This is my rendition of the great Stevie Ray Vaughan's song, Pride and Joy... done on a toy guitar at walmart at 3 in the morning.
This is legit proof that it’s 90% the talent and 10% the instrument.
I would think that would take the equation in the other direction, like 95/5.
It’s the Indian not the bow
@@Padlock_Steve When you practice.. you develop skills or talents. Mind b.l.o.w.n! I know..
WHAT DO YOU MEEEEANNN THE GUITAR IS AMAZING
Not talent, practice, determination and hard work
the true master can make art with any brush
is that a direct quote from someone, or a saying?
La cena ive heard that saying before. also "a true craftsman never blames his tools"
Cool quote
I finally have my wife convinced that I need a decent strat to really learn more guitar. she can't see this...
hahahaha!!!
Jed Fehrenbach I'm trying to convince my wife an American Standard is worth the price...I feel you.
You made me laugh loud bro. Peace.
Just convinced my gf to let me get a prs even though her car just broke down lol
Ahahahaah True!
The only time I will ever forgive vertical video. It's that damn awesome.
That guitar is so psyched. It never expected to be played like that--the most it could look forward to was to be given as a gift to a small child, never tuned and eventually be used as a weapon amidst a toy-strewn sibling battleground. This guitar, though, won the lottery and achieved a moment only dreamed of by cheap plastic Wal-Mart guitars.
jjdubuyou1976 Woah, I was also thinking about how the guitar felt and I was hoping that doesn't make me weird haha
Yes, just yes :)
I'm
jjdubuyou1976 You are aware it's an inanimate object?
Wow, that read like a heart warming, coming of age movie script. "From the shelf of mass production to self of great potential, an ordinary children's guitar becomes extraordinary".
You doing that on a Cars Wal Mart guitar with that legit voice was insanely impressive!!! Keep up the good shit man, you have more than enough skill to go places with that talent.
I say GODDAMN that's good.
bakerXderek ehhhhhh! baker derek!
bakerXderek Why are you everywhere, cheaaaa
bakerXderek admiring someones talent is more of an isult to a musician... I take it you probably do not realize theres many hours of practice behind this?
***** .....shut up.
No one implied that he could naturally pick up and do this without practice. Dumb ponce.
9 years later I’m still jamming to this at full volume! And sharing it like crazy. Y’all rock!!!
Me 🎉 too 😆 👍
Oh dear I didn’t look at the date!! Wow.
The guitar I bought from Walmart must have been broken....
Yeah you got shafted bro
That was legitimately impressive, especially considering how cheaply those guitars are made. I'm honestly surprised it stayed in tune that long. Awesome job guys.
I'm surprised they can do that, but can't record sideways
Ronald Archun This should be the #1 comment.
Ronald Archun It's about the song, the soul, the performance. None of which have anything to do with the camera angle. People need to chill the fuck out.
Paul Walker Learn to figure out jokes when you read them, old chap.
mattbellamymate it would be easy to recognize if it were funny
Thank y'all so much for the warm words!! I'm glad y'all dig it. Had I known this goofy thing woulda been seen so many times, I woulda sang full voice. But, we decided it'd probably be best not to draw too much attention..
Ha. Ha.. 😳
Hello world!
www.clayshelburn.com
Clay Shelburn You got a bit of a bump from 9gag. They had this video on their site.
I think this way turned out better. Its fucking good
Clay Shelburn killer chops on a toy guitar that holds up, this made my day!
Clay Shelburn Walmart taken to a whole new level! I would consider buying cheap shit there if you guys were on the daily entertainment programme! Cheers from Thailand! Still no Walmarts here!
Clay Shelburn Even with the way you sang, one can tell you have a kick-ass voice. Rock on /,,/.
Dude, you are a true blues guitarist to be able to shred like that on a toy axe. I'm a huge fan, you got a killer voice and chops to match.
+Jeff K thank you! I appreciate the love.
toy axe 😂
I hope Clay gets to read this... I am 74, daughter of a guitar player that was taught by her Dad. He was self taught. I remember him letting me play his big records carefully on a wind up victrola... I remember one of the names was Robert Johnson.. the other was Jimmie Rogers, the Blue Yodler... the records are long gone they were 78 and breakable. I held Robert Johnson's work in my hands. wow. Grandpa lived long enough for my mother to play banjo, mandolin, and harmonica. She did so good. Clay your playing lifted my heart and I again was able to enjoy blues as I learned them before I could walk. Thank you and I sure hope someone like Willie or Merle or even Barry Gibb, who may be interested in your talent. thank you guys for the sweet memories ... Karen
Karen Aria Wilson thank you for the sweet words! I appreciate the love.
Your a good karen thank you
Based Karen. I hope now that you’re 79 you’re still doing well.
Robert Johnson is amazing
You shred it, you buy it!
Thank you so much! i really appreciate that you shared the video. I sure woulda sang full voice if I knew this goofy video was gonna blow up. Lesson learned. Haha I will certainly let you know if we do more!
