Jokic is clumsy in his statements, "it's just job"... he can be "cold" only because, for him, the enjoyment of the game comes first, and that overrides the pressure and stress. His BB IQ and physical predispositions would be wasted like with many other players, if there will be no love for the game, which at the same time allows him to have a normal life balance.
It's just a meme at this point that even Jokic intentionally leans into. Yes there are some actual idiots out there who truly believe Jokic doesn't care but most are just trying to perpetuate the joke.

Lots of Serbians in Serbia are watching the Denver nuggets, and even if it was to just watch Jokic at first, many people have grown to love the whole team and the franchise itself. I wish the Denver nuggets great success in the future and many more championships!

Every person and athlete is different some like the fame and media attention Serbia has another fantastic athlete in Djokovic and he seems to be completely different then Jokic when it comes to fame.
Its nothing new with some of the athletes I've seen view the sport they play as a job. But they highly value privacy that keeps that part of their away from the public as to who they are. Along with the real passions they actually pursue outside of their job.

i'm on the east coast and in the last 4 years nuggets became my number one team to root for... curry brought me back to basketball after my local team was an awful embarrassment for decades but jokic and doncic kept me watching
Most beautiful brand of basketball goes to those Warriors teams putting games away by the 3rd Quarter with unmatched passing/shooting and execution. True they may have ruined the league, but only bc every other team is trying to chase what they did but doesnt have the same level of shooting and bball IQ they had so now everyone just gunning 3s so recklessly

The Warriors may have been that heir at one point, but they play far flashier with Curry celebrations and Draymond scenes, combined with KD going there turned people sour to them. And like you said, the warriors took that play style and added the unstoppable 3 point shooting to it to enhance it...then just broke the competition when they added KD.

This is the first time I saw Jokić in an interview where he seems truly relaxed. I think he is definitely more comfortable talking with a friend than media that tries to sometimes create silly narratives. I like what you are doing with your podcast Mike. I believe you are getting better at the podcast and I think you are asking questions that are deep and important. I started loving basketball because of this Denver team a few years ago. You guys are definitely special! I still see some of the guys that went to other teams still missing the time they were in Denver. That happens for a reason. I'll say this, amongst the true superstars in the NBA right now, I think Jokic is easily the best teammate in that group. I'm not in the Nugget's locker room, but it really seems like his humble character, his basketball IQ, and his work ethic rub off on every single player in that locker room. I've also never once heard Jokic direct blame towards a teammate, or fail to take responsibility when he screws up.

Let me write something about Jokic. There was a show on RUclips about the most famous chef who prepares fish paprikash in Serbia, and Jokic always comes to them, sits on a tree stump, and drinks beer and rakija. When he was home for the last time, he told him "I'm here for another 96 hours and then I'm going to America''. Imagine that...Gordon was also there, they were sitting together with the chef, and they were drinking, but the chef says that Jokic is invincible even when it comes to alcohol :) I watched Dallas and Cleveland the other night, super close game. Been following Jokic since his Mega days. Missed only one December Nuggets game few years ago, was telling people in my city that he is going to be special but even i, one of his most loyal fans from the start didn't saw that he would become legit one of the best player to ever play the game of basketball. Now, those same people i was telling them about how Jokic is special back in 15',16'17'...are telling me, who can believe that you were so high and so right about him, but man, at this point i am just happy to be alive in his time and witness the greatness. you could tell back in Mega that he would be a great player but realistically we all assumed probably top regional/euroleague talent then when he went over to the nba you could see the ease with which he created for others and, in my opinion his biggest asset, scoring from tough positions in the paint. his rookie year i thought he’ll probably be pekovic level since pek was KILLING it for a while, but when he dropped 40 on the Knicks i knew he was something else really crazy to think how many things had to fall in place for him to become this, and im so happy i got to witness it from the beginning. amazing guy, amazing player
I started following him 2015/16 season. Nurkić was with the team a little longer than Jokić and he was the starting centre. I remember that season Joke put up 20+ points in some games. Nurk too. It was obvious Nuggets couldn't keep them both and in beginning of 2016/17 Malone started Jokić for a stretch of 10 or so games and then Nurkić. He was still figuring out which player to go with. In one game in December all of this was settled. It was vs Mavs and Nurkić was the starting centre. He had a bad game but Jokić who came in of the bench scored an impressive season-high 27 points and 11 rebounds in their loss to Mavs. The next game Jokić was put back into the starting lineup where he has remained ever since, continuing to put up impressive numbers all throughout winter. Nurkić would end up being traded a few months later to Portland where he thrived.
I started following him after his first triple-double, and interestingly, I saw that there would be something from him only after their loss to Minnesota in the game for the 8th place and entering the playoffs in season 2017-18.I was disappointed after the game, but it wasn't until I watched the press conference that I realized that Jokara is the future superstar of the Nuggets. Then Jokara took all the responsibility for the defeat on himself and thus became the leader of the team. Until then, he was still just "that fat young talent" from Denver.

