The difference is the aesthetic, skiing is much more formal and dialed, you could say it's more "organized" than snowboarding is. Snowboarding is it self similar to skateboarding as it is a representation of freedom, its culture stemmed from being the minority and breaking free from large organized companies that wanted to "change" snowboarding. @@Isacrus Tired of all the people that say skiing is better but never tried snowboarding. This kind of logic is why people are so retarded these days. It's like saying vegetables taste better than candy and you've never eaten candy.
for powder, either is amazing. Snowboard def give you a more floaty feel IMO, but if you fall you are screwed. Half the time you will need to unstrap to get out and then restrap in. Falling in powder with skis is a lot more forgiving and you have poles to help you get up and continue on your way
interesting, I've always said the opposite. With ski's, when you fall, half the time they come out and you have to chase after it and put it back on. With snowboarding, half the time you just push yourself up or roll over and you never even loose that much momentum and continue riding.
@@erichughes3987 i never had a ski pop off in powder cause its so soft. The big thing for me is you have poles so you can push yourself up and then move forward with the poles. On snowboard, your hand will sink in deep powder so you cant push yourself up at all and obv you cant move if you ar es topped
Great vid over all, as someone who does both i would say over all snowboarding is more fun for just casual riding and skis are more fun for technical and advanced terrain.
I just went to Bear Mountain Ski/Snowboard hill, it was the funnist thing ever. At first I started snowboarding and wow did I suck. Now Imma full on Skier, it was my first time ever skiing and it was so fun I got used to it fast because its similar to skating. I prefer skiing. P.S. sorry about the spelling. Im only 9, coming from a boy named Zach who plays hockey
The line traveling circus on yt shows that skiers can be rowdy too lol. But yea it depends on preference i personally like skiing because I like the way it feels more.
I think if you're new to one, it's funner than the other, because I find the progression really fun. But, if you're new to both, I would say skiing is funner, because it is easier to learn, so you're more likely to stick with it, and I think woods are a lot easier on skis.

I've done aggressive skating since i was 5 years old, im now nearly 30 and been snowboarding for the past 6 years. But so tempted to give skiing a try and see if I can do all my aggressive inline tricks on skiis!
I’m a 16 year old, and I snowboard a little but haven’t been able to go much because of COVID. I already never went too often and I was never really good at snowboarding. Recently when I went, I actually did not have a good time. I’ve wanted to try skiing and I think this is the time.
I have snowboarded since I was little(im 21 now)but in the past three years I have skied as well. I picked it up pretty fast. I'm not as good as I am snowboarding but I can ski down black pistes comfortably. Ski is much more technical. I believe if you don't get classes from a coach you'll never get the technique down correctly, whereas snowboarding, although there is a certain technique too, you can get away easily once you've learned the very basics. In icy conditions, skis perform better. You can lose traction with one ski and still ski with the other, but if you lose traction with your snowboard you will definitely fall. I can't say what's better on powder since whenever there was powder around I'd just snowboard( I don't have wide skis) but it seems to me that it is still easier with the snowboard; you just lay back(and you can ride powder with any snowboard basically). Butter tricks seem a lot easier to me on snowboard because you can bend your ankle and jump higher, but still, I'm not good buttering with skis. Can't say anything about big jumps because I never done them. For first timers, ski is easier since you can open your legs and don't fall; but you need to balance constantly in a snowboard. What's more fun? Whatever you enjoy the most. And if you are like me, you do both depending on your mood
Riding with back edge is more fun than snowplough skiing, but once at higher level, skiing is more fun as you have much more control, and less dependable from conditions. Switch is obviously, easier on board, and it's easier in powder (but when you ski enough, there are no problems at all). However wakeboard is much better than water skis.
Skiing has the advantage in trees, moguls, traversing, back country, and versatility (shape, size, length, etc). I will say this, I have 2 boarder friends who can rock me in trees but when I board for a couple years, pow days were something special.
I did skiing for a bit and then tried snowboarding. It’s a lot more fun and I feel like there’s just more things to do on a snowboard especially if ur only slope nearby is an indoor ski slope there’s so much more to learn
Both are equally fun, it depends on the person, that's it. I like to go sideways. Other people prefer 2 boards instead of one. We all feel the same, and like the same.
I just switched to skiing last season(I still snowboard but I ski more) and I gotta say it’s a lot more fun in the park imo! You really can’t go wrong with either.
