End of the project group evaluations:
-Guy who does most or all the work scores everyone else equally
-Guy who doesn't show up gives everyone top scores
-Guy who did a moderate amount of work gives everyone low scores
-Guy who presented and answered the most bullshit questions in the most dodging ways doesn't score at all

This is really how group projects go:
    1) A group is formed
    2) You each decide which parts each of you will do
    3) You do your part
    4) The group says they'll do their part later but they never do it
    5) You are stuck doing everyone's part because they won't do it and you would've been better off doing it alone
So basically, a group project is an individual project with a few other people taking most of the credit for something they had no part in

    • @NubeBuster
      @NubeBuster 7 лет назад +289

      3) one of the members doesn't quite understand what to do.

The actual 5 stages of a group project are
    1. Denial (“This isn’t going to be like last time”)
    2. Anger (“Why isn’t anyone else doing anything?”)
    3. Bargaining (“Well at least I can still get a passing grade”)
    4. Depression (“This is due tomorrow and we barely have anything”)
    5. Acceptance (“I am definitely going to fail and I’m fine with that”)

I once had an engineering group project where we had to build a little device that could transport a golf ball up a ramp and shoot it over a wall. I was in charge of the manufacturing and was kind of waiting on the design and materials stage to be completed before I could take over with my part.
Finally when I got the all clear it was the night before we had to test the devices performance (which I was totally fine with). I had it all worked out, I had all the tools and materials ready to go (It was quite a solid design with pvc, aluminium, springs etc.).
It got to about 11pm at night and one of the group members (a crazy control freak chick) starts private messaging me outside the group chat, saying that she thinks I won't finish in time and will do a crap job. I then sent her a video response of the little device working perfectly, rolling along my floor and shooting the ball. She said it was crap and asked for my address to come pick it up so that she could work on it overnight.
I got fed up with all her messages so gave her my address and left it outside my front door, then went to bed. So she comes over to my house at around 1am, turns out she didn't have a car and lived far away. She had caught the train with her mum and walked a few kilometres to my house... wtf
So the next day we are waiting at uni to do our test run for the assignment and my teammates are grilling me as to why I gave it to this crazy chick. She finally rocks up with a super big grin on her face, and dumps this bag of shit onto the workbench. It's literally a heap of toilet paper rolls held together with string and sticky tape...completely different to my working model (which she had disassembled in the process of building her abstract art piece). It honestly looked like a pre-school toddler had put it together for a mothers day gift or something.
Btw this video was funny af!! Love your work man. :)

    1) throw away everyone else's half assed attempts at work/research
    2) if you have foreign people in your group just smile and say yes and ok a lot
    3) if you have a presentation, give each member a script and tell them learn/read it
    4) don't be surprised when you barely get a thank you at the end

We had to explain how it worked and stuff too, but my team was always fighting and couldn't decide on anything. So I left the team and ask my teach if I could work by myself, he said no. I did it anyways cuz I really didn't want to work with them. On the day that we're turning it in, one of my friends shows up after being absent for a week (Before the project even started), that's when I saw an opportunity. I gave half the credit to him and he finished up the last thing that I completely forgot to do (Got lucky there). When I turned it in my teach asked if I did this by myself, I grew stiff but said no and told him that me and my friend worked at home (I don't even know where he lives). Glad to say we got a higher score than the other team.

Once I realized was going to lose points I asked a couple of deadbeats to join my group (even though I had finished the project). I was literally going to write their names in marker wherever necessary and wasn't even going to mention to the teacher they did nothing. Except being the deadbeats they were for whatever reason this was somewhat of an insult to their integrity and they said (with literally an hour till due) that they were going to pull something off, and didn't need my help. I was dumbfounded.
Conclusion: I got full points for content and lost marks for communications. They dropped out shortly after - however I don't think this project would have affected their decisions on that front.

This hits so close to home as I had to deal with this for one of my uni projects. Once I put myself as leader because no one else wanted to and organised the group chat and stuff it eventually turned into me doing all the work. All I learnt was to never depend on other people.

In group work, I’m usually the brains of it all, and work out a model that plays to their strengths and weaknesses. I give the artsy kid illustrations, the not so smart kids get less of the project to do, smarter kids get more parts, and I usually either give myself the usual work for one of the smart kids and also the extra pieces if the parts don’t divide evenly. I typically try to get things done a few days in advance, so that I can go over everything and correct what mistakes that there are. In the end, there’s so much that needs to be corrected that I end up with like 60% of the work, if not all.

I did not expect a Casually Explained video, from three and a half years ago, to actually sum up a bachelor level, project management, theory on groupwork, in less than 4 minutes... I've spent hours studying for that.

@@ha2kon539 I graduated 3 years ago! The professor gave us an extra semester extension in which we used the last 3 weeks to cram in and finish the project. All in all worked out for the best and I'm happy to announce that I haven't talked to my teammates since!

When most of your lecturer alr knows these types of people exist, so they allow you to report on which member isnt active and also adding bonus points to your project (because you did it alone). But then some people will be struck with the guilt of "friendship" that they dont tell the lecturers that their partner didnt do their job properly/at all.

in my 7 man college communications group I had 6 no shows. Since I couldn't get in a new group u had to do the assignment myself, 7 peoples jobs which was probably 4 people's work. I then got a B because I didn't give my group credit for the work they didn't do.