We probably don’t see this Jokic is another team like Lakers drafted him they would have him doing stuff like a traditional center and not let him blossom into player he could become It’s all about the right system and right coach
I’m a Houston rockets fan and got bored of the NBA so I stopped watching for a while, until the bubble I heard the nuggets were making come backs so I tuned in and saw Jokić play it was a breath of fresh air to be quite honest. I was getting bored of iso ball and 3 pointers but joker really got me watching basketball again. He’s my favorite player to watch his game is special and plays the right way, from passing to post up, and shooting overall TEAM basketball. Best player In the world no question.
Love the fact that joker will dodge any other show but if its for a teammate he is in. Shows how great of a guy he is. Great episode MPJ keep up the good work!

He was the only coach that Demarcus Cousins ever legitimately respected, and that said a lot. I couldn’t be happier for his success in helping develop this incredible, historic, and genuine-hearted team, and for the city of Denver. Y’all had a streak of some really painful seasons. When he answered about the top players in the league, WHO did he say first? It sounded like Drell? Then Luka, Lebron, KD...What was the first thing he said, i just cannot decipher it?
It was really interesting to hear from Jokic's perspective how he prepares for games, and how he feels when he steps on the court. It was kind of a surprise hearing Jokic say that he does feel pressure but at the same time he said you need that pressure to motivate you to want to win against the person in front of you. Many people might not guess that he feels pressure like that obviously because of his calm/relaxed demeanor, but i found that very refreshing that he does lol makes him very relatable. It was also very nice to hear your perspective on how your relationship with Nikola has sort of evolved over the years, and just sharing the things that you've learned from being around him was very profound to hear and listen to. Thank you MPJ for getting Jokic on the podcast, this is by far the best interview in English he's ever done lol
Dude, I fucking love you Mike. I'll be completely honest when you first got drafted I thought you were just going to be "one of those I'm a superstar players". But to see your growth and maturity is legitimately inspiring to me. You've had to deal with so many challenges and Malone was definitely not easy on you either. But instead of folding or getting upset and asking for a trade or something like that, you just buckled down and became an amazing all around basketball player who can affect things even if his shot isn't falling. Listening to your monologue at the end was every bit as good as the actual Jokic interview which is saying a lot considering it's huge that he's even on a podcast in the first place. But it meant a lot to me. "Habits, not goals" is something I didn't realize I desperately needed to hear until now. Much love from a complete stranger my boy. Thanks again for doing this!
Jokic would never go for the bigger names to do interviews or podcasts, I think JJ Reddick even asked someone who knew him (maybe A.Gordon) because he really doesn't like the spotlight. He is all about playing, doing his job and that's it. But him doing this for MP just goes to show he cares for his teammates and his loyalty. Stand up guy, a true champion.

I love the tid bit after the interview with Nikola where he’s just talking about how great of a person Nikola Jokic is. It’s so nice and refreshing seeing two completely different human beings from the other side of the world grow a close bond and friendship over time.
Man, listening to MPJ at the end of the podcast gave me chills. Love his attitude, his maturity, knowing what his role is, what's really important... I remembered when he arrived in Denver, his relationship with Joker was rocky at first, MPJ wanted more minutes and more systems for him, kind of fed up about Jamal and Joker 2 man game. Now he figured out that he can be a key piece even without having many plays run for him. I do live this new MPJ, especially off court and wish him all the best.

