@@ErlangShenlo One Yonko fleet was already presented as equal in power to the Marines (Whitebeard), so yeah they have the numbers but even most Vice Admirals seem like shit-tier. The average marine makes the average Beasts Pirate look like a genuine New World threat. Not saying the marines are a notably weaker faction, just that their numbers advantage isn't that much of a sway factor IMO.
@@LoudWaffle One Yonko fleet is absolutely not as powerful as the entire marines lol. We see marines around the world watching the broadcast, they had reserves. The marines reign supreme, doflamingo said it himself. The admirals alone contend with the yonko captains while the rest of the navy with the seraphim can challenge the yonko crews and fleets.
To be fair, people joining the marines don't need to be brainwashed when many pirate crews are monsters and they see it with their own eyes and join wanting to protect civilians.
Almost none are like luffy and dragon who are either vigilantes with respect or some dumbass who just wants to travel with his friends or do something for a friend (no haki luffy beating up a warlord early on to liberate Vivi's country, wapol to defend kureha and chopper, going into yonko territory just to get sanji back and going on a hunger strike. Waging war against the FUCKING world just to get Robin back)
I always thought that Akainu is in a way like Luffy, an aspect of Luffy that went too far in justice. They're also determined and strong willed individuals and dont like being tied to one place. Maybe he had a brotherhood with Dragon a one other before it fell apart due to Dragon's beliefs causing a rift unlike Luffy Ace and Sabo. All the more reason why their battle is inevitable.
@@_CfocusThat'd be Kizaru. Akainu doesn't do what he's told. He does what he believes is justice. We've seen in Marineford how he views people who aren't as absolute and aren't willing to die for his justice. Honestly I've always found it dumb how people think people like akainu, kizaru, fujitora, koby etc will all be nothing but celestial dragon dogs for the rest of the series.
For the longest time Akainu and Kizaru looked like they were destined to fall with them but after Egghead I'm starting doubt we're even gonna see Akainu as a villain. I think he'll take on a more Marineford Crocodile-esque role by the end of this. Not exactly an ally or a friend to anyone in particular but still despising the CDs like everyone else.

