- Foliar feeding is the fastest way to get water soluble nutrients into the plants that need it! In this video, I describe what foliar feeding is, how to do it, why you should do it, and why it works. It is a very simple method of QUICKLY getting nutrients into a plant to reach production yields beyond what you thought was even possible.

In the spring, I use henbit weeds. In the summer, I use comfrey. Haven't used seaweed as I don't live close to the ocean. Not really worried about it but I think it's a good idea.
@@tomfisher3117 right on Tom, gotta use whatever is available! :-)
I saved weeds in a 10 gallon bucket for about a month and a half and I filled it with water like you said and capped it and let it sit for two months. Then I siphoned it off into 1 gallon milk jugs and capped them. I got 10 gallons of one hundred percent fertilizer. I haven’t used any of it yet but I can’t wait, I’m very excited!
I been doing hydropinics recently.
I use the masterblend nutrients.
So had some leftover and decided to mist my plants with it.
They exploded with dark lush green leaves the next day.
Was impressed.
Excellent video. I've been using Fermented Plant Juice fertilizer as a foliar spray and it really works. You done GOOD!!! Thanks for spreading the good news. I also combine effective micro organisms which I also make with my FPJ at the same time. I can do this because both solutions are sugar based.
I also have an instructional on how to make the best DIY organic liquid fertilizer for YOUR garden. Each batch is different, which is precisely why its the best fertilizer for YOUR garden at that time! Watch the video and you'll see why! ;) ruclips.net/video/NdXW-MHkfMs/видео.html
My dude this is a good video filled with info!! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Aisha! Much appreciated!
Liked, subbed, and tapped the bell!
The light going out was epic! 😄
Ha ha, epic for you...scary for me! Lost at least a year of life on that one!
Great info!

Many thanks! God bless you.
Love your vidzz great job
I love that small tomatoes

I just foliar fed an indoor apple bonsai grown from seed. It's less than a year old but growing rather quickly under the indoor conditions. I've been shaping the plant and adding style to it's branch structure. However, I had an issue with algae overtaking the reservoir while I put it under stress. I attempted to block out all light and add beneficial bacteria rich water with kelp. However, the plant was not healthy enough and the algae came back stronger.
The soilless mix will stay moist for months. I emptied the reservoir and am not planning to water. I am foliar feeding till the algae begins to live in synergy within the grow tray. I will be foliar feeding with Bushdoctor Flowerskiss twice daily (once midday and once before night) till it regains health. Then, I will transition to vegetative growth.
Wish me luck in my new age bonsai adventure!
The plant is responding by pointing leaves toward the light.
I believe that I will have to work on the root system. The root system has been an issue with this plant since just outside of the seedling stage. I will likely be hand watering with Ferti-lome Root Stimulator after observing a strong beneficial response to the foliar feeding.
Right on Richie, I can't wait to hear about the results!! Love it!
Hi Jeff, I love this exercise. It's so enchanting under the moonlight sky. I'm folia spraying using seaweed fertilizer 1:100 strength. Is that correct? The spinach lettuce have grown within 4 days -- doubled. Incredible!!! The basil starters seem to have freaked... their leaves (mature) were curling.. and today baby new growth is yellowing... grr.. The rhurbarb I coukd see no difference but the leaves feel more leathery... I was testing. On the flowers, they didn't like it (petunia). Blueberries didn't seem to like it. They went harder red like... rather than plump blue... but worth try. Next is lemon tree, grapefruit tree. Is here any plant that doesn't like folio spray using seaweed?
yes I started foliar feeding this year, and saw a big yield in onions, leeks, beans cabbage, l used compost tea and miracle grow.
never tried it on my potatoes, but next year I'm foliar feeding them too.
to me now its a no brainer as it makes a huge difference and often you can see a difference over night
That's awesome Spartan, potatoes will see huge yields as well... They are big feeders and have huge broad leaves. Perfect candidates for foliar feeding!
In my experience, onions respond the best to foliar feeding. They never seem to burn, or anything, just get massive.
The growth on that tomato is Insane. It has to be at least 18-24 inches tall!!