So I was always highly touted as a basketball player back in the day but went military instead. In 2013 I got paralyzed on a deployment as well as becoming a double amputee. The lifestyle of winning is respect. Being champions and a 2 time MVP brings a lot of respect to your name and I see how and why you would want to maintain that.
His mental is strong. Being fearful or nervous is inevitable, but the trick is to understand what the worst case scenario is (accept that it is a possibility) and then do all you can to prevent it.
I hope Nikola knows what he means to Denver and really the entire state of Colorado, I also hope that fans will understand that he wants to be left alone and live his life like a regular human being because he absolutely deserves that much and so do all of the Nuggets players. Great questions. Been a huge fan of the nuggets since 06-07 and this squad is easily my favorite. Everyone is so likeable and that culture stems from Jokić. He’s the best thing that’s ever happened to the Nugs.

When the nuggets won their chip I cried tears of joy on the floor after jumping around and yelling for a couple minutes. I'm a lifelong Celtic obsessed fanatic. These guys truly terrify me. Jokic is Bird reborn & he is as unstoppable in the post as McHale. No one could wish for the concentration of so much talent in one player. One word: Greatness. Denver is so lucky.
Not Bird bc he was a 1-man band. Not unselfish like Yokic and not as inclusive nor talented with reading opposition and adjusting to it. He was an emotional aggressor and didn't just play the game. Maybe it was a sign of the times bc basketball was pretty brutal at times then. I respect L. Bird's talent and not devaluing him as a player but Yokic is the WHOLE package. The Warriors may have been that heir at one point, but they play far flashier with Curry celebrations and Draymond scenes, combined with KD going there turned people sour to them. It was the Spurs, then Denver. Which makes sense because from day 1 Jokic said his inspiration is Duncan, and he wanted to be the Tim of Denver
@daddyfuse50 I'm actually not mad at this. I always thought that Spurs team, especially in the finals was a masterclass of offensive basketball efficiency. And like you said, the warriors took that play style and added the unstoppable 3 point shooting to it to enhance it...then just broke the competition when they added KD.

I'll say this, amongst the true superstars in the NBA right now, I think Jokic is easily the best teammate in that group. I'm not in the Nugget's locker room, but it really seems like his humble character, his basketball IQ, and his work ethic rub off on every single player in that locker room. I've also never once heard Jokic direct blame towards a teammate, or fail to take responsibility when he screws up.

Let me write something about Jokic. There was a show on RUclips about the most famous chef who prepares fish paprikash in Serbia, and Jokic always comes to them, sits on a tree stump, and drinks beer and rakija. When he was home for the last time, he told him "I'm here for another 96 hours and then I'm going to America''. Imagine that...Gordon was also there, they were sitting together with the chef, and they were drinking, but the chef says that Jokic is invincible even when it comes to alcohol :)

Been following Jokic since his Mega days. Missed only one December Nuggets game few years ago, was telling people in my city that he is going to be special but even i, one of his most loyal fans from the start didn't saw that he would become legit one of the best player to ever play the game of basketball. Now, those same people i was telling them about how Jokic is special back in 15',16'17'...are telling me, who can believe that you were so high and so right about him, but man, at this point i am just happy to be alive in his time and witness the greatness. you could tell back in Mega that he would be a great player but realistically we all assumed probably top regional/euroleague talent
then when he went over to the nba you could see the ease with which he created for others and, in my opinion his biggest asset, scoring from tough positions in the paint. his rookie year i thought he’ll probably be pekovic level since pek was KILLING it for a while, but when he dropped 40 on the Knicks i knew he was something else

It's crazy how good Jokic turned out to be and this year Serbia might have the top nba draft pick in Topic.
I started following him 2015/16 season. Nurkić was with the team a little longer than Jokić and he was the starting centre. I remember that season Joke put up 20+ points in some games. Nurk too. It was obvious Nuggets couldn't keep them both and in beginning of 2016/17 Malone started Jokić for a stretch of 10 or so games and then Nurkić. He was still figuring out which player to go with. In one game in December all of this was settled. It was vs Mavs and Nurkić was the starting centre. He had a bad game but Jokić who came in of the bench scored an impressive season-high 27 points and 11 rebounds in their loss to Mavs. The next game Jokić was put back into the starting lineup where he has remained ever since, continuing to put up impressive numbers all throughout winter. Nurkić would end up being traded a few months later to Portland where he thrived.
I started following him after his first triple-double, and interestingly, I saw that there would be something from him only after their loss to Minnesota in the game for the 8th place and entering the playoffs in season 2017-18.I was disappointed after the game, but it wasn't until I watched the press conference that I realized that Jokara is the future superstar of the Nuggets. Then Jokara took all the responsibility for the defeat on himself and thus became the leader of the team. Until then, he was still just "that fat young talent" from Denver.