Akainu will be defeated by the pirate king, but he will do so by leading an independent Marines. Akainu will start it, but Koby will be the one to lead the independent marines into the future.
This is just a “makes sense” statement. If oda wrote it as just that, you would not have a problem with it. In the same way, no one had a problem when CD were just some bumbling fools that controlled the world due to “money”. Never saw anyone say “wait? Why do they control the world? Why don’t the marines just over throw the CDs when they are clearly retarded bad guys?” But now that we know about gods knights and 5 elders- we say “well of course that makes sense!! That’s why the good marines cannot over throw them!” But if they didn’t exist, one piece as a fantasy story could still make the world same with that plot hole.
I disagree about Sakazuki not teaming up with some pirate crew to overthrow the Celestial Dragons. He expressed anger that the Warlords were abolished, and even implies that sometimes, the Marines have to swallow their pride and work with pirates to quell a threat to both parties ("Justice has its price!"). Given what Teach is trying to accomplish, I can see him teaming up with the Blackbeard Pirates to overthrow the Celestial Dragons under the false promise of recognizing Hachinosu as a member nation in his World Government. Realistically, Sakazuki himself is a pirate by nature, in that he fights on the same level as the average pirate (lying, sucker punching, and general dirty tactics) to enforce his vision of justice. He can and will lie to Blackbeard, even USE him and his crew if it leads to his desired endgoal. First rule of extremeism: the ends ALWAYS justify the means!
@Freedom_iwant I never understood the concept of skipping arcs. If a manga series is a series of train cars or a puzzle; why would you purposefully gloss over a car or piece knowing it should connect. That isn’t to say you have to like an arc or think it’s good? I certainly dislike Thriller Park. But it did matter in the long run of the series with Kuma. All in all, it’s more of a confusing choice to me.
@@Avarn388he means skipping the majority of the arc, directly going to main stuff, even I've don't it to long ring long land and impel down, arcs are not fully skipped but alot of material is
Skypeia was and still is the best arc in One Piece. Everything about it was amazing. That being said I started reading one piece right after Skypeia was done being published. I think a lot of the hate is a leave over from people that got pulled out of the east blue week to week. Because that would have been painful with everything that was going down at the time. I know for my part I hate and I mean hate Dressrossa. That being said If I was able to read in a week end and move on. I might have a very different view. I look at One Piece like a modern Lord of The Rings but it's being published one paragraph at a time week to week. Imagine if LOTR had done that. People would have dropped it with complaints like. "Its just been hobbits walking and bitching for 2 years now. Tolkien fell off!"
Now the motive for York wanting to become a celestial dragon makes sense, York wanted to save themselves from the global flood. Being a Vegapunk they knew about it and wanted an out.
I'm wondering how Ryokugyu fits into all of this. I reckon the reason he was introduced so late into the story, so close to the great cleansing, and is so virulently pro-Celestial Dragon more so than any other Marine in the series, is because his the main purpose of his character is to be an exception to the broader rule of the Marines abandoning the World Government once they learn of the great cleansing and their history. By the end of the story, Marines who are still loyal and and dogmatic like Ryokugyu will look like the exception among the Marines, where at the start of the story it seemed like Marines who weren't like Ryokugyu were the exception. Essentially, Ryokugyu's purpose is ultimately to highlight how far the Marines as a whole will have turned against Marines like Ryokugyu.
The lies of the World Government has chained Akainu to the desk. The truth will let loose the war hound. Akainu has been festering for 2 years. When he knows the truth he will explode like a Volcano
@@nelsoncarmona1981 Me too, but I understand why it was necessary for Oda to hold down Akainu until the right time came. In a group of insanely powerful Admirals Akainu is a true natural disaster. Letting him loose would upset the balance in the One Piece world, at least until now. Now that everything is unraveling before our eyes it's a good time to let him out and bring the Marines back into being a true threat instead of puppets
Here’s an idea: while the 5 Elders are in Egghead fighting Luffys crew. The Fleet Admiral and the other marines attempt to confront Imu at Marie Geoise… There we get to see Akainu who’s been so pissed that he just lashes at Imu. It could be a reference to the dog that bite the owners hand.

I'm truly impressed how much Oda has quietly developed Kizaru, giving him more layers and nuance than either of the two defeated Yonko. Gives me a lot of hope that Oda will make the remaining Admirals as complex and layered.
Akainu is basically the One Pieces version of Miles Quaritch who was so cartoonishly evil and that's ultimately the kind of villain we need in OP - someone with absolutely zero redeeming qualities.
@joebrat6809 tbh the hints towards Hibari being his daughter and a history with Dragon make me expect some more nuance Miles Quartrich is the celestial dragons

