging them to join their team and start their own business.
Omg, that's so scummy and predatory. This business is built on enabling and exploiting life-destroying behavior. Thanks for sharing the extra details.

Blind box/gacha culture can be dangerous enough to people with impulse control or who are easily addicted but adding an M-LM business model to it is just insidious. I'm not against gacha/blind box, and play lots of games with this element, but I do think it's not well understood or really regulated and adding a predatory business angle on top is just top shelf assholery.
It's the same psychology behind slot machines, isn't it?
I'm against it at this point because I, someone who is fairly against gambling and was raised in a strictly anti-gambling household, developed a gambling addiction playing a blind box mobile game without realizing what was happening. I was 24 at the time. And most of these games/activities have an element of targeting children who don't have fully developed impulse control yet. It's fun and harmless when it's like, a $6 Shopkins mystery toy, but even those can get completely out of hand.
The loot box / gacha concept is very widespread in video games. There are tons of popular games that give players loot boxes for a price. People buy them in the hopes that they can get that rare weapon/item but most of the time they will get bad items, which will make them spend more. The rare item being available for a limited time adds another layer of urgency. In fairness to these games there are ways to "buy" these loot boxes without spending actual money, you just need to grind by doing in game tasks and saving your points to "buy" these.
Gacha vending machines that give you a random toy is also extremely popular in Japan, some people even spend a lot just to collect all the characters.
I'm aware of what they are, as I participate in both digital games and physical gacha/kuji draws. Hopefully this will be helpful for someone else though?
Not to be rude, but I didn't ask. There definitely needs to be more information as well as clear and open disclosures about costs and odds/chances though, as I do feel for people who fall into the "just one more time" mentality, or those who just didn't realize they were gambling.
I just recently came across your channel and holy crap! The first thing I said was "It can't be a diamond and a cubic zirconia at the same time!" 😂 This might be the most bizarre MLM I've ever seen. And I live in Utah, so I've seen A LOT.
I managed the jewelry department of a higher end department store for about 7 years and learned a lot in that time. You're 100% correct that the actual worth of a rhodium (assuming over brass maybe? Not silver at that price) and CZ ring isn't going to sell for $129, but there's more to this than just MLM shadiness.
The entire time I was at that jewelry department out items were on sale. Never, ever did someone pay full price. The sales would vary slightly (probably to encourage specific lines to be purchased) but they were always large percentages off. Gold chains, for example, were at a minimum "70% off" all the time, but might flex all the way up to 80% on occasion... but is that 80% off really 80% off? No, not if the week before and the week after you could have just gotten it for the 70% price.
This is super pervasive in the jewelry industry as a whole, and while I've heard that truly higher end jewelers don't do this I do think it makes sense to mention in relation to bomb party, since we all know they aren't dealing with high end jewelers anyways.
To come full circle - that $129 ring might have a $129 price tag on it in a department store, but then it's 80% off to make you feel like you're getting a deal and you walk away still paying twice what you would have on Amazon.
In a way it makes the way they're talking about pricing feel even MORE predatory, or if not that at least uneducated about jewelry.
As someone who has ADHD and prone to risky quick decisions, when she was announcing how much it retails for and rang the bell for over 3 figures, it spiked my dopamine as you said the “rush“ of gambling and whenever you win a slot machine for example, you get the winning bell or the loud sound that means ‘YOU WIN!’
Seems like some sort of tactic or manipulation that, I agree with you, can pray on those with money issues.
A lot of these bath bomb MLMs *reek* of preying on gambling addicts. Gambling addiction is absolutely horrible too, it's not a chemical addiction like drugs but it can often be so much harder to break.

Same! I don't have an ADHD diagnosis (yet), but I had a similar reaction, and if I had come across this when I was really young, it could have been detrimental to my family's finances.
I have seen cubic zirconia marketed as "diamond cut", meaning it is a cz but uses the diamond cutting style guide. And some do use "diamond cubic zirconia" as a shorthand for that. It's still just a regular cubic zirconia, but it has been cut using diamond designs/styles so that it looks like a real diamond, at a glance at least. So not an outright lie, just...marketing misdirection, trying to create an (unfounded) association with expensive/exclusive products in the mind of the buyer. Still a scummy practice, but within 'allowed' scummy parameters.

I work in the industry and Rhodium is $14,000 an ounce. I once held a solid mass of it no larger than my palm (after extracting it from machinery) and it was worth $40,000.
I'm not going to lie, the concept for this is really cool. If it *weren't* an MLM and they were just *honest* about the quality, I wouldn't mind paying $20 for cheap but ok looking jewelry that gets revealed on a livestream.

