  • Let’s go back in time and see how we actually setup and tuned our cars in the pioneer days of ECM tuning. This setup was state of the art in 2005 and the envy of many. Imagine going back twenty years and having this advancement. It also gets repaired in this richly packed video. Enjoy!!!

    Wow man talk about the tech you had in the car for the early 0000's ! My car in 2023 has less tech😂, you were definitely ahead of the times. Very cool build. Will you be doing any videos on tuning with dsm link? I have link installed in my 2g and havent got far in depth with tuning with it yet!

      I am a bit of a tech head for sure. A lot of my career was staying on top of leading edge and integrating it. The tuning scene was no different for me.
      I do want to do a tuning video. I am waiting to have one of my projects that need it done from scratch to make it a real life experience for people to see.

I've already learned so much from you and I will be applying it to my dsm build for sure. It's a 94 Talon tsi with only 74k but it's been neglected and robbed of the drivetrain( except driveshaft, rear differential and axles, plus it has a mint interior) and front end components (which I've already sourced and replaced). I was 13 when this car came out. I loved it back then. My friend wirked at a Nissan/Eagle dealership in 1990-1992. We used to stop by to check out the Talons and 300ZX TTs.

      And thank you for sharing your story as well. I remember the 300ZX TT’s in the showroom then as well. They were a bit more money for a young man at the time, plus once I test drove the AWD I was “hooked” so to speak. I drove it pretty hard on the test drive. Also probably because I was driving a no traction fox body prior to trading it off on the Talon.

    Very cool to see this! I've been on a Megasquirt MS2 standalone with my car since 2009, but I'm in the process of retro-fitting back to an ECMLink v3. I'm also about to do a cam swap from some extremely mild Comp 101200 (FP2) to GSC S2's which are a 274/274 duration and have a lot more lift. That would probably be a pretty good cam choice for your car as well.

    • @SlippingTime
      @SlippingTime  Год назад +2

      I will probably go with GSC’s or Kelford cams around the 272 mark. Or of course if I found a good set of HKS’s I would put them in too. Depends what I guy finds out there. I will miss the 288’s for all our drag racing, but don’t really do that much anymore and want to cruise the car more. I had some FP2’s for another build and ended up not using them. Sold them instead and got some kelfords.
      From playing with all the ECM controllers out there, I find ECMLink the most practical for 98% of what people do with these cars. There are some more modern auto tune $tuff out there of course, but I like to play still.

    • @CaptainTonus
      @CaptainTonus Год назад +1

      @@SlippingTime HKS 272s work really well too and have that proper old-school factor. The GSC and Kelford stuff gets you a little more duration at .050 and a little more lift.
      The Megasquirt I'm using is way outdated, so going back to ECMLink will probably be an ugprade in many ways. If I wanted to spend a ton of money, I'd probably go Haltech Elite 1500 or Link G4X because they can run e-throttle and that would be nice to have.

    • @SlippingTime

    I've only seen white/silver lettering on the sideskirts for the 1990. 1991 had the black. Did you change that? Also, where are your front speaker grills in the door?

    • @SlippingTime
      @SlippingTime  Год назад +1

      The side skirt lettering was not consistent back then, but that is factory from 90 with the black form the day I bought it new. Back then I would say almost all red Talons for 90 had black decals on the side skirts.
      I had the mid stereo (no amp) when I bought it where there is no door speakers put in. The wiring is there though. My aftermarket setup does have door speakers with tweeters in the dash (crossovers used). To keep the no speaker look plus incognito I just have a seamless fabric in front of them.

    • @MindBlowin03
      @MindBlowin03 Год назад

      @@SlippingTime maybe the lettering was an early or late year thing? I had a red 90 back in the day that was a very early build date and it had the white/silver.

    What is the proper offset for aftermarket wheels 17X8" for that body style? I have a 1990 and want to put on 245/40/17's if possible. If I need to go coil overs to make the clearance, let me know. I plan to work on the suspension to get the handling much better. Do you have any suspension build type video's/tutorials? That would be great, love you channel! Thanks

    • @SlippingTime
      @SlippingTime  9 месяцев назад +2

      From my experience the ideal wheel for a 1g is 17x8 with a +40 offset using a 225/45 tire. Anything wider and you run a risk of rubbing unless you roll the venders. With the stock suspension arms you can get away with about a 1-1.25” drop which I personally think looks the best on the 1g’s.
      I haven’t done a specific video on suspension, but will keep a not of doing one the next time I setup another 1g.

    • @mikefields1873
      @mikefields1873 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@SlippingTime Thanks for the reply, can you not get a greater offset pushing the wheels further to the inboard part of the car in an attempt to not allow the tires to rub on the outside of the fenders? What suspension components would you suggest to help this out? I just don't think 225's are wide enough for a 450+ whp street car...thoughts?

    • @SlippingTime
      @SlippingTime  9 месяцев назад +1

      @@mikefields1873 I believe the trailing arm will rub rub in that case. You can maybe get away with 235, but I think 245 will rub for sure unless you roll the fender. With AWD and good tires 225’s are good to about 5-600. Ask me how know. 😁

      @@SlippingTime Okay so this gets into another topic I've been wanting to research. 20yrs ago street tires were, um, meh! Now we have some pretty awesome compounds available. My goal is to have a really nice handling, braking and fast strait line car 450-500whp I'm good. Restore the car nicely.
