    Just found your channel, good video, no BS. AI art has disrupted POD with a tidal wave of “content” and RB is already sinking, it’s filled with rip-off’s and countless fake accounts. I suspect this move my S6 is just the start for other POD sites to follow. However, I already dislike the fact that some sites like S6 take discount fees from artists, so this move will either make or break S6. If they charge a subscription and improve their site and the interface (including speed) and artists make sales, or preferably even increase sales by S6 getting rid of the dead wood and using some of that money for advertising then they will retain artists and it will be a win/win. If they don’t make those improvements then they will sink. I have a feeling many POD sites will sink anyway due to decreasing demand and a firehose of increasing content supply. Worst case scenario we will be left with Amazon Merch as the only one left standing, which would really and truly suck.

    I so respect your perspective about being a RUclipsr and appreciate that you are not a clickbait youtuber! Like seriously, so many people just regurgitate other people's content with zero insight of their own. When you say you help artists sell their creations online you give a lot of pertinent details about just how to do it. I just signed up with Society 6 last week and so I don't think these changes affect me much. Thanks for taking the time out! Enjoy your cooking!

    Why should they take any money for shipping from your account? #1 They are taking money from the customer for shipping and #2 they are paying you a Design commission - you are not in involved in production or shipping of products. Its their planform - but its your design, without Artist design their platform is useless - they literally making all their money because they have artist submit their design to them. This honestly sound to me like a legal issue coming their way over this.

    I can not believe what I just heard coming out from an artist. They are literally taking about 30% more from a miserable fee that they already pay you, and its all god ? 5$ Verification is not a big deal ? 500% change and the thing serves to verify the account which is literary working with 1$ perfectly. So they just want to milk anything from artists. Yeah, they will probably return the fee later 😂. 0.30$ for a sticker shipping ? What percent is that of artist mark ? And subs for artists at the top of the cake. While all other profession are fighting for a raise in this times of prices going wild this is a huge deal. Don't even have to mention that they will charge the customer for the shipping vast majority of the times so this is just a way to take more from the artists.

    Cheers for this video, Mey! I really appreciate your down to earth, no BS delivery of facts. 👍 I think the shipping fee is a bit odd, when they could have either increased shipping costs for the customer, or increased the base prices of their products. 🤷 But, I agree that it isn't a terrible amount, regardless. The verification fee is something I don't mind. If it reduces spam, and improves the quality of the site, then I'm all for it. I'm intrigued as to what the tiered plans will cost and what their benefits will be. Hopefully there will be a free, or at least a very low priced, tier. All in all, I do like S6, and I hope that when they do start charging more, that the site not only has a reduction in spam, but gets an upgrade in UI/UX, as their site can be offputtingly slow, and the image quality of their listings could be better. 🤞🤞

    Thanks for taking the time to clarify everything Mey. And Happy Passover!! I find people complaining and panicking over fees, and getting angry at the platforms is a ridiculous waste of time. No one owes us anything. There are marketplaces available for us to sell on. They have to make money too. And they have every right to change their terms, as we do to raise our prices and/or commissions (depending on the platform). There is always a way to make it work.

    I agree with everything you said about this. It is truly not a big deal. When I saw you announcement to talk about the Society6 issue that I was worried that this was a huge crisis like what happened a few weeks ago when Etsy was unable to pay commissions for a couple of days because of the bank closure or there was an announcement that they were shutting shop down. But to hear it was just this. Nah, not a big deal and honestly not shocked they decided to make these changes as others have been doing it too. They have to make some profit to stay in business. And as you said, the level subscriptions will keep the spammers away. No going to complain.
    Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule during this holiday to break it down for us.
    I appreciate it. And no I am not hating ya telling it like it is.

