Looking forward to this recreation.I think it will open up a whole new wave of indie game development.Who would have thought in 2024 the speccy is still alive and well.....
Yep hopefully we will see new games coming through for this one. I got the C64 earlier this year and was amazed by many of the new games which have been written for it.
I put my creativity on hold for 40 years and now going to unleash it with writing adventure games with The Quill. Anyone remember that? I’m looking forward to revisiting this little box of wonder in 2024 😊
Looking like a really nice device and Retro Games have done great providing good documentation and resources. I really like what they have been doing for something like 8 years or so now. People who used to use these devices, missed out at the time or born later can experience what the early days of computing and consoles were like with really nice replicas. It’s emulation, but it gives you the experience at a decent price. Nice to see another British company doing some good things in the retro scene.
The other mini micros that have been released from the same company all include the ability to program with basic, but you need a usb keyboard for them as the built-in digital one is very awkward to use so this spectrum one is definitely an upgrade coming with a fully functional keyboard 👍
Thanks for mentioning the accepted file types. Good to know TZX is accepted along with TAP as I've already prepared a folder loaded with hundreds of TAP and TZX roms.
Anyone never playing spectrum games before , on keyboard. In all games (nearly) ull see program own keys (redefine keys) select this then choose the following .... Q=up ,A=down, i or o = left, p= right , space = fire.. Your welcome. 😊
@05:44 Awesome! You might remember me saying the Amiga pad should work, and to get in there early for that special coloured one. 😉 Just hope Amazon actually get stock unlike some other harware company we know... Nice one Crazy, thanks for that!
Just in case you've not seen the weather reports, Snow & Ice coming your way. Give that Speccy a chance to warm to room temperature before switching on. 👍
Has anyone else tried to download the retrogames_usbstick_16gb image file, only to be told it's 'corrupted' when you try to 'extract all?' (same goes for the 8gb version).
Got a question for this wonderful community from an excited 51 yr old speccy. I just received mine today, but no ring bound manual ? Was expecting a manual. If anyone has a link to getting one ? Thank you and...what a wonderful day to be alive. Im 10 years old again
Thanks, is there any advantage of writing the image to the USB stick instead of just formating it in Fat 32? I am also a litle puzzled of why there are diferent versions of the image depending on the size of the USB stick. I mean what is the diference of the 32gb image in comparasion with the 4gb one? (i am assuming that the number of games you can put in it is related to the usb Stick size & not at all to the image size )
Thanks for this video. Been following the journey. I’ve prepped my stick following your instruction. Why did it take so long if the prepped stick is blank? Are there hidden folders? I’ve got a file ready full of TZx files and can’t wait to get mine
Looking forward to this! I also preordered the gamepad that’s being released for it also! I watched an unboxing video last night, the keyboard, the guy peeled protective film off the keyboard! I wonder in the plate is metal like the original spectrum?
@ I must admit, I was a bit shocked when I watched the video, I was only looking for for anything about The Spectrum, was pretty shocked that they sent him a freebie when he has such a low subscriber rate? Hi. I have previously ensured my usb stick is correctly formatted with fat 32 +mbr with sd card formatter tool. Used this on my c64/amiga mini. Always worked. Will this be sufficient, rather than flashing stick myself? I understand so long as it's fat 32 with mbr it's OK. Only takes a few minutes. What do you think?
@@CrazyBurger Thanks for the prompt reply. I noticed on the Amiga mini Retrogames info that the format stick info has changed with the same guidelines as the new The Spectrum usb stick info. Using the aforementioned SD Formatter always formats FAT 32B with MBR. The Amiga mini and C64 always detects USB stick. I suspect the new pcs don't format 32. I'll keep fingers crossed. It'll save a lot of time. Thanks again.
Not sure any specs have been revealed on the website but this machine is likely just a SBC and running emulation software. This is how all of the companies previous devices have been. Nothing wrong with good emulation. Some dislike it but I think it’s the way to go most of the time as it’s cheap and convenient. If this was an FPGA based machine it would likely cost a lot more.
As an original Spectrum owner in the 80’s I prefer to watch the whole game loading instead of an instant load….and hope there will even be the occasional R tape loading error to make the piracy on my d90 cassette full of games seem realer. ahhhh the memories 🥲
Does that mean you'll be wanting a dummy cassette deck so you can turn the volume down slowly try by try, then once finding the volume that works you will use your tipex to make two marks one on side of tape player the other on the volume dial?? 😂😂😂 good til u need more than one line and start forgetting which is which and run out of room on the dial...😂😂😂

Totally agree, with just downloads space won't be an issue. So indie devs can push the envelope even more. Long live the Speccy:)

i or o = left , p= right , space = fire.
Got mine pre ordered, going back to how it all started with me many moons ago, the 48k Speccy.
Great stuff! Just ordered an 8GB usb stick (cheapest branded one) and will get that all done tomorrow in preparation for Friday :-)
This looks much better than many of the retro-mini systems as it has the full functionality, including Basic and stuff. Very interesting.

You're right about the minis. On the full size front, The C64 Maxi and The VIC20 both contain fully functional keyboards

@@Nockalates lol plenty like you. Me being one. Not quite 48 though. I'm much younger at 47 😆
48 years here too, from Ireland.. this was my first computer (16k) apart from the TV "Sport" games console that everyone got (pong, tennis etc)

You can easily format a USB stick in Disk Management and make then any size you want. Takes like 2 minutes.

Google.

So there's no support for disk based images? Only tape?
Yes appears so. I'm sure they'll add it down the line if enough people ask.
A Shame you cant speed up the cpu a little to give a smoother experience in 3d games like Driller, a lot of emulators normally support this.
Hi what Windows version you using please? Cause when I click right button there's no extract all option..thx
@@jasbo7288 Shouldn't matter which version. Just open the zip file and drag the file out.
It's actually easier to add tap and z80 files to the original zx spectrum with an SD interface
I've only got a 48k Spectrum (with an SD thingy) so I'm looking forward to playing 'new' 128k games.
