Seeing this poor man’s face every day during the trial damn near broke me completely. Now seeing all of the parents/family have to be re-tortured with no hope for justice just breaks my heart. The fact that people call that demon and comfort him, yet these parents are in agony every day is just unfair to the point of nauseam. I pray that God brings as much peace to these families as possible until they see their children again, and that the demon gets what’s coming to him.

To be fair life in prison is quite a tough punishment. I think solitary confinement with extremely minimal contact with others for at least 20-50 years is an appropriate punishment. Also, the death sentence is not a cure for all heinous crime. The USA has more gun violence and the most number of murder cases in all of the industrialized world but we still have the death sentence. I know many here may not agree with my position but you can challenge my views. I’m open for debate.
Additional note: judge scherer was one of the worst judges ever because she hugged the prosecution and victims. No defense attorney should be made to sit down either. And quite frankly the case should have been moved out of Broward Country entirely. The defense did an outstanding job.

  • @Annymae

My heart is absolutely devastated for what the families are going through. It’s not even something one can even fathom happening to their own family. I know the death sentence is what they wanted for justice and they don’t want to hear this but the truth is what will happen to him in the prison with his fellow inmates being his jury now is far far worse than having a peaceful death through the court of law.
Cruz’s lawyer knew what she was saying when she said that. It can also take years before he is put to death through the court of law but it may only take weeks when done through the court of inmates…. Personally it would have been my choice if I was able to choose the justice in this situation again based on what I know the outcome will be. Even if it doesn't, I think the opinion of the majority of them should be taken into account for deciding punishment or sentencing in cases like these. There can be no justice in this case regardless of what they do to Cruz, but at least have them make the decision and go off and live with that forever. Yet he exists, and 17 of his victims do not. It seems unfair; it is unfair. None-the-less, this killer will pay full freight for his crime, with a lifetime spent in a very small world the size of a bedroom (his jail cell), where he can ruminate on his actions every waking moment. I was 24 once - the killer’s present age. That year I graduated with a Master’s degree, and set out on an adventure called Life. This killer’s existence reminds me of the Harlan Ellison short story “I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream”. He may come to find his existence unbearable. I for one wish him a long life.

I don't think the jury did wrong necessarily, it's more of a problem with how the whole system operates. I personally don't care either way whether that lost child gets put to death or spends life in prison, but in cases like this I think the opinions of family members should be taken into account, shouldn't be up to random people with their own opinion and bias and who lost nothing to the perpetrator. Nikolas Cruz is a miserable, lost, tormented soul, literally the most humane thing to have done is to let him fall into oblivion so that his suffering stops. Now he's probably just gonna go even more crazy in prison until he offs himself because there's no way someone like that in prison can get any form of meaningful rehabilitation.
People need to go into these cases knowing beforehand that regardless of what the jury says, there will be no justice, because those people are still dead and the parents will continue to suffer no matter what. Even if they shot Cruz 17 times in the head, one for each of the victims, that still is not justice. Real commitment to mental health so that it doesn't happen again is the only thing that comes close, what happens to Cruz means little for anyone except those family members, and even among them, not all were in favor of the death penalty. Majority vote among them should be the way to go, so that they can go off, grieve in relative peace and live with that decision forever, either for good or bad. Nobody else should have a say in it.

😢Read my other comment before hating me on this one. Please.
I am with all of you. The decision is way out of whack with what others before have been given the death penalty for yet this person massacres a school and gets away with life (for as long in prison as that maybe)I am just confused as to how the law works and jury picks? Was the jury supposed to be picked based on the assumption that everyone picked would automatically choose the death penalty? It just appears as though once they were picked for jury duty they did not actually have a true personal choice. I believe some of their decisions were based on fear of repercussions from the public for NOT choosing the death penalty which is what is happening now for the one might I add BRAVE jury person who is likely fearing for their lives and their loved ones lives because of this. It’s as if it was already decided for the jury what they had to decide before they stepped foot in the courtroom. It’s as if each jury was asked ahead of time will u choose the death penalty or not regardless. If so great we accept u if Not. Sorry. U can not be here.
I’m just very unaware of how the jury selection works. So just very curious and again I am not here to condemn any choices or actions of anyone at all. Other than Cruz’s. Either way he has to face death by the court of law or court of inmates. In my opinion the question should have been to the families,”who do u want to carry out the deed we all know is inevitable?” It can be long and drawn out with all the appeals sure to come with so much more pain for the families everytime they have to deal with another appeal or it can b a quick, painful, inmates take into their own hands death, which could happen in days after Cruz’s arrival to his new “forever” home.
I look into the families eyes and the pain and heartache I feel for all of them is immense. I can only pray they will have some feeling of Justice and peace in their near future. 🙏🕊️🦋🙏🕊️🦋🙏🕊️🦋

Rather than study why we have such atrocities, and prevent them, they'd rather blame a process that was completely legal and legitimate and get upset they couldn't kill another person. Other countries have mental health problems, and video games, but what they don't have is the access to firearms that Americans have. What do you expect from Americans when Americans would rather watch a dozen babies slaughtered than give up their "rights" to certain firearms and focus their outrage on the defendant rather than on the defendant and the system that continues to allow babies being murdered.