    As a Newbie in the research phase I had decided to go the Shopify route because all the marketplaces seemed over saturated with massive uploads. But, this is going to weed some of that out. I think they’re all going to make changes. I just watched your Hostinger video AND OMG YES!!! I love it. I’ve been pulling my hair out with Shopify.. it’s not that easy and maybe a little more complicated than what I was looking for (I’m a nurse who’s still working). This feels a little more manageable for me at this time. I really appreciate you going through it so thoroughly. I’m actually excited again. You got a new sub who’s about to binge your videos. 👏🏻👏🏻

    For the most part I agree with you on the Society 6 but I feel it would be better if they raised the prices instead of eating in on the commission with a fee. Yes, we can raise our commission. But a smarter way to go from their side would be to raise the overall price and I think that in the end would make them more money then this fee.

I didn't earn a lot of money but now definetly I'm gonna quit from this web. Their interface and way to upload designs were too odd, and for little illustrators as me this is a big deal... • @Kythe42
    @Kythe42 Год назад

    I'm not panicking, but I am frustrated. Like you, when I first heard the announcement, I looked at what the fees actually were and knew I could just raise my margins to compensate. And the ability to customize the margin for each product isn't actually new. It's been there for probably several months now, but I understand it may have been easy to miss that announcement.
    The $5 fee to start a new account is annoying but not a deal breaker in my opinion as it's a one time fee and no one that already has an account has to worry about it.
    The subscription plans are much more concerning, and as you said, they have not made it clear whether or not there will be a free option. Yes there are other sites that charge subscriptions in order to sell there, but ones that had no free option I crossed off my list, so it would feel like an insult to everyone that already has been selling there to suddenly demand monthly fees. I feel like everyone with an existing account should at least be grandfathered in to a free option. That being said, no free option wouldn't necessarily be a dealbreaker, but I'm going to have to wait and see how much the plans actually cost and what you're getting for what they're charging. In the mean time I'm just sitting tight and I will not be putting any more time into my Society6 shop until I know more about these upcoming subscription plans.
    This combined with the Redbubble stuff (thankfully I was put into premium there so am exempt from the new fees) is making me think that while I don't want to give up on POD altogether, I should be putting more focus on digital downloads/printables that I haven't done very much with up until now. Digital products are something that I feel I'd have considerably more control over. I'd also really like to try Zazzle, but I'm trying to resist that impulse because who knows if they are going to make any majorly unpleasant changes in the near future as well.

  • @rennyblack9933
    @rennyblack9933 Год назад

    That we can now change the commission per product is FANTASTIC news! If you're looking for video ideas in these comments, may I suggest a potential topic: I'd love to hear your thoughts on how we can determine which products are better to mark up than others. Example: is it smarter to lower a price on items that are more commonly sold in POD (say a tshirt or mug) vs increasing the commission on products that are more unusual (like a credenza or lampshade)? Is there some SEO tool we could use to help make these decisions for ourselves? Should this decision be influenced by what's trending and/or when the marketplace puts items on sale? How often should we reevaluate the commission rates on each product type? Or other factors?
    Most of these questions I have derive from my thought processes around how to set a weekly schedule to update product listings and perhaps pinterest posts with appropriate keywords, etc. I've been wondering if it's worth the time to go back to older pins or product descriptions and modify them with different tags/keywords on a regular basis, or if it's a better use of my time to push out new products or designs and ignore pins I've already made to promote products in my shops... if that makes sense. Just getting started. Haven't opened any shops yet, but developing a plan for how to best use my alloted marketing hours each day in relation to my alloted design hours in relation to other shop maintenance - like readjusting commissions. Thanks!

    For me the deal breaker is not the shipping, it’s not the verification fee....the the subscription. I won’t pay to be on a platform. Period. I just won’t. Not when sales have tanked. Not worth it. If someone is one there just make thousands....go for it. But their platform is painful to use if you want to enable all products, which I tend to do. If you are just selling prints on there, I guess it’s not such an issue...