Hi there thank you for giving us the powerful videos
I have questions haw many times in week to apply foiler feeding
thanks
It depends on the crop, but no more than twice a month
Cool video, I've considered foliar feeding... perhaps with a pump sprayer to cover lots of real estate quickly. I was kinda waiting until I start vermicomposting, however... worm casting tea was what I was going to use (and worms are 15 or 16 projects away still)
I love that you garden in the middle of the night :) I'm a night owl, and much prefer doing things in the evening... but alas my garden is 100 yards from the house... and is therefore not electrified.
So instead I use the magic twilight hours. I wait until the sun is sideways, slanted through the trees, and less intense.
F@#! the sunrise. I have better things to do... like sleep :)
Yeah, that's what I use. I have backpack sprayer and two fillings of it does my entire farm. I only do that twice per crop rotation so its like once every 2 months. Works out great! I am a TOTAL night owl! Morning is literally for the birds!!!
Still gardening at night buddy?? Loved the June Yard tour!
Is there a problem with mildew when foliar feeding at night on outside veggie plants?
You have a great channel and a great style of getting your point across.
Thanks, Dan
Hey Dan, later in the season you can run into issues if the water doesn't dry up in time or your airflow is bad. June, July, August seem to be just fine.
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms I appreciate the tip, THANKS
I would like to learn more about foliar feeding my plants but I'm all about feeding my soil microbiology. My understanding is, with the help of mycorrhizal fungi, the roots communicate with the soil biology (if its there) and call up whatever nutrients the plant needs at that time.
Most definitely Bill! Feed the soil and you'll always have the best plants! Foliar feeding is a great SUPPLEMENT to an active, healthy soil profile. It's great in times of stress and times of transition like early germination or transplanting. I'd never use it as a replacement for having the best soil possible! Great point man.
What are you growing in your garden this year Bill?
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms I've just gotten into biological gardening. My real interest and goal is growing soil with diverse microbial life. Also, my first year gardening ever. My base soil was a compost from the local Missouri program. Came off the truck hot and steaming. To that I added things like Azomite, a little biochar(charged), fish bone meal, kelp, etc. I let it all set over last winter. That fall I also planted rye grass seed inoculated with Mycorrhazial hoping to get that root symbiosis established, my experimental idea. In the spring I just cut the rye down and left the roots in. Interesting I had a thick mat of spongy roots I planted into. Planted standard veggies like tomatoes, cucumbers green peppers etc. Everything started slow because of our extremely wet spring but now has gone bunkers. I might add I added a mulch layer of wood chips(various size chips) which has broken down into beautiful organic matter. Not put into soil. I really recommend this, holds moisture and zero weeding. I wasn't really sure what to expect being new but really no tomato diseases to speak of and clusters of tomatoes.
@@billwilson7383 Cover crops can be amazing. Especially if, when you cut them down, put the foliage (which has taken the bulk of the nutrients out of the soil profile) back in as a mulch. I haven't tried rye too many times, just when I was getting the greenhouse beds started, but I may set aside 4 beds this winter for a fall rye setup and weed control. Anyways, I've watched your microscope videos and they are great and the knowledge you are building is impressive!
If you use Yucca extract it will take the buoyancy from the water and it will lay flat on the leaf no beads no magnifying glass you could spray it in the morning so you don’t risk plant molding
Nice Chris, I'll give it a try! :-)
Just throwing this out there, but has anyone made a foliar feed with seaweed extract or fermented seaweed? Seems like the results could be quite good given the nutrient profile of seaweed!
Here’s a secret use 2 mL of kelp and 5 mL of humic acid these two combined work 50% better together than by themselves Humic acid is a chelator do not use this anymore than once a week I’ll be starting a channel soon
Sweet greenhouse 😎
I never use fertilizer in my soil except chicken poop in the fall.
Foiliar feeding is the way to go👍, great advice!
Give it a try either with some weak compost tea or even a sea-weed extract fert. You'd be amazed at the results!
Hey Dirt Cheap..have you ever made a foliar feed from the chicken poop? Obviously you'd have to do it well BEFORE fruiting....but I've hear people trying it with good success.
