12:37 - Stan Lee is reading his lines from the script of "Mall Rats", a movie he was on in the 90's
29:02 - No. S.h.i.e.l.d recovered the Tesseract from the ocean and has been studying it for 90 years (until the New York invasion)
38:13 - Blue, you know that's Ronan the Accuser, the villain from "Guardians of the galaxy" - the events of this movie are before the peace treaty with the Nova core

For the record, crying in space, assuming you’re in a space suit and can’t wipe away the tears, will actually make you go blind temporarily. Because of surface tension, in a zero-g environment, the water will stick to your skin and each other, slowly becoming a big puddle of water that will irritate your eyes and force them shut. This happened to Chris Hadfield on one of his spacewalks and he talks about it in his book and TED talk.
And yeah, I don’t get the criticism of this one either, I enjoyed it thoroughly when I saw it in theaters.

Just like Wanda's powers come from the Mind Stone, Captain Marvel's powers come from the Tesseract. Yes She was blasted by the "energy core" but that was created and powered by the Tesseract and Mar Vel's experiments and engineering of the energy core. Therefore Captain Marvel is powered by an Infinity Stone. I'm kind of shocked you didn't recognize Ronan The Accuser and Korath the Pursuer both were in Guardians of the Galaxy. Guardians is in a 2014 time period, Captain Marvel 1995... Remember Nick Fury saying in Winter Soldier, "the last time I trusted someone, I lost an eye"... @@sitting_nut No I'm not. I don't understand how anyone can hate on Phase 4 right now, especially if you understand where it's likely headed. Everything we've gotten since WandaVision has been good to Incredible:
      WandaVision was amazing.
Falcon and Winter Soldier was good but also important.
      Loki was incredible.
Black Widow was a solid movie that should have came out sooner (I would have swapped it with Captain Marvel).
      What If was Incredible.
Eternals wasn't top tier Marvel, but it gets way more hate than it deserves.
      Hawkeye was good.
      No Way Home was Incredible.
I feel like the only reason people don't like it is because Marvel settled down a bit after the craziness of Infinity War and Endgame, and people aren't feeling that overwhelming excitement anymore, they think nothing is happening...even though that's supposed to be the point, we're supposed to feel more like Phase 2 when everything is in the build up stage before the lid is blown off again. They're building to such a massive moment, and I couldn't be more excited. Phase 4 has been a blast to me so far.

For example, Carol Danvers crashes with Mar-Vel and throughout the movie she is called Vers. ... Why, well Maria has the Carol Dan part of her military dog tag, and Yon-Rogg picked up the "vers" part in the flashback.
Goose, the kitty, was with Mar-Vel so not surprising it follows Vers/Fury and not surprising it has no fear of the tesseract.

In Guardians, Ronin's issue was that the Kree had signed a treaty with Zandar beyraying Kree history and weakening them. So he went rogue. In this movie he was still beholden to Kree governance. No matter how high, how far,
Or how fast I can fly,
Even I can't escape the past,
But that doesn't mean I can't redeem myself.
    Revenge doesn't change the past,
It won't bring back the Skrulls who died
Because of my servitude to the Kree.
It won't give me back the six years on Earth I missed,
And it doesn't feel as good
As being able to fly without a plane,
But it's the start of redemption.
    As I was growing up,
I progressed as slow as a caterpillar moved.
    After I became a soldier,
I ate through life like one too.
But when I found myself back on Earth,
    I entered a cocoon.
And now I feel just like a beautiful butterfly.
    Redemption is a warrior;
    So too is freedom.
    Carol Danvers is dead;
    Vers is also dead,
    So who am I now?
    I am Captain Marvel.
The sky is never my limit,
and my journey is just beginning.

The SSR, and then SHIELD had it for many years. It was likely handed over to Project Pegasus where it was experimented upon for many years, including as part of Lawson's Light Speed engine project. It's the same reaction the producers of the 2016 had in the face of criticism: the critics are all misogynist haters. The movie also introduced a couple of plot holes for the MCU, but that's for another day.

Comic book fans, like gamers, tend towards pedantry. Geekdom as a whole has that tendency and I say that as a 40-year certified geek who tends toward pedantry. A side effect of being pedantic is that we can be *VERY* gate-keepery. It's something that many in the vast realm of Geekdom need to work on, myself included.
I grant that Brie et al DID poke the bear, but the bear was there to be poked and is accountable for its response: the misogynists largely proved her right. They took every ounce of bait she laid down. They were so butt hurt over it that the movie had a garbage rating on Rotten Tomatoes before it was even released, prompting Rotten Tomatoes to change its rules. "Review bombing" is a tactic also used in video game reviews. The Venn diagram between Captain Marvel haters and Gamer Gaters is damned near a perfect circle, I'd wager.
It's not a perfect movie, but it's a damned good one.

I think a lot of people didn't like Capt Marvel for a combo of reasons. They just wanted to get to Endgame already, Capt Marvel is OP, some just can't handle strong women. Overall, what is there to complain about? It's another MCU movie. Enjoy it or don't watch it, but you don't have to shit on it.

  • @clonexx

The main issue myself and many others had with Captain Marvel is that they brought a new character in and made them infinitely more powerful than any other MCU hero that’s been introduced. Even Scarlet Witch hadn’t shown her massive power yet, so it felt wrong to bring in a character out of the blue that could essentially take on Thanos by herself and win. That’s without Thanos having the infinity stones, but still, the way they powered her, she could have shown up before Thanos got the stones and stopped him without breaking a sweat.
So really it was her insane power level that made people roll their eyes. She’s equivalent to Superman, except more powerful because her power isn’t reliant on a yellow sun, and she’s without any weakness that we know of.
That was my issue at least. I didn’t mind the movie, I thought it was ok. It’s numbers were likely inflated because it was advertised as required viewing for Endgame. There was also an issue with how Brie Larson treated fans of the MCU who were critical of Captain Marvel before the movie even released. Some were just idiots and should have been ignored, but some had genuine concerns and got insulted by Larson because of it.

After Endgame there are already four Marvel series (WandaVision, Loki (must see for you I guess),Falcon and Winter Soldier and Hawkeye) and three movies (Black Widow (set before Infinity War, should be watched before the Hawkeye series) and Shang-Chi and Eternals which continue the story) on Disney+. And so much more is coming. I hope you keep reacting, it's always a lot of fun to watch you (well except during Infinity War).

Disney switched to emphasizing new series as a result of the pandemic. Movies that were already underway came out, and they aren't phasing out movies entirely, but the MCU is being told with series a lot more after endgame. Just take the series in release order like you do with movies and you will have a BLAST. Wandavision breaks up nicely into three groups of three episodes, for example.

In the comics Carol is straight, occasionally bemoaning her inability to meet men. When men do show interest, they tend to be put off by the disparity in their power once they find out who she is; she's very powerful, and they're just normal guys. The orientation of the MCU version of Carol is yet to be shown. There were some rumors about her being a potential love interest for Valkyrie but I don't know if that goes beyond just a rumor.

I think some people just hate Carol's character, they find her too much cocky/OP and hurriedly deligned to be such a game changer like she is. Personally I loved it, this movie goes way back in her life (and in Fury's) to show the character growth, and the only problem was that she was introduced when all the other characters were well established in the heart of people. Also I loved the way in which the story is told, and the big turn of events that surprised even the comics readers ('cause we all know that, with rare exceptions, SKRULLS ARE BAD 😁 wait for Secret Invasion...).