Clay Shelburn ' video was gonna blow up' im looking at 3100 views right now and i have a feeling the next 24 hours youre going to have to redefine 'blow up'
Clay Shelburn so... did yah buy the guitar? :)
Moe Loubani Wil Wheaton just tweeted the link so, INCOMIIING!
Clay Shelburn Kickass video, dudes.
Clay Shelburn It's all good, part of the moment.
This performance does not get old to me... you two are crazy awesome.
C
I agree
8 years later and this is still fire 🔥🔥🔥
13 gauge strings on that bad boy ?
I never thought a toy guitar could actually sound that good. I guess I gotta pick one of those up for my self and respray it xD
+Josh Nuestro haha thanks. I got my luthier to put a pickup and volume knob on mine.
+Josh Nuestro The biggest limiting factor tends to be the machine heads. You can tune it, but even in this you can hear it's already going out of tune by the second solo.
+FastEddy95 Yep, both my kids got one from their uncle last Christmas and they won't hold a tune for more than a minute or so.
Sometimes the intonation sucks balls. Thmath the beetleth! Thmath'em!
its all in the hands
I think the greatest thing about this video is the spontaneity of it, just happened to see the guitar and decide to jam it out. People get really caught up in making something perfect, doing it properly and editing out any flaws that could 'ruin' the song but having fun and just letting the muse flow is where the heart of art is. Much love, Mr. Shelburn.
one of the best pride and joy covers i've ever listened so far. that shuffle is so on point.
He couldn’t have played it more perfect than what he just did ! Holy crap this dude nailed it from start to finish
Nice jobs for baby grandpas gee-tars. Metal.
Haha! Grandspas guitars!
Mike Zilla Metalocalypse?
Hes really unzbozzles the airs to make grandpa guitars not sounds like dildos.
Mike Zilla Ka Ka Karrot Cake
Mike Zilla stops copies me
These guys sound better together with that cheap Walmart guitar than most of the junk you hear today on pop radio stations produced by so called music stars singing with there digitally enhanced voices.
I agree.
Yes I agree with you and Justin beiber is a fine example
Totally❤
It's all in the hands. It's all in the soul. Gear doesn't matter.
The ratio of likes to views on this is astounding.
Geoff Davis Not to mention impossible
Alex Zhou mine shows 3105 views with 2k likes.... Definitely possible. But it's probably still not registering right yet.
Geoff Davis 3130 views with 3744 likes here lol
Bicurious George Yup
Geoff Davis the real views is in the 10s of thousands, youtube takes a few hours to process large amounts of views
I always come back to this video! I remember I first saw this video on Facebook when I was 15, I’m 22 now! This was my first ever saved video on Facebook hahahaha. Beautiful voices and talent the both of you ❤️
Found this in my bookmarks, still one of my favorite videos on the entire Internet
Time for a WalMart World tour. That was fun....Thanks for the video.
Hard to believe this was from a toy guitar!! Sounds amazing for sure!!! That's pure talent don't care what anybody says!!
Well done, boys! Stevie Ray is no doubt smiling somewhere in Rock & Roll heaven.
Forever and ever this bit of history will rock in the halls of legend.
who ever said nothing good happens after 2am was sorely mistaken. This is great!! Thank you for sharing this.
You are a natural performer! I mean both of you...you have brightened my morning and I thank you for it!
I love spontaneous displays of genuine, awesome music! This should be done by more people! Thanks for sharing and good luck with what is sure to be a fantastic music career!
This popped in my head tonight while I was picking my guitar. Had to come back and watch it after all these years. I hope those dudes are doing great he is one hell of a guitar player and I hope he is making a living at it! Both have great voices as well.!
You really blew my mind.. that's the best version of this song... And you made me realize that I don't use more slides when I play the blues... And to play one of the best blues on that kind of guitar is awesome...
Holy shit this was awesome!
Hey y'all! My new single "Dance With Me" went live today on iTunes and Google Play!!! I. Hope y'all will go get it and give it a listen. Thank y'all so much! Much love.

+Clay Shelburn Thanks so much. The first time i saw you play this crappy guitar, i picked up my crappy guitar ( At the time ) And gave it a try. because of you i am who i am today. i may be 12 but im playing gigs every friday night with my Martin 000 28!
idalina faversani, do you need an ambulance?.. sucks cuz it's 10 months ago.... .....
Love LOVE this guy!! Both of their voices have a dirty grit to them, which is my fav type of voice. Love that he tested out the Walmart guitar...I am a huge fan!
Still love listening to this! So cool
all I can think of is : IF YOU BREAK IT YOU BUY IT!" That is too funny and really brought a smile to my face. That guitar never thought it would played like that.
How in the actual fuck is this possible? Cool voices on both of you too.
I keep coming back to this. Absolutely brilliant!
You both have no idea how your music has helped me thru some tough stuff. keep up the magic...ROCK ON... #cancersucks #imasurvivor

Warren Ripley +1 for the avatar
Been coming back to this for 5 years and i still grin when i see it
I smiled all the way through this. Thank you!
Years later, this is still the best version of this song I’ve ever heard....
That’s quite a compliment! Thank you.
@@clayshelburn you’re very welcome, you have a great voice
I never thought I would have to type "pride and joy walmart" in the RUclips search box but here I am.