I'm still practicing on the bunny Hills on snowboarding, however I draw no interest in skiing after what happened when I was a child, when I took skiing lessons, the skiing instructors were very rude, bossy, and impatient with me, since then I never wanted to try skiing again. I actually started snowboarding last year when I was 24, the very first time was very hard and frustrating however I refuse to give up and wanted to do it again, the second time I was starting to make some progress and it also started to become very fun, third time was just another day of practice with a lot of fun. Every time I watch snowboarding on TV or on the web, I find it more exciting to watch than skiing
I mostly agree with your opinions. I was wondering if when skiing through the trees, unseen debris such as stumps under the snow causes more problems for skiers. Many times on a snowboard I may run over something under the snow but it’s not that big of a deal. Seems like on skis something hidden in the snow can really cause a crash easily (ie. One ski hitting something and getting tweaked and the other ski going a different direction). But I have to admit, that when I used to ski I would love to go through the trees. I also have to admit that I am so jealous of the possibilities on rails for skiers. Where I you ride, skiers are killing it on all the super techy rails; while the snowboarders only slide the entire rail once in a blue moon. And that’s even without any change-ups. Thoughts? Also, there’s been quite the carving renaissance for some snowboarders the last few years.
If you don't have an advanced level skiing, you'll have lots of problems with unseeing stuff and irregular snow, but once you adapt to things going wrong, you develop a kind of absorber technique like a car which allows to correct those deviations. just train on irregular terrain on how to adapt your legs to bumbs and that sort of things and you'll sort that obstacle ;)
I know im 5 months late but you are the realest guy out there I feel the same way I ski and snowboard and I am trying to stick it out and stay snowboarding but When I skied I had so much fun progressing. I feel as if I would be a better skier than I am snowboarder rn
POW is easier on a snowboard for sure but coming down from a ridge in the backcountry on skis is generally more enjoyable because there is a mix of powder, chop, ice, and weird crusts. I can usually ski all day and never fall in rough off-piste conditions but I will fall on a board though to be fair I am usually trying more tricks but even if on really steep sections skis seem better. 5+ inches of fresh POW I'd take a board most days though I do agree with that.
I tried skiing for 3 years, failed results 😁. at the same time from the start i wanted to snowboard, i got into it and learned very quickly. I now have a very good level. maybe skiing helped me progress quickly I don't know. in any case even if I will not be skiing again I have the impression that I understand how to do it now with the practice of snowboarding.
I learned to skii before i learned how to snowboard back in the mid early 90s, snowboarding wasnt nearly as popular as it is now it was really just taking off in the 90s. But, i came from skateboarding before i did either so, once i got on a snowboard i was like ok this is what i want. I was able to boardslide and do little stuff, just off my knowledge of skating alone, but turning on ur toes stuff like that actually took longer than some of the buttering stuff, if you skateboarding ur used to popping one side, or landing on 1 truck and pivoting, so buttering was natural to me lmao i remember watching MFM videos back in the day and emulating that. One i like to do is back 180 onto what was ur nose and now is ur tail, keep that in a manual or butter and then pop out of that with another back 180 back to normal stance. in skateboarding, that would be a back 180 to switch manny to switch back 180 out.
What resorts do you know that have airbags on the East? I’m in PA and all of the mountains don’t have them and I want to try and learn bigger tricks like cork 7’s off of snow.
This is probably the most accurate video I’ve seen on this topic. Honestly would switch back to skiing if it wasn’t for pow. Powder on a snowboard is a fucking drug
good video, I never went skiing before. But I always wondered what the big deal with snowboarding was over skiing (that is unless you are doing a run that has the tricks rails/pipes, etc. I just got the impression snowboarding was more appealing to people who wanted to be "different", like more of a rogue type that thinks they are "cooler" because they snowboard instead of skiing.
The problem I am having is that I have skied since I was 3 years old, been out in BC, Vermont, and was going to ski Banff but due to covid was not able to. I have ski competitively for 3 years until university started as well. But I live in Ontario, where the skiing is not the best, it is not very challenging stuff. I feel like I have all that I have learned from my time in Ontario and the only way to get to the next level of skiing is the mountains and not these tiny hills. So now I am debating on if I should switch over to snowboarding and give that a try, or start learning how to do tricks and stuff since I have been scared to go over jumps ever since I broke my arm and nearly my leg.
Looking at the merch I love the stickers, but they're white and so is my helmet. Any chance there's a way to get them in black, will they still show up in white?
