    What to do when the firewood you get delivered doesn't fit in your little wood stove? This week, we finally get around to building a jig to cut all of our 24 inch firewood in half so it will fit in the Jotul wood stove, and we build a nice new bench next to the stove to store all that firewood and sit by the fire in the evenings. Plus, our first little snow storm of the season turns the land into a winter wonderland and Max discovers his love for sledding!
    Big love,
    Dana, Lou, Max & Freja

    I always love how safe Lou is. Freya is so well trained but her still chained her up before starting that saw. Brilliant!
    Safety can sometimes be tedious, but as the saying goes, you always rather be safe than sorry.

    Lou’s storytelling is done so well, that everyone feels the win at the end of the build. 🙌 Plus the video editing is always on point and is so peaceful and easy to watch. 😌❤ It feels like just yesterday you all were fixing up the sail boat, or in Hawaii waiting on Max.

    Way to solve your firewood problem Lou. Very clever and effective! I have an xl Kindling Cracker like yours. It makes splitting wood for kindling a breeze. Addictive! Love it and the fact that a 14yo girl in New Zealand invented it. Plus its beautiful.

    If you're playing with many logs, you need a proper Peavy pole. Much better than the yellow thing you were trying. Love the videos and how you're always learning new skills

    Just a thought, you want to have some air flow around the wood in the box for it to finish drying out inside. You may want to drill some large holes in the box so there is some air flow. Even "dry" wood brought inside often has some moisture it has reabsorbed from a damp, outside air.

  • @MatthewStanford51
    @MatthewStanford51 4 месяца назад +2

    i'd be tempted to drill some vent holes in the firewood seat to make sure the logs stay warm and not mouldy

    I wonder if you can use the chainsaw to cut each piece in 3 or more using your jig, so that is already small enough to use in the wood stove and skip the splitting with the ax?

    I started using the Stihl carbide chainsaw chains last year and love them. I haven't sharpened a chain since. I cut down and up over 100 trees with my first chain before I replaced it. I am now on my second carbide chain and have cut down and up 60+ trees with it and it throws chips as good as it did on day 1 still. I don't miss my chain file for a second and will never return to a standard chain.

    • @WildWeRoam
      @WildWeRoam  4 месяца назад

      That is some high praise for the Stihl carbide chainsaw chain!! Thanks so much for sharing!! thats really incredible you havent needed to sharpen it since!!

    • @andyandnancy
      @andyandnancy 4 месяца назад

      @@WildWeRoam the only downside is that sharpening it is almost impossible. It requires a diamond grinding wheel. Some hardware stores will sharpen them, most won't. Hitting a nail embedded in the tree could stop your day without a backup chain.

    Instead of getting little wood stoves for each of the other containers, would it make any sense for yall to get one more longer container to connect the three (in the shape of a W)? It seems like it would also be handy to have a bit more living space, especially if you'll be staying in the containers for a few years or more.

  • @chrisd3841
    @chrisd3841 4 месяца назад

    Just curious do you guys plan to fill in the spaces between your containers to make one building? It always perplexed us as to why you made the so separate? Even conected they would have had the same floor space amd been easy-to-use and heat.
