Many thanks to you Shaun for all these great videos of classic league games. What a great solace for an old Aussie codger trying to stay out of harm's way for the last 2 years. Please keep the drip-feed going..... Much appreciated
Cheers, Shaun. I've had a great dose of RL today! Looking forward to tonight's match, and a day at Warrington for the Armed Forces Day Rugby League tomorrow.
at 28..39 with the commentators whinging about the ball going out off Maningas hand I think they missed the fact that after Maninga touched it, the ball touched the British player again BEFORE going out ofc HIM!
Rugby league was so much better then.props were props, half backs were half backs and wingers were wingers. Now they are all identical with no specialities.
Commentator: "I don't think these Rugby Union coaches will be any wiser than us if we don't score a try!" I just don't know what made him think they had come to watch Britain!
Good to see a few of these old videos, I'd forgotten how much of a grub Shawn Edwards was. One of those brilliant players that resort to grubby play way too often.
Harrigan certainly gave the British lots of latitude, swinging arms, fists, kicking, off side and with the ball stripping that he allowed them to do and not penalise.
strewth my ocker inbred. not see the hit by dean pay on shaun edwards there my old cobber? guess not, stay away from your sister there, don't want any accidents.
The last minute or play when the penalty given against Stuart....the commentators seem to forget......a player can stand his ground //they dont have to oblige an attacking player and move.....it should not have even been a penalty with that rule!
mear the end when Stuart was said to obstruct the rules are clear, you DO NOT have to clear your way for the oppossition, this was not an obstruction according to the rules
Same story as usual. We produce tough hard forwards who usually dominate the pack and are as good/slightly better than the Aussies. The issue is the backs weren't and still aren't anywhere near there level. I think in the last 30 years we have produced about two backs who might have got in there squad. Most would have have been nowhere near.
@@harryhatter2962 oh piss off you nob there has been countless times through out history where our forwards have been better. The last world cup final being an example. This has been the same since story since the 50s 60's and 70's our forwards are usually harder and meaner probably due to having more of a working class background to the aussie players. The problem has always been the backs are nowhere near (and never have been) as good. The thing is as aggression has been taken more and more out of the game the backs have had a much bigger influence since the 80's.
I hear this so often by Brit’s trying to save some face & it just doesn’t ring true, if it were the case you’d have won more games, the English forwards may have been more reckless but the Aussie forwards just concentrated on their jobs, not giving penalties away trying to kill their opponents
GB just didn't have any flair. All by the numbers stuff in attack, crabbing sideways and predictable. The Kangaroos just had a touch of class that made all the difference: Stuart, Fittler and Daley could all step, pass, kick, run and create. GB tactic was get it to Offish in space and hope he goes the length.
1=25=48 commentator says tremendous effort from Britain????? they had ALL the ball and could not resister a try and on the score board the Australians obliterated them...how is that a tremenous effort|??????????????????????????????
Tremendous effort by Gt Britain? For every 10 minutes they had the ball for 7 and a half minutes! How is that a tremendous effort..to LOOSE with that stat?.....HOW?
Bloody Poms even the ref letn them play Dirty and the Australians as the Professionals they are Play the game better than any other Country in the world
50-46 commentator says.."this is what test match rugby is all about" it IS not about 80% possession to one side and only 20% to the other side.....that is NOT what it is all about at all!
England have always had some quality, talented players but rarely match the fitness of Australian squads. High level match fitness is usually the difference.. And English commentators can be relied upon to miss the niggly low blows of their own players but spot any Australian transgression just fine..
The Brit replacements were as good as if not better than the starting guys so the commentary about them being in trub with this is not only degrading to the replacements but just not true
qt 1-06 mad biased commentator says "every that is best about test rugby:....heck any one notice that at the half way level of the 2nd half the British had had the ball for 8 minutes out of every 10 minutes? Penalty agains Dean Pay Ilisten to the commentators say if play had went on etc....well play DID go on and the Australians GOT the ball....only then was play held up ..so the comments were ridiculous and as to the penalty itslef an examination would show that YOU could not have pulled out of this tackle and indeed the comments about Paul New love tackling Mal Meninga,,,,he had his back turned and had ALSO passed the ball before he was hit..no sound from the commentators except,,,, Maninga was tackled well by Newlove and he didnt like that...so I guess.....ohohohohohohohoho! where was the linie then?
it was a disgusting game of rugby league, the British had all the possession, it was entirely lop sided and they could not do any thng with it ..not a great game at all.
This pommy commentator is a complete one eyed pommy dill ? It is no wonder the poms have such a bad name in sport, if their commentators are bad sports as well ?
Yep such a bad name in all the sports we created... I'll say to you here what I said to you in the comments on another match. If you don't like the way we play/commentate, piss off and start your own sport.