Easy trails -> I agree 100%, it's way better on a snowboard for the reasons you've given (more fun stuff to do than on skis, the only thing I do on skis is bomb down at high speed). Steep trails -> Imo that's exactly the same for ski and snowboard, as long as you're confident there's no reason for it to be easier/more fun for skiers. Mogules -> I also agree that it's a lot more challenging for snowboarders, however it's still very doable with technique, and it even gets to tons of fun when you start sending jumps from one mogule to the other. Powder -> I just cannot agree with this. Powder is my favourite and there is NO WAY you can enjoy it as much on skis. I've tried powder skis, and they only get as good as any random snowboard in the powder. While a powder or even freeride snowboard makes you fly atop the snow. You can even charge your weight on the front foot with some of them. Jumps -> yup, It's a lot easier to land on skis than on a snowboard. You really need to learn how to land on the right edge. But I also feel like spins feel a lot smoother on a snowboard. Rails -> I don't do rails, I wouldn't give my opinion on this.
just to be clear. personally i found snowboarding a lot easier than skiing. and i think skiing is more fun when you take the time to learn it properly because it just takes longer
I’m a park skier started skiing at 8 than at 12 switch to snowboarding than at 14 I switch back to skiing after discovering the park both are great I just like park skiing on skis a lot more
I've been snowboarding one time and I really want to get back out there and learn BUT idk if that will happen this season so I want to atleast figure out which one I want to do. Something that won't hurt my knees is what im looking for. About to watch some more videos
Imo skiings edge that will always make it more fun overall is the fact that you just just go down the hill get on the lifts, get right off and blast down the hill, no fuckin around with bindings, both are a blast during the actual activity, I like skiing better because I feel like there’s a lot more you can do, and you can go way faster
Just started snowboarding. I'm now riding steep green runs. I noticed skiers go faster. I see skiers flying by snowboarders all the time. Maybe skiers just feel more confident going fast. I don't know.
seems like a quick takeaway can be: for real beginners who are not doing any tricks and just riding, prob better to snowboard. i've been once and loved snowboarding!

I switched to boarding, fell every other second…. Going straight on flat lol But once I got it I felt way more safe and confident and I have a blast doing it!
use me as a skiing is better button
You just gotta try both I’ve done both snowboarding way more fun

@@Isacrus Tired of all the people that say skiing is better but never tried snowboarding. This kind of logic is why people are so retarded these days. It's like saying vegetables taste better than candy and you've never eaten candy.
@@Isacrus Well then you don't fall into that category of people then congrats
Ahh yes, skiing is the only good thing on this planet.
for powder, either is amazing.
@@pikanoob ah. I could see how in deep powder that could be the case.
Dude great perspectives. I’m an all time skier but this made me want to try boarding
As a snowboarder, mogels are my favorite
As someone who also does both sports, agree with pretty much all of this, good vid my dude!
The line traveling circus on yt shows that skiers can be rowdy too lol. But yea it depends on preference i personally like skiing because I like the way it feels more.
Never said skiers can't be rowady!
I started off with skiing and snowboarding seems more fun to me Because I skateboard and Surf
They dont correlate that much trust me i also have skateboarded for more than 5 years of my life, and trust me there both the same amount of fun
I think if you're new to one, it's funner than the other, because I find the progression really fun. But, if you're new to both, I would say skiing is funner, because it is easier to learn, so you're more likely to stick with it, and I think woods are a lot easier on skis.
Skiïng is deffo not for me, can't deal with the 2 long things under my feet. Gonna try snowboarding next week hope that suits me better because i don't have to worry about 2 things crossing over and twisting my knees.
Yoo make a vid on how to pick a good “park suit” like that looks good and keeps you warm. I’ve only found one video total.
dude its not about comfort its about steez and reping the big sposors 🤣
pretty much all the saga stuff is good, the only reason I'm not using it is that it costs like 100$ more to ship to Canada.
@@brandon520 yeah I rock burton pants I got for like 70 bucks off backcountry get something with vents so you can cool down and a bunch of pockets for chairlift snacks
i wear buton khaki pants with a puffer as a liner then a saga sweatshirt over
Yea word boys I just copped some nice north face pants & some wear leathers limited edition gloves, thinking of getting an Armada jacket! I really like the saga stuff but like $1000 Canadian for the jacket and pants after shipping and taxes.. too damn high
Snowboarding! ❤ Moguls are my favourite challenge because it forces me to be on my A game and improve my skills, love it
I have snowboarded since I was little(im 21 now)but in the past three years I have skied as well.
All snowboard grabs are the same, mutes and tail grabs are lit on skis
Riding with back edge is more fun than snowplough skiing, but once at higher level, skiing is more fun as you have much more control, and less dependable from conditions. Switch is obviously, easier on board, and it's easier in powder (but when you ski enough, there are no problems at all). However wakeboard is much better than water skis.
in my Kylo Ren voice .... "YOU NEED A TEACHER!! I CAN SHOW THE WAYS OF THE FORCE!!!"
grabs look so much sicker on skis🙏🏽 it’s a whole nother level fr🔥
Im a skier personally but next time i go imma go on a snowboard and test
8:45 GTFO of the friggin landing area !!!!!!!!!!