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms does seaweed provide enough of the essential nutrients? I'm new to gardening. I spoke with a sake rep of an organic fertilizer company who sells seaweed fertilizer among other fertilizers. He said seaweed is good but is limited, it is like a plant only eating "salad" for the rest of its life instead of a well balanced meal. Please ylteach me what you know thanks so much!
@@bbunderson that's an awesome question. Seaweed contains a ton of essential micro nutrients, minerals, and growth compounds found no where else. But in terms of the big macro nutrients.... It's not what it's for. Nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulphur, magnesium, calcium, etc.... Those are the big growth guys and you'll find them in good organic compost. Seaweed perfectly compliments a disciplined organic compost and mulching regimen. Gardens are usually lacking the "stuff" in seaweed extracts... And not the stuff found in commercial chemical ferts. :)
@@bbunderson I have a seaweed foliar feed video coming out tomorrow.... Shows you how to make your own instead of buying expensive ones
I find trace elements rock dust in a spray bottle works well
Nice! I'll have to try that one out!
I have a tendency to clog my pump sprayer nozzles, when using micronized Azomite. So, I will just dust the azomite in the planting hole, the entire soil ball @ transplanting and then thinly top dress the soil after planting. No more clogged nozzles!
Have you heard of using chamomile flower to make a foliar spray to add calcium?
Hey Stacy, I've used it before as an anti fungal (varied results) as well for micro nutrients the added Calcium is a benefit, good call!
I have been pulling up weeds with the roots attached. Would it be better or no to use the roots as well as the leaves to make the fertilizer?
Both leave and roots..... Use ALL the nutrients!
Looks like you were really "feeling good" in this video. LOL
I have always heard not to wet the leaves at night because it attracts diseases.
Remember that only some nutrients can be absorbed through the stomata, and you must foliar spray the under-side of the leaves where they are located with a fine mist, not a rough spray on the top side
May I foliar feed at night to my chilli plant
Can I use it on my lettuce plant sir?
For sure Josemer, lettuce responds amazingly well to foliar feeding! :-)
I want to use liquid fertilizer on water melon, which is best time to do it ?and how many times should i do it in a week or month. Thank you am from Tanzania
Once fruit has been set, I would not fertilize anymore unless you're in a hydroponic setup.
If you have poor soil or a more inert mix, you can supplement once every 2 weeks to max out production.
Thank you
@@ramushutter9184 no worries!
❤️
Is this gonna work on other plants like passion fruit? Some plant leaves have a smooth surface. It repells water unlike pineapple plants, and tomato plants.
All plants have stomata. You might have to spray them from below, rather than on the waxy cuticle of the leaf, but I haven't met a plant yet that can't absorb through its leaves. Cheers!
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms thank you! Cheers!
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms my grannadilla repels all water, even from below. When spraying clouds, it all bounces off.
@Ian Burgess don't think that's gonna work with the grannadilla...
@@kokoslegend4850 definitely doesn't work for all plants... Just not enough surface contact with the shiny plants
Science says Stomata are closed at night and open during the day, thats my understanding.
Foliar feed when heat is not an issue. ruclips.net/video/tDKXVc6OIvk/видео.html
You are correct
At night foliar feeding can cause dampness and encourage fungal growth?
Only if your environment has 24/7 high humidity and poor air circulation
Overall your video is great, but I just wanted to point out that the stomata of most plants actually open during the day and close at night, not the other way around...
If farmers do that, our water will be a lot cleaner and the fish will be much happier. Since it's mostly absorbed, there won't be much phosphorus for runoff.
100% agreed. AND, if they use organic mixes made from seaweed or fermented weeds, we could eliminate all the Salmonella and E. coli that has no business on vegetable crops!
How often should you do foliar spraying?
Depends on the plants and the goals. For my veggie plants like tomatoes and cucumbers, I'll do it twice in their lifetime. Once when they are about a foot tall, before transplanting, and then again a month later or so for one final blast of growth before fruiting. For cannabis, I'll foliar feed every 2nd week until about 2 weeks before budding... Then I'll stop any fertilizing completely. Cheers man!
