Thank you, Australia, for being so generous in accepting Sudanese refugees. See what you did for this family. Duop is a talented human being whose motivation was love of family, and who remained humble throughout his journey. His hard work never wavered and his dreams have become reality (even as he says he finds it hard to believe.) Thank you, Matisse, for recognizing this is a story for all of us to hear so to keep us humble as well. Would love to know if Matisse is responsible for camera angles, lighting, etc. Very well done on all counts by two gifted NBA players and appreciative human beings. (Just saw that Matthew assisted on this as well - pros at work)
Australia is richer for having Sudanese refugees come to this country. The diversity of people and cultures make Australia a very lucky place to live. Great interview by Matisse.
Duop is an incredible person and I'm glad you enjoyed what he shared! To answer in short, yes Matisse did all of those things, I had some thoughts and suggestions to help as well
@@woodvillewarriors5311exactly this! As an Aussie who now lives abroad, I’m so thankful for the opportunities I had growing up being exposed to people, foods, cultures, etc, from all around the world. The immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers who have made their way to Australia is probably the main defining feature which has shaped the country. We’re such a blessed country to have received people from everywhere.
Duop's parents must be so proud, going through everything they did and finally their boy is a professional athlete in the greatest league in the world, representing his adopted country in the Olympics.
Unreal story. Great example of it taking a village to raise a child and sounds like the support of the community was so strong through tough times early in life. I can't imagine what it must be like to move countries as a kid and not be able to speak the language. Or to have to think about the fact that basketball could be life changing for your family situation. You can see how these challenges have shaped Duop's outlook on the world. So humble. Thanks for posting
Shout out to Helen Fisher, going above and beyond for kids who need it can have such a huge impact on their lives. Great video as always Tisse, and wonderful storytelling from Duop. Thanks for sharing!
5 months later…….wishing the best of luck to Duop & the guys headed to Paris. I hope Matisse is back in the PNW now with friends & fam enjoying his summer with some time away from work BS. PDX LOVES YOU, MVT! ♥️ (Paris is super hot and super gross this time of year anyway. Fk that!)
This is the shit we want to hear and what Australia is all about! Our country is richer in culture and grows with diversity. What a fucking amazing story among many others that have made it here from places less fortunate and thanks Matisse for allowing it to be told 🎉
Man, I love you Matisse. For a professional athlete to be a voracious reader, humble, kind, and use art to give others the spotlight, it's so refreshing. You not only defy every pro athlete stereotype, but you transcend the confines of that label. All this without mentioning how insanely gifted you are as a basketball and a teammate. As a Portland fan who lives in LA, you are so appreciated and I hope you stay with us the rest of your professional career. Much love Tisse!!!
I liked that there wasn’t questions. The story was all allowed progress at his pace and he led the entire way. It was just him talking about his journey. Truly inspiring story.
Having played against Duop as a junior here in Perth, Western Australia, it is amazing to see the transformaton that has happened to his game. Really good to hear and see the hard work that he has put into his basketball game to be able to play in the NBA as good as he does.
Such an inspiring young man Duop - I am so glad as an Aussie that we have you and your family and have played a small part in your story - of course your mum is proud - probably more for the young man you have become as well as the basketball - Loved cheering for you and Matisse in the Aussie team - my children and grandchildren bought me tickets and took me to the big smoke (Melbourne) to see the Australian team play - it was so good to be there and cheer you guys on - I hope you got a chance to catch up with the South Sudanese players while there as well. Good luck in all your future endeavours
Beautiful stuff fellas. Basketball can be a wonderful thing, and I'm very proud to see both of you play for Australia. You're great role models for a lot of young kids.
Matisseeee!! ❤❤❤ What a journey he has been through. As an immigrant myself, I know the feeling of not being able to communicate… Great to get to know Duop!
Thanks for being a huge part of our success… Riyade Lebanon made the championship in 2023 and you were the missing part of the puzzle back then. For 2 months you made all the fans crazy participating in Lebanon Championship and in WASL. Everyone respect and loves you for what you are and what you have done for the team within a short period pf time. All Riyadi players, staff and coaches salute you and talk really good things about you. You made us love the game more then we ever did with Lebanon super stars for the skills tou showed and the lovely game you played. Thanks Duop and best of luck in your life and career. Duop Reath: Best foreigner player to play in Lebanon since long long time.
Matisse, thank you for this video. Thank you, above all, for giving Duop this platform to share his testimony. And, after watching it a second time, thank you for using only two cameras, for using that low light, and for the altruism in editing out your questions that served as a guiding thread. The end result may go against what is supposed to be done to get results, but the intention of making Duop the sole protagonist is a beautiful gesture. Keep telling us stories that deserve to be told, like this one.
