The record Ashes crowd in Wigan was set at Central Park during the 1959-60 Kangaroo Tour. That day (12 December 1959) some 26,089 were on hand to see Great Britain defeat Australia 18-12 in the 3rd and deciding test to win The Ashes for the last time to date on home soil. This game saw the record Ashes attendance at the new stadium (then JJB Stadium) with 25,011.
This was the first Ashes Test in Wigan since the 3rd test of the 1986 series at Central Park, though it wasn't the longest wait Wigan had between Ashes tests. The record is so far 19 years (1959-1978 and 2003-present).
Have a look at the 1982 Australian team. Only Johns and Lockyer would be a certainty to make it. Maybe Lockyer at fullback, Fittler might just squeak in at centre. Hardly conceded a try let alone being in danger of losing a match.
AhhHH the PENALTY count...it was like Harrigan was the British 14th player...BUT...why was this so?? If some one could do a semi doco blog on this it might prove interesting?
Typical poms, at about the 1:26:36 mark still putting in the dirty play, just a little sly punch in the tackle what a bunch of grubs ! Maybe, just maybe if they put as much work into playing Rugby League as they do into whingeing and grubby play they may win the Ashes back ? Commentators are a joke !
Rugby league is a northern sport, its meant to be played hard. If you don't like it invent your own sport instead of leeching off ours and then complaining about it.
@@kizjay2730 well piss off and play that then. Rugby leagues greatest mistake was trying to expand to other countries/regions. Should have stayed in the North of England where it belongs.
The perfect Aussies you never play dirty joke, and your commentators aren’t biased they take the piss, example Andrew Voss mocking Antony Sullivan 1999 your playing the wrong game Mate. So get your facts right boy, you never lose so stop crying. Your boys need humbling. The rulers of Sport. Not boxing though you get smashed and i love it👍🏻
Great test series Shaun, cheers.

Look at the names on display here. Senior, Lockyer, Kennedy, Johns, Farrell, Wellens, Budurus, McDermott, Fittler, Sculthorpe, Connolly, McDougal. Incredible.

That commentator "Eddie"... wow. Hope he didn't drive to the game, being so one eyed means you have no depth perception.
