► Our Website for Tools, Parts and more Videos: mechaniclifesty...
We took this video to show you how to find the timing belt marks in case you are replacing the timing belt on a Chrysler PT Cruiser 2.4 EDZ (the non turbo engine), or Dodge Stratus Sedan Second Generation, and Chrysler Sebring 2.4 engine EDZ. This is for the chrysler EDZ Engine. In the coupes they used the mitsubishi engine so make sure that you have the same engine that we have in the video.
We have a video how to do the whole timing belt replacement on a pt cruiser but if you just need to see the install and the timing belt marks then this is the right video for you.
We recommend to replace the idler pulleys and the water pump when you replace the timing belt so you can save yourself future headaches.
Make sure that both camshaft gears are pointing up and the arrows are perpendicular to the surface of the head.
Once you install the belt check the timing marks again and then tighten the tensioner and rotate the crankshaft at least 2 revolutions and check the marks again.
    This should work for:
2001 Dodge Stratus Sedan Timing Marks 2.4
2002 Dodge Stratus Sedan Timing Marks 2.4
2003 Dodge Stratus Sedan Timing Marks 2.4

I liked this video very much especially the part talking about how to set the belt tensioner for the timing belt. Seem no one else covered it like you did and that really helped me. Thanks

For all the folks who say these are not really interference engines...... this is partially correct. I've never seen a broken belt damage a valve, however if the cams continue to turn, the valves have a small amount of overlap in the cycle. So they can in fact be damaged. Never once seen it happen though.

everything looked good but the part on the tensioner isn't right. you don't just feel the tension. there is a line up mark on the tensioner. you have to use a mirror and align the two points. what you did will cause premature belt wear. You need to look up the right procedure and correct it. giving people the wrong information isn't cool. Surprised you don't know that since you knew about the half tooth procedure

I just did one and also had to advance the intake cam a bit to make them go into alignment when I took up the slack. Just wouldn't work any other way. And lock the crank in place so it doesn't turn a bit when you are working on the upper timing marks.

The Chrysler 2.4 is a non-interference engine so the pistons won't make contact with the valves.
