or parents who could play with them forever, just like toys, and their jobs would forget about them so they never had to leave for work.

I think it's fitting for desires to get twisted much like how when you ask for a wish from a devil in fiction it tends to be not how you pictured it or desired it.
A bridge is not the best way to prepare for a sinking world, but I assume there's a connection there.

I really love the darker side of one piece, the eeriness of the series is subtle but enough to make you ask questions.
We can reconstruct what happened 800 years ago. The Ancient Kindom learned of the rising sea (they might even caused it by using the Mother Flame). The 20 kingdoms (later World Government) found out and fought a war to get on one of the only safe places, the Red Line(this is why they left their kingdoms, except Lili). They need to keep the flooding secret, or everyone will want to get on the Red Line, too.
I also noticed something interesting: Joy Boy's allies are unaffected by flooding. Wano built a wall, fishmen and sky people don't care, minks have Zou and the giants have the tree Adam.
Concerning the evil dreams theory, I feel like you could probably explain most, if not all, those seemingly evil powers with children's dreams. Children will wish for the wildest things without thinking about consequences. Especially if they have been hurt or are suffering on some way. For example, a child might wish for the ability to remove memories because of the wish to remove some trauma, or maybe a child is overreacting because people won't play with them enough, so they wish for the ability to eternally play with them even if they don't want to, which might result in Sugar's DF.
Sugars fruit could just be the desire to be a child forever. The turning people into toys ability might not even have been an intentional part.
Sugar's fruit seems like a 5 year old that doesnt want to ever grow up, and just wants people to play with but hasnt figured out consent yet

Now I hope that Cavendish gets a fun supporting role later on. Helping the strawhats figure out the nature of demons so they can permanently kill them. Also Cavendish is a swordsman, so maybe Zorro will steal a technique from him.
There seven girls and seven boys that represent the seven deadly sins. Pride are Amande and Zoro. Greed are York and Kaido. Lust are Stussy and Sanji. Envy are Catarina Devon and Akainu. Gluttony are BigMom and BlackBeard. Wrath are Imu and Whitebeard(Gloriosa). Sloth are Atlas and Cavendish.
My theory on devil fruits being the wishes of past people is that the fruits aren't exactly what the person wants but rather an over the top or twisted way of fulfilling their desire.
Like the hobby fruit, it could be derived from the wish of a child who wanted nothing more but to have as many toys as they want and to play with them forever.

I think some of the powers evolve overtime. For instance the hobby fruit the progenitor probably just wished they could play with mommy and daddy the way they do with their dolls, then another user just wanted to play like a kid forever and ever, etc.
I like the idea that the toy fruit was created by the desire of some lonely child who wanted to have more friends, and wanted to stay a child for ever, maybe a Peter Pan-like figure. Their desire was twisted into something harmful, but the intent probably wasn't evil.
The person who desired themselves to be covered in boogers like Trebol is wicked af and the bridge theory is a good one too
If name matters Demons are not a thing, only demonic actions are. However if names don't matter a Demon is like Gear 5. It is a temporary presence that gets turned on when a specific action is done. This is not a theory, so it is fine for anyone to use it.
7:40 I'm surprised you didn't touch on the ending of chapter 1113. If the world is planned to flood due to some type of grand cleansing, then a mass bridge connecting to the most important kingdoms makes sense for a purpose outside of perpetual human torture.

The yami yami no mi is actually a mythical zoan under an alias just like the hito hito no mi: model nika. That's why Blackbeard can't become intangible. Rather than becoming darkness, he became a god of darkness.
All the different races in the One Piece world are the result of the original devil fruit users having children and passing on mutant traits. the world government banished the mutants to distant islands, restricted access to devil fruits as tightly as possible, and enacted a global conspiracy to cover it up (the void century). A few more benign mutants passed under the radar, and that's why we have 20 foot tall humans, humans with horns, and humans with sharp teeth.

Here's my addition to vegapunk's theory what if someone ate a devil fruit and then thought I would like to do this and modified the devil fruit (this can be explained by awakening) or how sugar's fruit could have been originally made by a kid but got modified
In the anime they make it seem like Cavendish only turns when he is sleeping, but if he was fighting for control in the manga that means hes at least slightly aware of something taking over but not entirely what is being done during it.
Pika's devil fruit would probably have that bridge built in a year as long as they had enough stone to supply him for its construction but theoretically he'd be able to just keep pulling it from the earth.
I had already deduced the basic concept of "The Dark Desires Theory" when I first heard about Vegapunk's musings on Devil Fruits being born from desires/wishes. There are indeed Devil Fruits that were born of pure intentioned people with the desire to better the world, just as there were evil people wanting to destroy or enslave the world. The worst case scenario is Devil Fruits born of good intentions being perverted by current users with wicked and dangerous ideas for selfish gain, if not worse.

for some reason this video reminds me of luffy's training on wano where he exerted his haki beyond his body into his target, makes me wonder if the same skill could be used to create mimic/make devil fruits abilities by conquering the surrounding "world" or something
I think the world flooding is probably the best explenation for the bridge. We used to not have any answer but i think the world flooding is why it exists
Well I imagine the old society 800 years ago was a society that made the fruits to their use cases. The ability to become toys is pretty useful if you have to go on long voyages for example other planets.
I have always thought the D. stood for Dreamer. And that the D. Clan had the ability to manifest their dreams. Either like Luffy/Roger and make their dreams come true themselves, or now that we know Vegapunks theory about DF's literally manifest the power of their dreams as a fruit.

