- In October of 2009, the Upper Perkiomen Chamber of Commerce hosted another series of train excursions over the old Perkiomen Branch of the Reading Railroad. Much like the previous year, this year consisted of the ex-Reading FP7A Diesel Locomotives #902 & #903. They will be pulling a quartet of passenger cars, a boxcar, and on the north end, will be East Penn Railroad's ex-Conrail GP10 #7554 (nee-NYC GP9). This video compiles of a few shots from the entire weekends, some from Saturday and a few from Sunday. If you're a fan of beautiful scenery, the Reading Railroad, or "Covered Wagon" diesel locomotives, then this is the video-preview for you!
The full-length feature video will be for sale this June. Stay tuned for further details.
Such a beautiful K5LA and M5, outstanding combination
The Morristown and Erie owns much of that consist, they just recently scrapped all of those comet cars because they were badly vandalized after being stripped and neglected, there were a total of 7 or 8 of them. Birken is still in service luckily
I was there and remember it well, those diesels are AWESOME!
come back to this forgotten comment after 9 years
I just love the paint design on the f7a’s that is one of my favorite engine and paint job combos ever
AWESOME VIDEO, this was a really nice video, you are so lucky to railfan all the good stuff
Very nice horn. Beautiful locomotive.
Awesome video Adam! I love vintage EMD locomotives!
Wow! That's a beautiful K5LA!
Very nice M-5 atop the 903, great video, excellent F-units!
wow, nice shot of the wheels
love the shot with the old car in it
Those Reading FP-7 paint schemes were and are as the Western Maryland Fireball design.
and nice catch witht he comet 1's, those still look really nice, just like they always did
were those comet 1s ex njt
Unfortunately, trips like these may never happen again. =(
Where’s the harm in continuing to operate these trains again, especially for those who have the utmost appreciation for them. In my opinion, they’re a treasure from our past and more of them need to be restored to operating condition for excursions such as these.
Very good show sir.
Nice job! Is this all M&E equiptment?
I was gonna say, different engine whistles in various shots.
Older NJDOT/NJT PS Comet 1 coaches!
Awesome video as always, Adam! Those F's have outstanding K5LA's. Favorited!
By the way, are you attending the CRHS Philly 09 / Riding the CR Express?
That K5LA reminds of Amtrak!
@guitboxchicken No, not 7554. There was I think 7579 and 757-something.
Its a K5L on the first F unit not a K5La, a P3 on the Geep, and an M5 on F unit 903 it must have had the horn changed at some stage.
AUSSIETRAINDRIVER not really changing the horns are very hard. They have been removed and placed on a few times. They were built with M5s new
Sweet! Good lookin fp7! The k5la on it is okay, but it needs to get an original horn, like an M5 or a pair of A200's.
Love teh M5 they had on her on Sunday.
That old car is a 1955 Chrysler New Yorker. Chrysler's top of the line luxury car at the time. Styling and engineering was all new for 1955.
@CSX6000 This East Penn Railroad is not associated with Rail Tours Inc.
Is this line still in use?
Those 2 F7s are no longer in use. Reading and Northern still runs their locomotives though
When was the last time these ran?
How Come At 2:13 7554 Has A K3 Yet At 2:30 It Has A A200
two horns mounted on the same unit.
good stuff man
It is a straight K5LA. I know the people who switched the horns Sunday; and they ain't no dummies.
Nice M-3 on 903
Isnt that a K5LA horn?
I was on that train in 09
Just the 4 coaches.
What is the different between a GP9 and GP10?
A GP9 was an original EMD locomotive, while the GP10 was a Conrail rebuild of the GP9. It got some upgrades to the cab and filters among others, but engine is the same pretty much.
I will be chasing the E8s tomorrow. =)
howd it go
if l was an engine l would marry the 903