Do not be surprised if the final arc of this series is a lot like Fullmetal Alchemist final battle where everyone fights against Father. Which if anyone wants to know is my favorite final battle in all of media with return of the king being a close second. If Oda can pull off something like what Arakawa did, he will forever be cemented as a phenomenal writer. Because I love big grand finales when everything is consistent in terms of plot, character etc.
A series is only as great as it's finale imo. FMA and LOTR have done it and it gives a lot of rewatchability, unlike game of thrones which had a great start but now it's barely remembered. If oda delivers, one piece is easily going to be remembered into the next century .
@@HenriqueRLima-vz7ny Agreed. I often equate a great piece of media to a great dinner or four course meal. What’s the one thing most people tend to remember of a good meal? Desert. The finale. If it sucks, it taints everything even the good elements. You even hear the “I really enjoyed the series but the ending” or “in spite of” in reference to a bad ending. Game of Thrones is a good example. Nailing that ending and having it make sense to the series is the minimum. Making it memorable and where it lingers; that’s where FMA and lord of the rings succeeded. And in fact, I recently read a great series that did this with its final book with its ending still living rent free because of how perfectly( a term I don’t use lightly) wrapped up every relevant plot and character points.
The fight aganist Father is one of the worst in all anime. Everyone uses their planned super limit break, no stakes come to fruition, no consequences, high peaks one after another making a narrative cacophony. And then Father is defeated. Seemingly posing no real threat in the end.
@@BinaryDood I don't really remember the fight as the climatic point tbh. But Father's confrontation with the Truth, his gate being completely empty in contrast to Ed's, which gives value to his exchange for their bodies, now THAT is a finale that converges plots and themes in a satisfying way, and I remember it despite not having rewatched it in years. Same for 2003 fma, it has similar thematic resolutions despite having a very different execution. They still achieve what they were after due to their effort and sacrifice being factored in the exchange. And yeah, the final fight was mostly BOOM BOOM POW KACHOW, but a military organization fighting an SCP entity kinda has to go in that direction.
@@Avarn388 I tend to like stories with good payoffs even if they weren't that awesome or profound to begin with. little witch academia comes to mind in that case, nothing there is that special but it pays attention to every detail it presents. It's like these authors care or something lol
Morj I wished you mentioned the uber popular theory about Akainu possibly being Hibari's father and how if that turns out to be true could make that entire Kuma vs Akainu one of the best subtle foreshadowings Oda has ever done.
The fact that the most we see out of Greenbull's characterization, is that he thinks the celestial dragons are gods, but he is also a HUGE Akainu fanboy. If the WG and the marine do split up, we might get an introspective look on Greenbull's morality, depending on his decision.
Right now, I'm expecting Celestial Dragons pick Green Bull as their new favorite after Sakazuki goes his own way. If Aramaki truly respects the current hierarchy of the world and worships the CDs, there's no way he'd side with Sakazuki who would oppose them. My guess is that Aramaki only respects Akainu at the moment because he THINKS that he knows what type of person Sakazuki is, assuming that he also worships the CDs. I hope that Saka will will go against the world government due to the crime of going against his absolute justice, while Aramaki will loyally follow them. This could lead to a face off between Green bull and Akainu, where Aramaki rants how disappointed he is of Sakazuki, only for him to utterly destroy green bull and move on with zero hesitation or respect for Aramaki. I bet a moment like that would make even the toughest Sakazuki haters falter at least for a moment.
I honestly on some way think that GB's quote in Wano is in a way mockery of the existing system. Just because they are not part of WG makes him able to do this without repercussions. He is very aware of this but cannot do anything.
I think the big question is “would the marines immediately believe the WG is behind the sinking?” And my thoughts are not immediately I think the marines will split, or become their own 3rd party but not immediately
This also explains why Oda is reluctant to display the full power of the Admirals, restricting them by environment or emotion. You can't lead a coup without considerable force, and definitely not a military dictatorship without a terrifying amount of power.
The WG vs Marines coup just seems like something inevitable since from the jump Akainu doesn't hide his distate towards the gorosei & celestial dragons because it does seem like he too despises slavery
@@jackjohnsson2190His past theories. I'm talking about his past theories. This shouldn't be hard to think about 😂😂😂😂 I wonder if some of you even think before going on the offensive in your replies 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Back in Marineford when Whitebeard mentioned the final war for the one piece, we thought it was between marines and pirates. But now it's likely going to be a civil war within the marines. On one side you have the marines who stay loyal to the world government regardless, and on the other side you have the marines who choose to do the right thing by protecting the civilians and saving them from the coming flood. And then you have the revolutionary army and all the various pirate factions thrown in. It's truly going to be one mega battle royale!
I know it's lowkey too late for him to join but if we get a scene where smoker defects from the marines because of the gorosei's great cleansing and tells Akainu or someone in charge "You can't boss me around I'm a pirate now." that would go crazy!!
I think after breaking off from the WG the Marines will actually be divided again. Those loyal to Akainu and his views on absolute justice and those loyal to the people. Just like during Marineford, Coby and Akainu will clash on their different ideologies of justice, except this time Coby will have strong allies who share his beliefs like Fujitora and Smoker. Edit: And to expand on this I think the goodhearted Marines will prioritize helping the people of the world board the Noah like how the White Berets made sure everyone was evacuated out to sea.
After 4 more uses of the Mother Flame a lot of resources will be under water, Imu/Elders don't seem to care about less resources from their actions - wonder if all CDs will fall in lockstep?