The simplest explanation to everything, could simply be "god did it" or just "magic". It's essential that you understand the principle correctly, when using it.

I have a different view on Soru Soru No Mi, it might also be used by a lonely person trying to make plants and buildings talk with him/her by providing his/her soul even if it shortens the user life, big mom taking donations and from enemy is misuse else she also use it by providing souls to plants and buildings "families" or something making all lively. that's sure for someone who fears loneliness.

one of my theories is that the hobi hobi no mi doesn't turn you into a child that turns people into toy slaves.
what i believe it actually does is that it freezes the users age where they are at the point of consumption and gives them powers pertaining to the hobby they had at that point in time.
so since sugar was a child playing with toys, having tea parties, making up stories and so on, when she ate the fruit, her power turns people into toys which she could (but not necessarily has to) enslave to do her bidding (this is alsy why people who get turned into toys are forgotten, most toys children get are hand me downs from people who are no longer interested in that toy.) on the other hand if say franky ate the hobi hobi no mi when he was a teenager, he would gain the power to turn one people (or maybe something other than people even) into guns and cannons.
There's something kind of hilarious that there are just people in the One Piece universe that are possessed demons and no one's doing anything about it.

The effects of the hobby hobby fruit could also stem from incomplete desires. The manipulation part could be the result of a "be careful what you wish for" type of deal. "I wish the people near me want to play with me", sure you can now force them to do so through this nifty contract concept, just touch them.
Hobby-Hobby fruit might be able to be used on inanimate objects, since everything has a voice. So wanting rocks, sticks, and trees to play with you isn't necessarily evil.
The dreamer of the Hito Hito no mi just wanted to be a normal person, and now Chopper is living their dream.

Some thoughts...
What if, the Strawhats are a new group of Deadly Sins fighting to get rid of the evil-corrupt older ones? Could be worth exploring more later, maybe the fact that many of them don't have fruits means that they will turn into new fruits when they die.

Small chance, but could be an insliration for Luffy and his adventures... other than the Monkey King stuff and Hanuman stuff in the recent arcs (but that raises questions of who would be the Rama).
Also fun theory to circle back on once in a while, what mythilogical entity/entities is each Straw Hat inspired from?
Luffy was Monkey King
Zoro was an Asura
Sanji was an Efreeti
Ussop was a Tengu
Etc...
Could also just expand the whole Monkey King and One Piece Connection more, could make a theory that Nico Robin is Tripitaka and her mission is to find the wisfom hidden on their Journey to the West (started in East Blue).

So Zoro being one of the 7 deadly sins is kinda interesting, however since he can achieve Asura form(and Asura's 3 heads being addicted to 3 specific emotions), I think he might actually be 3 of the Sins not just 1.
These being Wrath, Pride and Envy.
And Pride probably being the main head that he has in human form.
However as young Zoro, Envy was probably the main head.
And Wrath only takes the lead while he channels Asura.
This is a genuinely cool thought, I myself felt like he leaned more towards wrath. But, I like your idea better 😂 Thank you lol.
To be fair, even the "bad" DFs can be born from desires that aren't inherently evil.
For the soul soul fruit for example it could be from a traumatized mother that lost a child and couldn't bear children anymore and so she wished that she could once again "create life" and her wish was fulfilled in the most twisted way. There are simple concepts like "I wanna turn into a cow!" and that created the zoan fruits, but something like a paramecia can be extremely ambiguous and thus easily twisted like wishes from a Djinn or deals with a Devil.
Alternatively it could be a child who wished to make friends and literally got the ability to make homies. However, such power comes with a price snd thus the aspect of thr soul.
I could also see zoro as envy makes sense he is striving a title owned by someonelse and obsessing over it and green is always associated with envy
About Tequila wolf. Could it be that it was supposed to be the "prison" of one of Joyboy's shipmates? One that we have never heard of? And his sentence was to build that bridge.
Maybe they all where supposed to have extra long lives in some way, shape or form. Like Zuneshia and the Iron giant.
Sugar's fruit seems like one of the most innocent though. It is very much a childish thought process of wanting to play with others(possibly neglected, possibly left out, possibly just a leader of kids who likes intricate role play!) forever. It could have spawned from an actual child(hence the odd youth properties) who straight up doesn't understand what forever really means. I also always wonder how much the recipient of the devil fruit can twist the powers. Gomu Gomu in reality is looney tunes god power but it starts out as rubbery, then body manipulation, and now fully awakened it has a completely different style.
for added twist with the hobi-hobi no mi, what if the origin was come from child like desire, something like "i want friends to play with me forever" but they have separation trauma and trauma about how he cannot control their surrounding and they only knew friends as a doll, so the desire comes reality with the devil fruit that makes people becomes literal doll with the doll only play with them and cut tied with the doll former loved one and with a touch of immortality

