Hi Miguel. I wanted to try my hand at making some hollowed out ornaments this year so I followed your instructions in this video and made myself a set of these hollowing tools. They worked great! Thanks!
Thank you Miguel. it must be very satisfying to use tools you've made yourself. A few months ago I came across a great video about an isolated Russian village where the farmers and their wives had to supplement their meagre incomes by making Russian dolls for the tourist market. The local blacksmith made the turners' tools from old car suspension springs (not the coil variety but the sandwich type). They were amazingly well made and sharp. Best wishes, Alan.
Great video and I want to make some of these they look great. I use the friction sander all the time as well as the drill chuck handle you made which inspired me. Thanks Miguel you always inspire me and I always enjoy your videos they are great!!!
Instead of using the hex adapter, I use an Irwin drill extension with set screws. this is much more secure than the adapter. I also grind small tools from old spade bits.
A novel use for offshore made driver bits. I've found them often too brittle for my power screwdriver, but for miniature turning tools they would be fine for doing tiny contour work. Another steel that makes marvelous turning tools is the shaft material out of old car shock absorbers or McPherson struts. I've used it for punches, dies, taps, and all sorts of chisels. It can be forged or machined if you normalize it over night in a charcoal bed.
Very informative thank you. I made sanding heads for power sanding and I used the middle size bits and make several heads so I have a quick change of korn size . I dont make video so it's not easy to explain. Happy shavings David.