One thing that cannot be underestimated is the fact that some of the celestial dragons themselves didnt even know the void century was a thing. That was brought up for a reason.
A panel I've dreamed of seeing for years is one that parallels the absolute justice where now the marines are burning their justice coats in a giant bonfire after finding out they weren't doing good following the world government.
This was really well thought out and executed video. The.shifts within the Marines since the time skip has been interesting to watch. They mirror people who work in an organization long enough to notice the good, bad and ugly in them.
@@unclef7090 I think Oda was rushed to finish Wano and didn't get to tell it how he wanted to, including the raid failing (I believe this independent of Morj).
I think the marines forming an independent faction in the final war could also generate conflict that serves as the catalyst for zoro vs mihawk. If cross guild goes at the marines, but the strawhats have to take down marine leadership whilst protecting the rest of the marines for the future new world order, zoro could come in conflict with mihawk to stop him from hunting the marines (and maybe specifically tashigi/smoker)
The only thing I find confusing about the Marines and about Vegapunk's message in general is, even if they all have conflicting views, at what point would it be practical for them to fight the Pirates and Revolutionaries if all three of them have the common enemy of the Celestial Dragons? This is sort of reminding me of back in 2013 when Sasuke announced that he would join the Allied Forces and a bunch of people were confused about whether or not he would still be an adversary in the future (which he was at the tail-end).
i feels so good to finally be reaching these parts of the story as a fan since the manga was near the end of thriller bark. the story has varies issues from bounty hunters and the fishman island eternal pose being pointless. to a list of characters that should have died but didn't without a good reason. but the incredibly interesting world is what keeps me coming back. the fights to me are just frosting for enhancing the emotion of the story. i look forward to the day we get the final chapter. and think these words. We are here.
From this video i'm understand how works politics and history in general, such a valubel informations from me. One Piece is truly best writen fiction. Thank you Morj!
so are we just gona pretend the marines and rest of the world dont know about all the slavery and cruelty the celestial dragons perform whenever they visit?
There's a big difference between "acceptable evils" like slavery which they can overlook for the sake of preserving the world order against the forces they think are genuinely more evil, and a plan to outright genocide the entire planet.
I think in my years of consuming fiction one piece is the only story that has had three final villains for the protagonist to burn through. I like it a lot so far 😂
Great theory, my only problem is that I don’t think a lot of people really fw Sakazuki like that, so I’m unsure if he’d be able to form a big enough faction to make a major impact on the final war. Not to say he won’t be important, but idk if he’ll lead the marines or anything.
@captainzee55 what I’m saying is that I can’t imagine that many marines who’d want to continue fighting for justice would choose to do so under Sakazuki. It’s more likely that people would look to Fujitora for leadership.
There's millions of marines and some of these wanted akainu as fleet admiral instead of aokiji. And dunno if any of you know this but tsuru and akainu are linked.
I still think that there will be divide within the marines like green bull. My hope is Coby becomes the hero of Marines just like in Marineford and rise to bring a cohension to all of Marines.
It's going to be the Marines turning against the Celestial Dragons and in their desperation they make that deal with Blackbeard to make him an official King to prevent the Marines from taking control Marijoa.
Most CDs aren't fighters or have powers/DFs and their 5 strongest in Egghead atm and I think they will soon learn the God's Knights are there for Elders/Imu and not them
Would be interesting if Coby is the one who ends up fighting Akainu at some point, as he is growing so fast and is Garps hope for the future of the marines.
@captainzee55 I totally get why you would hate it. Runing the whole story is an overstatment. But I fully accept the idea would ruin part of the story for you. My question is you said again, what has happened already you feel ruined the story? Like is pell terrible yeah even I think so I don't mind the kinemon stuff. But it only messes up a fraction of the story not the whole thing. Anyway not judgement on what you think just curious as we all have our preferences.
@captainzee55 counter argument he actively did try to kill Coby, and if the marines do splinter and convey disobeys absolute justice he will try to kill him again, or other innocent marines standing up to unjust orders. The difference is at the absolute end of the story Cony might actually be able to fight to lead the marines. But I don’t know if that can happen durring the final war I don’t think he will be that that level by then. So it’s far more likely Sabo fights him to avenge ace or Luffy fights him like Morj believes. Fun to talk about either way!
@captainzee55 Yeah he won't be the head till two piece ; P. But if there is a scism in the marines he will play a major roll. will be interesting eitherway.
I think that many Marines would still want to Team-up with the Pirates and the revolutionaries they might be even different factions of the Marines that we want to stop the celestial dragons in their own way.
What if? Akainu has alway been part of Sword. Ace had an advanced form of Roger's disease and was in his final days. Ace, Akainu and Garp had planned Ace's "Death" in order to help Luffy reach the next level. Maybe even Shanks was in the plan, thats why he arrived in the precise moment to stop things. Just theories but, hey you never know!
Ideally, the World Government SHOULD stand for justice and peace. That's what Marines like Garp and Fujitora try to enforce, because the alternative is pirates running amok unchecked. But here's the problem: the World Government can't be the overwhelming force for peace that it should be because the Celestial Dragons are in charge of the whole kit and caboodle. Personally, I think Dragon's plan is to wipe out every last Celestial Dragon (I dunno if he knows Shanks has Celstial Dragon blood, but I would think Dragon trusts his reputation enough that he's a benign force compared to the guys in Mary Geoise) and install Garp as the new head of the World Government (or maybe Smoker or Coby).
I think the marines will split into 2 factions, 1: akainus military coup and 2: a less oppressive faction (likely including fujitora and koby) that is more likely to team up with the revolutionaries and friendly pirates

