Waiting impatiently for my panel upgrade to be done - Can't wait to fly again!

  • It’s been almost 5 weeks, and my panel is still in the avionics shop, ripped apart and waiting for the panel to be done. The first few weeks went excruciatingly slowly, but things have really picked up over the past week. In this video I share a quick update on how the panel is shaping up, and what I’ve been doing in the meantime to prepare myself for flying with the new equipment. I hope you enjoy it.

    Going to look sweet when it is done. Good that you are learning the new equipment while it is in the shop. I did the same during my avionics upgrades. Take care and looking forward to seeing the finished product.

      @WingsOverTO Nav/Com, GPS, Intercom and Mode C. This was a C150 I owned a number of years ago and the work was done at Brant Aero.

    So far so good! Can't wait to see the finished product. I agree the Garmin products take a skill of their own to learn

      Yeah, the user interface is interesting. Overall I like it, but there are a some things I would have done differently. Still, it's not as different from the GNS units as I would have thought, so it should be a straightforward transition, I think.
      The biggest beef I have, if I'm understanding the documentation right, is that the VSI only shows up in hundreds of feet per second. That may be fine for a jet, but for a low and slow plane, I really want to see it down to the 10s of feet per second. There doesn't seem to be a way to change that, though.

      @@WingsOverTO oh interesting! That might be a typo? I know the G1000 shows vertical speed to the nearest 50fpm. I’d be surprised to see a climb hundreds of feet per second

      @@peterellison2220 I haven't seen anything to the contrary. Every manual and online video review I've seen shows a number with a single decimal place, in 1000's of feet. I'm hoping there's a setting in there somewhere that can be changed to show tens of feet, but nothing I've seen has me optimistic about it.

    I have a GI275 and I'm sure you will be very happy with your dual 275 setup. So many owners feel they need 10"+ screens and more. Your setup is cost effective, and will make a great functional panel for this class of airplane.

      I must admit, those 10-12” screens are awfully tempting. But it is also awfully hard to justify spending more on the panel than I paid for the plane! 😀

    Glad to see the update on the Sierra install! My install on N5084M is going just like yours! Taking a little longer than expected, but progressing nicely.
    My installer also had to run wires down the wing for the new strobes I installed. She also said it was a total pain! Took her four hours per wing! The only worse wire was for the tail strobe. The wire chase that goes down the front of the vertical fin is basically inaccessible. Took her six hours… but she won!
    I like the idea you had for the overlay. I have the same issue with mine looking ugly, but the expense of replacing it… ouch!

    • @WingsOverTO
      @WingsOverTO  Год назад +1

      Thanks very much! Yeah the issue with running wires up the tail is part of the reason I didn’t go with a TailBeaconX for my ADSB out solution.
      How much longer til yours is done?

      @@WingsOverTO Oh man, that stinks! Are you planning on making the drive to Osh instead? We live a few hours away, and I am still a little too chicken to fly in, so we are opting to drive again this year.

      Ouch. Which audio panel do you have? Keeping my fingers crossed that my autopilot doesn’t suffer the same outcome, because I’m not sure a 45 year old Century III can be fixed at this point!