Thanks very much Shaun, with this isolation happening and no games being played it was a great substitute.
Stuart’s got a great big left and right cutout pass. Mullins electric and Daley dangerous. Great game
Brasher was better but Mullins did have 1 good year in 94 yes. Stuart was far better than Langer as well. Roos didn't lose many with Stuart there.
GB usually losing but enjoyed watching all these games. You forget sometimes how good Daley was
Who forgets how good Daley was, I certainly don't and I'm a QLD supporter
@@darylkanofski9327 yeah me neither. Good guy too, not tripping over his ego
Daley was a legend on and off the field!

50:10 Mal Meningas last game of rugby league after 15 years at the top level aged 34 and he swatted away Andy Farrell like he was a minor irritation.
They played a 1 off against France after this from memory
What a AWSOME team the Australians have champions all over the park 💪
Mal Meninga's last ever game on English soil.
at 28..39 with the commentators whinging about the ball going out off Maningas hand I think they missed the fact that after Maninga touched it, the ball touched the British player again BEFORE going out ofc HIM!
Amazing how entertaining rugby league was before the onset of Melbourne and wrestling tactics in the ruck. Thanks Bellamy.
Totally agree
Rugby league was so much better then.props were props, half backs were half backs and wingers were wingers. Now they are all identical with no specialities.
Just before the 70 min mark of the game… with GB needing a try to get back into the hunt… they give Stevie a look at the line! 17 - 4 Ashes lost!
LEE'S tackling "technique?" around the head?
Commentator: "I don't think these Rugby Union coaches will be any wiser than us if we don't score a try!"

"Against the run of p;au" hahahaha these /THIS commentator is humorous.

all kinds of filth went on in them days - high shots, gouges, elbows, rakes etc - standard stuff!
they had the 3rd greatest try scorer of all time and they failed to use him in the first two tests
After the 1st game, lots of people wanted Mal replaced
ray french commentary - classic stuff. 'he's a tough lad but that's still got to hurt joe' - lol
Ray French best RL commentator 👍🏻
I love when they mention a wing has pace, arent the wings meant to be the fastest players in a team?
What an embarrassing performance by "Great" Britain considering the overwhelming possession they had.
Thanks Shaun!

was the tackle on Edwards revenge for the first test?
lol, Brad Fittler spraying a photographer with his water bottle and then trying to hide it behind his back at 1:33:09
Stuart was incredible
Do you have full replays of the 2003 Ashes series?
Yes..Will add them to my channel over the next few days.
A "little bit high?" when its a stiff arm around the nose?
At 1:19.00 around the middle of the head is a "little bit high." but it;s ok...the guy was frustrated.
RL in the early 90s was like it was played on speed.
Maybe they all were 🤔😂🤣

Not sure how it's a tremendpus effort from G/B when, with 4 ins left it is 23 to 4???
What a gun team 💪🏽💯🔥
Stuart did NOT step into Gouldings path at all and was allowed to hold his ground! It was GOULDING who barged into Stuart if you wanna have a look!
I looked at this AGAIN and absolutely have to agree with me.....
Honestly, taking the 2 points on the attack at 11-2 down! Worst decision ever.

Martin Offiah is the highest try scorer of the 6 tackle era
maybe in the UK but nowhere else and others in other countries were better!
maybe in the uk..he's not even mentioned in Australia
