Thank you for reacting to Japanese mysic😊❤ I’m Japanese. BTW, “YOASOBI” means “Night Play” and this song is opening song of Anime “Oshinoko”. The lyrics shows the anime story, also light side and dark side of “Idol”. It’s really interesting lyric. So please check the lyric too😉👍🌟
Also, let me add. Yoasobi has traditionally (to say something; they're a relatively recent duo) made songs based on short novels they've licensed. Ayase is really good at distilling the essence of something into lyrics and music. They were also the first band who had not debuted as part of a major producer to top the charts AND show up at the New Year's eve Kouhaku Utagassen in 2022, iirc. That program is basically one of the most viewed in Japan, a once in a year hours long concert in which different bands play their music, in a "guys vs girls".
There's one thing that needs to be said about ikura, the singer: her breath management is insanely good. You never hear her taking a breath in, her voice is always leveled no matter what she does, she hits all of her notes, even the high pitched hiccupy ones... You don't need to have a powerful, operatic voice to crush it as a singer. What she does is equally impressive in a completely different category. On the lyrics part also there's some interesting things to note, which I can't really talk about since that would be spoilers, but there's one interesting symbolism that I found, and I don't know if it was intentional or not, but those who have watched the anime and/or read the manga might understand where I'm going with this: in the second verse, the rapped one, she goes lower and lower until starting a rapid fire verse which uses the ai - pronounced like the ai in, sai, aikido - sound. If you know the story, and you look at what the lyrics say, there's a pretty clear symbolism here that I found was a really nice touch. That song being as popular as it is is so fucking deserved.
As a musician, it's really exciting for the song arrangement by Ayese , it's not just an animi song , it's a masterpiece itself, full of Japan stuff inside the song, the keyboard sound is floating up there, a clean and melodic bassline, no break in whole song, incredible!
I know you were looking for the full concert at one point and you can actually find it on YT now. Its so good and has many songs you already know on it. The Beastars one is on there too
I love them but from a Japanese music perspective, this isn't so weird. There is a tradition and lineage that leads to this. If you are not as familiar, a sound like this seems like it comes out of nowhere. But if you were pitching this in Japan, you could describe it normally, like sounds like X, mixed with Y, etc... like all music, it stands on shoulders of predecessors. I'm just glad Jpop is getting more international love again
That's some pretty heavy J-pop/anisong, eh?. Yoasobi opened the main stage of Bring Me The Horizon's Nex_Fest on November 3rd. They had mosh pits and circle pits going during their set. You can probably find fancams of it if you look.
It would be absolutely amazing if you did the ending song QUEEN BEE『Mephisto』Official MV , imo its amazing!!! I think you guys would appreciate it and then the first take version as well.
To see another side of Ikura aka Lilas Ikuta, check out her solo stuff. It’s fantastic. React to one of the songs from her MTV Unplugged set. Even better is her song with Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, “Free Free Free”.
So i am not the only one listening mostly to melodic Metal, Heavy Metal, Power Metal, Death Metal, Symphonic Metal and such but wants to have that Glow Stick and vibe with that Song 😂
Modern Japanese artists, recently, are starting to defy classification, and that's good. After so many years of idols, poor imitations of western screamo and r&b, you have a massive wave of new artists aged 20-45 who, either as active performers or as composers, are changing the panorama of Japanese music. So many of them started as utaite (cover singers under an alias, not showing their actual persona) or as Vocaloid and Dempa composers (two types of eletronica music in Japan). If you are interested, listen to anything by GIGA and REOL, for instance.
Also listen to Midnight Grand Orchestra, the duo project of composer Taku Inoue and Hoshimachi Suisei (vtuber/vsinger for Hololive). Inoue is the composer of Chocola Cadabra, the song whose reaction of yours I got recommended by the algorithm and drew my attention to your reactions, so you have him to thank for a viewer.

Yoasobi are now somehow tied up to metal as their new live drummer is Tatsuya Amano who also is the drummer for Crossfaith since December last year.

Is this one The LA concert last year?
ジャンルはボカロ
しかし、ikuraさんははすごい、ボカロな曲を歌っちゃうんだからな。それもライブで。多分バックトラックじゃなくて生歌で。
