Just to be more clear: skiing powder is A LOT harder, it's not even about the skis you have, you need to have a really good technique, you can ride powder with just 90mm underfoot if you have the proper technique, with a snowboard you can ride powder even if you are not that good on it
I agree I skied on powder a ton and I had like a 75 under foot and was perfectly fine he just doesn’t know how to ski properly in pow he was closing his skis to slow down in powder which will just make you sink u can tell he definitely has a lil bit of a bias and doesn’t have enough experience to really make a video like this saying which is better
That's not true, its board technology for both sports. The difference is the aesthetic, skiing is much more formal and dialed, you could say it's more "organized" than snowboarding is. Snowboarding is it self similar to skateboarding as it is a representation of freedom, its culture stemmed from being the minority and breaking free from large organized companies that wanted to "change" snowboarding. Skiing is tight and aggressive and snowboarding is loose and stylish
Here i gotta dissagree. Sking is as formal as you want it to be. You have both legs free to move so you basically get to move them twice as much as on snowboard. You can also screw up much more. Skiing is tight....fck, ive met my share of tight ass snowboarders, coming from the "we are better than you" , whereas the freeride skiing comunity i was once part of, was the most laid back people ever. Every night on apre ski we would get drunk and ski down mountain at night, while snowboarders thrashed the cabin....making us look bad. Just my 2c.Your experience may differ.
Skiing has the advantage in trees, moguls, traversing, back country, and versatility (shape, size, length, etc). I will say this, I have 2 boarder friends who can rock me in trees but when I board for a couple years, pow days were something special.
Easy trails -> I agree 100%, it's way better on a snowboard for the reasons you've given (more fun stuff to do than on skis, the only thing I do on skis is bomb down at high speed). Steep trails -> Imo that's exactly the same for ski and snowboard, as long as you're confident there's no reason for it to be easier/more fun for skiers. Mogules -> I also agree that it's a lot more challenging for snowboarders, however it's still very doable with technique, and it even gets to tons of fun when you start sending jumps from one mogule to the other. Powder -> I just cannot agree with this. Powder is my favourite and there is NO WAY you can enjoy it as much on skis. I've tried powder skis, and they only get as good as any random snowboard in the powder. While a powder or even freeride snowboard makes you fly atop the snow. You can even charge your weight on the front foot with some of them. Jumps -> yup, It's a lot easier to land on skis than on a snowboard. You really need to learn how to land on the right edge. But I also feel like spins feel a lot smoother on a snowboard. Rails -> I don't do rails, I wouldn't give my opinion on this.
I tried skiing for 3 years, failed results 😁. at the same time from the start i wanted to snowboard, i got into it and learned very quickly. I now have a very good level. maybe skiing helped me progress quickly I don't know. in any case even if I will not be skiing again I have the impression that I understand how to do it now with the practice of snowboarding.
I have snowboarded since I was little(im 21 now)but in the past three years I have skied as well. I picked it up pretty fast. I'm not as good as I am snowboarding but I can ski down black pistes comfortably. Ski is much more technical. I believe if you don't get classes from a coach you'll never get the technique down correctly, whereas snowboarding, although there is a certain technique too, you can get away easily once you've learned the very basics. In icy conditions, skis perform better. You can lose traction with one ski and still ski with the other, but if you lose traction with your snowboard you will definitely fall. I can't say what's better on powder since whenever there was powder around I'd just snowboard( I don't have wide skis) but it seems to me that it is still easier with the snowboard; you just lay back(and you can ride powder with any snowboard basically). Butter tricks seem a lot easier to me on snowboard because you can bend your ankle and jump higher, but still, I'm not good buttering with skis. Can't say anything about big jumps because I never done them. For first timers, ski is easier since you can open your legs and don't fall; but you need to balance constantly in a snowboard. What's more fun? Whatever you enjoy the most. And if you are like me, you do both depending on your mood
I'm still practicing on the bunny Hills on snowboarding, however I draw no interest in skiing after what happened when I was a child, when I took skiing lessons, the skiing instructors were very rude, bossy, and impatient with me, since then I never wanted to try skiing again. Every time I watch snowboarding on TV or on the web, I find it more exciting to watch than skiing
I learned to skii before i learned how to snowboard back in the mid early 90s, snowboarding wasnt nearly as popular as it is now it was really just taking off in the 90s. But, i came from skateboarding before i did either so, once i got on a snowboard i was like ok this is what i want. I was able to boardslide and do little stuff, just off my knowledge of skating alone, but turning on ur toes stuff like that actually took longer than some of the buttering stuff, if you skateboarding ur used to popping one side, or landing on 1 truck and pivoting, so buttering was natural to me lmao i remember watching MFM videos back in the day and emulating that. One i like to do is back 180 onto what was ur nose and now is ur tail, keep that in a manual or butter and then pop out of that with another back 180 back to normal stance. in skateboarding, that would be a back 180 to switch manny to switch back 180 out.
Both are equally fun, it depends on the person, that's it. I like to go sideways. Other people prefer 2 boards instead of one. We all feel the same, and like the same.
POW is easier on a snowboard for sure but coming down from a ridge in the backcountry on skis is generally more enjoyable because there is a mix of powder, chop, ice, and weird crusts. I can usually ski all day and never fall in rough off-piste conditions but I will fall on a board though to be fair I am usually trying more tricks but even if on really steep sections skis seem better. 5+ inches of fresh POW I'd take a board most days though I do agree with that.
good video, I never went skiing before. But I always wondered what the big deal with snowboarding was over skiing (that is unless you are doing a run that has the tricks rails/pipes, etc. I just got the impression snowboarding was more appealing to people who wanted to be "different", like more of a rogue type that thinks they are "cooler" because they snowboard instead of skiing.

