I bought an Earth Auger (battery operated) Ryobi - dug 11 holes in less than 30 minutes to plant 11 trees. Never ran out of battery time. I plan to plant more trees in the future & my soil is kinda hard for digging with a shovel. For me it was a nice investment.

SO beautiful!!! Watching you and John working together took me down memory lane of watching my parents working together to create a beautiful yard and garden at our tiny home we had growing up. They had to deal with a lot of rocks!! I well remember Saturdays spent digging rocks up throughout the yard. My Mom would have beautiful visions for the landscaping and flower beds and my Dad did the digging. I sure miss them and those days of long ago. Thank you!!

Oh, Mary! Everything is coming together so nicely, and I can tell you that landscape designers have nothing on YOU! It's a beautiful design and the plants/trees you chose are perfect for the vision and purpose you had in mind. It will obviously take more intentional care this next year just getting it all established but then, except for the occasional trimming, etc., it will basically take care of itself. I LOVE that sign....and the cottage names on each place....your heart and desires are quite obvious in all the details. Great job. Well done.

Mary! I'm so glad to see you all doing this yourselves. I'm learning a lot and I can benefit from what you're doing. Even my favorite gardening channel has gone too far from gardening and they hired professionals to do all of the hardscaping around the greenhouse. As lovely as it is I can't get anything out of it personally. I wouldn't mind if you did even more gardening although I know you already do a lot but don't be afraid to film it! This is how most of us do it ourselves and one reason I watch RUclips is to learn not just for entertainment. The Cottages look great and they're a great investment particularly at this time! I think, and I hope that you made perfect timing with the construction of your vacation cottages. I love that you put games and are thinking about bringing families together in a beautiful location. Getting back to the real world is something we could all use a little more of. Again I thank you and John and everyone who's worked so hard! What a great Channel you have and all of your other businesses! You are real entrepreneurs and inspirational to anyone looking to evolve! Hard work certainly does pay off doesn't it in more ways than one... another thing I think is especially cool is that they are side by side. I would love to rent one with my family and my best friend's family rent the other! How fun that would be since we live in different states we could visit right in the middle. Ornamental grasses would also be beautiful - especially with the cottages being in a windy spot. They can be relaxing to watch as they move in the wind.

Hi Mary, I'm so glad you live somewhere where hydrangeas can be out in the open without being burnt to a crisp. They'll fill out the beds perfectly, and the beds won't look too busy, with multiples of a smaller range of plants. With using mulch around new plants, you may want to spray them or water around them with a seaweed solution, to help the roots develop and compensate for the nitrogen used as the mulch breaks down.
