Hi Mark thank you for your kind words about my home. I am Maltese and i`m proud of it,and yes it is true what you said that it is a very warm and welcoming island. I just hope that whoever decide to come and visit us they have a great time and will come back again;
Malta has restored a lot of buildings. Now they are working on the infrastructure. New roads, plumbing, and drainage system. It's a great time to be in Malta.
This is perfect timing! I am an American, my husband is British and we're moving here next month so this was what I needed to see on my Sub videos. Very informative!
I love that you love Malta:) A quick tip: To pronounce Mdina properly, add an "invisible I" before it--it should sound like "Imdina." The "invisible I" will help with words such as "mqarrun" as well.
Before he said it I was curious to hear how he'd say the word should he mention it ,the way he said it or the way it is usually said in Malta...He is saying the schwa (or as it's often called in Malta a ''vokali tal-leħen''-''vowel of the voice'' (or simply the English short ''u'' sound in button, the sound in between ''ng'' and 'l' in ''triangle'' or any minimized vowels as the ''e'' in ''butter'')behind the ''m'' rather than before so he says muh-di-naa (in International Phonetic Alphabet ,/mədiːnæ/ rather than /əmdiːnæ/),haha,still getting it though :),And ,Yes, I like linguistics...
Just got back from Malta and Gozo, Walter's video is quite accurate. Unusually for November we had no rain although it was windy on Gozo. This was low season so not packed with tourists. Mdina and Valetta highly recommended. Don't miss the prehistoric temples in south Malta. Great food ... rabbit and pasta dishes were fantastic. Bus transport was very convenient and cheap.
We have a trip planned to Malta mid October. We wanted to go to a place neither had been before and chose Malta. Every video I have see has made me pleased this place was our choice. Thanks for your information. Having been to many places in Europe I do not expect culture shock as many say they experience.
I love videos like this that are very informative in a short amount of time. Even including the small details like what type of plugs/adapters you'll be using. Thanks for this video!
I used this video to help prepare for my Maltese trip. It helped out a lot! The only curve ball for Americans is dealing with soda. Mountain Dew does not exist, and Fanta is not orange soda as much as it is Polar's Orange Dry. Otherwise, the people are genuinely bi-lingual. Meaning that in all my interactions the pauses to think of the word that would happen, is more akin to when anybody can't think of the precise word i.e. "That umm...vehicle over there" opposed to "That 2-door coupe over there."
As a Maltese I chuckled at your pronunciation of pastizzi and Ftira hehe..also note that comino has the blue lagoon and not Blue grotto. Blue grotto is located in another part of the main island.
hi buddy thanks for ur nice coments we realy apriciate it hope to have all ur viewers over here in malta every one is more than welcome just rembere that we r a small iland not a big city like new York but still have many things to offer its a safe place cheap to go out good food cinemas discos night clubs pubs shops all over the place well we have a little bit of everything
Nice Vid.... correction re shops... "normal" shop hours here are 9am - 1pm and 4:pm - 7 pm Mon - Friday, 9am - 1pm Saturdays. Closed on Sundays. But shops in cities like Valletta are generally open from 9am - 7pm straight. FYI.
+Marie Angel Hernandez it would be nice, people are nice, good food, nice weather (though a bit windy) there are sandy beaches some places too, the diving is nice. and I guess you could fit in some snuggle time as well :) congrats on the nuptials!
enjoyed watching you ime half maltese english and go every year, usually its people calling the island i see on here but you gave the island the thumbs up nice one
Hotel booked in Valletta for June…can't wait. Malta looks and sounds incredible. Also delighted to know sooooooo many Catholic churches exist there. :)
Hey Mark.. Tell the people to use the public transport ..You can travel all day for €1.5 Euro .. Many restaurants in Valleta also do Breakfasts and Brunch .. Good video though
I have wanted to visit Malta for a very long time, the ancient ruins, any WWII sites. Have you included any of these sites on another video. What is the best way to get to Malta from the US? Love your stuff
Just came back from Malta. I think you will find that the prices have gone up since your last visit, it's even more expensive than Italy where I currently live.
I wanna move to Malta. I already live in one of the nicest places in North America, so... btw I did research. Ik that they speak English, and us multiple islands. I also know that the Malta military holds some very good events. And that it is nature paradise over there.
Ang nz Glad we can help. I will have the 5 love and hates of Malta and Top 10 Malta out over the next week and a half so please keep an eye out for them.
I think you meant to say the Blue LAGOON is on Comino. The Blue GROTTO is on the south side of the main island. But yeah... Malta is wonderful and very cheap.
Hi, i would like to know about seafood, especially about crabs and lobsters, are they for sell there, in restaurants, how expensive? And what else you recommend from sea food? Thank you
Basically. I am maltease. So basically Malta is a small island. Busy, Hard working and Beautiful Island! There are many famous restaurant and historic buildings/ items. One of the world's largest Cannons is in Malta. The climate is often sunny but you better come in summer cause right now it's kinda cold and rainy.. The sea is heaven Malta is one of the best places to go relax next to a calm sea and drink some wine/cocktails. There are many typical Maltease starters and foods. and i think you should give them a try! Gozo is also a great place to visit. it's only like 30minutes away by boat? It's just simply beautiful! the town is really small and peaceful at times. If you are a bit funky You should go to Paceville in Malta which is basically a place filled with discos Gambling ect. But be careful.. Drunk people might hurt you :( Malta is also known for it's kind heart, most of the people will stop and help you, unless they don't know the type of subject or are in a hurry. We use the Euros like the video said. Basically here we have Maltease transport which is kinda lame Cause you have to book for your Tal'Linja Card from before so you can benefit of riding the bus at a cheap price. Need more info. Just reply with your question
