  • Grinding the channel changer open with a dremel tool is ok. But this way is cleaner and far less work !!
I used this same process on the other 3 Galaxy 99v channel changers with perfect results.
This same process works with all brands of channel changers

Many Thanks Mike!!! Ran into this video trying to figure out a fix for my Galaxy 99 that had issues w/ the LED segments flickering as well as it occasionally jumping around frequencies whenever turning the channel selector. I took my time and it still only took 10 minutes for the whole process and it works fantastic now...no issues at all!

I was gonna do this but squirting/dribbling deoxit in the small slot on the back of the switch worked just as well!

Hi Mike. Cool trick! Have to remember that one. This is Robb/world radio 11, Bill Fukuba's friend from the South Bay Sidebanders Cub. We met at the BBQ place a few years back. Glad to know you are still working on radios, as I am too. I don't live in the south bay any more tho.
    Keep making them videos!!

Hi Rob. You also rebuilt two 727'a for me back in the 80's. Of course I remember you. Craig Adams introduced us. Glad you like this video. Saves a ton of time. See you on skip !!

will the fix last? what if the contacts inside is already weak? i'll try this method first, it's way miles easier... thanks for the tip mike!

The contacts generally oxidize. So someday, maybe many years from now they'll have to be treated again.

Wondering if this procedure works on LED segments that are out? I have a Cobra 148 GTL that the 2's and 3's very top segment shows nothing. I have no flickering problem just 2's and 3's top segment is out. I don't know if it's just a dirty problem or can the LED segment just burn out altogether?

In my experience if led's go out, then they're dead and have to be replaced.

@@mikep95133 Ok kinda what I figured. I can live with the broken segment. Thanks for reply back.

I all ways take out the channel selector out and take it all apart and clean it with servisol-super-10-switch-cleaner it I don't like the idea of drilling holes!!

That's why I melted the holes with a fine soldering tip. Drilling isn't optimal. But I suspect most folks would not take the effort to disassemble a channel selector.

Yea, you really don't need to. I would fix the counter as well. Replace the bezel and the face plate. They make all kinds of new parts for Galaxy radios. I have a 93T that is in mint condition. Love that radio.
