Sensation! And it was. I'm enjoying the full tackling & players get up & play on, or go off! and Steve Perryman still playing, amazing football time traveller. Enjoyed that, no faff & Jimmy Hill short & sweet & to the point, unlike now.
@@richardsharpe2966 i didn't know that people from Sunderland were called Mackems. It was mentioned in my Jordan Henderson books (Hendo is one of my favourite Liverpool players)
I went to that game. A late goal gave West Ham a 1-0 win in a tight game. Charlton played well that day. I remember the pitch was awful at Selhurst back then.
@@veronicaward2715 I was at that game, the TV footage didn't show the full story, Robson was trying to get back to his feet while Venison was holding him down , Jimmy hill's 1940s outdated view on Robson role in the incident, every player on that pitch deserved impartial treatment from the referee including Robson, being England captain shouldn't of matter , Robson was quilty of being passionate
Can't agree, Jimmy Hill explained it, Robbo was a bit over zealous & he kicked Venison. He's the England Captain. Bobby Charlton is the role model he should be.
Definitely 3 o'clock kick off in late January I was at that game and it was almost dark when we were leaving, the open ends of football grounds might of helped letting in a few more minutes of light,
I'm a Tottenham fan and supporter - but I loved Man City's shirt that season
Same template as Glasgow Rangers kit. The first one with glazing firm CR SMITH as sponsors.

00:57 That idiot Jimmy Hill refers to the Roker Park crowd as Geordie enthusiasm.
They were referred to as Geordies back then as well as Newcastle. Mackem is a more recent term.
Man city's atmosphere was 1 million times better than today and the ground was only half full .
Man City was a proper club once.
Every atmosphere was a million times better dimwit. This is before seating was compulsory,
I like the phone signal sound early on on the video ! Oh nostalgia, wish united had Bryan Robson now...... Great video mate 👍 nice one
Yes this is a great find, remember watching this at the time, roker Park in that wind, wonderful
0:57, Jimmy referring to Sunderland as a “cauldron of Geordie enthusiasm”.
I’m not from the NE, but aren’t Newcastle Geordies?
Sunderland people are Wearsiders or Mackhams Sarah my partner's mother is from Sunderland
@@richardsharpe2966 Thanks for the clarification 👏

Rob hindmarch Rip class player 🌟
The first tv footage of the 1985/86 season was shown on the previous round. Charlton v West Ham at Selhurst Park.
ITV showed highlights of Grimsby v Arsenal and Portsmouth v Aston Villa the night before

@@inspireyou2396 a goal by Tony Cottee if I remember rightly.
hey mr.kipling,happy new year
The noise is so different to todays
Leading the show with a 0-0, you wouldn't get that these days!
Political correctness gone mad I say.
44.43 That elbow by the Spurs player!
The golden age of the mullet.
The Sunderland match wow. As was most games around that time . Truly shocking refereeing.
Blatant red kicked Venison

my 18th birthday lol
did these games kick off early? wonder why its still daylight at full time in January
Good point, never thought of that. It's certainly the right date so I'm not sure to be honest.
Sunderland sunset be about 16.30, this was a 3pm k.o. but don't forget 10 mins ht then, plus no injury time, matches used to end at 16.40 back then.
@@Gjadgamer the cameras also make it look lighter than it is, like Wimbledon at 10pm looks bright but it's much darker in reality.

Messi was born 2 yrs later..
Terrible decision against Notts County. Absolutely nothing wrong with what should've been a second goal and probably winner for them.
Ian Wallace omg Cloughie paid £1M for that duffer!
I was a ball-boy for the Notts v Spurs game (just in front of the spurs fans) 😂 Notts were robbed.
Geordies…lol