Duop thanks for sharing your journey, proof that even when life brings you mammoth challenges, with the right family support, determination, mind set and hard work, you can overcome anything. Watching you play basketball before the NBA you could tell you had the tools to make it happen, big man who could do it on the inside but could shoot the three is the perfect big man for the modern NBA. Well done in all that you pushed for and achieved, and congrats to your family and mum for raising a man with great character and resilience. All the best in your NBA career. And massive shout out to the legendary Aussie Matisse for documenting your Boomer/Blazer teammate's journey, two great blokes doing great things together. Keep it up, looking forward to seeing you guys represent Australia in Paris to do it all again for the Boomers.
Great to hear Duop's Story, the organisation in Australia I work for works with some male youth from South Sudan, this may be inspiring for these young guys. I will have to share this with some of my colleagues. 🙌
Before watching this, I was already a fan of how Duop plays the game. Now I'm a fan of the man! My hope as a Blazers fan is to keep this man ballin! Keep hittin those 3s!
Thank you Duop for sharing your story and Matisse and Matthew for making this. It's just beautiful and so important. I know a lot of your stories have happened all over the world but it makes me so proud to have you guys representing Australia 🫶
Well done Matisse and Duop, I've been thoroughly enjoying you guys compete and extremely proud to have you representing Australia. Of course I hope we medal again in Paris but regardless of any results, I'm just proud to have humble and hard-working ballers like yourselves, Patty, Joe, Dante, Josh x2, Xavier, Jock showing what it means to be Aussies!
I had no idea you had a youtube. As an Oregon fan I always chose to not pay attention to you, but you were traded to the Blazers and I had to pay attention to you. I found out that you are an awesome dude. I love having you on the Blazers! You are a great guy to root for.
This is a really cool piece Matisse! Love it. I'm so stoked for Duop, his story is amazing and he shows such humility in sharing his journey. It's also pretty cool to see his Perth-culture coming through in phrases like "Eastern states"! Only Western Australians would use that and Duop certainly is proud of his roots and cultural upbringings - be they South Sudanese, Kenyan or Australian.
Goes to show the impact we can have when we encourage and support each other. Beautifully inspiring story. 🥲 Love you, Duop!!! When Tisse stopped vlogging a few years ago, he said he wanted to find a way to elevate others and their platforms through HIS platform. He wanted his content to inspire and educate, not just entertain. NOW, the world is lucky enough to witness the fruition of this vision. And it’s only just begun. ✨Blessings are everywhere. Just open your heart to find them✨
This is so cool, at first glance i thought this was going to be about how good Duop has been playing this season. was not expecting this, and im thankful for that. Despite us all having our own battles we fight every day, its always important to have gratitude for what we have and respect how much people who succeed despite all of the obstacles like Duop has, And is now flourishing!!.
Our stories really connect us… as an immigrant who encountered many hardships, THANK YOU Duop for your courage to share your story. It takes a lot and it inspires me to share mines too. THANK YOU Matisse for creating a space in your platform for raw storytelling. So clutch ✊🏽
Duop will have a place in the league for a long time. His skillset and confidence is so valuable. Hope he gets a big payday in Portland. Bring your family too!
Tisse, these interviews are terrific. I already love Duop Reath on the Blazers and appreciate him more from this interview. As a sports fan I don't want to think of players just two dimensionally.....it's great to get to know the human side of the game. WTG guys! (p.s. do more interviews if you can!)
What an amazing story. We take so much for granted here in the west, so to hear a story like Duop and hear about all he and his family experienced to even get a chance at the life we believe is our right as North Americans, is a perspective I think we all should be aware of. The determination and strength he showed to keep working hard and his motivation being not just his own success but taking care of his family, is a testament to his character as a human being and the gratitude he has towards his parents for keeping he and his siblings safe. Incredibly happy for him to be getting his chance to not only play in the NBA, but to also realize the dream to take care of his family. Never is the marriage between professional sports and the opportunity for generational financial stability more evident than in stories like this. Thank you for sharing Duop, and kudos to Matisse and Matthew for this collab. Looking forward to what comes next for all of you.
The great barrier Reath! I love that you’re a Blazer Duop, incredible story, and I can’t wait to see you flourish on the team. Thank you Matisse for filming this and uploading it for all of us to enjoy.
Super interesting story and he's been killing it for us in Portland lately! Appreciate the minimal edit for this too - his story and storytelling are the focus.
Amazing story. Interesting thought though... Baynes, Landale, Reath. All Aussie centres who played backup for Ayton but made the team better when he was out.
such an awesome story! crazy to think we were playing against each other here in perth australia when we were about 15 i got a pic of me scoring on wop to prove it ;) in all seriousness nothing but love for you brother the best is yet to come!!!
I am thankful to hear your story Duop. Fan fest was the first time i got to see you and i knew you had something special and a drive that was unique. This helps me understand where that comes from. Thank you all for joining us in Portland, you bring great energy and what we are about here. Great work on this Matisse!

Matisse has a career in documentary & film making after he hangs up his boots. He did a great series leading up to the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

we helped in a small way but power to him yea
That’s some good teammate chemistry right here