seems like a quick takeaway can be: for real beginners who are not doing any tricks and just riding, prob better to snowboard. i've been once and loved snowboarding!
Just started snowboarding. I'm now riding steep green runs. I noticed skiers go faster. I see skiers flying by snowboarders all the time. Maybe skiers just feel more confident going fast. I don't know.
Here are the facts: go have fun. Stop putting energy into stupid comparisons and blah blah blah. Go rip it…right now. Get your shit on right fucking now and go rip it. Skis, snowboard, bike, sneakers…whatever
Skiing is not funer than snowboarding. Snowboarding is not funer than skiing. It all depends on the person and what they like more. personally I like snowboarding more. but your opinion is your opinion and I respect it.
just to be clear. personally i found snowboarding a lot easier than skiing. and i think skiing is more fun when you take the time to learn it properly because it just takes longer
This whole video should be about what is "easier".. it's more fun if you can do something easier and not be worried about the techincal skills. flat tricks are Easier on snowboard than skis. powder is Easier on snowboard than skis. Grabs are easier on snowboard than skis. if you see a good skier doing these things they're just as flowy and just as fun.
It depends upon one's idea of "fun". If you have fun executing graceful carved turns, using the ski edges to accelerate across the fall line with the elegant expert technique you've spent many years perfecting, always in control of your speed and yielding to other skiers with etiquette and maturity, then skiing is more fun. On the other hand, if you'd rather barrel down the hill like a slob, loudly scraping the icy surface under the tons of snow you displace with every vertical foot you descend, ruining the conditions for everyone as you wildly careen down the slope with your pants falling down, giving people the finger while you nearly decapitate skiers who had been enjoying a peaceful day on the mountain until you came through, then snowboarding is more fun.