Im used to hate powder when I only had park skis but then I got powder skis and now I relized why people love it so much
I just switched to skiing last season(I still snowboard but I ski more) and I gotta say it’s a lot more fun in the park imo! You really can’t go wrong with either.
Just a heads up you can use any snowboard for powder.
This. Is. Spot. On.
Bro, to me you are an advanced, insane pro! Incredible job with all your videos! Appreciate it a lot! Keep up the awesome work! Thanks!
I know im 5 months late but you are the realest guy out there I feel the same way I ski and snowboard and I am trying to stick it out and stay snowboarding but When I skied I had so much fun progressing. I feel as if I would be a better skier than I am snowboarder rn
Very helpful. thank you🙂
POW is easier on a snowboard for sure but coming down from a ridge in the backcountry on skis is generally more enjoyable because there is a mix of powder, chop, ice, and weird crusts.
I like snowboarding better but I have a lot of respect for park skiers.
So happy for new skiing videos
Where the clips from glades and steeps and powder from killington
Yep!
I know windham in NY has one. Others probably do too, I just only know windhams
I know whiteface sometimes has one
Whiteface did when I was there 2 years ago . I’m pretty positive they do it once a week
If I knew I'd be there lol, unfortunately I just learn my stuff on snow
Eyyy another PA skier
I love how cheerful and hyped in every video. Love your videos by the way😀
Deep pow tree runs on a snowboard are unreal
bro i swear! this is the most helpful video on this topic. and I've seen a lot. thank you
This is probably the most accurate video I’ve seen on this topic. Honestly would switch back to skiing if it wasn’t for pow. Powder on a snowboard is a fucking drug
i think taking both is the best
BOT: I have thin park skis so they suck on powder.
People with Bentchetler 100s: laughs in Bentchetler
That’s me. But I don’t get it. Also I got 180 length and I’m 6’3 so idk how could they would be in powder 🥶
I used to ski but switched to snowboarding at 8 and never looked back
I like snowboarding more i think it makes simple things more fun
Excellent presentation
I did both but I chose snowboarding because it’s just way more smooth and no sticks but walking with one foot is kinda annoying
Snowboarding
good video, I never went skiing before.
I like both
Looking at the merch I love the stickers, but they're white and so is my helmet. Any chance there's a way to get them in black, will they still show up in white?
Unfortunately all we have is white right now, but the hope is to add black sometime this season!
Sorry how hyped and cheerful you are in every video I messed up
Easy trails -> I agree 100%, it's way better on a snowboard for the reasons you've given (more fun stuff to do than on skis, the only thing I do on skis is bomb down at high speed).
Hey I was wondering was a lot of this footage from peak and peak in NY?
This is a good unbiased video
I’m a park skier started skiing at 8 than at 12 switch to snowboarding than at 14 I switch back to skiing after discovering the park both are great I just like park skiing on skis a lot more
ive snowboarded for 6 year stared skiing last season off and on and i picked it up pretty quick and i love doing both of them
If u scared of slipping and go fast what u recon ski or board?
Gotta cop the new merch soon 💪💪
I've been snowboarding one time and I really want to get back out there and learn BUT idk if that will happen this season so I want to atleast figure out which one I want to do. Something that won't hurt my knees is what im looking for. About to watch some more videos
I also like skies cause imn filming a ton the normal forward movement feelsnbetter for me
How wide are ur skis
For me ive tried both but a think snowboarding was a litle funer
i like skiing
Imo skiings edge that will always make it more fun overall is the fact that you just just go down the hill get on the lifts, get right off and blast down the hill, no fuckin around with bindings, both are a blast during the actual activity, I like skiing better because I feel like there’s a lot more you can do, and you can go way faster
Video actually starts at 1:50
I started skiing when I was like 10 then switched when I was 15 now I’m 18 and going and trying to ski this season so wish me luck
Just started snowboarding. I'm now riding steep green runs. I noticed skiers go faster. I see skiers flying by snowboarders all the time. Maybe skiers just feel more confident going fast. I don't know.
Yeah, because skiing is averagely faster than snowboarding, and it is more obvious in flat area, especially with the help of the poles...
Can u make a tutorial on how to do a flip in a half pipe
by far the coolest merch in the game
seems like a quick takeaway can be: for real beginners who are not doing any tricks and just riding, prob better to snowboard. i've been once and loved snowboarding!
I’m a skier sometimes I wish I could try snowboarding but I still love skiing
I started on skis than I went to snowboarding bc I was tRNA be cool at about 6th grade and switch back 3 years latter after discovering the park the park is something else on skis it will pull you back
what board do you use
skiboarding is more fun!
I never skied only snowboarded. I want to ski so badly tho
