Fun fact: the role of Dormammu was played by Benedict cumberbatch himself. In short it can be said that he played both the lead role and that of the villain in the film.
He's good, we all knew that. How good? Check the cast list for The Hobbit films, too. He played and motion captured Smaug the Dragon , but he also voiced another VERY Prominent character in that movie as well!
Given that Dormammu is a giant all-powerful creature of pure ego and arrogance, it kinda becomes symbolic, as Strange defeats his own ego by sacrificing himself countless times to quell it.
When the mop falls in the scene after Christine aka the Night Nurse saves Dr Strange and the mop falls. Her reaction is genuine becasue the mop fall wasn't supposed to happen. It was a serendipitous moment that the director left in the film.
💙💙💙 I love that she calls him umami, because in 5 min. Strange is going to Dormomu so many times she will NEVER forget it again 😂😂😂 Such a fun reaction so far!
Tilda Swinton (The Ancient One) also plays the Angel Gabriel in another movie based on a DC comic called Constantine with Keanu Reeves that was also quite the trip.
She’s played a ton of great roles, including the White Witch in the recent Narnia adaptations, Karen Crowder in Michael Clayton, and the title role in Orlando.
Constantine was a terrific movie. Tilda Swinton was excellent, as was Peter Stormare, who played one of the most interesting versions of Satan I've ever seen in film.

The reason none of the characters are Asian or Tibetan as they are in the comics, is because Marvel wanted to make money in China. China doesn't acknowledge Tibet as a country and so they had to censor out the Tibet references.
But doesn't China also have rules against magic/time travel or manipulation? So it really doesn't make sense since this movie still shouldn't "work" there.
@@Fyrecide China's rules are whatever they want them to be at any given time. However anything positive regarding Tibet or Taiwan is an instant no go. And they are crazy petty. In the upcoming MAverick movia that has yet to be released, they needed to digitally alter some of the patches on the uniforms simply because they LOOKED SIMILAR to the Taiwanese flag.
China (i.e. the CCP) has a good amount of influence over the things we see in Hollywood movies. Even during the Cold War, the Soviet Union never had that power.
@Nimbus i thought the reason Marvel changed both the Ancient One and Mandarin was because they were both stereotypically rascist caricatures of asians.
I'm not sure, but I think when he's on the phone in the car, and the guy talks about an Air Force Colonel with a spinal injury, they may be referring to War Machine/Rhodie. Could be wrong, but why not? It fits.
Yeah, I heard from people who did the time math that it didn't fit the time for Rhodey's injury. I didn't do the math myself, because this movie covers a long period of time overall, to figure when each part would fit into the other movies. But off hand it makes sense that that was so long before his appearance in the other movies that it would be before Rhodey's injury.
Right on Blue. You're amazing. Can't wait to see how you react to this one. As a comic book fan, I was worried about this one. Happily, it's fantastic.
Blue I must say the cobalt blue color hair just looks so amazing. And you know I love to see you without the glasses, it makes you a whole differernt person. Good on you.
This was a crazy revolution for the MCU in many ways when it came out. Most of all with the fully embracing of magic, with everything before this somewhat dancing around committing. And it really nailed the landing with bringing it in. Loved loved loved your viewing. ❤️
Hey Blue, the ideas and concepts for the movie come from the comic book artwork under the influence of artist Steve Ditko. Ditko created Doctor Strange in the 1960s in partnership with Stan Lee. Creating a spacey, brain-blasted approach to otherworldly art is part of the film’s visuals. So thank you Steve Ditko for taking our minds to infinity and beyond.
Supposedly, Dr. Strange spent like a thousand years in the time loop with Dormammu, during which he continued to study and learn magic. That is how he becomes so powerful so quickly and is now the Sorceror Supreme.
There was no time to study inside that loop. He just kept dying all over again and again. Although it was definitely a time to put to practice all he learned from the all the books he read.
@@darrenl3289 no i would have to disagree. Studying is theoretical whereas practicing is practical. Studying is when he was reading the books from the library. Much like reading a driving manual before your driving test. The actual test itself where u apply what you "studied" is not studying its the testing phase. Yes sure he's learning everytime he dies from Dormammu's blasts but that in itself is not called studying.
After seeing your adorable reaction to this movie, I cannot help but recommend "Howl's Moving Castle" not sure if Howl influenced this movie but there are several things that look to be borrowed from it.