+Barry China Hi Barry , If you're planning to study in Malta , you can either choose a school and they'll take care of everything or else don't book anything and apply with lifelonglearning. ( non-eu) they pay around 70euro for the whole course. 2 /4hrs per week 6 months.
I'll be going to Malta in about a week I'll be staying near the bridge to the Manoel Island. I was wondering if any locals could recommend some good restaurants that aren't expensive tourist traps? We're not really into fancy restaurants, probably gonna live off of fast food (we do want to try local stuff though, of course).
to be honest.. it is easy to find restaurant that offer maltese food. i dont think there are any restaurants with expensive tourist traps...here.. the locals and tourists eat in the same restaurants.. since it is a small island. i would recommend you to go marsaxlokk, valletta, mdina, golden bay, mellieha, birgu, comino, gozo (many places - small er island than Malta and you go by ferry)...
my family is from Malta and I'm pretty sure from medina. my grandparents go there once or twice a year. I'm hoping to go there one day to meet some of my family ❤️
who loves Malta! me cause i live there and they have very good service there is also an acuaruim there with loads of sea animals and it has very good weather and i suggest coming in summer not in winter cause in summer the weather is perfect but in winter there is alot of rain and storms
Alex Vasiliadis, Mdina is the current name we call it now, but until the time of the Knights of St John's era it was still called by its original name, Medina. Plus, for certain foreigners is a bit hard to pronounce "md" together in the beginning of a word.
I assure you, *****, it is a bit hard. Even for us Maltese, because to be able to pronounce it well we usually add an 'i' in front of the name during conversations. Us Maltese we put the 'i' in front and the foreigners put an 'e' between the 'M' and the 'd'.
+Alexios Vasileiadis People may call it what they want. It's nice that they use historic names not just the crap we have these days. That will really get them enthuastic from where the name actually originated. i say let each person to be free in how they pronounce or say words unless it's something completly different
I repeated the video when I heard him say Medina, However I think its ok because they have the same origin "المدينة" even though Maltese similar to Maghribi doesn't pronounce the Alif "ا" so it becomes Lmdina "لمدينة"
I am Maltese! There is a catamaran service from VALLETTA to POZZALLO (sicily), but not straight to italy. You can go as a passenger or you can take a car with you. 60-ish euros per passenger and 130-ish for a car. It takes 1 hour 30 minutes. In my opinion if you're not planning on a road trip catch an airmalta flight to catania it will only take 25 minutes to arrive and you will arrive straight in the heart of sicily. Then to go to italy you have to catch a ferry from MILAZZO or PALERMO.
I would love to visit Malta, the beaches, the history. I understand they have ancient caves with lots of Ancient Greek I've heard from friends in the U.K. That islands around Italy as well as Spain are the most popular places to visit from England, with Malta down the list. Maybe that has to do with nightlife drinking, drugging, nudity, etc being more popular on the Spanish, Italian Islands. I'm just interested in great beaches and interesting WWII historical sites to visit, as well as the ancient stuff. I don't need to get bombed or have drugged sex with people who's names I won't remember in the morning. If that's your thing, great. I don't live in Europe so a visit isn't a casual deal I can make any time I wish with cheap Ryan Air tickets. People talk a lot about Fero, never heard of the place, Portugal maybe.
i took pizza in Rome and it sucked HARD! I've had tons of better pizzas in Malta. In my opinion Maltese restaurants have the best value for money food. The quality is good in most restaurants and the portions are usually large. Beverages are quite cheap compared to European standards (in Rome and Paris a coca cola costs 4 euros in restaurant, in Malta it costs 1.50-2).
Gabriel Jesus can international student get job in malta or not dude... is malta good for international student.. i am also coming to malta to study.. bachelor of business in middlesex university.. can you give any info.. dude?
I was born in Birkirkara Malta and left aged 12. After living in Sydney, for 20 years I returned to Malta. I could never live in Malta again, with its traffic chaos, extreme heat in summer, salty tap water, daily fireworks and canon explosions, litter, claustrophobic atmosphere and hordes of ghastly tourists causing overcrowding of restaurants, buses and beaches.

I was actually wondering about that, he keeps saying Blue Grotto, Comino, I actually thought there were two :-) Lovely country :-)
Excellent video. Very informative and in depth. Great job explaining what to plan for and what to not to be too concerned about. Thank you.

Want to take a trip there this summer. What are cannabis laws there? Do people smoke casually?
who loves Malta! me cause i live there and they have very good service there is also an acuaruim there with loads of sea animals and it has very good weather and i suggest coming in summer not in winter cause in summer the weather is perfect but in winter there is alot of rain and storms
FYI It's called Mdina not Medina. The latter is a city in Saudi Arabia.

NordikFilm I am not sure, but I don't think it is that bad as my buddy was like "we can just hop on" like it was not a bad cost

Lol that's not how you pronounced Mdina other than that I think it was a good description of Malta ( btw I'm Maltese)
Maltese too
Very informative bro
In your opinion, what country has the the best Pizza?
***** Italy of course :)
Napoli in Italy has the best pizza...
i took pizza in Rome and it sucked HARD! I've had tons of better pizzas in Malta. In my opinion Maltese restaurants have the best value for money food. ***** Malta :-)
TheMaltamonument
Rome, unless you find the little side-streets, tends to cater to tourists. Naples has the best pizza in the world, though.