@@Isacrus Tired of all the people that say skiing is better but never tried snowboarding. This kind of logic is why people are so retarded these days. It's like saying vegetables taste better than candy and you've never eaten candy.
I would Recommend skiers and snowboarders to try other sport, and reach at least basic level of carving/edge to edge turns. When you will go back to whatever you ride, you will have more safer experience, as you will become better at predicting moves of downhill skiers/boarders. In a way, it's like becoming better (safer) pedestrian after starting to drive.
good recommendation though i probably wouldnt like boarding because leaning away fron a hill when not seeing the hill sounds terrifying to me ill stick with skis
I’m a 16 year skier and have started snowboarding for about 3 years, I have to say snowboarding is a lot more fun, but I do think seeing skiers do tricks is more stylish in my opinion.
I've done both, started boarding, then switched it up. I learned snowsports at Boston Mills, the runs are so short I got tired of constantly messing with bindings. I've skied the last 20 years now, taught my son to skis two seasons ago and now he's begging to snowboard. I have a feeling I'll be back on a board this season at least once.
I learned skis really fast and didn’t like how it got boring after a couple of years, snowboarding took longer to learn for me and has that learning curve I like to challenge myself with. For me snowboarding was harder but in the end felt much more rewarding IMO
I used to be a LOT better at ski than snowboard (I started snowboard 6 years after ski, and have been rollerskating since 2 yo). I still quit ski for full time snowboarding, it's just a lot more fun to me. Now I'm better on a snowboard though.
Snowboarded 18 years picked up skiing 2 seasons ago and wish I would’ve tried it a long time ago :( , skiing blows away snowboarding in every way , reason 1. Easy to go from lift to lift cause you have more momentum along with ski poles , 2. Snowboarding carving has a lot of wear and tear on your shins over time whereas skiing doesn’t ,3. Skiing is more versatile , you can hit more variety of black diamonds cause it’s more user friendly whereas unless you are a super highly skilled snowboarder (which is super low population) you are missing out on alot of the 🏔! 4. Skiing is way faster !! (Like comparing a jeep to a Ferrari) snowboarding is a slower sport to downhill skiing ! 5. The last and final reason is there are more options with skiing , you can get into racing skis and do that and when you get bored get into back country , then moguls , or just the park, you can also get snow blades or short skis and it’s like a whole other sport entirely !!!!! Just my opinion and this is coming from a life long snowboarder ! However if you are into the look !!! Nothing looks cooler than the snowboarding gear and boards , that’s what was a big draw for me ! Something about skateboarding and snowboarding 🏂 they are cool looking sports for sure ! But definitely try both and see for yourself :) hope this helps
for powder, either is amazing. Snowboard def give you a more floaty feel IMO, but if you fall you are screwed. Half the time you will need to unstrap to get out and then restrap in. Falling in powder with skis is a lot more forgiving and you have poles to help you get up and continue on your way
interesting, I've always said the opposite. With ski's, when you fall, half the time they come out and you have to chase after it and put it back on. With snowboarding, half the time you just push yourself up or roll over and you never even loose that much momentum and continue riding.
@@erichughes3987 i never had a ski pop off in powder cause its so soft. The big thing for me is you have poles so you can push yourself up and then move forward with the poles. On snowboard, your hand will sink in deep powder so you cant push yourself up at all and obv you cant move if you ar es topped

Very helpful. thank you🙂
good video, I never went skiing before.
Looking at the merch I love the stickers, but they're white and so is my helmet. Any chance there's a way to get them in black, will they still show up in white?
Unfortunately all we have is white right now, but the hope is to add black sometime this season!
bro i swear! this is the most helpful video on this topic. and I've seen a lot. thank you
Hey I was wondering was a lot of this footage from peak and peak in NY?
Where do you ski/ snowboard? Some clips look like places outside the GTA (snow valley, Mt. St. Louis, etc.)
I’m a park skier started skiing at 8 than at 12 switch to snowboarding than at 14 I switch back to skiing after discovering the park both are great I just like park skiing on skis a lot more
I skate, but I started skiing cuz my parents skiid, but I love skating, should I start snowboarding?
Yes
I like snowboarding more i think it makes simple things more fun
I am 12 and I didn' t used skies or a board ever. I am kinda chubby and tall. I want to fell the felling that you float (like when I ride my skateboard). What do you recommend me? Pls respond. I think I will choose the snowboard btw
Deep pow tree runs on a snowboard are unreal
LETS GO NEW VIDEO
ive snowboarded for 6 year stared skiing last season off and on and i picked it up pretty quick and i love doing both of them
i like skiing
I like both
what editing platform do u use?
Hi did a little bit of surfing a little bit of skiing never got a chance to do snowboarding I was hoping have a vacation to us a ski resort to try snowboarding
I did both but I chose snowboarding because it’s just way more smooth and no sticks but walking with one foot is kinda annoying
seems like a quick takeaway can be: for real beginners who are not doing any tricks and just riding, prob better to snowboard. i've been once and loved snowboarding!
I never skied only snowboarded. I want to ski so badly tho
How should I do rails better?
Practice
Skiing
Just started snowboarding. I'm now riding steep green runs. I noticed skiers go faster. I see skiers flying by snowboarders all the time. Maybe skiers just feel more confident going fast. I don't know.
Yeah, because skiing is averagely faster than snowboarding, and it is more obvious in flat area, especially with the help of the poles...
skiboarding is more fun!
Boarders always on there butts, seems to be hard on the body to me!!
love the vid
thank you!!
It all depends on the person and what they like more. personally I like snowboarding more. but your opinion is your opinion and I respect it.
just to be clear. personally i found snowboarding a lot easier than skiing. and i think skiing is more fun when you take the time to learn it properly because it just takes longer
i prefer ski over snowboard
I think both are fun but if you dont like snowboard or skiing then it doesnt mean you can just say they are bad. Respect both sports...
I've already made a video on what's easier!
Skiing better in my opinion
I'ma skater so I really want to snowboarding but man idk
sow boarding
you mean snow
To me I like snowboarding better
umm i do both and they’re both equally fun?
Nevermind
Am i the only one who does both? Lol
West coaster here, I am to enjoy snowboarding/surfing pow but there’s just nothing like charging pow on skis, especially some steep stuff with pow. ruclips.net/video/lqdJarUoXow/видео.html peep this vid of Sammy Carlson RIPPING
There were 69 comments until I came. Sorry.
Is messing with bindings all day fun? No. Skiing more fun. Plus, theses more steeze possible with two edges.
Rope tow ?
nate not that many? Especially at larger ski resorts.
1. Learn to conserve your speed
2. Buy decent bindings that come on and off in 10 seconds
3. enjoy walking in soft boots
@@elp1291 when your a beginner snowboarder though it takes long in every binding
Just your daily reminder that Jesus loves you. God Bless and thanks for the vid
I don’t snowboard so I can’t say nothing.
If that's you in the snowboard videos your stance is too wide, causing you to be unbalanced and struggle with spins.
Use me as snowboarding is funner button
You took ten minutes to get to the point
Skiing is better
👇🏼
Can’t do a three on a snowboard but can do a seven on skis , oh ya skiing is way harder lol