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms Thank you...mine its mainly for tomatoes and peppers
@@sibiya2000 Perfect. So I would spray those guys twice in their lifetime. Once to give them a boost early on, then again around the time of flowering. You can do it once a week, it won't hurt anything really, but generally twice in a plant's lifetime is sufficient! Cheers.
I spray mine every two weeks throughout the growing season until my plants are producing fruit. You could do it weekly, I guess, but like TRTF says, you need to be careful that you don't burn your plants by using too much in your mix. Blessings!
Shall i mix it with neem oil
That's a loaded question...! Neem oil is actually illegal here in Canada now. I don't advise for or against it nowadays, but if you've used it before no problems, then nothing in this mix will hurt anything! Cheers!
I like the video but you keep saying these studies.. where is the link for the source?
How often how often how often can you foliar feed
Every day if you want. You can't really do any harm with a dilute foliar solution. I do it just a couple of times per life cycle though... That seems to be enough
What is the lasagna method?
I heard it takes two weeks for nutrients to get through the plant
And the sun doesn't burn wet leaves, either.
Can you use the original miracle gro on the foliage
I haven't tried any chemical synthetics as a foliar feed.....but I would think if you go dilute enough, they probably could work.
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms thanks, I think ill do it a few hours before a rain what about the Alaska fish emulsion for foliage ?
@@mississippimoondog fish emulsions and seaweed extracts are PERFECT for foliar feeding!!
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms not familiar with seaweed but I’ll ask about it at the local co-op thanks for the information
Should i foiliar feed every week?
It depends on the crop Nevin, but I only do it about 2-3 times during the plant's entire life cycle....so around once a month.
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms thank you but i have several fiddle leaf figs which i do plan on fertilizing, so just once a month should be enough right?
Would an overcast day be ok.
I think it would be just fine Anthony!
Cheers mate !
How often are you foliar feeding?
Hey Stephen, I usually foliar feed 2-3 times in a vegetable plant's life cycle. One very early in after germination... To set the plant up right. Another right after transplanting... Either to a garden bed or larger pot to give them that extra boost and because roots haven't fully branched out yet. I'll do a third one about a month before harvest if the plant needs it, but never right before harvest as I try to flush the plants a bit at that time. Cheers, thanks for watching!
I should add Stephen, this applies to Cannabis as well. Once early when you get a clone (no one is doing seeds), once again with the transplanting to bigger pots, then again about a month before harvest. Now what you foliar feed WITH, is also important, and can change based on the life stage of the plant, and the type of plant!
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms is there any harm to doing it more often? I have a few cauliflower that are not progressing. How often could I potentially fourier feed them. Gardening with Leon (here on you tube) said only feed your plants on "the days you eat ".
@@bbunderson With an organic foliar mix, you can't over feed your plants. It won't harm them at all. I wouldn't worry about that. But when I am about to harvest a crop, I stop fertilizing it about a week prior. Its a process called "flushing". Cannabis growers do it as well.
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms tell me more about flushing!!
how often to foliar feed
Depends on the crop, time of year, and region/zone.... Could be one a week, could be one a month

So what happens when it rains during the day and then is followed but intense heat and sun? Do the leaves burn? Watering during the day and and water turning into laser beams on leaves are old wives tales. Plenty of documented peer reviewed information readily available. Please do your research before making comments. Foliar feeding although is great to do at night is also the worst time do it when worried about mold or fungus.
That being said, your tomatoes look beautiful.
I had rain during the day followed by sun, and later there many circles burnt in the leaves. Mostly it doesnt really matter, because your plants are accustomed to a lot of sun, so they do not always burn. So these are no old wives tales. Although you actually can spray the leaves in the sun, but if you are unlucky, it may burn pretty bad.
What???? 2:10
I believe someone was stoned while filming himself.
I think you’re right. Kinda makes me lose interest in his videos.
I would suggest that there is a 99% chance that this guy has smoked too much of his "tomato" plants, he is off his face