Don't forget the holy knights
To be fair, people joining the marines don't need to be brainwashed when many pirate crews are monsters and they see it with their own eyes and join wanting to protect civilians.
Almost none are like luffy and dragon who are either vigilantes with respect or some dumbass who just wants to travel with his friends or do something for a friend (no haki luffy beating up a warlord early on to liberate Vivi's country, wapol to defend kureha and chopper, going into yonko territory just to get sanji back and going on a hunger strike. For the longest time Akainu and Kizaru looked like they were destined to fall with them but after Egghead I'm starting doubt we're even gonna see Akainu as a villain.

When I read the manga, skypeia was a fun arc for me. I think the main issues with it are in the anime adaptation.

And yeah, the final fight was mostly BOOM BOOM POW KACHOW, but a military organization fighting an SCP entity kinda has to go in that direction.

that rear admiral shouldve been scared of her if he knew she was Sakazukis daughter
Oda heard people calling Skypeia a filler arc and took that personally
Hearing this makes me think that the grand fleet will be going around saving people flying the straw flag showing that joy boy is coming to save them.

I’d love for the Marines to become a pirate crew-esque faction

Maybe even Shanks was in the plan, thats why he arrived in the precise moment to stop things.
Just theories but, hey you never know!
If the marines do decide to defect, I can 100% see smoker and Tashigi joining the straw hats or at least fighting beside them
Ideally, the World Government SHOULD stand for justice and peace.
I wouldn't say friends, but more like temporary allies.