You’re doing the same thing saga did. Skiers built saga up to where they are now and the thanks we get is saga backstabs us and chases snowboard money.
You may notice a lot of ski spam emails from saga now hiding that they cater to snowboarding. That’s cuz I called them out on backstabbing skiers.
Know who you are, pick a lane and stay in it. You like saga are trying to be all things to all people.
Cmon man, no offense but you can't make a video about this you just can't. Everyone is different and obviously we already know YOUR personal opinion.
I will say that I like how you categorize the two tho

You just gotta try both I’ve done both snowboarding way more fun

@@Isacrus Tired of all the people that say skiing is better but never tried snowboarding. This kind of logic is why people are so retarded these days. It's like saying vegetables taste better than candy and you've never eaten candy.
@@Isacrus Well then you don't fall into that category of people then congrats
Ahh yes, skiing is the only good thing on this planet.
I usually ski, but I just bought a snowboard and some boots to get back into snowboarding again!! Both are super fun in their own ways
I ski but I also love snowboarding if im in the park im on skis and if im outside the park im on a snowboard
good recommendation though i probably wouldnt like boarding because leaning away fron a hill when not seeing the hill sounds terrifying to me ill stick with skis
Dude great perspectives. I’m an all time skier but this made me want to try boarding
I’m a 16 year skier and have started snowboarding for about 3 years, I have to say snowboarding is a lot more fun, but I do think seeing skiers do tricks is more stylish in my opinion.
2 words zeb powell
As someone who also does both sports, agree with pretty much all of this, good vid my dude!
Look into flow bindings
I learned skis really fast and didn’t like how it got boring after a couple of years, snowboarding took longer to learn for me and has that learning curve I like to challenge myself with. For me snowboarding was harder but in the end felt much more rewarding IMO
Boring? Did you learn how to carve?
@@tokuryulopez9139 no shit
@@jakenewman2135 you must not be that good then
@@tokuryulopez9139 you sound about 12
@@jakenewman2135 you sound about bad at skiing
in my Kylo Ren voice .... "YOU NEED A TEACHER!! I CAN SHOW THE WAYS OF THE FORCE!!!"
I started off with skiing and snowboarding seems more fun to me Because I skateboard and Surf
They dont correlate that much trust me i also have skateboarded for more than 5 years of my life, and trust me there both the same amount of fun
Both sports are great. The one you enjoy more is often decided by which one you are better at.
I used to be a LOT better at ski than snowboard (I started snowboard 6 years after ski, and have been rollerskating since 2 yo).
I still quit ski for full time snowboarding, it's just a lot more fun to me.
Now I'm better on a snowboard though.
As a snowboarder, mogels are my favorite
@@pikanoob ah. I could see how in deep powder that could be the case.

Urban Pictures just don’t go to the SKI resort
@@jakp8777 there are currently 3 ski only resorts in america. They aren't that good anyway. But if I ever make it to beaver creek, alta .. I'd splitboard SKI up and descend in snowboard mode. Check mate
Urban Pictures why are you trolling a ski channel on RUclips? Split boards will get you kicked out at many places. Deer valley and Alta aren’t good? Lol.
@@jakp8777 why am I trolling? This is clearly a video about both sports.