Hello I am a GIA graduate gemologist and I absolutely agree with you. There is no way that ring is worth over one hundred dollars. The mass market price for cubic zirconia is only a few dollars per carat which is why it’s used in so much costume style jewelry.
"diamond cubic zirconia" is like how they will sell fabric labelled "poly-silk" hoping that nobody will check the actual fiber content which says 100% polyester (I worked at a chain fabric store for years and yes they do this and they just mean "silk-look polyester" not "silk blend" it drove me crazy)

Hannah, you are 100% right about the psychological aspect of the reveal parties. You know how some video games (especially mobile games) entice players to buy loot boxes that may or may not have some rare items? That's what this MLM is: Microtransaction loot boxes disguised as bath bombs.
I got weirdly offended that it's not even an actual bath bomb you can use and it's just watching a strange lady dissolve a bomb in a bucket on stream. That's awkward.
Part of it is how they act like your friend and how exciting it is to show you this great thing they've unveiled for you.
I’m not defending them but I did ask in one of the livestreams and it’s optional to have it sent to you to dissolve or have them do it on livestream. So people are CHOOSING not to do it themselves… which is even more strange imo but it could be an ego thing.. wanting others to know what they got.
@@dreammore4868 I think that depends on the person because I've seen other comments on other videos about Bomb Party where they didn't know that the bath bomb would be dissolved, weren't told, and then were told after "you have to ask me not to dissolve it if you want it sent to you whole" when that isn't made clear and therefore the reasonable assumption is that you're purchasing a full bath bomb. I guess if you're new to it you can get duped like that, and that in itself is scummy af.

This reminds me very much of those "pearl parties." Anyone remember Vontel Pearls? People would purchase an oyster, and then the rep would open the oysters on a live and see what pearl was inside. Then the customer could pay to have the pearl set in various jewelry pieces.Of course the oysters were dead, preserved and just stuffed with cheap pearls. They would also do the ridiculous valuation of the pearls and falsely tell people that they were worth so much more than you paid, and there was also that "you never know what you're gonna get" gambling element. But Vontel shut down suddenly and just abandoned all of their distributors. This really makes me wonder if the people behind Vontel Pearls are now running this MLM, just because the concept is so similar.
I actually like the idea of a prize coming inside a bath bomb - but only if I got to dissolve the bath bomb and then find something cute or cool inside. I could see it being popular with kids too; they dissolve the bomb in the bath and find a little toy or trinket. But I really don't at all understand the appeal of a bath bomb you can't dissolve yourself!

Having worked in the jewellry world, given the value, there is no way CZ and usually silver base metal with rhodium plated, that the rings/jewellry is worth the pricing. And certainly not worth up to $1500. The rhodium plate will wear off. The CZ will never sparkle like a diamond. CZs will never have the real look of emeralds, rubies, sapphires, or amethysts. Silver is a soft metal and the prongs can lift or break and the stone could be lost. Run, don’t walk away from this.
I decided to read through their complaints on the BBB. Bomb Party replies to every complaint with reasons that it isn't a real complaint. Someone said they got broken jewelry and couldn't figure out how to return it. BP customer service said it's easy to return and said "it appears that complainant has buyers remorse." They are over on the actual BBB website gaslighting people and making it seem like they are just complaining to complain, not because there are actual issues.

I’ve watched a couple of the more popular live TikToks for hours , the same customers every time and they order multiple items at every live party . They’re definitely hooked !!
Why wouldn’t people just reverse-image the pics of the jewellery they like the look of, to find a cute Etsy or other online store who has something similar....?
The discussion about the gambling aspect really hits me in the "mystery box" feels. I love to order "mystery" of things I want, like leggings and bracelets, but they're usually cheaper when you get them in the mystery packs.
I hate the idea of not knowing what I'm getting! My favorite part of a mystery is figuring it out. 😆

My favourite pair of athletic leggings were a mystery bag, picked a size top and size pant and they sent me a set at half the price. I'm also the type of person to choose whatever on the menu I've not heard of and have no clue what it'll be.
I'm such a sucker for mystery boxes. I used to be subscribed to a makeup one and it was the best. Like 90% of my makeup collection came from those boxes. There are some things I'm picky about and want to pick for myself (like clothing), but especially when I was just getting into makeup, it was really cool to be able to explore random stuff that I wouldn't ever think to buy.