I feel like the Hobi Hobi fruit could’ve been also created with innocent intent. I like to imagine a kid who’s wants to stay the same age forever and have all the toys they desire. Maybe they thought that changing people into toys was a fun way to play with their toys, or maybe they wished for their toys to have a conscious of their own and the devil fruit maker, or however exactly they come to existence, decided that the best way of doing that was stealing the lives of other people. The Devil fruits are possible a-morale and just do things that are most efficient.
the hobi hobi could have an innocent description if dreamed up by a child. perhaps a neglected one.
"my mommy and daddy never play with me, i wish i could play with them all day just like my toys, and they never had to go to their jobs again. and that i could get to play like that forever!"
add in a sorta monkey paw effect by making the dream vague enough, and you get a fruit that forces people to be like toys, slave to the fruit user, and everyone else like their coworkers/friends forget about them so they lose all other responsibilities beyond being the fruit users toys. and a child wanting to play forever gets morphed into perpetual youth.
heck, i remember a conversation with my sister when she was 2 years old. it was our grandpa's birthday, i forget which one exactly it was, but he was in his 70's. and upon hear that he was so old, her 2 year old mind came up with 'man, i wish everyone could be just be 2.' kids can innocently come up with situations that have horrific real world consequences.
The bridge theory becomes even more interesting considering the last chapters revelation.

Wouldn't it be nuts if the void war started out because joyboy unlocked the power of devil fruit. the ancient weapons raise the water level to try and combat them. Over time, without knowing the history behind it, people began using the fruit to further their own desires

I really hope things like the gags in the story like Zoro's terrible sense of direction or his techniques never get explained in the story because in my opinion it would kind of ruin it, they're just supposed to be just that, a gag. And when it comes to techniques, I like to think it's how it works in demon slayer, where every technique creating visual effects is just for the sake of artistic choice for the readers and not like they're creating water or fire or anything with their swords and in Zoro's case actually just being him creating clones but instead him just being so skilled it looks like there's 3 of him somehow.
Makes me wonder if the D clan started it and then the CD decided that they would continue their project but as a punishment now instead of means of salvation

You know what would be wild? What if the desire of a single person could spawn multiple devil fruits?
To clarify , what if both the Darkness and Nika fruit are both spawned by the will of the same person? Like, the Nika fruit represents the ideal power that this person had as a child in order to attain freedom, and the Darkness fruit represents the same desire of the same person but one that is more jaded and disillusioned with the world?
My theory is, that the ancient kingdom and joyboy weren't the good guys. Imu and the gorosai were good and had good intentions. Over the years they had to be strict and became bad In our eyes but all they do is for the better good. We will learn that they protect the world. Maybe imu just got crazy over the years or he suffers like kuma did and that's the reason. We will definitely get a flashback that changes how we see everything and question who we want to win. It's like in naruto, where every enemie had "a good reason"
I feel like ashura and diable jambe were supposed to be haki powers before oda decided what haki was and just kept them cause they’re cool
Zoro's Asura appears to be a manifestation of his santoryu. There are three swords, then there are three zoros with three sets of three blades. So one three becomes three threes. Given the concept of cursed blades, and how that plays out in fiction, I'd hazard a guess that isn't just the will of the blacksmith that can end up in a sword. And we already had all that jazz about 3 worlds, umpteenth desires, blah blah blah, mystical multiplication tables.
What if the creation of DFs worked more like the typical genie thing, where a wish is taken way to literal. For example with Sugars DF, instead of now thinking someone had the really dark desire to enslave and play with people for all eternity maybe it was just a kid wanting to "have people to play with forever" or something.
And to the part where Vegapunk says "Thats my only theory" I dont think he meant after all the years hes been working on and with DFs thats the only thing he came up with, but that he meant thats the only thing he is not able to prove and thus its the only thing that has to stay a theory.
If we take the two theories of vegapunk at face value.
1. The sea is the mother of nature. A personified natural force.
2. And the sea is rising and will consume the entire world
Vegapunk said the sea is angry at the devil fruits so it seems to me that the natural conclusion of this is that the sea is rising because the sea is angry at the devil fruits
I think a positive twist on Sugar's Fruit would be to save terminally ill children.... maybe.... or to punish dictators / slave owners to walk in the shoes of their slaves. Would also make a BOSS fruit for an Impel Down warden.