    • @MeyTribe

      We still don't know if that would be mandatory at all...
      I think their slow speed literally comes from the amount of people uploading and their own servers... maybe few designers and the site would be faster?
      In Israel there are 2 companies who roughly do this sort of thing, being a POD marketplace, both of them are only for paying artists, without any free plans... also FAA is for paying artists. maybe that's why I am "used to it" ??
      Anyway, we will have to wait and see what these terms really are come fall (I think they mentioned it would be in the fall time...)

      @@MeyTribe yes they said fall. At this point I’m thinking if I decide to stay, I would have to either stick to patterns, which upload faster, or limit the items I sell my designs on. But I can’t believe I’ve never come across your channel before. I’ve listened to just about every POD RUclips channel out there and your latest Zazzle video is what caught my eye because almost NOBODY talks about it! Like literally one other channel talks about Zazzle and they are good but for the most part don’t tell you that much. They keep all the good stuff for their exorbitantly priced course. Not to say they aren’t successful. They definitely figured out the formula on Zazzle, they are Pro Diamond….but this is my side gig. I have a full time job and I do this for as much extra money as I can muster out of it without dumping a bunch of cash into it. I’m going through your Zazzle videos now. Setting up my second shop and trying to be much more professional about it. Yes society6 is business that makes $100-200 millions per year. It is not about quality and quantity it is about money. Lets be real 90% artists on any marketplace earn less than 50$ per year.
    Artist spend time creating art, promoting art, bringing costumers to society6, uploading art, and they need to pay for bringing free designs to marketplace. So technically all marketplaces print on demand gets your art for free. Reason why all marketplaces start doing "Pay to sell your art" is because less and less people buy art. So to make money they will take from artists. It is short term fix because after few years of not selling anything even most hard core artist will give up and focus more on regular job.

    • @MeyTribe
      @MeyTribe  Год назад +1

      I think that that's the case with sooooo many other platforms.
      So many sellers on Etsy lose money for trying to sell there, people on ANY POD platform never make a single sale... Even RUclips- with more than 92% of all content creators never getting monetized.
      It's the basic equation of having more and more people making (items, designs, printables, videos) and the SAME amount of people (or less) are there to consume.
      I am not saying that artists are not spending time promoting, but most of the people just upload- without thinking of marketing - as so many RUclipsrs guide people to upload and upload and upload cause it's the "fast" way to get "rich". (I'm digressing LOL )
      I think these platforms should never be a main source of income for anyone, especially not by itself. it's a great way to LEARN actual product design, have something to market on social media- to better one-self with marketing, and gain a true following. But the next step is moving to creating on your own platform or with your own supplier.
      And more def- anyone should keep their job and not throw themselves into any online business- unless they've saved for that, or have medical reasons.
      I tried talking about all of these topics in so many videos that are the LEAST watched ones on the channel- as most people want an easy fix to make money LOL

    Hola Mey, tengo mi cuenta en Society6 y aún no he vendido nada 😅😅 Sinceramente no la he promocionado, en fin... Había decidido hacerlo casualmente estos días. En mi caso que ya tengo mi cuenta de Paypal verificada ¿me cobrarán los 4$ restantes? Y de paso, muchas gracias por tus consejos. Un abrazo desde Costa Rica

      I am sorry, but the only person who can 100% grant you access to their website- is the website owner.
      Did you have a previous account that was banned?
      You need to talk directly to S6, no RUclipsr can help you I'm afraid...

      I saw something now (thanks for telling me, i left RB but it's good to know) on their website, but these don't seem to be tiers made by artists paying, more like inner system ranks that you just need to be good to get, right ?
      Or was there anything else specified in the email ?

      @@MeyTribe There'll be standard, premium and pro accounts. If you are classified as premium or pro you don't pay fees. Standard accounts will be charged *hefty* fees on earnings, up to 50% (the higher the earnings, the lower the fees, as a percentage of sales). No fees, if you have no sales in a given month. I'm premium. Phew. Guess it's designed to stem the floods. Also, premium and pro will have some perks over standard in terms of marketing, heads up re sales and so on.