In my feed I have seen tarot/psychic readings, people selling scoops of random crystal stuff, people opening farm raised pearls, even a literal home birth, and bomb party stuff. I never knew wtf would be the fun in having the rep do the bath bomb reveal for you? Like is it not an actual bath bomb? Or just a fizzy casing? This all seems extremely sus

i’ve been watching anti-mlm videos for so days now and i JUST now realized a lot of people at my old church are in an jewelry mlm. i guess seeing the live selling parties jogged my memory.
The commission in this company along with most MLM’s is so low for selling. Anyone in an actual business knows that profits margin isn’t sustainable with al the other cost for running a business. Hence, recruiting is a must🤦🏼♀️ And exactly what you said, most stay at the bottom rank. I was in the MLM industry for 9 years! Took me way too long to wake up! So thankful I did and started my own business thanks to creators like you💜💜

You are one of my favorite anti MLM channels. As a former victim of NUMEROUS MLMs during my early months of being a new and vulnerable stay at home mom I really appreciate the anti MLM community and the support you show here on your channel as well as the debunking of all the most common MLM myths
I love those bath bombs that have little trinkets inside but in that case the product is the bath bomb and not the thing inside. So it doesn't really matter if the thing inside is a little plastic toy, it's not really the main focus. This business model of watching someone else dissolve the bath bomb just makes the cheap jewelry inside worse imo.

I bought a jurassic world bath bomb that had a little dinosaur keychain in it. It was way better than any shitty mlm jewellery. The bath bomb was nice too, I love the lemony smell you get with all bath bombs.

That gambling connection you made is exactly what I was thinking as you were explaining the randomness of the jewelry. It is absolutely a marketing ploy by the company to hook people in and keep them spending and watching the lives
I would be ok with paying $20 for a bathbomb with trinkets inside, if it was beautifully crafted with multiple colors, hand painted decorations and delicous scents. It would be a little steep even so. However, this isn't even a real bath bomb that I can use. There are literal kids toys that does the same thing and cheaper.
This, in my opinion, is the absolute WORST MLM out there! You continue to amaze me by the amount of knowledge that you have on these MLM‘s, and you bring new ones to my attention every time I tune into your channel. Being a recovering alcoholic, I could easily see how I could be sucked into this one. Alcoholics, Gambling addicts, as well as any other kind of addict, all seek to satisfy that rush. Which, I think, this MLM would do perfectly, and what makes it so dangerous.

As a kid i was OBSESSED with these little mermaid toys, you'd buy them in an unscented fizzer thing and put them in the sink to reveal a little plastic mermaid. It was random so you'd never know which one you were getting, and it came with a booklet which showed you how rare your mermaid was. I took my pocket money to the grocery store to get one every saturday, this feels like the same experience but for middle aged wine moms lol.
You know… the seller probably gets a lot of dopamine from getting to do the bath bomb part and finding out what piece is inside and then they don’t even have to buy it for themselves. It seems also like a tactic to recruit people cuz that seems like the fun part tbh

I loved seeing the jewelry coming out of the bath bombs I revealed at my parties. Each host can do things a little differently but most reps run their parties about the same. I joined bomb party during the pandemic because I was stuck inside this gave me the chance to socialize with others. But I'm glad I got out of it because I was padding everyone else's wallet while mine grew cobwebs

I don't remember the mystery boxes at Claire's but there's a Canadian company called Ardene (which I think is also in the US, but I don't know how widespread it is) and it's pretty similar (except that it sells clothes too). I was a SUCKER for their $5 mystery bags when I was a preteen. I stopped buying them after like five bags though because I was done with accumulating tacky sunglasses lol but I def relate to the dopamine rush of not knowing what you were gonna get!

I find the shadiest part about their jeweler is they stated its plated without including what was coated. Which unfortunately can be more or less any metal, which is how people get scammed by fake jewelry (compared to being told it's an actual precious metal) even outside MLMs.
And what is the base metal? Is it hypoallergenic? Is it safe? So many questions.

Thank you so much for showing what the Bomb Party is all about. I was curious, because I have bought from Fragrant Jewels in the past. They have bath bombs, but I take showers, so only bought a couple of their candles. Even though they promote the chance of winning an expensive piece of jewelry, they are at least more honest with the worth of their jewelry. $10 for the rings I revealed myself. I still have the rings, but have since stopped shopping FJ after finding out they were an MLM.
i don't understand the point of the product reveal streams from the point of view of the customers. why would i buy a mystery box just for someone else to open it for me? part of the fun of mystery boxes is opening them yourself. i get that it's good marketing for the huns but for the customers it's just weird imo
