    As always a well-done vid. Love your passion, it doesn't have to be a rare sports car or muscle car to be valued/appreciated. Couldn't agree with you more regarding going with the "OEM" transmission fluid or even engine coolant. Toyotas and Hondas seem to do much better when using OEM trans fluid. Definitely not the place to be penny-wise and pound foolish. A new transmission is not cheap.

    Job well done, and keep up with good work. Thank you for what you do and how you present it to the less experienced audience. On a note, I have been doing my own engine oil and transmission fluid changes for the last 18 yrs or so on all of my vehicles (mostly Japanese made but one American made as well). Sometimes with the OEM, sometimes with other available fluids that were compatible with the manufacturer's recommendations. I have used most of the oils/fluids and did not have issues with either. In my humble opinion, it seems better to service AT on regular basis with compatible fluids than infrequently or rarely with the OEM fluid. What is even worse, is to believe that sealed lifetime ATF fairytale Toyota dealerships trying to sell to the public and not servicing the AT at all. I did not use and have no plans of using some off-brand/no-name ATF or engine oil just to save several dollars. Thanks again and looking forward to seeing your next videos.

    Totally agree with you 100%, Peter. I don't know why everyone goes to such great lengths to avoid manufacturer fluids. In many cases, the manufacturer fluid is cheaper. I will say, however, that sometimes it's much less convenient to acquire the Toyota, Honda, etc. fluids.

When i saw that everything was fine i drained and refiled again after like 4000 km. I have to say that i used the oil fron toyota. The reason i did that its because i din't had the date for the last transmission maintenance and also because the oil was turning dark. By the way tank you for your vidéos they helped a lot.

    If anyone watched to the end and is wondering what he means about the watching the trickle and using the computer, what he means is in newer Toyota "[fake]sealed" systems, you have to check the level with the drain plug straw and only at a temperature range which the computer can only tell you. It is a small range and a pain in the butt. I don't have the energy right now to look up the specs but this is just a bonus informational. Not a computer level adjust tutorial. Some say measure what came out and put back in the same, but that only gets you close. The reason is because ATF expands and contracts with heat and ambient temps. So the level is never the same even if measured and makes measurable differences by partial decimal quart amounts like he showed. Plus if you don't know the history and who set the level before and if they were any good, it could be low to same pennies like at a dealer or shop who cuts costs.

    For the next few years at least, prices are going one way - UP. If you have a newer vehicle, and you plan to keep it until it is junk, buying some transmission fluid, oil and air filters, and the correct fully synthetic oil, like a Mobil 1 now, might not be a bad idea. Watch for sales and stock up. It will probably only get more expensive as the years pass. You might even want to pick up some new brake pads, spark plugs, and a new serpentine belt. You can store synthetic oil and transmission fluid forever in a sealed plastic container. Just don't try and use old brake fluid from a container which has been opened, because brake fluid absorbs water vapor from the air. So does gasoline containing ethanol, which is the vast majority of gasoline sold today. Old gasoline which has 'lost its lights' is the number one reason for small engines which won't start. The oil in small engines without an oil filter, needs to be changed quite often to remove circulating metal particles. Next time you change the oil in your lawnmower, generator, or snow blower examine the oil which came out in direct sunlight. Any tiny shiny specks you see floating in the oil will be part of your engine. That is why they only last about 1,500 hours of run time, unless you change the oil every 10 hours of run time, which nobody does. You are supposed to change the oil in a small generator without an oil filter every day, if it runs around the clock during an emergency. A quart of oil is cheap, lawnmowers and generators aren't.
    I'm too lazy to flush my brake lines and calipers, so every couple of years, I siphon out as much brake fluid as I can from my master cylinder, using a piece of clear plastic tubing. (DON'T spill any on your paint.) Then I refill it from a small unopened can of brake fluid. Any left over fluid in the opened can gets thrown away. It isn't as good as a complete brake system flush, but it is better than letting all that old fluid in there. Those ABS units cost a small fortune. And you need a two - way scan tool to replace the latest ABS units. Those scan tools are over $1,000 and require some knowledge to operate.

  • @hotelprius4612
    @hotelprius4612 2 года назад +1

    The thing about the fluid is that it has no hydraulic function in this transmission so it's not as critical as with other transmissions to use WS. The only purpose for the transmission fluid is as a lubricant and coolant. Using something like MOC Synthetic ATF, like many Toyota dealers use currently, and Maxlife is a more than acceptable substitution.

    I dun my Toyota auris touring sports hybrid 2015 at 90,000 miles, the old fluid wasn’t that dirty, I got my new fluid from Toyota shop where I bought the car , the only thing I could not get was 2 new washers for the drain and fill plugs , so I used the old ones again, I filled it up with a clear hose from the top of engine bay with a funnel on top of the hose , I will definitely be getting that filling equipment that you used as my method was a bit messy, I also have done my coolant and inverter with Toyota coolant ,and do all my own oil and filter changes myself, the car has done 124,000 miles so fare , I am from the uk .

      The WS is a fairly robust fluid besides the dye changing colors fairly early on. If it wasn’t a decent fluid you wouldn’t see so many high mileage Aisin transmissions out there. Cause we all know most NEVER change their ATF lol! Always smart to stick to oem fluid spec

    This is Assuming the level is correct to begin with right? If you needed to do a fluid level check than you would need to do it by temp correct? I agree with you Peter, don't go with anything other than Toyota OEM for trans fluid. Customer wanted synthetic and brought maxlife. Said was cheap at Walmart. Like $20 or so for a gallon. He cleaned like $16. First time brought me a 98 1MZ-FE and whatever was mated to it and it made the trans slow to shift when cold. Said called Valvoline beforehand and said it was okay. But he learned don't use universal fluid for the complicated trans system. Said all over forums people suggested it was ok. Even on RUclips comments. I said these are salesmen schills for Maxlife. Advertising in comments and social media ambassadors posing as normal customers. When it warmed up it shifted fine. Took three more spill and fills to get it back close to normal again.
    He felt maybe it was an old car. Like 20 years. Later he brought a 08 1GR-FE thinking fluke. Or Dex 3 was different since this newer one used WS. Same problem. This time it was 12 years old. Slow to shift again when cold. It got better but needed two spill and fills before he gave up and let it be and it got slightly better.. maybe it loosened some gunk and it was clogging a passage. Who knows. But I will recommend against trying this on Toyotas. Not worth it. Even if synthetic is supposed to last longer. But customer was sure he said. I said okay!

  • @Esteban_Herrera
    @Esteban_Herrera 2 года назад +1

    That sucks that Toyota isn't putting the service intervals in the Owner's Manual. I use that for my defense when a dealer tries to up sale me with stuff I don't need. They will also use well in extreme cases or areas. The Owner's Manual covers that too. There are some fluids like Transmission fluid that I will stick to a Toyota brand. Unless I know who makes it for Toyota I stick with Toyota. I just bought 8 plugs from the Toyota dealer and they were the same price as quality aftermarket. Brake pads usually need shims and suggested to change them too. By the time you buy the pads and shims you might as well of bought the TRD which comes with shims. My dealer has an online parts site and charges less if I order through their site and just pick them up. I do let the dealer do the schedule maintenance mainly to keep dealer records. Where I live the small shops use the dealer's prices. Might as well just go to the dealer. I do haggle since I research the work required.