I saw this video a few times ages ago. Pride and Joy was just on a show I watched and I spent two hours trying to remember where I’d seen it performed before. Thankfully I found it!
I wish I was your friend, with a fraction of the talent. This just made my heart so happy. Keep the music alive!!
Still come back to watch this video every now and then, years later. You guys sound so good!
EDIT: Oh damn and I just looked on Spotify and you have an album there. Can't wait to listen to that!
Thank you so much! I appreciate you!
I really enjoyed your album as well! I hope there's more to come in the future!
I’m working on new stuff. Photo shoot, single, tiktok, new Facebook page.. the works.
@@clayshelburn Can't wait dude! Be well!
So it's all about the talent, the skill ... not the instrument quality or how much it costs :)
Loved it :)
Best part is how much fun you're having. Just awesome !
This is the only one video I wanna watch over and over again
Wow you are awesome and have great skills on the guitar.
You've got to love this system... a couple of guys that you might easily dismiss because they work at your local Walmart got more talent than 90% of the BS so called music Stars they so eagerly flush down our throats & call them talent.
So much wasted out there it's sad... you guys should be real Stars, you got the voice, the guitar style & charisma... Fuck the system that wastes the most precious of all natural resources: Humans!
Thank you! You guys are beautiful & made my day! Keep on rocking!
Incertus Veritas How do you know they work at Wal-mart, and are not just shopping there?
Also, in regards to your comment "Fuck the system that wastes the most precious of all natural resources: Humans!" - You sir are an idiot. Jeeze, fucking liberals.
Seriously, enough with the wordsmith posturing. You sound like you are trying to hard, saying look at me. On your point with me being happy the way the world is, you are wrong. I hate where the world is going, because of people like you. Ones that think you must flaunt your progressiveness at every turn. Progressives and liberals alike who do not use common sense or logic, and have this skewed world view.
With all of that aside, as you never did answer my question(Like a good little liberal), how do you know they work at Wal-mart? Keyword being "work".
joezo There's nothing "skewed" about seen the world as it is. Do you find our world "perfect"? This system is the best we can do? Wasting human lives so a few others can live is a "skewed" ideology to me.
I have no idea they work at Walmart; (they probably do or not) but that's not the main issue here as there are hundreds of thousands of people in the US & millions around the world that have real talent (in science, art, etc.) wasted in meaningless places, working shitty jobs, living & dying undiscovered to a world that just doesn't give a fuck about them or mankind... That's the facts for you & the main thing is that your kind, the ones who defend this system & accept it's inadequacies are the ones to blame.
I'm not a liberal, I'm an Anarchist that is far worst to your type of conservative O'Reilly, Fucked News zombies.
You say "I hate where the world is going"...
What would you do to fix it?...
If you only knew what I do for a living you would be surprised; to give you a small hint, I "try" to heal the victims this system leaves behind... all over the world.
Incertus Veritas
Humans are the fundamental problem, not the system.
joezo Uhhhh... I do believe it's the far-right who are normally saying "Fuck the system...", not liberals. Liberals are always being accused of 'loving' the 'system'.
Everytime I see this I have to watch. I must be in the 200's. Love it!! You guys rock
Dang, that was sweet. Mr Shelburn, you’ve great talent & chops. I’ll be looking & listening for you! Mr. Stokes has pipes & right there in the pocket with you. Never thought I’d hear killer music from inside a Walmart & using a wee toy guitar to boot! Ace! Thank you. Thank you both!

No Holds Barred
2019 anyone? Ps. This is inspiring.
You guys made my day!!! God bless you both.Keep rockin' boys
I never, ever get tired of watching this. Easily my favorite video on RUclips. Thanks for sharing this!
Walmart should use this to market their shitty guitars. Look what can be done with real talent.
Awesome job. You killed it.
There's also a new video going up today to address all these comments and questions, thanks again for the love y'all!
we need more people like you guys in the world
Every few years I have to come back and watch this video.
I seriously love this. You guys are fucking awesome.
+Smells Like E Minor thanks!

Awesome video, thank you for posting your video !!!! You guys have the funk.....keep rocking!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome dudes. What's with all the haters about vertical video. Mellow down easy people. These guys have it down. Cool.
At Wal Mart with a toy guitar.....amazing.
HOLD THE PHONE SIDEWAYS WHEN VIDEOING THINGS. IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE.
fullmoonwolf95 Ya this yiffyiff furry doesn't want to miss gazing at the toy section of a walmart.
fullmoonwolf95 He is videoing one person who fits the screen, why would he turn it sideways?
fullmoonwolf95 more butthurt.
Riley Webb Because our televisions aren't shaped like a fucking phone?
Riley Webb The majority of the video is his left hand OR his face and at no point does he fit the screen
This is crazy awesome! My first time watching it today.
Damn baby! Stevie Ray would be proud!
Clay Shelburn, So I noticed you have 6 million views on youtube , but someone else has posted you on Facebook and that video has near 19 million views . BUT has no mention of who you are . You should see if you can tag your name to it , it will help your viewership on your other video's
