Hi Scotty, I have a 2007 RAV4 with that engine that burns oil. Also the rear axle is rusted, the exhaust pipe leaks, and there's oil stains in the front of the engine which I think is a valve cover gasket issue. I was told I should sell this car before it becomes a bigger problem. Do you agree? It has 126,000 miles. Thank you for teaching us so much!!
When ever. Your engine is burning oil replace the valve seal rubber Caps... it's a lot of work..

I'd rather have a Camry burning oil than a car that has major maintenance. Burning oil with 300k miles sounds like a good car to me... Most cars are in the scrapyard by 200k miles

I'm glad to hear your opinion. I have an oil burner 2008. But she's at 270k & still runs pretty strong. Now the cat converter, I've been putting that off for a while now. Might wanna get it done soon.

The issue is usa forcing toyota to use different piston rings for the 2azfe after '06 not before.
Rebuilt our 2008 2.4L Toyota engine at 175,000 miles. Now at 242,000 miles it hasn't burned a drop since and will probably go to 400,000 miles.

I got a 2002 Camry, automatic with the original 2az engine with over 300k made in kentucky, I changed the oil every 3k miles and it only burns a quart every oil change. I also have a 2003 Camry, manual with the original engine with just over 200k miles made in Japan, it burns 1 quart per thousand mile. The previous 2 owners were awful at changing the oil. I learned through experience, regular maintenance can also slow down the use of oil consumption in these Toyotas because regardless of their oil consumption, they are well built cars.

I bought a 2007 Toyota Camry with an engine that was built with single o-ring pistons instead of double which caused Toyota to do an "enhanced warranty inspection" or something like that..and sadly this engine was one of them in that class...but it ended in 2016 unfortunately and I bought the car in 2020...so I guess I am screwed...do you have any info that could help me do a little research?
@@beautifullimade32 there was a class action lawsuit against toyota for this engine unfortunately you did get screwed over when you bought the car as it was only a limited service campaign. Note for folks as i own one. Look for a puff of blue smoke on startup, valve stem seals are common to go out above 100k, it should go away as the car warms up. Rings of course get stuck and they will consume oil. All things considered if you have a moderate consumption of oil, say 1-2 quarts every 2500 miles but are looking for an economy car ( they tend to get anywhere from 22-30mpg ) and you save more than 3mpg over your previous daily, its cost effective to just fill it up with some oil as it burns. Biggest thing on these cars is not purchasing a downpipe if the flex pipe goes bad. autozone supplies the proper universal length flex piece and can cheaply be welded in. say $100 instead of $1300 for a whole downpipe.
i feel like 1 quart in 3500 is within factory spec on my hondoo lmaoooooo
Alot people have this problem puff of smoke after car sits over nignt should i be worried heard people deive it like that for years
@@kelseyrainwater3918 the small puff is completely fine, usually residual oil in the motor leaks down just enough into the combustion chamber that it burns a little oil until everything warms and expands due to heat. So long as it doesnt always smoke with a blue tinge while driving its usually ok, just check fluids regularly. Deep black smoke/ grey is a rich motor ( too much fuel ) , a thick white cloud like smoke ( i mean thick ) can be coolant, and usually blue tinted smoke is oil being burned.