I’m a Houston rockets fan and got bored of the NBA so I stopped watching for a while, until the bubble I heard the nuggets were making come backs so I tuned in and saw Jokić play it was a breath of fresh air to be quite honest. I was getting bored of iso ball and 3 pointers but joker really got me watching basketball again. He’s my favorite player to watch his game is special and plays the right way, from passing to post up, and shooting overall TEAM basketball. Best player In the world no question.

It was really interesting to hear from Jokic's perspective how he prepares for games, and how he feels when he steps on the court. It was kind of a surprise hearing Jokic say that he does feel pressure but at the same time he said you need that pressure to motivate you to want to win against the person in front of you. Many people might not guess that he feels pressure like that obviously because of his calm/relaxed demeanor, but i found that very refreshing that he does lol makes him very relatable. It was also very nice to hear your perspective on how your relationship with Nikola has sort of evolved over the years, and just sharing the things that you've learned from being around him was very profound to hear and listen to. Thank you MPJ for getting Jokic on the podcast, this is by far the best interview in English he's ever done lol
Dude, I fucking love you Mike. I'll be completely honest when you first got drafted I thought you were just going to be "one of those I'm a superstar players". But to see your growth and maturity is legitimately inspiring to me. You've had to deal with so many challenges and Malone was definitely not easy on you either. But instead of folding or getting upset and asking for a trade or something like that, you just buckled down and became an amazing all around basketball player who can affect things even if his shot isn't falling. Listening to your monologue at the end was every bit as good as the actual Jokic interview which is saying a lot considering it's huge that he's even on a podcast in the first place. But it meant a lot to me. "Habits, not goals" is something I didn't realize I desperately needed to hear until now.

I love the tid bit after the interview with Nikola where he’s just talking about how great of a person Nikola Jokic is. It’s so nice and refreshing seeing two completely different human beings from the other side of the world grow a close bond and friendship over time.
Man, listening to MPJ at the end of the podcast gave me chills. Love his attitude, his maturity, knowing what his role is, what's really important... I remembered when he arrived in Denver, his relationship with Joker was rocky at first, MPJ wanted more minutes and more systems for him, kind of fed up about Jamal and Joker 2 man game. Now he figured out that he can be a key piece even without having many plays run for him. I do live this new MPJ, especially off court and wish him all the best.

This is Joker actually despising the culture around it more than the thing itself.

He said “winning a chip was more of a relief than joy” thats a big statement coming from the fact that he was getting criticized for having to mvps he didn’t ask for and no playoffs success and every nba player/sports media was bashing him for possibly getting a third mvp nice way to end the season breezing through that post season

His mental is strong. Being fearful or nervous is inevitable, but the trick is to understand what the worst case scenario is (accept that it is a possibility) and then do all you can to prevent it.
I hope Nikola knows what he means to Denver and really the entire state of Colorado, I also hope that fans will understand that he wants to be left alone and live his life like a regular human being because he absolutely deserves that much and so do all of the Nuggets players. Great questions. Been a huge fan of the nuggets since 06-07 and this squad is easily my favorite. Everyone is so likeable and that culture stems from Jokić. He’s the best thing that’s ever happened to the Nugs.
And of course there’s that famous picture of 5 year old Jokic, thousands of miles away from Denver, wearing a Nuggets sweater.
It was his Destiny. He is the promised one!

When the nuggets won their chip I cried tears of joy on the floor after jumping around and yelling for a couple minutes. I know it’s just sports but the validation of all the years talking about the nuggets, putting my neck out there w hot tales about joker being the future best player in the league when NURKIC was still starting. Now after all these years like I said the validation is awesome.
