Why do people forget the mother flame is not the eternal flame they are two separate entities. Vegapunk literally stated he couldn’t fully recreate the ancient kingdom’s power source. So the Mother Flame is simply an imitation of the Eternal Flame that Vegapunk has reversed engineered through the Poneglyphs and other sources.
Maybe the eternal flame will awaken within Luffy if he comes in contact with the imitation. Kinda like a second awakening. As he is now he can't hurt the Gorosei, and he doesn't know the reality of his powers, so its clear Luffy will evolve once more, a true awakening.....
Something I found interesting is when we saw the Nika pose in Skypiea it was done around a massive bonfire flame.
I wonder if the Mother Flame needs Nika in some way to become the Eternal Flame.

I think the ancient energy is Joy that can be harnessed as power (perhaps in the form of a sun, mimicking solar nuclear fusion), of which the mother flame is but a snippet of that power and source. This might indicate why it was lost after WG took over (an imprisoned, segregated joyless world), and perhaps why Roger named the treasure "Laugh Tale", a story and the history of joy that all shared. It makes sense why fishmen and etc desire to all laugh together under the same sun- the same source of joy and energy, providing laughter, and an enjoyable, free and equal life for all.
I was gonna say this but with Dreams instead of Joy and then now that I’m reading my thoughts in your comment I realise that will of D might just stand for will of Dreams. And that the one piece might just be basically the thing that pushes you, your drive ie your dream.
Edit: In fact it would also tie to that interaction with Blackbeard in Jaya arc and pretty much every major thing luffy has ever gotten angry about - people losing their freedom to pursue their dream.

the motherflame was never lost. It never existed before VP created it. The story of vegapunk and the motherflame is the story of a man who thought he could create and control the powers of a god and his hubris brought about a threat to all mankind. Nika is the ancient power source. I don't know how anyone could read one piece and come away thinking there was anything remotely positive about the motherflame. Oda is clearly indicating that its development was a bad thing. and the last issue ended with the motherflame starting to burn out of control to create a nuclear meltdown.

Didn’t it seem like the ancient robot started moving once Luffy went Gear 5? I assumed it was the rhythm of his heartbeat that awoke it, the “drums of liberation.” If that rhythm is an infinite source of energy which raises the world out of endless battles for scarcity, then it really is the ultimate liberation.

Commented about the Lunarian Mother Flame theory in the previous video and now I'm even more convinced.
The Mother Flame is merely an imitation created by Vegapunk and the original is probably locked behind the use of Luffy's Nika fruit.

I've believed for years that One Piece is the ancient kingdom's technology and history. It might be the ancient fuel source. That would certainly grant wealth, power, fame. Perhaps the Mother Flame is the beta version which leads to the birth of the Son/Sun Flame. Joyboy stole the Sun from the 20 Kings, ushering the 800 year night before the dawn. And the Nika Fruit may be inspired by the limitless potential of the Sun and the reason the ancient robot is activated while Luffy is in Sun God form - it's designed to remotely feed on that fuel source.
Luffy, the Sun God, will find the One Piece and literally bring the dawn to the world as a physical Sun.

I always imagined the “sun” in Fishman island is a hidden mother flame. It is possible that Luffy will not be able to secure the Egg Head flame and will be forced to take the Fishman Flame later in the story (possibly to super charge his G5) and by taking the Fishman Flame, it will “destroy” Fishman island. This would fulfill Madame Sharley’s prophecy. She says specifically that LUFFY will destroy Fishman island, not that it would flood (it’s literally underwater).

I definitley think the ANCIENT ENERGY or the Infinite energy source that Joy Boy had was one of two things. Either first, Joy itself. The power of laughter and happiness, harnessed to create power, power in humans and in objects. Or, Music. The reference I thought of to support these claims are the Iron Giant. It obviously needed a power source to fuel it, and I don't think the mother flame would have done it, or else Vegapunk would have probably activated the robot by now. However, when Luffy when Gear 5, the robot turned on! Whether it was strength from the joy and laughter of Luffy, Or the beating of the Drums of Liberation that woke it up. Either way it is proof in real life that laughter gives people power, Killer T cells if I remember correctly become stronger and can fight cancer easier when you laugh more. Music on the other hand is something that all people in the world can feel and is integrated pretty heavily into most cultures.
This could also easily be the reason Roger laughed on laughtale. The source of power from joyboys time was laughter and joy, and im sure if his tale is on Laughtale, that is exactly why Roger named it that. Joy boy's tale is a funny one meant to spread joy and make people laugh, creating the ultimate powersource, smiling and joy.

no, the ancient power source is the sun. Claiming it's laughter or joy is middle school level propaganda because you want children to grow up believing their society is inherently good. Oda has always remained faithful to how humanity actually works. To make laughter and music the ancient power source would be a major departure from what he has written so far. It would ruin the whole manga by reducing it to stupidity in the end.
To Morj and everyone here I just remembered something. I don't know you've read Kingdom by Hara Yasuhisa but even if you haven't I think you can still peek at chapters 759 and 760 (2 of my favorite chapters). These 2 chapters have some interesting things that overlap with One Piece and the will of D, here they talk about man's true nature and the fire of will and I think it's pretty interesting how these characters debate about all this and how you can see Doffy's speech at Marineford and a resemblance to the Will of D. here, I highly recommend reading Kingdom by the way

V.P. said dreams made the devil fruits, the greatest motivator to unlock Haki is related to your dreams and the will to see them achieved.. Music is key in every victory celebration, now we see in gear 5 the power and influence of the drums, the first member of the crew Luffy wanted was a musician.. Tot musica is something after all.. also.. Music carries dreams, wills, happines.. the Mother flame is surely part of those things.. maybe when Luffy hanuman eats it thinking its a cool fruit.. he'll get the true power of the sun

Wrong. the mother flame is not a running theme in one piece it's a bad invention by vegapunk. The ancient energy source has been mentioned throughout, but the motherflame isn't the ancient energy source and it never existed prior to vegapunk creating it.

The infinite energy source is not the mother flame (or nuclear energy in our world), but the energy of "imagination" which is mediated by Luffy's Nika fruit. In term of physics, at the fundamental level, energy is something that permeated everything. Even the fundamental particles (masses) are localized excitation of energy. If you have ability to alter reality at your will, in principle you can squish energy from "nothing". I know this cause my doctoral is particle physics.

I think both luffy and roger's dream, which they can only do /after/ already fulfilling their goal to conquer and explore and gain full freedom from the entire world, is that they have too much drive and ambition to let it end there, what's next? i think their dream is to go to the moon, which of course you'd have to be king of the pirates to even have a chance of doing as the WG currently would most likely try to prevent it, as I believe that Joyboy being the first pirate potentially went to the moon with the same ambition, finding the moon people and bringing their tech back, much to the benefit of his home kingdom (the ancient kingdom). very easy to see how the other kingdoms at the time wouldn't like a development like this.

Mmm it could be that maybe the motherflame if eaten by nika could react and be turned through the power of imagination or rubber into that infinite source of energy. And thats how joyboy created it. And to be sharable with everyone maybe the paw paw fruit is needed. It already looks like its a part of nika cause the gummies of the paws are rubbery and the effects of the fruit go beyond reality being able to expel itnangible things and make the tangible. We have seen kuma expel the pain of luffy and share a part of it to zoro. It would be the same thing with the power of nika/flame expel it from.him and share it to everyone or insert it into machines to power them infinitely. I think nika fruit and paw paw fruit and motherflame are to be combined. There was a pretty big focus on the paw paw fruit in this arc.
